【原文】Good afternoon, everyone. It’s such a great honor to be back at my high school and share my post graduation story with you. I studied journalism in college and after graduation, I became an environmental journalist. Last year, I went to a forest to interview workers, but when I arrived, forest workers were using big machines to pull old pine trees out of the ground. A mother deer stayed near its destroyed home with wide and scared eyes. That sight upset me a lot. I couldn’t just write about the damage. I realized it wasn’t my dream job. The next day, I quit my 1st job. Now I work as a volunteer for a local group that protects nature. We plant small trees, educate villagers on saving animal homes, and call on people to stop cutting down trees. These are small things, but I know I am doing meaningful things. I’m satisfied with my current job, which makes me happier than any news story I’ve ever written.

Sophie used to be the queen of last-minute changes. Why? She believed those changes were the only way to prove her self-value. She rewrote imperfect paragraphs, again and again all night, afraid she didn’t seem smart enough and worried she would disappoint others. In class, Sophie was too tired to focus because “imperfect” felt like “not good enough”.
Then one afternoon came a turning point. During a physics lab class, Sophie was tired after perfecting a lab report. Her partner Joe said, “You’re really good at this, but you’ll burn out if you keep pushing so hard.” Joe’s words struck her, and she thought, “What if I don’t need to be perfect to be valued?”
Shortly after that, Sophie started making small changes. For an English poem, she limited the editing time to 30 minutes — then she made herself stop, even though she was eager to improve more. Surprisingly, her teacher wrote back, “Your creative ideas stand out!” She had never been so touched — it was liked even though it wasn’t perfect. Before a math presentation, Sophie practiced only twice and then went for ice cream with friends. Laughing with them, she realized, “Spending time with people who care about me matters more than a perfect speech.” When she presented, the class clapped and no one noticed her shaky voice.
Now, Sophie still puts effort into her work, but not at the cost of sleep, friends, or her health. Sophie tells herself: “I’m enough because I go all out.” She has learned that “good enough” — even with imperfection — is truly enough.
24. Why did Sophie often stay up?
A. She had difficulty in writing. B. She wanted to perfect her work.
C. She couldn’t focus on her study. D. She had too much homework to do.
25. What made Sophie start to reflect her mindset?
A. Teacher’s praise. B. Peer’s reminding. C. Friends’ company. D. Her health condition.
26. How does the author develop the text?
A. By following time order. B. By using cause-effect structure.
C. By describing a process step by step. D. By analyzing advantages and disadvantages.
27. What does the text mainly tell us?
A. Don’t seek perfection at all costs.
B We should go all out to be perfect.
C. Perfection is the key to gaining others’ respect.
D. Making small changes can lead to great success.
【答案】24. B 25. B 26. A 27. A

Of all the desert’s locals, few are as impressive as the jerboa (跳鼠), a tiny, long-tailed hopper that masters the art of fun and survival at the same time. Unlike monarch butterflies, which are known for long-distance migrations, these little creatures show their survival wisdom through short-distance journeys, each covering a few kilometers.
Native to the deserts of Asia and North Africa, the jerboa feeds mainly on plants. When the plants around it begin to dry up, it sets off in search of greener ones, ensuring enough food. During the non-traditional migrations, the jerboa has developed amazing abilities, one of which is its jumping ability. With long and powerful hind legs, it can leap up to 1 meter high and 2 meters away in one jump. This jumping is not only an efficient way to travel but also an excellent escape trick. When a fox approaches, the jerboa will suddenly jump away in a Z-shaped pattern, leaving the natural enemy confused.
Moreover, the jerboa is an active traveler at night. As the sun sets and the desert cools, it begins its activities. Its large eyes are well-suited for moving in low light and its sharp ears can catch the slightest sound of danger.
For humans, the jerboa is movements hold great significance: they help predict climate impact and even serve as inspiration for robotics research. Unfortunately, these fascinating creatures face rising threats because of human activities.
Now researchers are working together to protect them, teaching us an important lesson: since we draw inspiration from nature to advance our technology, we should use the advances to give back and protect its lovely wonders, like desert jerboas.
28. What causes the jerboa to start its migration?
A. Search for partners. B. Changes in temperature.
C. Shortage of food supply. D. Threats from natural enemies.
29. How does the author prove the jerboa’s amazing ability?
A. By introducing its life story. B. By comparing with the monarch.
C. By noting its migration distance. D. By describing its escape behavior.
30. What can we learn about the jerboa from the text?
A. It usually rests at night. B. It inspires science research.
C Its population has crashed greatly. D. It is native to Asian-African grasslands.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Technology uncovers nature’s mysteries.
B. Technology will damage nature’s wonders.
C. Technology and nature can benefit each other.
D. Technology should be used to protect deserts.
【答案】28. C 29. D 30. B 31. C

Like Transformers (变形金刚), most robots move in two modes: on wheels or on human-inspired feet. About 15 years ago, researchers developed animal-inspired robots, such as robot dogs or snake-like machines.
Yet one part of nature was almost ignored: plants. Many roboticists assume that plants neither move nor sense. But Dr. Barbara Mazzolai, an Italian roboticist, has challenged this idea. She worked with her team to create “FiloBot”, a climbing plant-inspired robot that can grow and seek supports all on its own.
So how does a climbing plant survive? It grows out of soil and travels along to search for a support, such as a tree. It is also a fast grower, reaching 2 to 5 meters in a year, with even more growth in full sunlight.
FiloBot copies the climbing plants’ behaviors. By melting (熔化) and pushing plastic out in a circle pattern, FiloBot can 3D-print its own body at a speed of 2-7mm per minute — far outpacing bamboo, the world’s fastest-growing plant, which can grow at up to 0.7 mm per minute. Moreover, FiloBot can intelligently control its growth in two ways. By adjusting (调整) the temperature of plastic, it can control growth speed: lower temperatures speed up growth while higher ones slow it down; by adjusting the amount of plastic added to the circle, it can also attach to supports. These climbing plant-inspired functions allow FiloBot to get through complex environments.
Mazzolai hopes FiloBot will inspire more inventions rooted in the plant kingdom. “The plant kingdom, so different from animals, can lead to new technologies and artificial solutions,” she said.
32. Why do roboticists show little interest in plants?
A. They think plants move too slowly.
B. They are influenced by Transformers.
C. They find it difficult to copy plants’ structures.
D. They have a misconception that plants cannot move.
33. How does FiloBot grow itself?
A. By attaching itself to a 3D printer. B. By forming body with melted plastic.
C. By copying bamboo’s growth pattern. D. By following animals’ clever behaviors.
34. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “outpacing” in paragraph 4?
A. Getting close to. B. Going faster than.
C. Keeping up with. D. Watching out for.
35. What feature of climbing plants has inspired FiloBot?
A. Their strong structure. B. Their independent power.
C. Their light-seeking ability. D. Their self-adjusting growth.
【答案】32. D 33. B 34. B 35. D
根据第四段“By melting and pushing plastic out in a circle pattern, FiloBot can 3D-print its own body at a speed of 2-7mm per minute.(FiloBot通过熔化塑料并以环形轨迹挤出的方式,能够以每分钟2至7毫米的速度3D打印自身结构)”可知,FiloBot是通过用融化的塑料形成身体来自我生长的。故选B。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“By melting (熔化) and pushing plastic out in a circle pattern, FiloBot can 3D-print its own body at a speed of 2-7mm per minute(FiloBot通过熔化塑料并以环形轨迹挤出的方式,能够以每分钟2至7毫米的速度3D打印自身结构)”和下文“the world’s fastest-growing plant, which can grow at up to 0.7 mm per minute(世界上最快的植物竹子的最高生长速度仅为每分钟0.7毫米)”可知,这一速度远超世界上生长最快的植物竹子。由此可知,划线词outpacing意思是“比……快”。故选B。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“Moreover, FiloBot can intelligently control its growth in two ways.(此外,FiloBot可以通过两种方式智能地控制其生长)”可知,攀爬植物自我调节的生长启发了FiloBot。故选D。

There’s only one room in Ella Mentry School that I really like — the lost and found room! I call it “the free stuff room.” You can get just about anything you want without paying a cent.
This morning I went to kill some time in the free stuff room and found a black T-shirt which felt cooler than the one I was wearing, so I took my shirt off and put it on. Perfectly! I quickly put my old shirt in my backpack and went to class.
My classmates were putting their backpacks in their lockers. Our teacher, Miss Daisy, wasn’t there yet. Suddenly, the door opened. We all looked up. It was Andrea, a really perfect girl with curly brown hair, who had many friends and was totally popular with everyone at school, but I disliked her.
Smiling brightly, Andrea took the lead to share the good news: Miss Daisy had called her into tell her about joining the talent program.
I rolled my eyes. “What’s your talent?” I asked. “Being annoying?”
Everybody started laughing. Andrea gave me her dirty looks. Then she locked her wide eyes on my T-shirt, and it was in that moment I suddenly saw a name sewn on the edge of the T-shirt.
“What?!” I wanted the ground to swallow me. I was wearing a girl’s shirt, and worst of all, it was Andrea’s!
Just then, Miss Daisy walked into the classroom, and told us to sit in a big circle on the floor. “You have been classmates for two months. Let’s go around the room and say something nice about the person sitting across from you,” she said. I looked to see who was sitting across from me. It was Andrea! I felt my face get burning. I stared at my shoes, hoping Miss Daisy would skip Andrea and me, but the circle moved fast.

Soon, it was Andrea’s turn. She met my eyes, no anger at all. Smiling, she said, “He’s funny— his jokes often bring laughter to the class.” Her words made my face burn with surprise and shame. Miss Daisy smiled and nodded, “Kind words build bridges.” After class, Andrea came over, gently nudged my arm and added, “Keep the T-shirt. Honestly, it looks better on you!”
With her kind words and the T-shirt she gifted me, I decided to do something for her program. I made posters and offered to help her keep a progress journal. She gladly accepted my assistance. I got to know a truly kind and easygoing Andrea. On show day, she performed wonderfully. Hugging me, she said thanks. I learned not to judge others quickly — this friendship was the best “free stuff ”.

B. We should go all out to be perfect.
C. Perfection is the key to gaining others’ respect.
D. Making small changes can lead to great success.

30 What can we learn about the jerboa from the text?
A. It usually rests at night. B. It inspires science research.
C. Its population has crashed greatly. D. It is native to Asian-African grasslands.
31. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Technology uncovers nature’s mysteries.

A Their strong structure. B. Their independent power.
C. Their light-seeking ability. D. Their self-adjusting growth.

It's such a great honour to be back at my high school and share my post graduation story with you. I studied journalism in college, and after graduation, I became an environmental journalist. Last year, I went to a forest to interview workers, but when I arrived, forest workers were using big machines to pull old pine trees out of the ground. A mother dear stayed near its destroyed home with wide and scared eyes. That site upset me a lot. I couldn't just write about the damage. I realized I wasn't my dream job. The next day, I quit my first job. Now I work as a volunteer for a local group that protects nature. We plant small trees, educate villager's on saving animal homes and call on people to stop cutting down trees. These are small things, but I know I am doing meaningful things. I'm satisfied with my current job, which makes me happier than any news story i've ever written. Good afternoon, everyone.
