Since they can’t hear, talking to people can be tough. Fortunately, sign language interpreters step in to bridge this gap. Hao Shuxin, 24, sees sign language as her first language, as her parents are deaf. “I pick up sign language before I could even talk,” she recalled. From a young age, Hao has been helping her parents and other deaf individuals communicate. In 2018, she became a sign language interpreter at a law company in Chongqing, assisting deaf clients in legal matters. Since sign language has a smaller vocabulary, Hao often comes across complex legal terms that have no direct match. In such cases, she patiently breaks down the meaning for deaf people. There are also grammatical differences between Chinese and sign language. “For example, the phrase ‘put out a fire’ is signed as ‘a fire put out’ in sign language, as deaf people describe what they see first,” Hao explained. Besides hand gestures, facial expressions and mouth movements are essential components of sign language. They work together to accurately communicate messages and prevent misunderstandings. To ensure clarity in legal interpretations, Hao sometimes repeats a sentence two or three times for deaf individual. “I feel stressed at work because I worry about being misunderstood, ” she admitted. Part of Hao’s anxiety comes from the fact that sign language has regional “dialects”. The same word can be expressed with different hand gestures depending on where a deaf person is from. “For example, people in Inner Mongolia and Chongqing use different gestures for the word ‘true’,” Hao explained. She believes that patience and compassion (同情) are essential to her work. “My parents are deaf, so I understand the challenges faced by the deaf community. I want to do everything I can to help them,” Hao said. 4. What can be learned about Hao Shuxin? A. She doesn’t like sign language dialects. B. She hopes to be a successful lawyer in Chongqing. C. She learned sign language when she was very small. D. She communicates with others mainly by sign language. 5. What can we infer from the third paragraph? A. The vocabulary of sign language is very large. B. It is not easy to express legal terms in sign language. C. It is hard for deaf people to understand the sign language. D. Sign language and Chinese have the same grammar system. 6. What is Hao’s attitude towards her work as a sign language interpreter? A. Doubtful. B. Discouraged. C. Indifferent. D. Passionate. 7. What does the text mainly talk about? A. Sign language is the first language of the deaf. B. A sign language interpreter has changed all deaf people’s life. C. Sign language has different regional dialects. D. A sign language interpreter guards the silent world. C 5. B 6. D 7. 根据文章第二段中“Hao Shuxin, 24, sees sign language as her first language, as her parents are deaf. “I pick up sign language before I could even talk,” she recalled.(24岁的郝舒欣(Hao Shuxin)将手语视为自己的第一语言,因为她的父母都是聋人。“我在还不会说话的时候就学会了手语,”她回忆道。)”可知,郝舒欣她在很小的时候就学会了手语。故选C。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段中“Since sign language has a smaller vocabulary, Hao often comes across complex legal terms that have no direct match.(由于手语词汇量较少,郝经常遇到没有直接对应的复杂法律术语。)” 根据最后一段“My parents are deaf, so I understand the challenges faced by the deaf community. I want to do everything I can to help them(我的父母都是聋人,所以我理解聋人社区所面临的挑战。我想尽我所能来帮助他们)”可知,她对手语翻译工作是有热诚的,故选D。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段“From a young age, Hao has been helping her parents and other deaf individuals communicate. In 2018, she became a sign language interpreter at a law company in Chongqing, assisting deaf clients in legal matters.(从很小的时候起,郝就一直在帮助她的父母和其他聋哑人交流。2018年,她成为重庆一家律师事务所的手语翻译,协助聋人客户处理法律事务。)”可知,文章围绕手语翻译郝舒欣的工作展开,讲述她如何克服词汇、语法、方言等困难,为听障人士搭建沟通桥梁,守护他们的“无声世界”,因此,“一名手语翻译守护无声世界”最能概括文章主旨。故选 D 项。 C Kyoto’s cherry blossoms — or sakura (樱花) — draw crowds from across the world. But this year the flowers bloomed (开花) nearly two weeks in advance. Global warming, largely driven by fossil fuel (化石燃料), stimulated (刺激) temperatures so high in 2023 that it became the hottest year in history. Warmer springs causing earlier blooms is an event in nature not just related to Kyoto’s famous sakuras, but something scientists are also observing elsewhere — including in Washington D. C. Although flowering times vary annually, the long-term trend shows earlier blooming in D. C. “In D. C., the advance in blooming is probably consistent with, but not scientifically credited to, human-caused climate change,” said Gonzalez, a climate change scientist. Other possible causal influences include the urban heat island effect, he noted. That’s where the research in Kyoto is critical. The city’s sakura records go back more than 1,200 years. In 2020, 2021, and 2023, Kyoto’s sakura saw record-early blooms. A 2022 study found that human-caused climate change is the primary reason, pushing that season forward by roughly 11 days. The early beginning of spring and following cherry tree blooms can result in some serious problems that include blossoms mismatching with their pollinators (授粉者). And if winter continues to warm faster than summer in much of the U. S., the amount of exposure to cold weather that a tree requires in its winter period may not be met — resulting in some trees failing to flower at all in the spring. Peak bloom date may be advanced in the future. But the end result of not having any blossoms, if there’s no winter, may happen sooner than we think. Not only are cherry trees a tool for scientists to understand changing temperatures, but the trees’ flowering also represents a “very visible” historical and cultural symbol for people to celebrate the beginning of spring. For those who haven’t had the opportunity to wander under a line of blooming cherry blossom trees, Gonzalez says the experience is similar to “walking through a church.” 8. What do we know about the earlier blooming in D. C.? A. It is likely to cause global warming. B. It leads to urban heat island effect. C. It probably dues to climate change. D. It has proved scientific in some way. 9. What is a possible consequence of earlier blooming? A. The cherry trees will disappear completely. B. Winters will become warmer than summers. C. Pollinators may not match with blossoms. D. Spring will arrive later than before. 10. Why are cherry blossoms important? A. They bring people spiritual comfort. B. They help scientists study climate change. C. They prevent natural disasters. D. They are beautiful to look at. 11. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. The Cherry Trees Bloom Unusually. B. Scientists Predict Cherry Trees’ Bloom Timing. C. This Year’s Early Cherry Blossom: A Warning Sign. D. Early Cherry Blossom Peak: A Natural Wonder. C 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第二段中“In D. C., the advance in blooming is probably consistent with, but not scientifically credited to, human-caused climate change(在华盛顿特区,花提前开花可能与人类造成的气候变化相一致,但在科学上并没有得到证实)”可知,华盛顿特区早开的花可能与气候变化有关。 根据第四段“The early beginning of spring and following cherry tree blooms can result in some serious problems that include blossoms mismatching with their pollinators (授粉者).(早春和随后的樱花树开花会导致一些严重的问题,包括开花与传粉者不匹配。)” 根据最后一段“Not only are cherry trees a tool for scientists to understand changing temperatures, but the trees’ flowering also represents a “very visible” historical and cultural symbol for people to celebrate the beginning of spring.(樱花树不仅是科学家了解气温变化的工具,而且樱花树的开花也代表了人们庆祝春天开始的“非常明显”的历史和文化象征。)” 通读全文,尤其是第二段“Global warming, largely driven by fossil fuel (化石燃料), stimulated (刺激) temperatures so high in 2023 that it became the hottest year in history. Warmer springs causing earlier blooms is an event in nature not just related to Kyoto’s famous sakuras, but something scientists are also observing elsewhere — including in Washington D. C.(主要由化石燃料驱动的全球变暖,使得2023年的气温急剧升高,以至于这一年成为了有历史记录以来最热的一年。春天变暖导致花期提前,这一自然现象不仅与京都著名的樱花有关,科学家们还在其他地方(包括华盛顿特区)观察到了类似情况。)”可知,本文主要讲的是全球变暖导致樱花提前盛开的现象及其带来的影响,因此最好的标题是C选项“This Year’s Early Cherry Blossom: A Warning Sign.(今年樱花开得早:一个警告信号)”。故选C。 D Drone (无人机) light shows are becoming especially popular in the West. By now, if you live on the U. S. East or West Coasts, you’ve probably been troubled by wildfire smoke. The fires are increasing in frequency and intensity as climate change worsens. And fireworks, as you can guess from their name, cause fires — more than you might think. That’s what caused a handful of California towns to quit fireworks and turn to drones last year. Sydney, Australia, known for its massive fireworks display, is considering doing the same due to the risk of wildfires. And fire danger is now top of mind for many U. S. cities as the Independence Day, or the American national day, nears. In addition to reducing the risk of fires, drone light shows present a safer alternative for the folks behind the curtain. Fireworks injured more than 10,000 people last year because they can accidentally erupt while on the ground. Drones won’t. And since light shows are required to keep the ground below the show clear, there’s no risk of a drone falling from the sky into the crowd. Drones are also less disturbing, creating only a light buzzing noise. Fireworks, on the other hand, can burst your eardrum if you’re standing close enough. That’s a nuisance for some families with animals, small children, or other people who are sensitive to noise. But perhaps the biggest reason for the switch to drones is that they’re thought to be greener. Besides starting fires, firework smoke leaves behind a trail of harmful chemicals and is considered a pollutant. Drones are also a reusable option, capable of flying potentially hundreds of shows before they even require maintenance. That’s a huge benefit to the environment — and to the companies paying to put on these performances. At the end of the day, though, some cities are likely switching to drones simply because they’re cooler. That’s not to say that fireworks aren’t cool. But drones allow for more creativity, with the ability to synchronize (同步) lights to music and recreate complex images in the sky. Nevertheless, it’s still too early to rush to the conclusion that drones will completely take the place of fireworks in the near future. 12. Why are fireworks given up in some towns? A. They are too expensive. B. They bring along fire risks. C. They speed up climate change. D. They are not cool any more. 13. How does the author develop paragraph 3? A. By making a comparison. B. By analyzing causes and effects. C. By giving a definition. D. By referring to data from previous studies. 14. What does the underlined word “nuisance” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Reward. B. Attraction. C. Instance. D. Annoyance. 15. What will the author probably continue to talk about? A. The potential challenges drones will face. B. The similarities shared by drones and fireworks. C. The importance of drones in promoting economy. D. The strong competition from companies in different industries. B 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第一段中“And fireworks, as you can guess from their name, cause fires — more than you might think.(烟花,正如你从它的名字可以猜到的那样,会引起火灾——比你想象的要多)”和第二段中“That’s what caused a handful of California towns to quit fireworks and turn to drones last year. Sydney, Australia, known for its massive fireworks display, is considering doing the same due to the risk of wildfires.(这就是去年加州一些城镇放弃烟花转向无人机的原因。澳大利亚的悉尼以其大规模的烟花表演而闻名,由于野火的风险,正在考虑也这样做)”可知,一些城镇放弃烟花是因为它们会带来火灾风险。故选B项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段内容,尤其是“In addition to reducing the risk of fires, drone light shows present a safer alternative for the folks behind the curtain. Fireworks injured more than 10,000 people last year because they can accidentally erupt while on the ground. Drones won’t.(除了降低火灾风险外,无人机灯光秀还为幕后人员提供了一个更安全的替代方案。去年,烟花造成10000多人受伤,因为它们可能会在地面上意外爆炸。无人机则不会)”可知,本段通过对比烟花和无人机灯光秀在安全性方面的差异,来说明无人机灯光秀的优势。由此推知,作者是通过对比的方式来展开第三段的。故选A项。 根据画线词上文“Fireworks, on the other hand, can burst your eardrum if you’re standing close enough.(另一方面,如果你站得足够近,烟花可能会震破你的耳膜)”以及后文“for some families with animals, small children, or other people who are sensitive to noise(对于一些有动物、小孩或对噪音敏感的人来说)”可知,烟花的噪音对于一些人来说是令人烦恼的。 根据最后一段“Nevertheless, it’s still too early to rush to the conclusion that drones will completely take the place of fireworks in the near future.(然而,现在就急于得出无人机将在不久的将来完全取代烟花的结论还为时过早)”可知,作者认为现在还不能得出无人机将完全取代烟花的结论,由此推知,接下来作者可能会继续谈论无人机面临的挑战。故选A项。 Tips for Upcoming Senior Two The upperclassmen often describe Senior Two in No.7 High as a year with “much more homework, more frequent exams and more fierce competitions”. ____16____ ●Manage your time carefully and make the most of it. Every day, their teachers gave them loads of homework and told them the test was very important and that they ought to spare no effort to perform well in it. Everyone followed the teachers’ instructions and made preparations for it, except Marc. He just turned a deaf ear to it. He thought he would rather play football than study. His mum and dad repeated the importance of revision for exams over and over again. They told him that he should be working hard preparing for the test. But the weather was sunny and he thought he had better things to do. “Shall we go to the park?” he said to his friend Huck one afternoon. “It’s a nice day. We could play football and kick around.” Huck shook his head. “I’m supposed to review my lessons,” he said. “I’m going home to do some math.” Marc was amazed. “You’d rather do math than play football?” “Math is important. Besides, my mum says she will buy me a mountain bike if I do well in the math exam.” “That’s crazy,” said Marc. Huck shrugged (耸肩) and replied, “Wait until I beat you in the test and you will watch me riding past on my mountain bike!” “You won’t beat me,” said Marc. “Oh yes, I will.” “Oh no, you won’t! That will never happen. Just wait and see!” For the first time ever, Marc wanted to perform well. He couldn’t bear it if his friend came top and he did badly. So when he got home, he opened his math book. But there was so much to do. All of a sudden, he felt like he’d forgotten everything he had learned that year! He didn’t know where to start. When his sister Lily came in, he was sitting expressionlessly by the desk, just staring out of the window. “You don’t look happy, Marc. What’s wrong?” she said. Explaining what had happened, especially the bet between him and Huck, he told Lily his decision. He wanted to make careful preparations for the exam, but ran into difficulties with math. He was at a loss what to do next. “Don’t worry! I’ll help you. Just be confident!” replied Lily. The following days, Marc worked very hard and made great progress. Gradually, his confidence grew and he could solve math problems with ease, with the instructions appearing in his brain as if the teacher was standing at his side . On the day of the exam, Marc went to school with great confidence. He met Huck in the classroom, who looked delighted as if he was bound to win. But Marc didn’t care. When the exam began, Marc answered all the questions as best as he could. Several days later, the result came out. It turned out that Marc did much better than Huck. “Well done,” said Mom. “We could go to see a movie to celebrate, and you can choose one.” “I think Lily should choose,” said Marc. “I would never have gained such a great achievement without her help and encouragement .” 3.词汇激活: 行为类: 选择:choose/make a choice/make an option 增加了信心:grow confidence/build up confidence/double confidence 解决:solve/work out/tackle 情绪类: 充满信心:be confident/be full of confidence 高兴的:delighted/pleased/cheerful/be overcome with delight 感到困惑:be at a loss/be confused/be confounded 【点睛】【高分句型1】 Explaining what had happened, especially the bet between him and Huck, he told Lily his decision.(运用了现在分词作状语。) 2】 He met Huck in the classroom, who looked delighted as if he was bound to win.(运用了who引导定语从句。) 1. B Sign language is the main way deaf people communicate. C Kyoto’s cherry blossoms — or sakura (樱花) — draw crowds from across the world. A The cherry trees will disappear completely. D Drone (无人机) light shows are becoming especially popular in the West. A They are too expensive. A. Reward. B. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On the day of the exam, Marc went to school with great confidence. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
