But where are we doing all of this waiting, and what does it mean to an impatient society like ours? To understand the issue, let's take a look at three types of "waits". The very worst form of waiting is the Watched-Pot Wait. It is without doubt the most annoying of all. Take filling up the kitchen sink (洗碗池) as an example. There is absolutely nothing you can do while this is going on but keep both eyes fixed on the sink until it's full. During these waits, the brain slips away from the body and wanders about until the water runs over the edge of the counter and onto your socks. This kind of wait makes the waiter helpless and mindless. A cousin to the Watched-Pot Wait is the Forced Wait. This one requires a bit of discipline. Properly preparing packaged noodle soup requires a Forced Wait. Directions are very specific. "Bring three cups of water to boil, add mix, simmer (炖) three minutes, remove from heat, let stand five minutes." I have my doubts that anyone has actually followed the procedures strictly. After all, Forced Waiting requires patience. Perhaps the most powerful type of waiting is the Lucky-Break Wait. This type of wait is unusual in that it is for the most part voluntary. Unlike the Forced Wait, which is also voluntary, waiting for your lucky break does not necessarily mean that it will happen. Turning one's life into a waiting game requires faith and hope, and is strictly for the optimists among us. On the surface it seems as ridiculous as following the directions on soup mixes, but the Lucky-Break Wait well serves those who are willing to do it. As long as one doesn't come to rely on it, wishing for a few good things to happen never hurts anybody. We certainly do spend a good deal of our time waiting. The next time you're standing at the sink waiting for it to fill while cooking noodle soup that you'll have to eat until a large bag of cash falls out of the sky, don't be desperate. You're probably just as busy as the next guy. 11. While doing a Watched-Pot Wait, we tend to______. A. keep ourselves busy B. get absent-minded C. grow anxious D. stay focused 12. What is the difference between the Forced Wait and the Watched-Pot Wait? A. The Forced Wait requires some self-control. B. The Forced Wait makes people passive. C. The Watched-Pot Wait needs directions. D. The Watched-Pot Wait engages body and brain. 13. What can we learn about the Lucky-Break Wait? A. It is less voluntary than the Forced Wait. B. It doesn't always bring the desired result. C. It is more fruitful than the Forced Wait. D. It doesn't give people faith and hope. 14. What does the author advise us to do the next time we are waiting? A. Take it seriously. B. Don't rely on others. C. Do something else. D. Don't lose heart. 15. The author supports his view by______. A. exploring various causes of "waits" B. describing detailed processes of "waits" C. analyzing different categories of "waits" D. revealing frustrating consequences of "waits" 三、完形填空(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分) 阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Julie was sitting in bed late at night playing with her new smart phone. What does the author advise us to do the next time we are waiting? A. Take it seriously. B. Don't rely on others. C. Do something else. D. Don't lose heart. 15. The author supports his view by______. A. exploring various causes of "waits" B. describing detailed processes of "waits" C. analyzing different categories of "waits" D. revealing frustrating consequences of "waits" 【答案】11.B 12.A 13.B 14.D 15.C 【导语】这是一篇议论文。 A. 根据第二段中 “During these waits, the brain slips away from the body and wanders about until the water runs over the edge of the counter and onto your socks. 根据第二段对 “看着锅等” 的描述,这种等待让人无助且无意识;第三段提到 “This one requires a bit of discipline. 故选 A。 13. 根据第四段中 “waiting for your lucky break does not necessarily mean that it will happen. A 项与原文 “this type of wait is unusual in that it is for the most part voluntary. Unlike the Forced Wait, which is also voluntary” 矛盾;C 项文中未对比两者的成效;D 项与第五段 “Turning one's life into a waiting game requires faith and hope” 不符,故选 B。 14. 根据最后一段中 “The next time you're standing at the sink waiting for it to fill while cooking noodle soup that you'll have to eat until a large bag of cash falls out of the sky, don't be desperate. “don't be desperate” 与 “don't lose heart” 同义,故选 D。 15. A. Julie was sitting in bed late at night playing with her new smart phone. Thank you! AI in Our Life Dear teachers and fellow students, As we all know, AI changes our lives greatly. With the development of science and technology, we can see all kinds of AI products in our daily life. For example, smartphones can make work and study more efficient, while cleaning robots can help with housework. They all bring great convenience and progress to our society. However, with AI technology being widely used, many workers lost their jobs. Also, some students rely too much on AI so that they lose their ability to do things by themselves. All in all, just as every coin has its two sides, AI products have both advantages and disadvantages. I believe that if we use AI correctly, it will bring us more convenience in the future. That's all. Thank you! 【详解】 词汇积累 高效的:efficient→ productive 便利:convenience→ comfort 依赖:rely on→ depend on 正确地:correctly→ properly 句式优化 用 “For example” 引出具体实例,让 AI 的好处更直观;以 “However” 转折衔接弊端,逻辑过渡自然;用 “just as every coin has its two sides” 的谚语总结利弊,增强表达生动性。 1】 For example, smartphones can make work and study more efficient, while cleaning robots can help with housework.(用 “while” 对比两种 AI 产品的作用,使举例更有层次) 【高分句型 2】 I believe that if we use AI correctly, it will bring us more convenience in the future.(运用 “that” 引导的宾语从句嵌套条件状语从句,清晰表达对合理使用 AI 的展望) 试卷第6页,共6页 原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究!
