Being polite is not just a good habit; it’s a key to making communication smoother (顺利的) and more pleasant. English has special ways to show respect, especially when we ask for help or permission (许可). When we ask someone to do something, how we ask makes a big difference. Instead of a direct command (命令) like “Sweep the floor”, a polite request (请求) is better. Using “Could you please ...?” works well. For example, “Could you please help me with this heavy box?” is a good request. “Could” sounds softer than “can”, which shows more respect. Adding “please” makes it even friendlier. When we want permission, the words we choose are also important. “Can I...?” is common with friends, but “Could I...?” is more polite, especially with adults (成年人) like teachers. Asking a friend, “Can I borrow your book?” is fine. But asking a teacher, “Could I ask a question?” shows respect for their position (职位). Politeness is also two-way. When you cannot help someone, just saying “No” can sound rude (粗鲁的). It’s better to give a short reason. For example, you could say, “I’m sorry, but I have to finish my homework first.” This shows you respect their request, even if you can’t agree. Using these polite phrases is an easy way to build better relationships. Small words can make home and school a happier place for everyone. 1.Which is the politest way to ask for help according to the text? A.Tell me the way. B.Can you help me? C.Where is the library? D.Could you please help me? 2.What does “Politeness is also two-way” mean in the text? A.Both people should be polite. B.There are two ways to be polite. C.You should say polite words twice. D.You should only be polite to adults. 3.How does the writer mainly explain his points (观点)? A.By telling stories. B.By using numbers. C.By giving examples. D.By making comparisons (比较). 4.What is the best title for this text? A.Can or Could B.Giving Good Reasons C.How to Make a Request D.The Importance of Being Polite 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.C 4.D 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了礼貌在沟通中的重要性,以及如何在英语中使用礼貌用语来请求帮助或征求许可,从而使交流更顺畅、人际关系更和谐。 1. 根据“Using ‘Could you please ...?’ works well. For example, ‘Could you please help me with this heavy box?’ is a good request.”可知,使用“Could you please...?” 根据“When you cannot help someone, just saying ‘No’ can sound rude (粗鲁的). It’s better to give a short reason.... This shows you respect their request, even if you can’t agree.” 故选A。 3. 根据“When we ask someone to do something, how we ask makes a big difference. Instead of a direct command (命令) like ‘Sweep the floor’, a polite request (请求) is better. Using ‘Could you please ...?’ works well. For example, ‘Could you please help me with this heavy box?’ is a good request.” 通读全文并根据“English has special ways to show respect, especially when we ask for help or permission (许可).” D。 We spend most of our time with friends we like. Well, what kind of people are popular with others? By being with some people just once, you start to like them. The two companies are now working together to build the flying taxis. They also need to work out what traffic rules the taxis will need to follow, and what kind of training flying taxi pilots will need. The five-seat, all-electric taxis will be able to take off and land freely. They will fly about 300 kilometres an hour, ③Joby’s CEO said the taxis would be good for the environment. He told reporters, “Joby helps people save time while cutting down their carbon footprint (碳排放量). Japan offers us a good chance to do that, with 92% of the population living in cities, and Tokyo being one of the top 20 busiest cities in the world.” The president of ANA was also excited about the project. He said, “ANA has 70 years of experience. It is able to offer people a chance to travel quickly from an international airport to the centre of a city.” The two companies successfully tested a flying taxi for the first time in 2020. ④So, the flying taxis are closer to our life. It makes us feel happy and helps us know about plants and animals. For most scientists, however, nature gives out something more—the ideas to improve people’s life. They study bees to work out how small robots might “talk” to report the weather. They look at geckos’ (壁虎的) feet to find how to make tape. They study fruit flies to help doctors save people’s lives. “There are so many fun ways that animals develop to solve problems, and some of them are ones we never think of,” says Lisa Manning, a professor of the bioinspired (生物启发的) center. Zhenyu Gan is a robot engineer in the center. He makes robots with four legs or more, instead of robots with wheels. To find out how legged robots could stand or walk, Gan looks to animals such as horses and mice. “The first thing we have to understand is how they move.” Gan says. “Usually, robots with two legs like people are clumsy. Just think about how a baby learns to stand and walk. But my robots have four legs or more, just like horses, making the robots walk or run easily and fast.” says Gan. Gan’s robots have lots of uses. They can explore the moon. Hospitals use doglike robots to work with doctors. Police use legged robots to search fallen buildings for missing people. 1.According to the passage, when going out in nature, a group of scientists may ________. A.build houses to protect animals B.enjoy the beautiful view around C.play games with animals D.study how birds can fly to invent planes 2.Gan may invent the following robots except ________. D.To find out different reasons to look at nature. 根据“For most scientists, however, nature gives out something more—the ideas to improve people’s life. They study bees to work out…to help doctors save people’s lives.” 根据“Zhenyu Gan…He makes robots with four legs or more, instead of robots with wheels.” C。 ①The soldiers stepped in perfect lines during the military parade (阅兵) on Sept. 3. Did you enjoy watching them? Maybe everyone would say “yes”, as uniformity (整齐划一) makes us feel so good. ②The reason is that our brains (大脑) love orderly things, according to China Communication. This has to do with something called “processing fluency (加工流畅性)”. It helps our brains do things easily, such as remembering and deciding. Usually, symmetry (对称), clear shapes and sharp contrast (对比) can help improve processing fluency. ③But why does our brain like this fluency? Scientists have different ideas. Some say it’s because our brain doesn’t have to work hard to understand. This helps us make quick choices without thinking too hard. ④Another idea is that our brains learned this from evolution (进化). When things are easy to get, it might mean we’re safe. But if things get tricky, our brain thinks danger, said Psychology Today. The neocortex (新皮质), a part of our brain, plays a big part in learning. It has 300 million brain cells that look for patterns (模式) to help us learn. ⑤Processing fluency can be helpful for marketing For example, Apple often uses this idea to make its ads simple and clear. This way, people can understand and remember their products (产品) very easily. ⑥Not only in marketing, but processing fluency also makes a difference to our daily life. For example, if a painting has a balanced design, matching colors, and clear pictures, it can catch people’s eyes more easily and make us feel happy. 1.How does the writer start the passage? A.By listing numbers. B.By giving an example. C.By comparing different feelings. D.By explaining a scientific idea. 2.Which is the easiest picture for our brain to process? A. B. C. D. 3.According to Paragraph 4, why does uniformity make people feel good? A.Because it helps the neocortex work better. B.Because it excites most of our brain cells. C.Because it is helpful for the evolution of the brain. D.Because it tells the brain that everything is okay. 4.If we put the passage into three parts, which of the following is the best? 根据“①The soldiers stepped in perfect lines during the military parade on Sept 3.” 根据“Usually, symmetry, clear shapes and sharp contrast can help improve processing fluency.” 根据第④段“When things are easy to get, it might mean we’re safe. But if things get tricky, our brain thinks danger”可知,整齐划一的事物让大脑觉得容易理解,意味着安全,即“一切都好”,故选D。 4. A。 What if you had a friendly health helper in your pocket? This is the idea behind new AI apps. They work like a health coach you can always talk to. What can they do? Much more than just count your steps (计步). First, they can listen to your voice. If you feel sad or worried, the app might hear it. Have a strange mark on your skin? The app can use your camera to see it and tell you if a doctor should look at it. It is like a friend who never forgets. For example, if you often feel tired after school, it might say, “Try going to sleep one hour earlier.” But is it safe to tell the app so much? The app companies say yes. They say keeping your information secret (保密) is their most important job. Remember, this AI is not here to take the place of your real doctor. It is here to help you understand your own body better. One day, talking to your phone about health could be common for everyone. 1.How does the writer start the passage? This shows respect for our teachers and classmates, and also gives everyone a chance to share their ideas. We shouldn’t run in the classrooms or hallways because it could be dangerous. In our family, there are rules too. We should do our homework before watching TV. This helps us be responsible (有责任心的) for our study. We also need to help our parents do some housework like washing our clothes or tidying up our rooms. Hazel Rymer frequently has to struggle through rainforests, climb to the top of mountains, then climb 200 metres into the crater of active volcanoes. But the 38-year-old volcanologist does her best to make it sound less alarming than it is. “Driving to work is more risky,” she insists. “And the deepest I go into the crater of a volcano is about 300 metres,” she adds, trying to make it all sound as ordinary as taking the dog for a walk. Hazel has been studying volcanoes for a long time, so it’s not surprising she is used to the danger. Her interest in volcanoes began at school. A teacher gave her a book about Pompeii. “I remember reading about the eruption of Vesuvius and the destruction of the city,” she explains. “The thought of all those people just frozen in time had quite an effect on me and I am still excited by their dangerous beauty today.” Nowadays, volcanoes are getting more and more unpredictable. There have been many changes in sea level caused by global warming and melting ice caps. These have resulted in some dormant volcanoes erupting, so studying them is more dangerous than ever before. Hazel says that although she doesn’t take any unnecessary risk, she has had some frightening moments. Her worst experience was on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, when she was slowly surrounded by lava. “I had a choice of walking ten hours to get around the lava flow or just walking across it,” she explains. She chose to pick a path across the cooler rocks in the lava stream. “I guess it was five metres. The flow was 1,000℃, so if you hesitated your boots would begin to melt. It was scary, but it really was a practical decision-there wasn’t time to do anything else.” And what about the future? “I haven’t been to the volcanoes in Indonesia yet. And I would love to spend some time working in the Antarctic,” she says. “I would also like to know why quiet lava flows erupt from some volcanoes and why other volcanoes go bang.” In other words, Hazel Rymer won’t be exchanging her volcanoes for the relative safety of driving to work just yet. 1.Hazel’s claim that “driving to work is more risky” than exploring volcanoes shows that ________. A.people have exaggerated the dangers of volcanoes in the past B.Hazel does not really understand the dangerous situations she puts herself in C.there are many bad drivers in the place where Hazel lives D.Hazel is being modest and understating the dangers she faces 2.When did Hazel first become interested in volcanoes? A.When she was visiting Italy. B.When she was at school. C.When she was twenty. D.When she saw Vesuvius. 3.When Hazel was on Mount Etna, she had to ________. A.take a dangerous path B.take an unnecessary risk C.leave her boots behind D.walk for ten hours around the mountain 4.In the future, Hazel wants to ________. A.drive to work B.go on holiday to the Antarctic C.find a less dangerous job D.keep discovering new things about volcanoes 【答案】1.D 2.B 3.A 4.D 【导语】本文介绍了一位研究火山的专家。 1. 根据“Driving to work is more risky”以及“she adds, trying to make it all sound as ordinary as taking the dog for a walk.” 根据“Her interest in volcanoes began at school”可知,Hazel对火山的兴趣始于学校时期。故选B。 3. 根据“Her worst experience was on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, when she was slowly surrounded by lava.”以及“She chose to pick a path across the cooler rocks in the lava stream.” 故选A。 4. 根据“I haven’t been to the volcanoes in Indonesia yet.”以及“I would also like to know why quiet lava flows erupt from some volcanoes and why other volcanoes go bang.” 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 期末复习之阅读理解12篇 (Units1-6单元话题) 单元 单元话题 Unit 1 This is me 个人信息 Unit 2 Getting along 与人相处 Unit 3 Make it happen! Unit 5 Play by the rules 规则与制度 Unit 6 When disaster strikes 自然灾害 本资料共12篇专题训练,从上到下每单元依次对应2篇单元话题专题训练 S, M, P and C stand for different people who have different personalities. A.Can or Could B.Giving Good Reasons C.How to Make a Request D.The Importance of Being Polite We spend most of our time with friends we like. Well, what kind of people are popular with others? By being with some people just once, you start to like them. If you wonder why they attract (吸引) people and want to be a person like them, you should learn how to have the traits (特点) that they have. Firstly, everybody wants to be happy, and nobody wants to spend their time with an unhappy person. Well, you see, there is what you call mood linkage. If you are with a happy person, you are more likely to be happy, too. So if you are a happy person, many people will want to spend their time with you. Next, everybody needs encouragement (鼓励), because sometimes in our lives we meet failure, sadness, problems and other bad things. So if you always choose to cheer others up with encouraging words or actions, they would like to spend time with you. Lastly, you are not a friend if you don’t give a hand to your friends when they need help. You should always be helpful to them, because when you need help, they will be there for you, too. It feels good if people want to be your friends because of your character. So if you want to attract people, you should learn to have these traits. 1.What can be an example of “mood linkage”, according to the passage? A.You would like to help when someone is in need. B.You will be happy when someone loses his or her games. C.You will be happy when you are with happy people. D.You will laugh loudly when you hear funny stories. 2.What does the underlined word “them” in Paragraph 4 refer to? A.People who need help. B.People who would like to give a hand to others. C.People who are good at encouraging others. D.People who want to spend time with you. 3.What trait can help one to attract others according to the passage? A.Being helpful. B.Being careful. C.Being strict. D.Being beautiful. 4.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? A.①/②③④/⑤ B.①②③④/⑤ C.①/②③④⑤ D.①②/③/④⑤ 5.What would be the best title for the passage? A.Ways to live a happy life B.Tips for making friends C.Traits needed to attract people D.Words for cheering others up ①A new kind of transport will be with us in the next few years—flying taxis. Many of us grew up watching sci-fi movies with flying taxis. They are now becoming a science fact. ②The Japanese airline ANA teamed up with a US tech start-up called Joby Aviation. People’s dream of taking a flying taxi will come true. 1.The meaning of the underlined phrase “teamed up” is close to ________. A.paired up B.made up C.came up D.put up 2.To start producing flying taxis, the two companies need to________. ①build the flying taxis ②work out traffic rules the taxis will follow ③decide how many seats will be offered in the taxis ④decide what kind of training flying taxi pilots will need A.①②③. D.It is known for its low-cost flights. 4.What’s the structure of the passage? A. B. C. D. There are a lot of reasons to go out in nature to look around. A.B.C.D. 3.What is the purpose of writing this passage? A.To introduce changes of bioinspired ideas. B.To tell us it’s hard to study animals. C.To show us how animal ways help in our lives. D.To find out different reasons to look at nature. ①The soldiers stepped in perfect lines during the military parade (阅兵) on Sept. A.①;②③④;⑤⑥ B.①;②③;④⑤⑥ C.①②;③;④⑤⑥ D.①②;③④⑤;⑥ What if you had a friendly health helper in your pocket? This is the idea behind new AI apps. They work like a health coach you can always talk to. What can they do? Much more than just count your steps (计步). First, they can listen to your voice. If you feel sad or worried, the app might hear it. Have a strange mark on your skin? The app can use your camera to see it and tell you if a doctor should look at it. You can tell the app your wish, like “I want to sleep better.” It will then make an easy plan just for you. The AI learns about your life. It sees what you eat and when you go to bed. A.By explaining how AI works. B.By telling a story about a doctor. A.A friend who never forgets B.Your New AI Health Friend C.Why Real Doctors Are Important D.Keep your information secret What do you think of the rules? Sometimes we may think some rules in our lives are awful. These rules just seem (似乎) to stop us from having fun. But in fact, those rules are very important and they help us a lot. At school, there are rules to help us study well and stay safe. We have to arrive at school on time. This helps us start our study well. In class, we need to raise our hands before speaking. It makes us feel like we are an important part of our family and teaches us about cooperation (合作) and the meaning of hard work. Rules are really important. Studying volcanoes is a demanding profession. A.drive to work B.go on holiday to the Antarctic C.find a less dangerous job D.keep discovering new things about volcanoes
