A
(2025·河南高一上阶段练习)Three weeks ago,I started a movement. It all began with a usual conversation with my friend Clare one day, where we railed (抱怨) against the terrible situation we found ourselves in.
As mothers of kids on the brink of (在……的边缘) smartphone age,we either give our children right to get something that opens the door to social media filled with bad things,or make them feel alienated for not keeping up with others at their ages.
So,Clare and I decided to start a WhatsApp group named Parents United for a Smartphone Free Childhood to support each other on the lonely road of smartphone refusal, which we felt we had to take for our kids. For two days,it was just the two of us,mostly silent.I posted about our group on Instagram. When I woke up in the morning, the group had already reached its maximum limit (最大限度).So,we then started a second group, but that one also reached its limit soon.We were not alone, far from it.
The groups were pretty disordered,so we encouraged people to start their own regional groups. Before our eyes,50 were set up across the country. We suggested people start their own schoolspecific groups,as the real power in reducing children's pressure lies within their own school and class.Three weeks later, there was a Smartphone Free Childhood WhatsApp community in every county in the UK,and thousands of local school groups within those.
It's a divisive (有争议的) problem, and one that troubles some parents who have already got their kids smartphones because they want to keep their kid safe on the journey to and from school. But an old phone with only call and text functions (功能) does exactly the same job.We want parents to have this discussion without awkwardness, judgement or division to get together and change the norm, because childhood is too short to spend on a smartphone.

Alexa,turn on the lights.”
Consumers (消费者) like the idea that a simple voice command (命令) like this can make their home a place of simplicity, where having a simple conversation with a humanlike personal assistant such as Amazon's Alexa, completes small tasks like turning on the lights, changing the temperature,or checking the weather.
While a number of voiceactivated smart home systems have proved to be popular with consumers, the introduction of handsfree gesture (手势) control systems presents a different option for homeowners.
Chicagobased Fibaro offers the Fibaro Swipe,a wireless gesture control pad that performs tasks and controls smart home devices with the wave of a hand. The device recognizes six gestures — up,down, left, right, circle to the left, and circle to the right,or can be programmed with more complex sequences (序列).
“We developed Swipe to offer an entirely new way of interacting with technology in the home,” said Rich Bira, managing director of Fibaro USA.“Smart home consumers no longer have to worry about having their smartphone beside them at home to control their devices and ‘scenes’— Swipe will deliver a notouch access point to control them all.”
A similar product,Bixi,is also making its way into the homes of consumers. It's the first able (便携式的) handgesture recognition device from Francebased technology startup Biuemint Labs.It connects to phones, pads and smart home devices through Bluetooth and recognizes gestures for contactless use.If your hands are dirty from cooking but you need to scroll (滚动) down to see the rest of a recipe (菜谱),Bixi will recognize the hand gestures to perform the action for you.
“We've created Bixi to remove the inconvenience of having to physically interact with a touch screen, removing the need to touch or even be in front of your device,” says Vijayaraghavan Narayanan, founder and CEO of Bluemint Labs.
Will gesturecontrolled smart home control systems outperform those that are voiceactivated? Let's wait and see.
5.Why does the author mention Alexa at the beginning?
A.To introduce a new smart home device.
B.To stress the need for voiceactivated systems.
C.To lead up to a discussion on handsfree devices.
D.To encourage consumers to use voice commands.
根据第二段“Consumers (消费者) like the idea that a simple voice command (命令) like this can make their home a place of simplicity, where having a simple conversation with a humanlike personal assistant such as Amazon's Alexa, completes small tasks like turning on the lights, changing the temperature,or checking the weather.(消费者喜欢这样的想法,一个简单的语音命令可以让他们的家变得简单,在那里与像亚马逊的Alexa这样的类人的个人助理进行简单的对话,完成像开灯、改变温度或查看天气这样的小任务。)”以及第三段“While a number of voiceactivated smart home systems have proved to be popular with consumers, the introduction of handsfree gesture (手势) control systems presents a different option for homeowners.(虽然许多声控智能家居系统已经被证明很受消费者欢迎,但手势控制系统的引入为房主提供了一个不同的选择。)”
6.How does the author support the idea presented in paragraph 3?
A.By giving examples. B.By analyzing causes.
C.By stating arguments. D.By making comparisons.
根据第三段“While a number of voiceactivated smart home systems have proved to be popular with consumers, the introduction of handsfree gesture (手势) control systems presents a different option for homeowners.(虽然许多声控智能家居系统已经被证明很受消费者欢迎,但手势控制系统的引入为房主提供了一个不同的选择。)”,第四段“Chicagobased Fibaro offers the Fibaro Swipe,a wireless gesture control pad that performs tasks and controls smart home devices with the wave of a hand.(总部位于芝加哥的Fibaro公司推出了无线手势控制板Fibaro Swipe,用户只需挥挥手就能完成任务并控制智能家居设备。)”以及第六段“A similar product,Bixi,is also making its way into the homes of consumers.(一款类似的产品Bixi也正在进入消费者的家庭。)” 故选A。
