A
The upcoming winter season offers a selection of the finest, quickest, toughest and most delightful running events across the UK for those seeking adventure or community spirit.
●Bah Humbug 10K, 1 December
Do yourself a favour and bring towels and plastic bags with you, because every bit of gear you wear during this event is likely to be caked with mud by the end. Therefore, the organizers have done well to ensure there are changing rooms and showers available for all runners.
●Winter Solstice Strider, 8 December
Dig that head flashlight out of the messy drawer for this after-dark run or walk for a good cause. You have a 5K route, which winds through the forest at the St Ives Estate. The route is far from flat and will almost certainly be muddy in places, so make sure your flashlight batteries are well charged in case there are emergencies.
●The Christmas Charity Run, 21 December
This event is run by a most environmentally conscious organizer in the country, and is therefore only open to local runners to reduce car travel. With winter conditions, the route may have some mud, so strong shoes are recommended. Another great feature is that £7.50 of the £10 entry fee goes straight to a local charity that supports people with cancer.
●Mapledurham 10 & Half, 29 December
Mapledurham events are always well organized, and with unpleasant weather likely, you’ll have to deal with some mud on the various uphills and downhills on whichever of the 10K, 10-mile or half-marathon courses you choose. The organizers have prioritised finding a good route over precise measurements, so all three races have a rather loose relationship with their stated distance.
1. What does the author suggest runners do for the Winter Solstice Strider?
A. Donate extra money. B. Bring towels and bags.
C. Wear strong shoes. D. Charge flashlight batteries.
2. What is a feature of the Christmas Charity Run?
A. Forest path routes. B. Local-only participation.
C. Flexible race distances. D. Post-race shower service.
3. What do the four running events have in common?
A. They are all held in the daytime. B. They all charge an entry fee of £ 10.
C. They are likely to involve mud on the route. D. They are all organized by environmentalists.

Artist Luca Gnizio’s latest project, Forsoutree, speaks more than words could. The project started with the accidental discovery of a century-old Holm Oak tree trunk (树干) that had been brought down by nature in a park. When Gnizio was called in, he immediately thought of giving the dead trunk some life.
Over the past decade, Gnizio has made a name for himself, establishing a whole new form of art that harmonizes with nature. In his work, he focuses on three Rs: reduce, reuse and recycle. The Forsoutree takes on various aspects of his artistic approach. The aim of this project was not only to reuse but also to protect and give life. To Gnizio, what most people call waste can be repurposed to give more meaning to life.
He has managed to create new levels of beauty with the trunk, combining it with the natural environment and using it as the central point. Especially, it is the change of parts of the trunk into seats. He has created two unique seats with the trunk still in its primary location. All around the trunk itself are breathtaking sights of the park for any lover of the natural space.
If you think sitting on a dead trunk will be boring, what about bathing? Gnizio has carved out a deep basin (盆) with sufficient resting space. An adult can lie on the floor of the basin looking upwards and enjoy the peaceful surrounding nature. Unfortunately, the basin is only for artistic purposes. You may not be able to bathe in it, but you will surely enjoy the sights.
“Forsoutree speaks of beauty and respect and reminds us that nothing belongs to us on this earth, where we are simply passing guests,” explained Gnizio. His art offers an opportunity for us to learn more about our environment and also appreciate life as it is.
4. How was the Forsoutree project started?
A. By restoring a fallen tree in a park. B. By changing the design for a park.
C. By planting a new Holm Oak in a park. D. By finding an old oak trunk by chance.
5. What’s the goal of the Forsoutree project?
A. To reuse, protect and give life. B. To reduce, create and display art.
C. To recycle, design and spread art. D. To collect, process and sell waste.
6. What can visitors experience with the Forsoutree project?
A. Take the seats made of the trunk home. B. Bathe in the basin carved from the trunk.
C. Enjoy unique views around the original trunk. D. Witness the artist carve the trunk on site.
7. What does the author intend to tell us in the last paragraph?
A. Humans should take control of natural resources.
B. Art can help people connect with nature and life.
C. The Forsoutree project is the artist’s best work.
D. Visitors should protect the century-old tree trunk.
D 5. A 6. C 7. B

My team from UNSW Australia defeated the team B-Human from Germany 3-1 last week to claim back-to-back Robocup SPL World Championships. Here’s how we did it.
The competition involved fully autonomous robots, without remote control, competing against each other in 5-on-5 soccer. Each team used the same robots, so the competition was concentrated on software and artificial intelligence (AI) development, not on hardware construction.
The final was a thrilling match locked at 1-1 with less than three minutes remaining. Both teams had strong strategies and well- tested code; but in the end, our speed proved too fast for the Germans to keep up with.
Our strategy for winning was focused on exploiting our fast walking speed. Our robots could accelerate more quickly than most teams, with a top speed of 1 kilometer per hour, which in robot soccer was really quick.
When the ball was in our half of the field, we didn’t bother trying to pass it to a teammate. We just tried to move it up to the other end of the field. The idea was that we would kick the ball deep into their half of the field, and then use our fast walking speed to reach the ball before our opponents had time to clear it away.
This led to us playing most of the game in our opponent’s half of the field, where it was hard for them to score goals, but easier for us to score.
At last, with a goal scored in the final minute of the game, our robots were victorious. Our hard work in doing the coding for our team had paid off.
However, we now have a huge target on our back. All the other teams will be closely watching our progress and focusing on their strategies to beat us next year. We will spend the next 12 months continuing to innovate and ensure that we bring an even better team to the competition next year. Hopefully next time our robots will be more rapid than ever.
8. What did the competition focus on?
A. Hardware & Tools. B. Software & AI.
C. Design & Shape. D. Training & Teamwork.
9. What does the underlined word “exploiting” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Making full use of. B. Putting up with.
C. Looking down on. D. Breaking away from.
10. Which strategy did the author’s team use to win?
A. Clearing the opponent’s ball away. B. Passing the ball to their teammates.
C. Sending the ball to the opponent’s half. D. Defending their own half of the field.
11. What can be known about the UNSW Australia team next year?
A. They will change robots. B. They will quit the competition.
C. They will improve speed. D. They will copy others’ strategies.
B 9. A 10. C 11. C
根据第二段“Each team used the same robots, so the competition was concentrated on software and artificial intelligence (AI) development, not on hardware construction.(每个团队都使用了相同的机器人,因此比赛的重点在于软件和人工智能(AI)的开发,而非硬件的构建)”可知,这次竞赛的重点是软件与人工智能。
根据划线词后文“Our robots could accelerate more quickly than most teams, with a top speed of 1 kilometer per hour, which in robot soccer was really quick.(我们的机器人能够比大多数队伍更快地加速,其最高速度可达每小时1公里,在机器人足球比赛中这速度已经相当快了)”可知,后文进一步说明机器人凭借快速加速和最高时速优势,将球推进到对方半场并抢占先机,即充分利用速度优势。 故选A。
根据第五段“The idea was that we would kick the ball deep into their half of the field, and then use our fast walking speed to reach the ball before our opponents had time to clear it away.(当时的想法是,我们要将球踢到对方场地的深处,然后凭借我们快速的奔跑速度在对手还没来得及将球踢出之前抢到球权)”可知,作者的团队通过将球传到对方半场来获胜。

As AI continues its extraordinary rise as a creative force, we’re entering an era of “aesthetic inflation (美学膨胀) ,” where seemingly perfectly composed images, poetic articles, and cinematic storytelling have become available to anyone, instantly and at no cost. Say, a symphony in the exact style of Beethoven or an essay in the voice of Hemingway can be generated in seconds. Does the perfect AI art, however, carry the same value?
The value of artworks, as it is, goes beyond what is shown in the museum or the concert hall. We don’t just listen to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. We are impressed by the fact that it was composed while he was deaf. These stories give their creation depth, reminding us that art is not just about aesthetics or skill.
Perfection has never belonged to humanity. Across cultures, imperfection isn’t just accepted — it’s embraced. The deep connection between imperfection and creativity in artworks is everywhere. The latter has always made space for mistakes, rough edges, and raw emotion, like the quake in a brushstroke, the crack in a voice — these aren’t things to be fixed, but they’re what give art its soul and make human-created art more valuable.
Lost in great artworks, like a heartbreaking song or an impressive painting, we travel the artists’ emotional journey, unfold one character’s bittersweet memories, or smile at the unexpected twists the creator carefully lays out. In this light, AI-generated art is not just unnatural. This is why Jerry Saltz, an art critic, has a good question, “Calculated and deterministic, AI art is like a beautifully wrapped box shining with techniques. But do you really expect anything when you open it?”
Indeed, throughout history, the most celebrated works of paintings, literature, and music are always about expression, exploration, and engagement with the world. As AI art is detached from all these grounds, maybe the value of human-created art migrates to the very thing that displays who we are.
12. What marks the time of “aesthetic inflation” ?
A. AI has replaced human artists in most fields. B. The world is flooded with immediate artworks.
C. Classical artworks have made a comeback. D. Aesthetic standards have dropped significantly.
13. What can add depth to human-created art according to the passage?
A. Perfect aesthetic presentation. B. Wide recognition in concert halls.
C. Fixed rough edges and mistakes. D. Artists’ life stories and qualities.
14. What is Jerry Saltz’s attitude towards AI art?
A. Approving. B. Indifferent. C. Neutral. D. Critical.
15. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A. Why Does Human Art Still Matter? B. How Does Aesthetic Inflation Rise?
C. What Makes AI Art Become a Hit? D. What Is the Benefit of Aesthetic Inflation?
B 13. D 14. D 15. A
根据第一段“As AI continues its extraordinary rise as a creative force, we’re entering an era of “aesthetic inflation (美学膨胀) ,” where seemingly perfectly composed images, poetic articles, and cinematic storytelling have become available to anyone, instantly and at no cost. (随着人工智能作为一种创造性力量的非凡崛起,我们正进入“美学膨胀”的时代,在这个时代,看似完美的图像、诗意的文章和电影式叙事,任何人都能即时且免费获取。)”可知,“美学膨胀”的标志是人们能即时、免费获得大量艺术作品,世界充斥着这类即时可得的作品。故选B项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“We are impressed by the fact that it was composed while he was deaf. These stories give their creation depth (这首歌是他失聪时创作的,这一事实给我们留下了深刻的印象,这些故事为作品增添了深度)”可知,艺术家的人生故事与特质能为人类艺术增添深度。故选D项。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“This is why Jerry Saltz, an art critic, has a good question, “Calculated and deterministic, AI art is like a beautifully wrapped box shining with techniques. But do you really expect anything when you open it?”
故选A项。
The term “sportsmanship” comes from the playing fields of diamonds, grids, courts, and pools. But what does it mean exactly? ___16___ Examples of such conduct include fairness, respect for one’s opponent, and graciousness (优雅) in winning or losing.
It’s beautiful to see athletes or competitors in various games show respect and humility to one another. ___17___ The person gave his or her best even if the hope of winning was slim. This is a true display of sportsmanship.
Sadly, not all competitors live up to this spirit. One common sign of poor sportsmanship is when a competitor loses and deliberately shows his or her disgust through negative body language. ___18___ Some even do physical violence against the winner. We often see this type of person who is hurt by the sporting event’s outcome labeled a sore loser. On the flip side, poor sportsmanship also reveals itself in winners who taunt (嘲笑) their opponents. They may even make rude gestures to the opposing team’s fans or not shake their competitor’s hands.
___19___ This behavior raises questions about the person’s values. It also leads to doubts about how they were coached or taught. It leaves fans and opposing players with uncomfortable thoughts about the person, due to their unexpected behavior. And then the behavior is not checked; it can quickly come up again and maybe even be worse than it was before.
Our society is built on celebrating winners. Unfortunately, our community is also made to ridicule those who lose. There is a distortion (扭曲) of viewpoint here. Winning is great but losing is a part of competition and games. If people have “lost” a game, they have gained valuable knowledge of how to approach the next opportunity. ___20___
A. It defines the spirits of sports.
B. It does not matter who wins or loses.
C. This brings them a step closer to victory, if not success itself.
D. At times, they might direct sharp criticisms at the referee publicly.
E. In the above scenarios, both the winner and loser in the contest are not at their best.
F. Sportsmanship is defined as conduct appropriate for someone participating in a sport.
G. This could be not shaking their opponents’ hands or walking off the field by themselves.
F 17. B 18. G 19. E 20. C
根据上文“But what does it mean exactly? (但它到底意味着什么?)”可知,此处需要对“sportsmanship”进行明确定义,承接上文的提问。F选项“Sportsmanship is defined as conduct appropriate for someone participating in a sport. (体育精神被定义为适合参与体育运动的人的行为准则。)”直接回应了“what does it mean”的疑问,给出了核心定义,且下文“Examples of such conduct include... (这种行为的例子包括……)”中的“such conduct”恰好指代F选项中的“conduct appropriate for someone participating in a sport”,逻辑衔接紧密,符合语境。故选F项。
根据下文“The person gave his or her best even if the hope of winning was slim. This is a true display of sportsmanship. (即使获胜希望渺茫,这个人也付出了最大的努力。这是体育精神的真正体现。)”可知,此处强调的是“全力以赴”比“输赢结果”更重要,核心是体育精神的本质不在于胜负。B选项“It does not matter who wins or loses. (谁赢谁输并不重要。)”点明了这一核心观点,为下文“全力以赴即体育精神”做铺垫,符合语境。故选B项。
【18题详解】
根据上文“One common sign of poor sportsmanship is when a competitor loses and deliberately shows his or her disgust through negative body language.(恶劣体育精神的一个常见表现是,参赛者输掉比赛后,故意通过负面肢体语言表达不满)” 可知,空格处需列举具体的 “负面肢体语言” 例子。G 选项“This could be not shaking their opponents’ hands or walking off the field by themselves.(这可能包括不与对手握手,或独自离场)” 中的“this”指代前文的“negative body language”,且列举的行为符合 “表达不满” 的场景,符合语境。故选G项。
根据上文“On the flip side, poor sportsmanship also reveals itself in winners who taunt (嘲笑) their opponents. They may even make rude gestures to the opposing team’s fans or not shake their competitor’s hands.(另一方面,不良体育精神也会在获胜者身上体现 —— 他们会嘲笑对手,甚至可能向对方球队的球迷做出粗鲁手势,或是拒绝与对手握手)”可知,选项承接上文对不良体育精神的行为进行了总结。E选项“In the above scenarios, both the winner and loser in the contest are not at their best. (在上述场景中,比赛中的获胜者和失败者都没有展现出最佳状态。)”中的“the above scenarios”精准指代前文提到的两类情况。故选E项。
【20题详解】
上文提到“If people have “lost” a game, they have gained valuable knowledge of how to approach the next opportunity. (如果人们在一场比赛中“输了”,他们会获得如何应对下一次机会的宝贵知识。)”可知,选项承接上文强调失败带来的积极意义。C选项“This brings them a step closer to victory, if not success itself. (这会让他们离胜利更近一步,即便不是成功本身。)”中的“This”指代上文“gained valuable knowledge”,符合语境。故选C项。

【答案】Dear David,
As our school’s 50th anniversary nears, our class plans to gift it a meaningful oil painting to show our gratitude. I’m writing to share the plan with you and I’d like to get your opinions.
The painting features a vibrant school garden under a sunny sky, where students are happily playing — some doing sports on the lawn, others chatting cheerfully under a blooming tree. Their laughter and lively gestures add a dynamic touch to the scene. The thriving trees symbolize our growth, while a winding path represents the journey ahead. We chose rich yet harmonious colors, with dominant green for hope and warm yellow for joy, creating a sense of energy that mirrors our youthful spirit. Through this artwork, we hope to convey our gratitude and everlasting bond with the school.
What do you think of our idea? I’m eager to hear your thoughts. Your advice would be invaluable to us.
Yours,
Li Hua

The annual school sports day was in full swing, with the bright sun shining down on the bustling track field. The air was filled with lively music and the excited cheers of students. Among the participants was Leo, a determined but not particularly athletic boy who had signed up for the challenging 1500-meter run. Though he wasn’t the fastest runner in his class, he had trained hard for this moment and made a promise to his friends that he would give it his all.
As he stood at the starting line, Leo could feel his heart pounding like a drum. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves while focusing on the track ahead. The other runners looked confident and ready, which made him even more anxious. When the starting gun finally fired, all the competitors surged forward like arrows released from their bows.
For the first lap, Leo managed to maintain a steady pace in the middle of the group. He could hear his classmates shouting encouragement from the stands, which gave him strength and motivation. However, as he entered the second lap, he began to feel the strain in his muscles and the burning in his lungs. The distance seemed to stretch endlessly before him.
Then, just as he was rounding a curve, the runner beside him stumbled and accidentally bumped into him. Leo lost his balance completely and fell hard onto the rough track surface. A sharp pain immediately shot through his knee and hands. He watched helplessly as the other runners quickly passed him by, their figures growing smaller in the distance. For a moment, he just sat there, feeling the physical pain mixed with deep disappointment. The finish line now seemed like an impossible goal, and a tempting voice in his head suggested he should just quit and spare himself further embarrassment.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
However when looking up, Leo saw his classmates standing and cheering for him.

Slowly but steadily, Leo began to move forward again.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 1
However, when looking up, Leo saw his classmates standing and cheering for him. Their voices growing even louder, he remembered the promise he had made to himself to never give up. Gritting his teeth, he used his trembling hands to push himself up from the rough track. His knee was still bleeding, but at that moment, he barely felt the physical pain. A new determination filled his heart, pushing him to continue. He knew that even if he had to walk, he would make it to the finish line. Every small step forward now felt like a victory in itself.
Paragraph 2
Slowly but steadily, Leo began to move forward again. The crowd erupted in encouraging applause, recognizing his incredible courage. With each limping step, he grew stronger and more determined. He was now far behind all the other runners, but that no longer mattered to him. He was no longer running for a medal or for first place; he was running to prove himself that he could overcome any obstacles. When he finally crossed the finish line, the playground erupted in the loudest cheers of the day, the sun hugging him with the most glorious light.
①逐渐变得:grow/become
②放弃:give up/abandon
③越过终点线:cross the finish line/cross the finishing line/step over the finish line

A
The upcoming winter season offers a selection of the finest, quickest, toughest and most delightful running events across the UK for those seeking adventure or community spirit.
This event is run by a most environmentally conscious organizer in the country and is therefore only open to local runners to reduce car travel.
B
A Humans should take control of natural resources.
B. Art can help people connect with nature and life.
C. The Forsoutree project is the artist’s best work.
D. Visitors should protect the century-old tree trunk.
C

14 What is Jerry Saltz’s attitude towards AI art?
A. Approving.
