“Finn, you’re only eleven years old. You don’t need a mobile phone yet. Your sister Franny has one because she’s older and needs it for school.” said Mr. Fogg.
“We’re flying to Paris, Dad,” Finn replied. “How am I supposed to take pictures and talk to my friends?”
“Here’s my old digital camera You can use it to take pictures.” said Mrs. Fogg.
“Thanks, Mom,” Finn said, but he couldn’t keep his eyes from rolling.
The Foggs spent their first day in Paris at the Louvre Museum. They saw a thousand works of art, including the Mona Lisa. What Finn enjoyed most was watching a lady sketching (画素描) the famous painting.
“That’s really cool!” Finn blurted out.
“Merci, young man,” she said. “Drawing helps me see what is really there.” Finn asked if they could take a photo together. The woman smiled warmly as he took their picture.
Finn found his sister. “You should see this artist,” he told her.
Franny was looking at her phone. “Not now,” she said. “I’m reading about Leonardo da Vinci.”
The next day, the Foggs ate at an outdoor café near the River Seine. The server brought dessert. “This crème brulee is delicious!” Finn exclaimed. He asked the server to take a picture of him posing with his new favorite dessert.
“Oooh, look at this recipe (食谱) for crème brulee,” his mom said, checking her phone. “I’ll make it when we get home.” By the time Mom set her phone down, the waiter had cleared their plates and it was time to leave.
On the last day of the trip, the Foggs went to the Eiffel Tower. Finn used his camera to shoot a video of them rising above the city in the glass elevator. “Look, Dad! We can see Notre Dame Cathedral from here.”
Mr. Fogg was looking at his phone, however. “Did you know there’s a replica of the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas? But it’s only half-size!”
Finn sighed.
On the flight home the next morning, Finn sat next to Franny. “That was the best vacation ever,” he said.
He was scrolling through his photos and videos. Franny was looking over his shoulder.

You have probably seen many cartoons during your life. Some of these cartoons appear in newspapers and others are in books. Others are seen in full-length movies and TV shows. Cartoons are very popular with people but are they works of art?
Works of art are made by artists for a certain purpose. Usually, works of art are made by people to illustrate an idea or show part of a story. You can probably think of many famous works of art, like the Mona Lisa or David. These works of art took a long time to create. The people who made them wanted to show an important idea about the subject of their art. When people think of works of art, they usually think of paintings or sculptures that are known to even people who know little about art. Year after year, people come to look at the Mona Lisa’s strange smile. The sculpture David is similar—a lot of people know the story of how David fought a giant. The sculpture shows David as a hero. Since most of us wish we were heroes, David interests us no matter who we are.
Cartoons can be seen in the same way, since many people who draw cartoons go to art school and study how to create pictures and stories. They think carefully about what ideas or stories they want to show with their work. Cartoons have an advantage over the works of art you see in museums, too. People need to travel to museums to see famous works of art, but a cartoon is as near as the newspaper or the internet. Cartoons talk about ideas that are important to people in a simple and easy-to-understand way. Most people do not need to stare at a cartoon for a long time to understand its meaning.
However, not everyone agrees with the idea that cartoons are art. For example, some cartoons tend to deal with very recent issues, such as political (政治的) cartoons that appear in newspapers. They show an important news item of the day. However, in a few years, the people who look at the cartoons may not know anything about that news item. This means that they will not understand what the cartoon is about. Additionally, some people argue that cartoons take less time to make than other works of art, so they are not true pieces of art.
34. Why do some people think cartoons are not works of art?
A. Because they think cartoons take longer time to create.
B. Because they think cartoons don’t have deep meanings.
C. Because they think cartoons aren’t for people of all ages.
D. Because they think some cartoons have no lasting value
35. What does the underlined word “advantage” mean in this passage?
A. Something better. B. Something worse.
C. Something equal. D. Something similar.
36. What can most possibly be the purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce the steps of how cartoon artists create their works.
B. To show different opinions on whether cartoons are works of art.
C. To explain why people prefer artworks like paintings to cartoons.
D. To share the reasons why cartoons are thought of as works of art.
37. The following sentence would best be placed at the end of _________.
This makes it possible for cartoons to reach more people than most traditional art forms.
A. Paragraph 1 B. Paragraph 2 C. Paragraph 3 D. Paragraph 4

阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容回答问题。每小题答案不超过10个单词。
While the sun shines where you live, it’s night time somewhere else. When you’re eating your breakfast, children in New York City are eating dinner. Why is it happening? It’s mainly because of the Earth’s rotation (旋转) and time zone (时区) division. Here are some facts about time zones.
To understand time zones, you need to know about Greenwich Mean Time (格林威治标准时间). GMT is seen as the starting point of time. Time zones across the world use it as their basis. So when discussing time zones, we mean the number of hours that are ahead of or behind Greenwich.
The International Date Line (an unreal line) separates one calendar day from the next. Imagine you’re on a boat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean (太平洋). You take one step forward, and suddenly, it’s yesterday. You step back, and it’s tomorrow. Sounds like time travel, right? Well, this is exactly what happens at the International Date Line.
Jet lag (时差反应), a common experience for travelers crossing many time zones, is a result of the clock inside our bodies trying to adapt to a new daylight and darkness schedule. For example, a traveller moving from New York to London, a five-time zone difference, might feel tired when London is busy with morning activities. So try to change your sleep habits before travelling to reduce the influence of jet lag.
58. What is GMT seen as?

59. When is it in New York city when we eat breakfast at home?

Joel Sartore is a writer, teacher, and photographer. His words and beautiful images show his love of photography and of the natural world. He was National Geographic’s 2018 Explorer of the Year.
Question 1: How did you start working for National Geographic?
My first job was for a newspaper. After a few years there, I met a National Geographic photographer. He liked my photos and said I should send some to the magazine. So I did. That led to a one-day job. And that led to a nine-day job, and so on.
Question 2: What does it take to become a National Geographic photographer?
To get into National Geographic, you have to give them something they don’t have. It’s not enough just to be a great photographer. You also have to be a scientist, for example, or be able to dive under sea ice, or spend maybe several days in a tree.
Question 3: ▲
It’s now more difficult to work for magazines. Technology (技术) makes it easy to take good pictures, which means there are more photos and photographers. Also, the Web is full of photos from all around the world that are free, or cost very little. These photos are often good enough to be put in books and magazines that once paid for photographers and their photos.
Question 4: What advice do you have for people who want to be photographers?
Well, work hard. Be passionate (热诚的) about every project you work on. Take lots of pictures in different situations. Look at others’ photos thoughtfully and learn from them. And be curious about life. There’s something to photograph everywhere.
But be a photographer for the right reasons. If you do it for the money, you probably won’t really be happy. Do you want to make the world a better place, or make people see things in a different way? If so, you’ll enjoy the work much more.

“Here’s my old digital camera. You can use it to take pictures.” said Mrs.

Paragraph 4
【答案】34. D 35. A 36. B 37. C

细节理解题。根据“For example, some cartoons tend to deal with very recent issues... However, in a few years, the people who look at the cartoons may not know anything about that news item. This means that they will not understand what the cartoon is about. Additionally, some people argue that cartoons take less time to make than other works of art, so they are not true pieces of art”可知,部分人认为卡通不是艺术品的原因之一是有些卡通只涉及近期事件,缺乏持久价值,多年后人们可能因不了解相关背景而无法理解其含义;且有人认为卡通制作时间短。故选D。
【35题详解】
词句猜测题。根据“People need to travel to museums to see famous works of art, but a cartoon is as near as the newspaper or the internet”可知,人们需前往博物馆才能看到著名艺术品,而卡通在报纸或互联网上就能轻易看到,这体现了卡通相较于博物馆艺术品的“优势”。“advantage”应表示“更好的事物、优势”,与“Something better”含义一致。故选A。

【37题详解】
推理判断题。题干句子“This makes it possible for cartoons to reach more people than most traditional art forms”中的“this”应指代前文提到的“卡通易于获取”的特点。第三段提到“Cartoons have an advantage over the works of art you see in museums, too. People need to travel to museums to see famous works of art, but a cartoon is as near as the newspaper or the internet”,该内容正是“卡通易于获取”的体现,与题干句子构成逻辑衔接,使得其能接触到更多人。故选C。

七、阅读表达 (本大题共5小题,每小题2分,共10分)
阅读下面短文,然后根据短文内容回答问题。每小题答案不超过10个单词。

Thanks for listening!
【答案】例文
Dear teachers and classmates,
I am Zhang Hua. Today I am glad to share a story with you. When I entered Grade 9, I struggled with constant stress from heavy coursework, especially in math. Complex problems made me anxious, and I even considered giving up at one point.
My math teacher, Ms. Li, noticed my struggle. She patiently guided me through challenging concepts after class and encouraged me to keep a “problem notebook” to track doubts and progress. Whenever I felt overwhelmed, she reminded me that mistakes were stepping stones to growth.
Her trust helped me shift my mindset. I started tackling difficulties bravely and learned to seek help proactively. Gradually, math became less daunting, and my confidence returned. Now, I face challenges with optimism, knowing perseverance turns obstacles into opportunities. This experience taught me that sunshine teenagers aren’t born—they’re shaped by kindness and courage.
Thanks for listening!
