I didn’t know I had anxiety (焦虑症) until the summer before Grade 7.
My family and I were shopping at Costco, and it was super crowded. Suddenly, my hands got wet, my heart raced and I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I held it together until we got back to the car, then I broke down. Luckily, my older sister helped me calm down.
In high school, I had my worst panic attack (恐慌发作) during a drama class performance. I was nervous because the room was small, and I could see everyone’s faces. While performing, I made eye contact with someone, and my mind went blank (空白). I forgot my lines and felt like everyone was looking at me. I cried and couldn’t breathe after I finished.
Even though I’ve had many panic attacks, I don’t let them take over my life. Now, I use my anxiety ring to help myself calm down. By moving it up and down my finger, I practice focusing on the ring and forgetting about my worries. Then I write down what’s bothering (烦扰) me. This makes me feel better. I also do breathing exercises. My friends and family support me a lot. They remind me to breathe and take breaks. I also talk to friends who share my feelings. Knowing that I’m not alone helps.
My advice to anyone with anxiety is to take it one day at a time. Things do get better, and I’m proof (证明) of that.
5. The writer knew that he had anxiety ________.

C. before Grade 7 D. in high school

We all hope for deep and lasting friendships with other people. Making friends, however, is as simple as it is difficult. Do you find it hard to make new friends? Here is some experts’ advice. Accept the awkwardness (尴尬).
Heather Havrilesky is an agony aunt (答问专栏作者). “Many people think that everybody already has his friends,” she says. “This is a wrong idea. Nobody already has their friends.”
It is uncomfortable to send the first message or hang out one-on-one for the first time. You have to accept that awkwardness. You can’t have friends without feeling awkward.
Spend time on your hobbies.
If you ask people how you can make new friends, many of them will tell you to try picking up a hobby. Havrilesky says that this truly works. “Do the things you like and you will naturally draw people to you,” she says, “You will meet people with the same hobbies.”
You may start with your favorite hobby: If it doesn’t work out, remind yourself that you have many talents. You don’t have to be interested in just one thing.
Care about your friends.
If you want to have deep friendships, you have to take care of them: In her book The Art of Showing Up, Rachel Wilkerson Miller shares two tips on building friendships. First, take notes of your conversations with your friends. They will offer you points of connection later. Second, remember the names of people in your friends’ lives to show how much you care about them.
9. It’s natural to feel ________ when sending the first message to someone.
A. proud B. awkward C. lost D. disappointed

The world has lost a great scientist—Dr. Jane Goodall passed away on October 1 in California, USA. Her work changed how we understand animals.
In 1960, Goodall went to Gombe National Park in Tanzania (坦桑尼亚) to study chimpanzees (黑猩猩). What she discovered there forever changed science. She found that chimpanzees are not vegetarians (素食者). She also watched them use sticks as tools to catch ants. It turned out that humans are not the only tool users.
Goodall discovered another side of chimpanzees, too. They played, shared food and made peace after fights. But they also had wars between groups. They even hurt their own kind.
There’s an unusual sense of trust between her and the chimpanzees. Once a young male (雄性) gently held her hand. Another time, a mother named Flo allowed her baby to touch Goodall’s nose. These small moments showed their wordless connection.
Goodall became a bridge between humans and nature. In her later years, she worked to save forests. She even led projects like the “Trillion Trees” and “Trees for Jane”.
Throughout her long life, Goodall carried a message of hope. She believed that hope gives people the power to act and care for the planet. Though her work has ended, her love for all living things will continue to inspire (激励).

When we think of farming, we often picture grass, blue skies, cows, and sheep. But now, a new meat industry (产业) is rising. It looks very different from the traditional one. ____17____
The idea began in 1931. Scientists worked for years and made it happen. Lab-grown meat does not come from animals. Instead, it grows from a single cell (细胞) in a container. ____18____ As this industry grows, people raised a question: Is lab-grown meat good for nature?
____19____ For example, KFC once tried to make some chicken products from lab-grown meat. Some believe it’s environmentally friendly in the long run. It does not require land, water, or feed. And it avoids greenhouse (温室) gases perfectly.
But a study by the University of California shows a different view. ____20____ The scientists compared the carbon (碳) footprint of both ways. One kilogram of beef makes around 100 kilograms of CO₂. But lab-grown meat may produce 4 to 25 times more than that! This is because energy is needed to run the containers where cells grow.
However, many scientists are still working on lab-grown meat, so the result is not final. It seems that lab-grown meat needs more time to prove itself.
A. Many companies say yes.
B. It’s called “lab-grown meat”.
C. In this way, no animals need to be killed.
D. Lab-grown meat has more advantages than traditional meat.
E. It found that lab-grown meat might be even worse for the earth.

This term, more than 1,400 schools in Beijing started a new course—AI. Students will take at least eight AI lessons each year, Beijing Daily said.
At Beijing No. 8 High School, 7th graders have classes such as introduction to AI and AI’s social responsibility. Eighth graders listen to lectures (讲座), visit AI companies and take courses like AI+ math to see how AI connects with other subjects. Ninth graders explore topics such as job choices in the AI era (时代) to help them plan for the future. In one AI class, 8th grader Yan Xia created an English learning game. On the screen, players catch goldfish and must spell words correctly. “I used AI to design the fish, the boat, all the words and even the game code (代码),” Yan explained. “If I had done it by myself, coding and making the pictures would have taken a long time. Thanks to AI, I had more time and energy to improve the game.”
As AI classes become more popular, some people worry that depending too much on AI might make students lazy. But student Shi Qixin found that creating better prompts (指令) helped her think and share her ideas more clearly. “The class changed how I study and made me a better problem solver.”

10 What does the underlined word “draw” mean in Paragraph 4?
A. Attract. B. Paint. C. Mention. D. Invite.

A. By developing a hobby. B. By taking photos for them.
C. By sending them gifts. D. By taking notes of your conversations.

A. Benefits of making new friends. B. Advice on keeping close friendships.
C. Ways to build long friendships. D. Challenges of meeting new people.

Once, a young male (雄性) gently held her hand.
13. Goodall studied chimpanzees in ________.
A. Tanzania B. Egypt C. India D. the USA
14. How did chimpanzees show their trust to Goodall?
A. By using sticks. B. By holding her hand.
C. By sharing food. D. By making peace after wars.
15. What was Goodall’s main contribution (贡献)?
A. She worked hard to protect forests.
B. She carried a message to love nature.
C. Her works changed how we understand animals.
D. She proved that humans are not the only tool users.
16. What’s the best title for the text?
A. A Heart Carries Hope B. A Love Continues to Inspire
C. A Voice for the Wild Falls Silent D. A Bridge Connects Humans and Nature
第二节
阅读短文,从方框内所给的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,其中有一个多余的选项。

AI is a big hit right now. “Students need to learn about AI’s value, ethics (伦理) and how to use it properly,” said Gong Yuanli, a teacher of the information technology department at Beijing No. 8 High School.
