Scientific studies show that laughter produces chemicals to make people feel better, which means clown doctors can be helpful. We are specially trained clowns who work as part of a programme known as “hospital clowning”.I chose this career because of my experience of going to hospital when I was a kid.Although the doctors and nurses did a great job, hospitals weren’t really designed①for children.I spent much of the time when I was there feeling frightened and more than a little bored②!Being a clown doctor means I can help people by entertaining③ them.
Visiting hospitals and other health care facilities,we clown doctors work together with medical professionals. On a typical day,we spend our time cheering up④ patients, their families, and more often than not,the hospital staff, too! We do this by doing magic tricks, singing songs, telling stories and,of course, telling silly jokes. Some children, though, don’t feel like laughing, especially if they’re in pain.We have to be very sensitive⑤ and work closely with the doctors and nurses, who keep us updated on each patient.

Located in the Bahamas,Andros Island is also known as “The Sleeping Giant”,yet with only about 8,000 people living on it.Now the island has a new luxury resort Caerula Mar Club, which opened this February. The
once-abandoned property was discovered by a well-known HGTV reality star couple who transformed it into a hotel. The Canadian design duo Bryan and Sarah Baeumler were vacationing in the Bahamas in the summer of 2017 when they discovered a once-abandoned resort. They instantly decided to purchase it with hopes to transform the 10-acre beachfront property into a luxury hotel.
However, they had no idea how much the investment would end up costing them. Here most supplies had to be shipped in,and the property was in bad shape. The budget for the remodelling should be around $4 million, but they’ve spent well over $10 million. What’s worse,in the fall of 2019,category 5 Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas, and their employees and friends were affected.
Finally, several months later,as they prepared to open the resort to the public, the pandemic struck. They’d just been fully booked throughout the fall and winter months when the new disaster stopped everything as the Bahamas were put on lockdown.
With tourism opening up again, new plans are now for an October launch, but they’re just taking things one day at a time.“I think at the end of this pandemic,we’ll find many people are searching for a different experience,” says Bryan.“Instead of crowding into large resorts, they’ll be going to properties where they can meet people, connect with the locals and experience nature. Our hotel is just such a place.”
Now the couple is focusing on the future while creating new development for visitors.“We certainly have plans to responsibly and sustainably develop the island that will help support the local economy,” says Bryan.

(2025·山东济南高二阶段练习)
There exist cruel wars, fighting and sadness in the world today, so it’s not only necessary, but also important to have a good sense of humour just to help us go through difficult times in our lives. Putting a smile on someone’s face when you know they are feeling depressed, as the saying goes, makes me feel good and warms my heart.
How would you feel if you could not joke around with wife, husband, child, co-worker, neighbor, close friend, or even just someone that you are standing in line with at your corner store? I am always saying things that make others smile or laugh, even if I don’t know the person I’m joking around with. My Grandma always found humour in everything she did, even if it was the hardest job anyone could imagine. This not only relieves stress in any situation, but also is a common manner to speak to others that are around you.
I know of a few people that don’t have a funny bone in their bodies, as they say. Everyone around them could be rolling on the floor after hearing a great joke and they would sit there without the slightest smile on their faces. They don’t get the joke that makes others laugh. I am busting a gut while they just sit there, looking at me as if I were from outer space. How can people not get a really funny joke?
Laughing is essential to keep your stress levels under control. Without humour, we would find ourselves with a lot of psychological problems, or on a lot of medications to keep us from going crazy. There is too much sadness and a little light in our lives.
Therefore, I believe our best medicine is to get together and tell some jokes and have some fun laughing together.

(2025·新疆兵团高二月考)
Ever since I can remember,I have always enjoyed making myself and others laugh.Humour has always played an important role in my life as it was key in helping me develop my personality and outlook on life through childhood.
What I did not realize, however, was why or how it made me feel better about myself.I wanted to find out just exactly how humour affects us in our lives, and whether or not it played a key role in having a longer and more enjoyable life.
From my research,I found many different ways that humour can influence our emotions and physical health. These benefits are split into two different sections:short-term and long-term.
One example of the short-term benefits of humour would be that laughter induces relaxation. It gets many muscles moving in your body. One reason why muscles get tense is lack of oxygen flow.Once you laugh as a response to humour,it increases the flow of oxygen to the muscles, resulting in a more relaxed and more energy-filled body.Another short-term benefit is that laughter causes pain relief. This is achieved by intense stimulation of organs in the body, which leads to increased circulation and blood flow.
As for the long-term effects, they can be just as rewarding. For example, one thing laughter can do in the long run is improve the overall health of the heart. This happens because, like stated earlier, laughter increases blood flow.Since the heart is the organ that regulates all blood flow in the body, naturally the heart becomes strengthened. One last long-term benefit from humour is that it can reduce stress levels and boost the immune system.
语篇解读 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了幽默给健康带来的短期和长期的益处。

A.Skips. B.Decreases.

34.How does the author show the long-term benefits of humour?
A.By telling stories.
B.By giving examples.
C.By listing numbers.
D.By making comparisons.
√

The Healing Power of Humor
As a heart doctor, I have to deliver a lot of bad news. 36 Not only can it help lift patients’ spirits up, but it actually helps them recover faster. There is tons of scientific evidence that patients who are depressed after heart operations have a higher death rate, and optimistic patients have significantly fewer wound infections. Laughter can cultivate that optimism, and it truly is the best medicine in many ways:
It relaxes patients.
Medical operations usually make patients feel nervous. Some may sweat, have chest pain and feel unusually strong or irregular heartbeats. 37 When people use humor, the nervous system just tones down a bit, and that allows the heart to relax.
It calms fear.
People are scared of their bodies. Humor can crack through the ice and take the fear away. For example, I have to tell patients about the risk of cognitive impairment (认知损伤) after operations. 38 So I tell them in a humorous way that it’s usually just like forgetting second grade. People understand what that means, and it doesn’t seem quite as frightening.
39
After open-heart operation, a patient might say, “Doctor, my chest really hurts.” And I’ll smile and say, “Oh, does it feel like someone opened you up, cut the bone and operated in there?” That tells them the pain is normal and they are going to be fine. So they take their minds off their troubles and worry less.
It helps doctors.
40 When we give the news, we are supposed to help patients in a humane way. A good sense of humor is just like a weapon, and it can beat the difficult situation. As a matter of fact, humor benefits doctors as well. Plus, it is a better way to enjoy life.
A.It removes pain.
B.It eases worries.
C.Humor is a wonderful tool.
D.They’re terrified, fearing the worst.
E.Laughter changes our body chemistry.
F.Breaking bad news is never a pleasant task.
G.Others may even feel like they are choking.

58.答案:which

第二节(满分25分)
(2025·江苏南京高二期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Chad was a friend I met at summer camp. And we love telling corny (老套的) food jokes. “You know what kind of fish you put on a sandwich?” Chad said. “A jellyfish (水母,jelly也有果酱的意思)!” “That was bad,” I laughed. “You know why the bread dough (面团) was sad? It just wanted to be kneaded (揉,音同needed).”“Wow, that was even worse,” Chad laughed back.
Joking and laughing with Chad was turning out to be one of my favorite parts of camp. But a couple of days later, his joking around got confusing.
“Hey,” he said, “did you forget your eyeglasses today?” I shook my head. “I don’t wear glasses.”
“I just figured you couldn’t see very well,” he said. “The friendship bracelet (手链) you’re making looks so ugly, you should call it an enemy bracelet. Get it?”
“Oh, ha! Yeah,” I said in a confused, not-exactly-laughing kind of way. But before I had a chance to stop and think about how those words actually made me feel, it was time to move on to the next activity.
That night, when it was lights-out time, I lay awake, feeling not good. Half of my brain was thinking, “Chad was just joking around; don’t take it so hard.” But the other half of my brain was thinking, “Those bracelet comments felt more mean than fun. I knew that truly funny things shouldn’t make my stomach hurt.”
The next day, Chad made another one of his “jokes” on the field. “Amy must think we’re playing golf instead of basketball,” he paused and smiled. Seeing my confusion, Chad said that each time Amy got the ball, it would just roll on the ground.”
“Chad,” I said. “I don’t think it’s funny.” “Why? What happened to your sense of humor?” he asked.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
I took a deep breath and decided to tell him my true feeling. ____________
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Hey,Chad, I guess, we might have different ideas of what’s funny,” I began, my voice steady despite the butterflies in my stomach. I continued to explain that I did love our food jokes, but I didn’t think that “enemy bracelet” comment was funny. I also mentioned the incident with Amy, emphasizing that it felt like he was making fun of her, not the situation. “Basically, I think laughing with people is way more fun than laughing at them.”
After a moment of heavy silence, Chad’s response came. ___________
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“You’re right. I didn’t realize my jokes could be hurtful. I’m sorry,” he admitted, his eyes reflecting a newfound understanding. A wave of relief washed over me as I responded, “I appreciate your apology, Chad. Let’s go back to the jokes that make everyone laugh, alright?” His smile slowly returned, genuine and beautiful. From that day on, our friendship was once again filled with laughter and the rest of the summer camp was a mix of activities and joy, just the way it was meant to be.
