专题02 阅读理解(记叙文) 主题01 人与自我——个人经历 Passage 1 (24-25八年级上·江苏南通市通州区·期末) A father was very worried about his son, who, at 15 or 16 years old, seemed to show no signs of courage (勇气). In daily life, the boy would shy away from any challenges (挑战), whether it was trying a new sport at school or speaking up in clash. So, the father went to see a famous boxing (拳击) coach and asked him to help his son. The coach agreed and said, “ Leave your son with me. In three months, I promise he will be a changed person. However, you must not visit him during this time.” The father agreed. Three months later, the father returned to pick up his son as promised. The coach held a friendly match between the boy and an experienced boxer to show the training results. As soon as the match began, the boy was knocked down hard. But to everyone’s surprise, he quickly got up and faced his opponent (对手) again. He was knocked down again right away, but quickly jumped back to his feet. This happened again and again. The boy was knocked down 16 times, yet each time he stood up, decided to face the challenge. Sweat ran down his face and he held his fists tight, which showed he was really brave. The coach turned to the father and asked, “Do you think your son’s action shows courage? “ I’m so sad. I never thought that after sending him here for three months of training, he would still get knocked down so easily, “the father replied. The coach shook his head and said, “I really feel sorry for you. You’re missing the point. You only see the foils, the superficial (表面上的) winning or losing. Don’t you see the courage of your son to get up each time? That’s true strength. A strong person isn’t someone who never falls, but someone who rises every time they do. That’s true courage.” 1.Why did the father want his son to learn boxing? A.To train him to be braver. B.To make his body stronger. C.To make him learn to follow rules. It was my first and my last since I could never get to the country place often enough to keep my eye on it. Anyway, the second summer, the bugs found us and ate my arugula (芝麻菜). I could see the garden needed more care than I could give it, and I stopped. But the first season was pure heaven. I still remember sitting in that garden, the fresh air on my face, the silence pouring into my ears. Sometimes I would sing, quietly at first and then louder, which brought a small herd of curious cows trotting (小跑) my way to hang their huge heads over the wire fence 20 feet away, staring at me. Mostly I was sitting down, picking green beans, boiling them, slapping (拍) on a little butter and salt and eating them without anything else. And wanting to sing opera again because they were so good. I dug below the potato plants, stole a few baby potatoes from each plant, and boiled them too. Just butter and salt. So good. There was too much food in the late summer. My relatives refused to accept any because they had received a lot from others. The neighbours all grew the same thing I did, so they didn’t need any, and when I took it back to the city, no friends wanted it. They spent their summer weekends in the country and had their own gardens. I never had another garden after that first one. There was a time when I thought life was too short for all my dreams. The choices were too many, and my heart ached that anything had to end or that I had to choose between one thing and another. How could I live on a farm and also travel around the world? It seemed that life fully enjoyed could only be full of loss. Nevertheless, nothing was lost. These memories are a permanent (永恒的) part of me. I often relive that one wonderful summer and my amazing vegetable garden as I did while writing about it for you tonight. Little by little, the truth became okay with me: someone who loves many things can’t make all of them permanent. You have to walk away from one thing so you can have another. Still, I never expected total absence (缺乏) of sense of loss. And then I got it. That one summer with my fresh, delicious veggies, all that time to sit on the ground for hours and the unexpected company of cows that loved opera had filled a space in my life that had always been empty before that. But never has it been empty again. 1.Why did the author stop to plant a veggie garden? A.She couldn’t afford time or energy for the garden. B.She was tired of too much farm work. Soon, there was a terrible smell in the air and I thought something was wrong. I went out and saw fire coming out of my neighbour’s kitchen. So I shouted, “Fire! Fire!” But no one heard or came out. I ran quickly into my house to call 119, and then I rang my neighbour’s doorbell, knocked at the door, but there was no answer. I got into the house through the window and found my neighbour sleeping in his bedroom. I woke him up and we rushed out of the house together. We tried our best to pour water through the kitchen window, but the fire was too heavy. Luckily, the firemen came and put out the fire quickly. I fell on my knees and asked them not to punish (惩罚) the child any more. They seemed to understand. Just then I heard a noise behind me. It sounded like twelve machines running at the same time. The first part of our trip went well. But later there were some terrible storms (暴风雨). The winds were so strong that they sent our ship off course (航线). We didn’t know where we were. At last, when the storms stopped, we saw an island (岛). We had no more drinking water, so the captain (船长) sent me to find some fresh water on the island. I set off with some other men in a small boat. And when we got there, I travelled around the island by myself while the men looked for water. That was a big mistake. When I went back, there were no men and no boat! Then I saw them rowing back to our ship with a giant (巨人) following them in the sea! They were very afraid. I ran as fast as I could. I then climbed up a big hill and when I looked around, I saw fields. Then I saw other giants working in the fields. “On my last trip, I was a giant on an island of tiny (小的) people and now I am a tiny person on an island of giant!” It was not a nice feeling. Then, the most wonderful thing happened. Father Wolf stopped in the middle of his jump. He jumped before he saw what he was jumping at, and then he tried to stop himself. The result was that he jumped straight up into the air for four or five feet, and came down almost where he left the ground. “Man!” He said in surprise. “A man baby. Look!” In front of him, stood a baby with nothing on. He was small and soft. He looked up into Father Wolf’s face and laughed. “Is that a man cub (幼崽)?” asked Mother Wolf. “I have never seen one. In daily life, the boy would shy away from any challenges (挑战), whether it was trying a new sport at school or speaking up in clash. However, you must not visit him during this time.” The father agreed. Three months later, the father returned to pick up his son as promised. The coach held a friendly match between the boy and an experienced boxer to show the training results. As soon as the match began, the boy was knocked down hard. But never has it been empty again. 1.Why did the author stop to plant a veggie garden? A.She couldn’t afford time or energy for the garden. B.She was tired of too much farm work. Lynn and Mike turned the long rope into big, slow circles. The whole class hurried to get in line to wait for their turn to jump.”可知,当天是体育课跳绳的日子,Lynn和Mike摇长绳,全班学生都排队等着跳绳,再根据“Millie stood at the back of the line”可知,Millie站在队伍后面,由此可推知,她对于跳绳这件事是不开心的,划线词“frowned”意为“看起来不开心”。故选B。 2.细节理解题。根据文章第五段“She just didn’t know how to run in and start jumping with a long rope.”可知,Millie一开始的问题是不知道如何跑进长绳并开始跳绳。故选D。 3.推理判断题。根据文章第五段“The truth was that Millie had been jumping rope at home every day. With a short rope, she could jump 100 times without missing.”可知,事实上,Millie每天都在家跳绳,用短绳她可以连续跳100次,再根据第六段“Just then, Ms Miles, the gym teacher, brought out a bunch of short jump ropes.”以及“she gave each student a short rope”可知,体育老师拿出短绳给每个学生,由此可推知,Millie确信自己能跳得很好,所以她在体育课上第一次笑了。故选A。 4.推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“After a while, Millie realized that everyone was cheering, ‘Go. Millie, go!’”可知,过了一会儿,Millie意识到大家都在为她欢呼,再根据空后一句“The surprise almost made her miss a step, but she kept going.”可知,这个惊喜差点让她跳错一步,但她继续跳,由此可推知,此时只有Millie还在跳绳,D选项“Millie是唯一一个还在跳绳的人”符合语境。故选D。 主题02 人与社会——文学作品 Passage 1 (24-25八年级上·江苏宿迁市南师附中宿迁分校·期末) A few days after the Party, Jo saw Laurie again. On 20th June 1702, I set off for Surat, on a ship called the Adventure (冒险). And indeed “adventure” was really a proper name for that ship, and for everything that happened on the trip. I was so sad and hid behind a big tree. I had to think of a plan, but at that time one of the giants saw me. —From Gulliver’s Travels 1.After they saw an island, the captain asked Gulliver to ________. A.travel around the island B.make a new ship C.find some drinking water D.look for a giant 2.The underlined word “them” in the passage refers to “________”. A.some other men B.the giants C.the captain D.tiny people 3.What can we learn about Gulliver from the passage? A.This was the first trip in his life. B.He was a giant on this new island. C.He met storms on this trip. D.All giants liked him. 4.Which is the right order of what happened in the story? ①A giant followed our ship in the sea. ②The captain sent me to find some drinking water on the island. ③We met storms and didn’t know where we were. ④I climbed up a big hill and saw other giants working in the fields. A.③①②④ B.③②①④ C.②①④③ D.④①③② 【答案】1.C 2.A 3.C 4.B 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,节选自《格列佛游记》。文章主要叙述了主人公Gulliver在一次航行中遭遇暴风雨,船只偏离航线后流落到一个巨人岛上的冒险经历。 1.细节理解题。根据第三段“We had no more drinking water, so the captain sent me to find some fresh water on the island.”可知,看到岛后,因为没有饮用水了,船长派Gulliver去岛上找淡水。故选C。 2.词义猜测题。根据第三段“I set off with some other men in a small boat.” 以及第四段“When I went back, there were no men and no boat! Then I saw them rowing back to our ship...”可知,Gulliver和其他一些人一起乘船到岛上,他回来时发现人和船都不见了,然后看到他们划船回大船;所以,划线单词“them”指代的是和他一起去岛上的 “some other men”。故选A。 3.细节理解题。根据第二段“But later there were some terrible storms (暴风雨). The winds were so strong that they sent our ship off course.”可知,他在这次旅行中遇到了暴风雨。故选C。 4.细节理解题。根据第二段“But later there were some terrible storms... We didn’t know where we were.”可知,遭遇了暴风雨,他们不知道自己身在何处,所以③“我们遇到了暴风雨,不知道自己在哪里。”排在第一位;根据第三段“We had no more drinking water, so the captain sent me to find some fresh water on the island.”可知,没有饮用水了,所以船长派Gulliver去岛上找一些淡水,②“船长派我去岛上找饮用水。”排第二;根据“Then I saw them rowing back to our ship with a giant following them in the sea!”可知,然后Gulliver看见他们划回他们的船,一个巨人在海里跟在他们后面,①“一个巨人在海里追着我们的船。”排第三;再根据第四段“I then climbed up a big hill and when I looked around, I saw fields. Then I saw other giants working in the fields.”可知,然后Gulliver爬上一座大山,看到了其他巨人在地里干活,④“我爬上一座大山,看到其他巨人在田里干活。”排第四。所以,正确顺序是③②①④。故选B。 Passage 2 (24-25八年级上·江苏盐城市盐都区·期末) Dorothy lived in the Kansas Praries (堪萨斯大草原) with Uncle Henry, a farmer, and Aunt Em, Henry’s wife (妻子). They worked hard all day. In the small house, they dug a hole in the ground so they could hide in it if cyclones (龙卷风) happened. They had a dog called Toto and Dorothy always played with it. Today, however, they were not playing. Uncle Henry sat on the doorstep and looked worried. Dorothy stood in the door with Toto in her arms. Aunt Em was washing the dishes. They heard a low wail (呼啸) of the wind, and Uncle Henry and Dorothy could see the dark clouds coming to them and the storm was coming. Suddenly Uncle Henry stood up. “There’s a cyclone coming, Em,” he said. “I’ll go to look after my cows and horses.” Then he ran to the places for cows and horses. Aunt Em dropped her work and came to the door.“ Quick, Dorothy!” she shouted. “Run for the hole!” Toto jumped out of Dorothy’s arm and hid under the bed, and the girl started to get it. Aunt Em opened the door in the floor and climbed down into the small, dark hole. Dorothy caught Toto at last and started to follow her aunt. When she was halfway across the room, there came a strong wind. The house shook so hard that she lost her footing and fell down on the floor. Then a strange thing happened. The house whirled (旋转) around and rose slowly through the air. Dorothy felt she were going up in a balloon.”可知,多萝西没有跟上阿姨进入地板下的洞里,龙卷风带着房子旋转着,在空中慢慢升起,所以可推测多萝茜将被风带到一个新的地方。故选B。 Passage 3 (24-25八年级上·江苏无锡市锡山区·期末) There was a howl (嚎叫) from Shere Khan. “He missed,” said Mother Wolf. “What is it?” Father Wolf ran out and heard Shere Khan said to himself angrily as he fell into the bushes. “The fool is so silly that he jumped at a woodcutter’s fire, and he burned his feet,” said Father Wolf in a whisper. “Something is coming up the hill,” said Mother Wolf, putting up one of her ears. “Get ready.” The bushes rustled a little, and Father Wolf dropped his back legs under him, ready for his jump. Bring it here.” A wolf can hold an egg in his mouth without breaking it. Father Wolf picked the baby up with his mouth without hurting the baby as he put the baby down among the wolf cubs. “How little! How naked! How brave!” said Mother Wolf softly. The baby was moving between the cubs to get close to their warm skin. “Aha! He is having his meal with the others. And so this is a man cub. Now, was there ever a wolf that she could say she had a man cub among her children?” “In the past I heard of such a thing, but never in our team or in my time,” said Father Wolf. “He is without hair and I could kill him with a touch of my foot. But see, he looks up and he is not afraid.” — From Mowgli’s Brothers 1.How did the Father Wolf stand when he is ready for his jump? A. B. C. D. 2.What’s the correct order according to the story? a. Father Wolf jumped up.                 b. Shere Khan hurt his feet.      c. Father Wolf found a baby.              d. The baby was put among the Wolf cubs.         e. The baby had a meal with other wolf cubs. A.adecb B.badce C.adceb D.bacde 3.What did the Wolf mother mean by saying “Now, was there ever a wolf that she could say had a man cub among her children?” A.She would keep the man cub as her child. B.She would send the man cub to his home. C.She would kill the man cub to get food for her children D.She would give the man cub to Shere Khan to protect her children. 【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 【导语】本文节选自《莫格里的兄弟》,讲述了狼群发现人类幼崽的故事。 1.细节理解题。根据“The bushes rustled a little, and Father Wolf dropped his back legs under him, ready for his jump.”可知狼父蹲下后脚,准备跳跃,故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据第二段“Father Wolf ran out and heard Shere Khan said to himself angrily as he fell into the bushes.”可知一开始是Shere Khan掉入丛林伤了自己的脚,对应的是b,排除AC;根据第三段“and Father Wolf dropped his back legs under him, ready for his jump.”可知接下来是狼父准备跳跃,对应的是a;根据“Is that a man cub (幼崽)?”可知接下来是发现人类幼崽,对应的是c;根据倒数第三段“Father Wolf picked the baby up with his mouth without hurting the baby as he put the baby down among the wolf cubs.”可知幼崽被和狼宝宝放在一起,对应的是d。故选D。 3.推理判断题。根据“Now, was there ever a wolf that she could say she had a man cub among her children?”可知该句的意思是:现在,还有狼敢说她把人类幼崽放在自己的狼幼崽旁边吗?及下文“He is without hair and I could kill him with a touch of my foot. But see, he looks up and he is not afraid.”可知狼不会杀死这个人类幼崽,她会把它养着。故选A。 Passage 4 (24-25八年级上·江苏盐城市鹿鸣路初级中学·期末) Time passed. There was plenty of food and no work in the Southland, and White Fang lived fat and happy. Except for Collie, all things went well for him. He learned how to laugh, and how to play at fighting with his master without really biting him. When his master rode his horse, White Fang went with him. He never got tired, because he ran like a wolf. Once, when they were out riding, his master fell from his horse and broke his leg. “Home! Go home!” said his master, when he understood his injury (受伤). White Fang didn’t want to leave him. “Go home and tell them what happened to me.” White Fang knew the meaning of “home”, though not the rest of the message. But he went. He ran to Scott’s wife and pulled her dress, but it tore and she was afraid and angry. He stood before Scott’s father growling (嗥叫) until he told White Fang to lie down. He looked at all their faces. “I think he’s trying to speak,” said Scott’s daughter, Beth. And at that moment he started to bark—something he had never done before. “Something’s happened to Scott,” said his wife. They were all on their feet now, and White Fang ran out of the house. He looked back at them using his eyes to say: “Follow me”. After this everyone liked him even more. It was during White Fang’s second winter in the Santa Clara Valley that he had a strange finding. Why do I wish for anything, or do anything? Is there anything in my life that will not be destroyed by my death?” Like Leo Tolstoy, the famous Russian writer, many people ask these difficult questions. Tolstoy spent his whole life trying to answer these difficult questions. As a young man, he thought people could achieve perfection if they tried hard enough. So he worked very hard to be the best in everything. He thought that he would find meaning and truth in success (成功). In the 1850s, Tolstoy wrote his first stories. He wrote about his life in the army (军队). He also told stories about his childhood. These works were published (出版) and Tolstoy became a well-known writer. He got the respect he always wanted. Many rich and smart men met and talked with Tolstoy. Some of them were writers like him. They talked a lot about faith (信仰) and the meaning of life. But soon Tolstoy realized that these men were not perfect. Now he knew they could not answer his questions about faith. So in the 1860s, Tolstoy tried a different way to find the meaning of life. He opened a school for the children of his serfs—the people who worked on his land. These workers were very poor. He wanted to help them because he thought they were more honest than the rich people he knew. Tolstoy learned a lot from his workers. He understood how they worked hard to support their families. He began to believe that marriage and family would give his life meaning. So in 1862, Leo Tolstoy married a young woman named Sonya Behrs. The next 15 years were the best years of Tolstoy’s life. It was during this time that he wrote his most famous books—War and Peace and Anna Karenina. Many experts say that War and Peace is one of the greatest books ever written. In these books, Tolstoy believed humans should live a simple life and take care of their families. Tolstoy thought this would bring him happiness. Leo Tolstoy is still a very respected writer today.
