Do you know that sign language also has dialects (方言)? Sign language is the main way deaf people communicate. Since they can’t hear, it’s hard for them to communicate with hearing people. Luckily, sign language interpreters (传译员) are there to help. Hao Shuxin, 24, sees sign language as her mother language, as her parents are deaf. In 2018, she became a sign language interpreter in Chongqing. Her work takes her to places like courts, where she interprets for deaf people in legal cases Since sign language has fewer words, Hao often meets difficult words without a direct match. In such situations, she carefully breaks down the meaning for deaf people. There are also grammatical differences between Chinese and sign language. “For example, the words ‘put out a fire’ are signed as ‘a fire put out’ in sign language, as deaf people describe what they see first,” Hao explained. Hao feels stressed at work because being correct is important in interpretation. Her worry also comes from the fact that sign language has “dialects”. The same word can be expressed with different hand gestures (手势) depending on where a deaf person is from. Having traveled to over 30 cities in China, she has learned about the unique ways for deaf people across the country to use sign language. In her free time, Hao reads many law books and talks with lawyers and her deaf coworkers to improve her professional ability. “I understand the difficulties faced by the deaf community, and I want to do everything I can to help them,” Hao said. 5. Hao is familiar with (熟悉) sign language mainly because _________. A. she can’t hear anything B. she teaches sign language at school C. her parents are deaf D. she loves to take care of people 6. According to the passage, deaf people may say “_________”. A. pick up a football B. pick a football up C. a football up pick D. a football pick up 7. Hao uses the following ways to improve her professional ability except (除了) _________. A. reading law books B. talking with lawyers C. traveling around the world D. talking with her deaf coworkers 8. What can we learn from the passage? A. Chinese has fewer words than sign language. B. Hao sometimes feels stressed as sign language has “dialects”. C. Hao loves her job because she always feels relaxed at work. D. There is almost no difference between Chinese and sign language. C 6. D 7. C 8. 根据“Hao Shuxin, 24, sees sign language as her mother language, as her parents are deaf.” 根据“For example, the words ‘put out a fire’ are signed as ‘a fire put out’ in sign language, as deaf people describe what they see first,”可知,听障人士是按照他们首先看到的来描述的,因此“捡起足球”会被描述为“足球被捡起”。 根据“In her free time, Hao reads many law books and talks with lawyers and her deaf coworkers to improve her professional ability.” 根据“Hao feels stressed at work because being correct is important in interpretations. Her worry also comes from the fact that sign language has ‘dialects’.” B。 Passage 3. Every year in China, there is always a special time. It seems that these pictures are real ones. Siwei Lyu, a computer scientist from America, offers some tips about how to find out whether a picture online is AI-created or not. The first step is to slow down. On social media, it only takes us 13 milliseconds (毫秒) to process a picture. That may be enough to notice what it is, but not enough to think about whether it’s real or not. “Next time we see something interesting or funny, take more time to look and think about it.” Lyu says. Secondly, AI programs are trained to create pictures by looking at a large number of real ones. These programs only know what they’ve been given. They don’t know what details (细节) to pay attention to. This results in problems that are easy to find through careful checks. If there is a person in a picture, Lyu suggests looking at their hands and eyes. Today’s AI programs aren’t good at producing lifelike hands. They may have six fingers, or fingers that are in the same length or look strange. And why the eyes? Humans almost always have circular pupils (圆形瞳孔), but AI often produces strangely shaped shadows in the center of eyes. Light reflecting off (反射) the eyes should also be in the same place on each eye. It’s something that today’s AI tools are still trying to work out. Thirdly, many AI-created pictures also have unnatural smoothness (平滑度) where there should be textures (纹理). Things that should be straight may be curved (弯曲的). You can start looking out for AI-created pictures today. Check first before you believe anything you see! 13. How many tips does the writer introduce to us in the passage? A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five. 14. Why does Lyu suggest looking at hands and eyes of a person in a picture? A. Everyone’s eyes and hands are different. B. AI-created pictures always have unnatural smoothness. C. AI programs are not able to create lifelike hands and eyes. D. Light reflecting off the eyes is in the same place. 15. What can we infer from the text? A. AI-created pictures still have challenging problems for AI to solve. B. AI clearly knows what it should pay attention to when creating pictures C. AI-created pictures can’t have natural smoothness without special training. D. AI can’t create pictures unless they look at a large number of real ones. 16. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Some AI-created pictures. B. Some useful tips. C. Some social media. D. Some research. 13 B 14. C 15. A 16. Humans almost always have circular pupils (圆形瞳孔), but AI often produces strangely shaped shadows in the center of eyes.” 根据“Light reflecting off (反射) the eyes should also be in the same place on each eye. It’s something that today’s AI tools are still trying to work out.” 故选A。 Passage 5. It has been 80 years since the victory (胜利) in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-1945) and the World Anti-Fascist War (中国人民抗日战争暨世界反法西斯战争). It was a time to remember and learn from history. In 1931, Japan occupied (占领) parts of Northeast China. In 1937, it started a full invasion (侵略). The Chinese people fought bravely for more than 10 years. About 35 million Chinese were killed or injured. China made a great contribution (贡献) to the victory in World War II in 1945 and helped bring peace to the world. These experiences show the Chinese people’s love of peace, not the “law of the jungle (丛林法则).” Today the world must also choose between peace and war, dialogue and fighting. For example, Japan wants to change its pacifist Constitution At the same time, the US has made imports (进口) more expensive. This is very bad for the world economy (经济). The experience of the World Anti-Fascist War showed that countries must work together to solve common problems. China now wants to improve its economy, science, culture, and relationships with other countries. The country also needs a modern army to stay safe and keep world peace. The parade has shown China’s support for peace. It also shows that the country has grown stronger after its painful (痛苦的) experiences in the past. 41. Passage 2. 5. Passage 3. Every year in China, there is always a special time. During this time, all railway stations, bus stations and airports are very busy. Though some people work far away from their hometown, they still hurriedly go back to their hometown. They hope to get together with their parents and family members. During this time, Chinese people celebrate their most important festival—the Spring Festival. Today, we often see pictures created with the help of an AI tool on social media. It seems that these pictures are real ones. Siwei Lyu a computer scientist from America, offers some tips about how to find out whether a picture online is AI-created or not. A Everyone’s eyes and hands are different. A Some AI-created pictures. B. Some useful tips. C. Some social media. D. Some research. Passage 5. These experiences show the Chinese people’s love of peace, not the “law of the jungle (丛林法则).” Today, the world must also choose between peace and war, dialogue and fighting. 41. When did Japan start a full invasion? ____________________________________ 42. List two things which are very bad for the world economy. ____________________________________ 43. What did the experience of the World Anti-Fascist War show? ____________________________________ 44. What do you think of the big military parade? Why?
