Since childhood, Sheppard had always been a keen dancer. But now she rarely left her Bronx apartment. She was afraid that, unable to see a stranger approaching, she would be knocked down on the streets. In fact, mostly, she worried about the way she would appear to the world. She wondered constantly, “What if people look at me differently, and treat me differently?” After several months of grief and fear, Sheppard resolved to keep moving. Hard as it was, Sheppard forced herself to go out. She attended a social event for people with visual problems, and was shocked to find that not only did no one dance, but they barely moved. “Oh no!” she told herself. “That is not the way I want to live!” She bought a walking stick and named it Tyreek, which she had always planned on giving a son if she had one. Sheppard continued to work at her library job at The New York Times until her vision worsened in her 50s. And she kept moving and dancing. Sheppard was 61 when she attended a summer camp for the blind in 2008, where she taught her first line dancing class. After that, she asked a Manhattan community center run by Visions if she could teach her class there, but she was told no and that it would be too dangerous for the students. Still, she persisted, and soon convinced the administrators to let her teach line dancing on a volunteer basis. Her classes proved to be so popular that in 2012, Visions hired her to be on staff. Sheppard was excited. She was teaching over a dozen students dance steps. But Sheppard instructed her beloved students on far more than that. With constant encouragement, she also managed to make dignity and independence take root in them. In her classes, the students could truly be themselves. 4. Why was Sheppard unwilling to leave her apartment? A. She had a lot of housework to do. B. She had to attend her son at home. C. She was afraid of being looked down upon. D. She was worried about getting involved in accidents. 5. How did Sheppard feel about her walking stick? A. She was often greatly embarrassed by it. B. She regarded it as a temporary necessity. C. She treated it simply as an ordinary tool. D. She valued it as something special. 6. Why did the community center refuse Sheppard’s request at first? A. They didn’t have enough space for dance classes. B. They were concerned about the students’ safety. C. They didn’t believe Sheppard could teach well. D. They thought dancing wasn’t suitable for blind people. 7. What did Sheppard’s students learn from her? A. Humor and patience. B. Intelligence and honesty. C. Imagination and creativity. D. Self-respect and self-reliance. C 5. D 6. B 7. 根据第一段中“She was afraid that, unable to see a stranger approaching, she would be knocked down on the streets. In fact, mostly, she worried about the way she would appear to the world. She wondered constantly, “What if people look at me differently, and treat me differently?” (她担心自己看不见陌生人走近,会在街上被撞倒。事实上,大多数时候,她更担心自己在世人眼中的样子。她总是在想:“如果人们用不同的眼光看我,用不同的方式对待我,该怎么办呢?”)”可知,Sheppard不愿离开公寓,主要是因为担心别人用异样的眼光看待她、区别对待她,即害怕被轻视。故选C项。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段中“She bought a walking stick and named it Tyreek, which she had always planned on giving a son if she had one. (她买了一根拐杖,给它取名叫Tyreek,这是她一直打算如果自己有儿子的话,给儿子取的名字。)”可知,Sheppard给拐杖起了一个原本计划给儿子的名字,这体现出她将拐杖视为特殊的存在,而非普通工具。故选D项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“After that, she asked a Manhattan community center run by Visions if she could teach her class there, but she was told no and that it would be too dangerous for the students. (之后,她询问了由Visions运营的曼哈顿社区中心是否可以在那里教课,但她被告知不行,因为对学生来说太危险了。)”可知,社区中心最初拒绝Sheppard的请求是因为他们担心学生的安全。故选B项。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“But Sheppard instructed her beloved students on far more than that. With constant encouragement, she also managed to make dignity and independence take root in them. In her classes, the students could truly be themselves. (但Sheppard教给她的学生们的远不止这些。通过不断的鼓励,她还让尊严和独立在学生们心中扎根。在她的课堂上,学生们可以真正做自己。)”可知,Sheppard的学生从她那里学到了自尊和自立。故选D项。 C Everyone knows that dogs are supposed to be our best friends . Could it be that they know what we are thinking? Whether it’s getting excited at the prospect of a walk or knowing that tasty food is coming soon, are our dogs reading our minds? Now, by mind-reading we’ re not talking about knowing our deepest thoughts in detail, but various psychologists have suggested that dogs might have a theory of mind. What this means is that they are aware that other creatures, like humans, are able to see and understand things in different ways. In various experiments, it appears that dogs are able to identify who is paying them attention. They are more likely to ask for food from someone if there is a reason that the human would know where the dog treats are . If dogs have been forbidden food by someone, they are more likely to try and get it quietly. As well as these behavioural studies, there are other things that show how dogs are able to relate closely to humans. Brain imaging studies have shown not only that canine brains react to human voices, but that they also show an emotional response to those human sounds which demonstrate strong feelings, such as laughing or crying. Brain scan studies have also shown that human faces also provoke an emotional response in dogs. Other studies have shown that sweat from people feeling scared could make dogs feel more stressed than sweat from happy people. There is some debate about whether dogs have evolved to respond to human emotions as they have become domesticated or whether this behaviour is a learned reaction to stimuli. Experiments like those described above have also been carried out on wolves that have been raised by humans/who may have learned to respond to their carer’s behaviour, but do not have the genes of a domesticated species/Wolves did show some abilities to respond to human emotions, but were less able to pick up more subtle clues. Whether it’s learned or innate, dogs’ ability to read human emotions and intentions is one reason that we have included them in our lives for centuries. It’s also why they have been successful as assistance dogs, helping their owners to get through everyday life. 8. Why do dogs usually ask some specific humans for food? A. Those humans often offer more dog treats. B. Those humans are aware of where the dog treats are kept. C. Those humans are more kind to dogs. D. Those humans have more spare time. 9. What do brain imaging studies show about dogs? A. Dogs’ brains only react to human voices with strong feelings. B. Scared people’s sweat stresses dogs more than other sounds. C. Human faces affect dogs’ emotions more than voices. D. Dogs have emotional responses to human voices and faces. 10. What can the wolf experiment show? A. Learned reactions have little to no effect on how animals respond to humans. B. Domestication has made dogs more dependent on humans than wolves are. C. Wolves are less intelligent than dogs when it comes to interacting with humans. D. Genes may play a role in animals’ ability to understand human emotional clues. 11. What can be inferred about the relationship between dogs and humans from the text? A. Dogs’ emotion-reading helps them stay with humans. B. Only assistance dogs help humans. C. Humans keep dogs for their looks. D. Dogs’ ability to read human emotions is completely innate rather than learned. B 9. D 10. D 11. 根据第二段“They are more likely to ask for food from someone if there is a reason that the human would know where the dog treats are.(如果人类知道狗零食放在哪里,它们更有可能向这个人要食物。)” 根据第三段“Brain imaging studies have shown not only that canine brains react to human voices, but that they also show an emotional response to those human sounds which demonstrate strong feelings, such as laughing or crying. Brain scan studies have also shown that human faces also provoke an emotional response in dogs.(脑成像研究表明,狗的大脑不仅对人类的声音有反应,而且对那些表现出强烈情感的人类声音,如笑声或哭声,也有情绪反应。脑扫描研究还表明,人类的脸也会在狗身上引起情绪反应。)”可知,脑成像研究对狗的发现是狗对人类的声音和面部表情有情绪反应。故选D。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Experiments like those described above have also been carried out on wolves that have been raised by humans/ who may have learned to respond to their carer’s behaviour, but do not have the genes of a domesticated species/ Wolves did show some abilities to respond to human emotions, but were less able to pick up more subtle clues.(上述类似的实验也在由人类饲养的狼身上进行过,这些狼可能已经学会了对饲养者的行为做出反应,但它们没有驯化物种的基因。狼确实表现出了一些对人类情绪做出反应的能力,但它们不太能够捕捉到更微妙的线索。)”可知,狼的实验说明基因可能在动物理解人类情感线索的能力中发挥作用。故选D。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Whether it’s learned or innate, dogs’ ability to read human emotions and intentions is one reason that we have included them in our lives for centuries. It’s also why they have been successful as assistance dogs, helping their owners to get through everyday life.(无论是后天习得的还是天生的,狗解读人类情绪和意图的能力是我们几百年来一直将它们纳入我们生活的原因之一。这也是它们作为辅助犬成功的原因,帮助主人度过日常生活。)”可知,狗解读人类情绪的能力有助于它们与人类相处。故选A。 D A recent study from Germany, published in Frontiers in Communication, reveals a surprising result about our daily AI(Artificial Intelligence)interactions. The study focused on the energy consumption of large language models. According to researchers, the most advanced AI models can emit (排放) over 2, 000 grams of CO2 equivalent (当量) to answering just 500 questions. The study tested 14 different AI models, ranging from small 7-billion-parameter (参数) systems to massive 72-billion-parameter ones. The top-performing Cogito model (70 billion parameters) achieved 84.9% accuracy but emitted 1,341 grams of CO2 — nearly 50 times more than the smallest model. When AI models think out loud(showing their reasoning step-by-step like a student), energy use jumps 4 to 6 times higher than regular responses. On the other hand, when asked simple multiple-choice questions that should require just a one-letter answer, some reasoning models generated responses with over 14,000 words. One model produced a single answer that was 37, 575 words long, longer than short novels! The verbosity comes with a cost. The study tracked “tokens”, which are units of text that AI models process and generate. While basic models might use 37 tokens to answer a question, reasoning models averaged over 1,400 tokens per response, with some stretching into the thousands. However, not all the findings were concerning. The research revealed that some models strike a middle ground between performance and environmental impact. The Qwen 2.5 model with 72 billion parameters achieved strong 77.6% accuracy while emitting just 427 grams of CO2 equivalent, less than one-third the emissions of comparable reasoning models. Generative AI now consumes 29.3 terawatt-hours annually — equal to Ireland’s entire electricity use. Yet shockingly, only 2% of AI research papers mention carbon emissions. “If users know the exact CO2 cost of their AI-generated outputs, such as casually turning themselves into an action figure, they might be more selective and thoughtful about when and how they use these technologies,” says researcher Maximilian Dauner. The bottom line: Our drive for smarter AI comes with an environmental price we can no longer brush aside. 12. What did researchers discover about AI models? A. The smarter, the more energy-hungry. B. The larger, the less energy consumption. C. Thinking out loud lowers CO2 output. D. Small models perform best in accuracy. 13. What does the underlined word “verbosity” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Performance. B. Lengthiness. C. Restriction. D. Difference. 14. Why does the author mention the Qwen 2.5 model? A. To compare energy use with Ireland’s. B. To prove larger models waste energy. C. To highlight the top-performing model. D. To show greener models can be available. 15. What does the last paragraph imply about AI? A. Its future use is seriously questioned. B. Its environmental costs can be avoidable. C. Its sustainability efforts are surely enough. D. Its negative effect on the earth is ignored. A 13. B 14. D 15. 根据第二段中“The top-performing Cogito model (70 billion parameters) achieved 84.9% accuracy but emitted 1,341 grams of CO2 — nearly 50 times more than the smallest model.(表现最好的Cogito模型(700亿参数)准确率达到84.9%,但排放了1341克二氧化碳,几乎是最小模型的50倍。)” 故选A。 根据第三段中“One model produced a single answer that was 37, 575 words long, longer than short novels! The verbosity comes with a cost.(一个模型生成了一个长达37575个单词的答案,比短篇小说还长!这种verbosity是有代价的。)”可知,一个模型生成的答案很长,所以这种冗长是有代价的,故推测verbosity意为“冗长”。A. Performance.表现;B. Lengthiness.冗长;C. Restriction.限制;D. Difference. 根据第四段中“However, not all the findings were concerning. The research revealed that some models strike a middle ground between performance and environmental impact. The Qwen 2.5 model with 72 billion parameters achieved strong 77.6% accuracy while emitting just 427 grams of CO2 equivalent, less than one-third the emissions of comparable reasoning models.(然而,并非所有的发现都令人担忧。研究表明,一些模型在性能和环境影响之间取得了平衡。拥有720亿参数的Qwen 2.5模型达到了77.6%的准确率,同时只排放了427克二氧化碳当量,不到同类推理模型排放量的三分之一。)”可知,作者提到Qwen 2.5模型是为了说明更环保的模型是存在的。故选D。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“Generative AI now consumes 29.3 terawatt-hours annually — equal to Ireland’s entire electricity use. Yet shockingly, only 2% of AI research papers mention carbon emissions.(生成式人工智能现在每年消耗29.3太瓦时的电力,相当于爱尔兰的全部用电量。然而,令人震惊的是,只有2%的人工智能研究论文提到了碳排放。)”可知,最后一段暗示了人工智能对地球的负面影响被忽视了。故选D。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 The desire to learn from successful individuals is a natural instinct, yet it can lead to significant errors in judgment due to a phenomenon known as “survivorship bias (偏差).” This occurs when we focus only on those who have succeeded while ignoring those who have failed despite having similar features. ____16____ A classic example of survivorship bias can be traced back to World War Ⅱ, when mathematician Abraham Wald was tasked with helping the American military protect airplanes from enemy fire. Initially, their plan had been to examine the planes returning from combat (战斗), see where they were hit the worst and then strengthen those areas. ____17____ The planes that didn’t return were those that had been hit in areas vital to their survival. Thus, the military was at risk of fortifying (加强) parts of the aircraft that could withstand damage rather than those that were critical to keeping them in the air. ____18____ For instance, fitness centers often showcase members with quick results, ignoring those who quit after little progress. Similarly, companies may tend to copy the strategies of successful competitors without recognizing the potential dangers that lead others to fail. Even in the field of science, publication bias can bend understandings. ____19____. While tales of billionaires like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg can inspire, they also overshadow the fact that many who skip higher education do not experience the same success. In the UK, for instance, graduates have a significantly higher employment rate and earning potential than non-graduates. Ultimately, while learning from success is valuable, it’s essential to consider the full picture. ____20____ By acknowledging survivorship bias, we can make more informed decisions and avoid potential mistakes in our pursuits. A. This is the so-called survivorship bias B. However, the analysis missed a crucial point C. Survivorship bias appears in various aspects of life D. Then Wald based the new designs on his mathematical analysis E. In so doing, we risk drawing misleading conclusions F. Individuals with greater success and wealth can further strengthen the bias G. Success can often be linked to factors beyond personal qualities or decisions 【答案】16. E 17. B 18. C 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 根据前文“This occurs when we focus only on those who have succeeded while ignoring those who have failed despite having similar features.(当我们只关注那些成功了的人,而忽略那些尽管有相似特征但失败了的人时,就会发生这种情况。)” 【17题详解】 前文“Initially, their plan had been to examine the planes returning from combat (战斗), see where they were hit the worst and then strengthen those areas.(最初,他们的计划是检查从战斗中返回的飞机,看看它们受打击最严重的地方,然后加强这些地方。)”讲述了最初他们计划检查返回飞机的受损情况并改善,后文“The planes that didn’t return were those that had been hit in areas vital to their survival.(没有返回的飞机是那些在对其生存至关重要的地区被击中的飞机。)” 【18题详解】 根据后文“For instance, fitness centers often showcase members with quick results, ignoring those who quit after little progress. Similarly, companies may tend to copy the strategies of successful competitors without recognizing the potential dangers that lead others to fail. Even in the field of science, publication bias can bend understandings.(例如,健身中心经常向会员展示快速见效的效果,而忽略那些进步不大后放弃的人。同样,公司可能倾向于复制成功竞争对手的战略,而没有意识到导致其他公司失败的潜在危险。即使在科学领域,发表偏差也会扭曲理解。)”可知,后文举例讨论了在健身中心、公司、科学方面存在的生存偏见,由此可知,空处应讲述生存偏见存在于生活的各个方面,C项“生存偏见出现在生活的各个方面。”符合题意。故选C。 【19题详解】 根据后文“While tales of billionaires like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg can inspire, they also overshadow the fact that many who skip higher education do not experience the same success.(虽然比尔·盖茨和马克·扎克伯格等亿万富翁的故事可以鼓舞人心,但它们也掩盖了这样一个事实,即许多跳过高等教育的人并没有取得同样的成功。)” 【20题详解】 根据前文“Ultimately, while learning from success is valuable, it’s essential to consider the full picture.(最终,虽然从成功中学习是有价值的,但考虑全局是至关重要的。)” As a child, I was convinced that a career in health was for me. After school, they would catch fish or swim in it,adding color and fun to their life. When they were in middle school, however, they started to lose the eagerness to play in the river. The once crystal-clear water was now dirty and smelly with garbage such as bottles and plastic bags floating on its surface, and the fish that once swam lively here seemed to be gone. They really got upset about it. Nothing changed until one day Alex attended a lecture on protecting the earth from being polluted in the school. He was shocked to see the terrible pollution caused by human's activities and got to appreciate the importance of protecting the earth. After the lecture,Alex walked home with a heavy heart, concerned about the huge amount of annoying rubbish in the river.Suddenly an idea flashed across his mind. He rushed to Ben's home and couldn't wait to share it with Ben. Later, they went to the riverbank together. “Our river is sick,” said Alex in a worried tone, “We need to find a way to heal it.” “Yes,”said Ben in agreement. “It's our responsibility to protect the hometown river. What can we do?” Alex suggested eagerly, “We should clean up the garbage from the riverbanks at weekends.” Ben nodded thoughtfully and said, “That is a good idea. But it is impossible for only two of us to remove so much garbage. Besides, the villagers may throw garbage into the river again and again.” “You're right! Maybe we need more helpers and also need to educate more people about the importance of keeping our river clean and encourage them to make a change.” Finally, they both decided that something must be done before it was too late. Quickly Alex and Ben went home and began planning. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, they put up the posters in and around the village. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Quickly Alex and Ben went home and began planning. They decided to make posters to raise awareness among the villagers about the pollution of the River Jade. They spent hours designing and creating eye-catching posters that depicted the once beautiful river and the current sad state it was in. They also wrote down some practical suggestions on how to keep the river clean, such as not throwing garbage into it and regularly organizing clean-up activities. The next day, they put up the posters in and around the village. At first, not many people paid attention. But Alex and Ben didn't give up. They went from door to door, explaining to the villagers the importance of a clean river. Gradually, some villagers started to show interest and agreed to join their efforts. On the weekend, a group of villagers, young and old, gathered by the riverbank. Together, they spent the whole day cleaning up the garbage. As time went by, more and more villagers joined in. The River Jade gradually regained its former cleanliness and the fish came back. Alex and Ben's efforts had made a huge difference to their hometown. 续写线索:回家计划——制作海报——张贴海报——村民反应——村民参与——河流恢复 词汇激活 行为类 ①计划:plan/scheme 张贴:put up/stick 参与:join in/participate in 情绪类 担心:be worried/be concerned ②感兴趣:show interest/be keen on 【点睛】[高分句型1]. C Everyone knows that dogs are supposed to be our best friends . D A recent study from Germany, published in Frontiers in Communication, reveals a surprising result about our daily AI(Artificial Intelligence)interactions. C Its sustainability efforts are surely enough. D. Its negative effect on the earth is ignored. The desire to learn from successful individuals is a natural instinct, yet it can lead to significant errors in judgment due to a phenomenon known as “survivorship bias (偏差).” This occurs when we focus only on those who have succeeded while ignoring those who have failed despite having similar features. Success can often be linked to factors beyond personal qualities or decisions 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15 小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。 As a child, I was convinced that a career in health was for me. Maybe we need more helpers and also need to educate more people about the importance of keeping our river clean and encourage them to make a change.” Finallythey both decided that something must be done before it was too late. Quickly Alex and Ben went home and began planning. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, they put up the posters in and around the village. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
