B One Sunday, Nicholas, a teenager, went skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine. In the early afternoon, when he was planning to go home, a fierce snowstorm swept the area. Unable to see far, he accidentally turned off the path. Before he knew it, Nicholas was lost, all alone! He didn’t have food, water or a phone. He was getting colder by the minute. Nicholas had no idea where he was. He tried not to panic. He thought about all the survival shows he had watched on TV. It was time to put the tips he had learned to use. He decided to stop skiing. There would be a better chance of someone finding him if he stayed put. The first thing he did was to seek shelter from the freezing wind and snow. If he didn’t, his body temperature would get very low, which could quickly kill him. Using his skis, Nicholas built a snow cave. He gathered a huge mass of snow and dug a hole in the middle. Then he piled branches on top of himself, like a blanket, to stay as warm as he could. By that evening, Nicholas was really hungry. He ate snow and drank water from a nearby stream so that his body wouldn’t lose too much water. Not knowing how much longer he could last, Nicholas huddled (蜷缩) in his cave and slept. The next day, Nicholas went out to look for help, but he couldn’t find anyone. He had to follow his tracks and return to the snow cave. On Tuesday, Nicholas went out again to seek help. He had walked for about a mile when a volunteer searcher found him. Having been stuck in the snow for two days, Nicholas was saved. Had it not been for TV, Nicholas might not have survived this snowstorm. He had often watched Bear Grylls’ survival show Man vs.Wild. That’s where he learned the tips that saved his life. When Bear heard about Nicholas’ amazing deeds, he was super impressed that Nicholas had made it since he knew better than anyone how hard Nicholas had to work to stay alive. 4. What caused Nicholas to get lost on the mountain? A. Having no guides to help him. B. Forgetting the way back. C. The terrible weather. D. His poor eyesight. 5. How did Nicholas keep himself warm? A. He built a snow cave. B. He found a shelter. C He kept on skiing. D. He made a fire. 6. Why was Bear Grylls’ show mentioned? A. It was Nicholas’ favorite TV program. B. It taught Nicholas useful knowledge. C. Nicholas shared his story on the show. D. Bear Grylls asked Nicholas to make a TV interview. 7. Which of the following may best describe Nicholas? A. Brave and cool-headed. B. Responsible and curious. C. Lucky and smart. D. Confident and outgoing. C Travel is one of the most exciting experiences a human being can have. Imagine how Italian traveler Marco Polo must have felt when he found himself in China, seeing a way of life quite different from anything he’d seen before. And how wonderful must it have been to Zhang Qian when he returned to China from his journey through Central Asia and West Asia? His brain must have been filled with everything he’d seen and heard, leading to the founding of the Silk Road. Some people have traveled all over the world, and travel is a way of life to them. But among the travels to a specific destination, the first is more likely to be the best. Imagine a person who has been expecting his first travel to the United States. Of course, he may have seen all the famous sights a thousand times on TV. But none of that would compare to the excitement of looking out of the cabin window as the plane lands, watching the cities and streets of the real America come into view. Although travel is often just for recreation (消遣), it’s also educational. We may not know that we are getting an education, but we still are. We’re learning every day: new words, new people, and new ways of life. But this learning takes place in the school of the world, not just the classroom. One of the lessons we learn is undoubtedly a moral (道德上的) one. As we get to know foreign places, we come to understand that there are many different ways to live, and that the way we live isn’t necessarily the best way. Just like British politician Benjamin Disraeli said, “Travel teaches toleration.” 8. Why does the author mention Marco Polo and Zhang Qian? A To explain how the Silk Road was founded. B. To present travel as an amazing experience. C. To show how the way people travel has changed. D. To describe important cultural exchanges in history. 9. What does the author want to convey in Paragraph 3? A. The best trip is often the first in-person experience. B. One’s first trip is usually the most challenging. C. There is always much to learn on one’s first trip. D. People usually make better preparations for their first trips. 10. What can we know from the last two paragraphs? A. Traveling should be included in formal education. B. Traveling improves people’s confidence in their lifestyle. C. There is more to learn in classroom than from adventures. D. A foreign journey may raise people’s cultural understanding. 11. According to the passage, what is one of the key moral lessons that travel teaches? A. The importance of staying at home. B. The value of exploring new places. C. The necessity of being tolerant of different cultures. D. The idea that one’s own culture is better than others. D Some educators are trying to draw students’ attention with technology, such as educational videos, computer gaming and AI, just to name a few. However, teachers using these tools often struggle to keep students focusing on the materials, competing with the latest social media phenomenon, and can feel limited by using them to get some knowledge across. Graphic novels (图画小说) offering graphic information married with text provide a means of attracting students in the classroom. Educators have used this method in their teaching. For example, instead of filling out problem sheets, students in a math class were asked to read a story called Who Killed Professor X?. In this story, all of the suspects (嫌疑人) are famous mathematicians. As they tried to figure out the connections between the suspects, students often forgot that they were doing math — focusing instead on finding secret details to solve the problem. Although this is just one experience for these students, it improves their confidence and shows them how math can be fun. Jason Ho a professor at Marian University, uses Max the Demon Vs Entropy of Doom to teach his physics students about a topic. This topic can be particularly difficult for some students because they can’t physically touch something. Ho said graphic novels can create an attractive learning environment. Most of his students now understand the subject by getting clear explanations for some ideas. Although the Internet offers a lot of math and physics resources (资源), it can be tiring to search through many hours of videos to find the perfect one to get the “aha!” moment in learning. Graphic novels provide a starting point with different specific topics. Want to learn about programming? Try the Secret Coders series. Need more female role models in science? Astronauts: Women on the Final Frontier could be just what you’re looking for. With all that graphic novels offer, we believe that the right set of graphic novels can inspire future scientists as much as any single person can. 12. What problem are some teachers faced with? A. Teaching students to learn self-control. B. Helping students master high-tech knowledge. C. Ensuring the teaching effectiveness of using technology. D. Making all the students take an active part in learning. 13. What is mentioned about graphic novels? A. They can make learning more enjoyable. B. They serve the field of math the best. C. They require students to learn through performance. D. They lead students to work hard on problem sheets. 14. What is probably Jason Ho’s attitude towards teaching with graphic novels? A. Surprised. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Concerned. 15 Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Graphic novels suitable for students B. The great popularity of graphic novels C. How technology influences students’ learning D Why we should use graphic novels in teaching 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Show someone your support Sometimes people who are close to us go through difficult times. That could include coping with an illness or other big changes in their life. ____16____ Just wanting to support them is a good place to begin. Here are some ideas to consider. Let them know you care. Your friend or family member may feel like talking about what they are going through, or they may not. It’s always appropriate to let them know you care and will be there for them. ____17____ Making a video expressing your love for them is another option. You could also ask them if it would be OK to bring or mail them a baked treat, or you might put together a care package. Spend time together. ____18____ If possible, ask if they would like to do something together, like take a walk, watch a movie, or do a puzzle. If it’s a family member who lives far away, you can ask if they want to video chat or talk on the phone. You could also send them photos of your day to help them feel connected. ____19____ People who care about you likely want you to keep your daily routine as much as possible, even while they are going through something challenging. But you might also be able to step in when possible, with tasks like doing the dishes, looking after a pet, or ironing clothes. Pay attention to their needs and wants. This is often the hardest, but most important way to show you care. Even if they are just telling you a story about something silly that happened at the supermarket, it’s important that you respond appropriately. If you ignore them when it comes to simple things, they won’t feel that you care about them.____20____ A. Help out with small tasks. B. Stick to your daily routine. C. Your presence alone can be comforting. D. Even small gestures can mean a lot to others. E. You could show your care by making a card with a note inside. F. It was my first time volunteering in a foreign country. Some visitors hesitated to approach me, likely assuming I couldn’t speak Chinese. To break the ice, I greeted everyone with a big smile and said ___36___ Chinese, “Welcome, how can I help you?” Many were surprised ___37___ (hear) me speak fluently. One family stood out. They had traveled all the way from Shaanxi. As they passed by, their little son ___38___ (shout), “Waiguoren!” — meaning “foreigner” in Chinese. I smiled and asked if they needed help. The father came closer, seeming greatly curious about me and asked many thoughtful questions. One of them was why many Africans eat with their hands instead of ___39___ (use) chopsticks. I explained it’s part of our culture. He even praised my teeth and asked if I used any whitening products. I told him they were ___40___ (natural) like that. He seemed ___41___ (impress).
