Take a look at the top-rated companies from our survey below to see which one offers the best value. Then shave a little extra off the price by using our practical booking strategies. Use price comparison tools Websites such as Expedia and Priceline make it easy to compare prices among companies. Some sites even have a dedicated AI tool that can quickly answer questions like “Help me find mid-sized rental cars in Boston from 12/18 to 12/24 with unlimited mileage.” You’ll have a list in seconds. Book directly with the rental company Booking through third-party travel sites can make it difficult to cancel or change your reservation. Plus, you may not even be getting the best price: Rental company websites and their apps often feature member promotions. You can also try discounts offered by AAA and USAA, which can be 20 to 30 percent off. Look for “manager’s special” deals Booking this lower-priced option means you agree to take whatever car is available when you get to the rental desk. You’ll typically know the size: In Hertz’s manager’s special, for example, you’re guaranteed to get a car with space for at least four people and two pieces of luggage, but you could also end up with an electric vehicle. Skip “pay now” deals Most companies offer a”pay later“ price and a discounted “pay now” price (from 5 to 35 percent less). But rental prices change frequently, and waiting can increase your chances of getting a better deal later. So it’s usually smarter to choose “pay later” and then enter your rental company and reservation number into AutoSlash’s or Kayak’s price tracking tools; they’ll scan the web for better deals and send you alerts. 1. Which company offers the best value according to the bar chart? A. Hertz. B. Alamo. C. Enterprise. D. National. 2. What can be guaranteed in “manager’s special” deals? A. Types of automobiles. B. Vehicle inner space. C. Car driving distance. D. Post-sales service. 3. Why is it wiser for customers to choose “pay later”? A. To get a lower price. B. To book a newer car. C. To enjoy fine service. D. To receive a free gift. B When Hurricane Helene moved fast toward Florida’s west coast on Sept. 26, 2024, authorities ordered the small community of Indian Rocks Beach to move to a safer place. But with the storm forecast to miss them by more than 100 miles, many local people, including surf instructor Marty Thomas, 52, stayed put. Then, just before nightfall, another massive storm made a hole in the town’s seawalls, dumping water into the streets. Thomas watched it grow from nothing to ankle high in minutes. He rushed to warn his neighbors in the single-story, six-unit complex where he lived. Thomas knocked on the door of an elderly neighbor who was battling cancer, then helped him out of his bed and into his jeep. Thomas also woke two remaining neighbors, who quickly piled into their own jeep along with their pets. Moments later, they sped off, with water nearly to their headlights. Then Thomas noticed that rising water began spilling through the windows of his home. He picked out a strong 12-foot paddle board (冲浪救生板), stood up on the board and paddled through dark, flooded streets to the house, where 56-year old science teacher Anderson was stuck with her dog. Thomas tried the door, but the great weight of the water made it impossible to open. “Go to the window on the side!” he shouted. Anderson walked back to her bedroom and opened the window. Thomas climbed inside and helped Anderson and her dog out of the house. With the dog on the nose of the board and Anderson hanging on to the side, Thomas swam them across the street to a townhouse, where Anderson climbed to safety. That night he had rescued 10 residents of the town where he’d grown up. People called him the angel of Indian Rocks Beach. “He put himself in danger to save our lives,” Anderson said. Thomas said, “It was a little hairy, but I was able to surf in big waves. Anyway, they were my neighbors.” 4. Which disaster hit the community just before nightfall? A. Mudslide. B. Earthquake. C. Wildfire. D. Rainstorm. 5. How did Thomas go to Anderson’s house? A. By driving his own jeep. B. By riding a paddle board. C. By walking into the street. D. By running at high speed. 6. What did Thomas do to rescue Anderson? A. Forced the front door open. B. Broke the window and climbed in. C. Swam her across to the safety. D. Put her onto the board and floated. 7. What does the underlined word “hairy” mean in paragraph 4? A. Dangerous. B. Eventful. C. Furry. D. Interesting. C For most of the history of scientific study of language, scholars have tended to focus on written language, in large part because that’s what they had records of. But once recordings of conversation became available, they could begin to study spoken language the same way as writing. When they did, they found that interjections—that is, short sounds of just a word or two such as um, huh? and mm-hmm, which are not part of a larger sentence—were very common in everyday speech. “One in every seven spoken words is one of these things,” says Dingemanse, who explores the use of interjections. “You’re going to find one of those little guys flying by every 12 seconds. Clearly, we need them,” he adds. That need seems to be universal. In a survey of 31 languages around the world, Dingemanse finds that all of them use a short pronunciation similar to huh? as a repair signal, probably because it’s quick to produce. “In that moment of difficulty, you’re going to need the simplest possible question word, and that’s what huh? is,” he says. Other interjections work as “continuers” such as mm-hmm, made from the listeners to show that they’re paying attention and the speaker should keep going. Once again, the form of the word is well suited to its function. Because mm-hmm is made with a closed mouth, it’s clear that the speaker does not want to speak. Continuers really matter to a conversation. In one experiment, 34 students were listening as another volunteer told them a story. Some of the listeners gave the usual “I’m listening” signals, while others who had been asked to count the number of words beginning with the letter “t”, were too distracted to do so. The lack of normal signals from the listeners led to the stories that were poorly told by the speaker. That shows that these little words are quite important and they really do a lot for understanding and conversation. 8. Which of the following is an interjection? A. Yes. B. Sorry. C. Um. D. Okay. 9. What may the interjection “huh?” indicate? A. Curiosity. B. Question. C. Disappointment. D. Attention. 10. What do “continuers” remind the speaker to do? A. Express the ideas. B. Repair the mistakes. C. Change the topic. D. Keep telling stories. 11. What is the text mainly about? A. Roles of interjections. B. Uses of words. C. Functions of sounds. D. Signals of talks. D Dozens of cities across the globe have recently experienced water shortages. In the next five years, the world’s demand for fresh water will be greater than supply, according to a United Nations forecast. Now researchers are turning to an unexpected source for a solution: the bottom of the ocean. Called undersea desalination (脱盐), the idea is to remove the salt from water in the deep sea. If it worked on a large scale, the technology could make the world’s water problems less serious. Costs and energy requirements have kept desalination from going mainstream in most of the world. Early desalination involved both boiling seawater and making it into the steam, a method that used lots of energy. This method was later replaced by multistage flash distillation (蒸馏), in which temperature and pressure “flash” salt water into steam. In the past 25 years, reverse osmosis (反渗透) has become more common. This process uses high water pressure to push seawater through a filter film (过滤膜) with holes so small that only water passes through, leaving salt behind. Reverse osmosis is more efficient than distillation, but it takes a lot of energy to force millions of gallons of seawater to go through filter films. What if we could let that movement happen naturally by making use of the pressure hundreds of meters underwater? That’s the idea behind undersea desalination. Reverse osmosis devices are put under water to depths of around 500 meters (1,600 feet), where great pressure does the hard work of separating water from salt. Fresh water without salt is then pumped back to shore. Given the depths required, undersea desalination won’t work in just any seaside location. Many coastal cities lie on wide continental shelves, meaning deep water is far offshore. Coastlines with steep drop-offs are ideal because shallow shelves will require long pipelines, adding to capital and operational costs. It’s predicted that undersea desalination will go mainstream and supply water to some coastal cities in the near future. 12. Why do researchers turn to the sea for fresh water? A. To meet the increasing need. B. To explore new water source. C. To support far-offshore cities. D. To keep up with development. 13. How is salt removed in undersea desalination? A. By separating water from salt in chemical ways. B. By making seawater into steam and then cool it. C. By using water pressure to filter salt naturally. D. By pumping seawater to water treatment plants. 14. What does the author think about the new technology? A. Challenging. B. Promising. C. Inefficient. D. Impractical. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Go Beyond. B. Pump Up. C. Reach Far. D. Drink Deep. How to Stick to a Workout Plan Senior year is filled with tight schedules. It’s easy to push exercise aside, thinking “no time” or “too exhausted”. ____16____ Here are practical ways to help you fit exercise into a busy senior year. First, make a flexible workout plan instead of a strict one. A fixed 1-hour gym session may feel impossible, but a 10-minute walk after breakfast or 5-minute stretching during study breaks works. Write down your plan in a notebook, but leave room for changes. If you have extra homework one day, shorten your workout to 3 minutes instead of skipping it. This flexibility keeps you from giving up when schedules change. ____17____ Use study-workout links to fit exercise into your day. Tie small workouts to your study routine: do 15 squats (蹲坐) after finishing a math worksheet, or walk around your room while memorizing English words. ____18____ These short activities don’t take away study time; instead, they wake up your brain and make you more productive when you get back to books. ____19____ Pick a classmate who also wants to keep exercising, and agree to check in with each other every night. For example, you can send a quick message: “I did 20 jumping jacks today. Did you move your body?” This mutual check pushes you to keep your promise. Knowing someone is counting on you makes it harder to skip a day, even when you’re tired. Finally, give yourself small rewards for sticking to your plan. After a week of constant workouts, treat yourself to something you love, such as a favorite snack, 15 minutes of watching a show or a new pen for taking notes. ____20____ These little prizes turn exercise from a “chore“ into a “treat“, keeping you motivated in the long run. A. Find a workout friend for mutual checks. B. These links turn exercise into a natural part of study life, not extra. C. These links work best when you spend 30 minutes on each activity. D. Short daily workouts need to follow a strict timetable to stay effective. E. These small rewards make your effort worthwhile, keeping you on track. F. But regular exercise keeps you healthy, boosts class focus and relieves exam stress. G. It also keeps you from feeling guilty when life gets busy, so you’re more likely to keep going. 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 A few summers ago, my family moved into a new apartment. Through the window blinds, sunlight cast thin striped shadows on the school list, with Rolf School topping the “fame” ranking. For years, she’d dreamed of Otto, her eleven-year-old son, going there. But her eyes kept drifting to another school’s name, Caulfield School, written in Otto’s messy handwriting with a tiny star: his favorite school. Otto had talked about Caulfield School for weeks: the outdoor pool to swim in after class, French lessons that weren’t just textbooks, and the history club’s fun ancient history role-plays. Most of all, he’d talked excitedly about the robotics program, holding a crumpled cardboard robot he’d made: “Mom, they let students build from the very beginning. Real motors, real wires! I could join the city robot contest!” Mom stirred her tea slowly, the spoon tapping the mug. She recalled her teenage years when she couldn’t go to her dream art school. Her mother told her that it wasn’t practical, and she persuaded her into giving up the idea. Now, her heart ached. She also thought of Otto’s teacher’s note last week: “He’s brilliant with his hands. Let him create, not just memorize.” She remembered last weekend, when Otto was spreading Caulfield School’s poster on the floor, tracing role-play photos, eyes shining like he was already there. She decided to give Otto the power to shape his own future. In the meantime, she would try to gradually loosen her control over Otto and give him a bit more independence. Because if there was one thing she could be absolutely certain of, it’s this: Otto would do best at the school he wanted to go. That night, Otto approached his mom, holding a DIY robot toy in his hand. “Mom, you’ll like this — not all their homework is on a screen,” he said quietly. Mom met his wide hopeful eyes. “I just want what’s best for you,” she said, though the “best” didn’t mean the same for her and Otto. Otto stepped closer, small hands wrapping her arm. “Caulfield School is best for me. I can make robots, learn history by acting and swim there. Please, Mom.” 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Mom fixed her eyes on Otto for a moment. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A month later, Mom attended Otto’s first school activity for parents at Caulfield School. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2026届高三年级第二次学情调研测试 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? During the activity, we students will share some details of Chinese festivals, like how we prepare Zongzi for the Dragon Boat Festival. After that, there will be an interactive Q&A session. We hope you can comment on our sharing content and introduce some western festivals and their traditions. Your unique insights will enrich the event. We sincerely look forward to your participation. Yours, Li Hua 第二节 (满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】 Paragraph 1: Mom fixed her eyes on Otto for a moment. She pulled Otto into a tight hug, his robot toy pressing gently between them. The next morning, she filled out Caulfield School’s application, mailed it right away, and then set the school ranking list aside. That week, she watched Otto sit at his desk after school, drawing robot designs and reading history books with great interest. Sometimes he would pause and say, “Mom, wait till you see the ancient history role-play I’m in!” His bright, genuine smile made her realize she’d finally made the right choice for him. Paragraph 2: A month later, Mom attended Otto’s first school activity for parents at Caulfield School. She stood in the school yard, watching Otto dressed in an ancient-style costume for the history club’s role-play. He was grinning as he acted out a scene from old times. Later, he proudly showed her his robot project, parts of which were made in the school’s robotics lab. “We’re entering a competition soon“ he said, his eyes full of excitement. On their way home, Otto talked excitedly about his French lesson and how he’d swum in the outdoor pool that afternoon. Mom smiled to herself, “This is the best future I could have ever wished for my son.” 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
