Passage 1
Don’t Rush Through Books
I love books. I love reading. I do it as much as I can. I tell people they should do the same. But when I hear that people are using apps to try to read more in less time, I just shake my head. Guys, you’re doing it wrong! Reading is like eating, dating, and travelling. The whole point is that it’s pleasurable and meaningful. 1
Unfortunately, reading always falls victim to seeking productivity shortcuts. People may rush through books over dinner table to save ten minutes but willingly fly across the country for a three-day conference where nothing gets accomplished. Actually, such an act tends to be penny wise and pound foolish. 2 Simply put: You don’t need to squeeze reading into the in-between moments of your life; you need to squeeze out the non-essentials and make reading, and reading well, the priority.
Once on a flight, I was surrounded by businessmen — the type of people who would say things like “I’m too busy to read”. And what were they doing on this flight? Watching videos, texting, or chatting. I was the only one reading. In two and a half hours, I got all the way through the book. But it wasn’t finishing a book that mattered. 3 The book was about a man’s attempt to retract Coronado’s expedition on horseback. I was transported from that plane to the desert. I was fully engaged.
We have to remember: we don’t get a prize at the end of life for having rushed through as many books as possible. Remember: quality over quantity. Always, 4 The time you spend reading them, the time you carved out and gave to the process — that’s what you’ll remember at the end of your life. That is the prize.
5 They don’t fit it in between other tasks they make it the priority. And from that, everything follows: the more you read, the better you get, and the more you want to read. They don’t rush. They savor. And so should you.
A.It was those quiet, reflective hours.
B.You’re not supposed to rush through it.
C.Never miss the chance to win the prize.
D.It doesn’t matter how much you end up reading.
E.All great readers share one rule: they value reading.
F.When I am reading, I feel like someone else understands me.
G.What really needs changing is not reading speed but daily priorities.
【答案】1.B 2.G 3.A 4.D 5.E
1.上文“Reading is like eating, dating, and travelling. The whole point is that it’s pleasurable and meaningful. (阅读就像吃饭、约会和旅行。关键在于其带来的愉悦与意义。)”强调阅读应被享受,B项“You’re not supposed to rush through it. (你不该匆匆读完它。)”直接回应“速读”错误,也与本段作者“摇头”态度一致,故选B。
2.上文“People may rush through books over dinner table to save ten minutes but willingly fly across the country for a three-day conference where nothing gets accomplished. (人们可能为了省十分钟而在饭桌上匆匆读书,却愿意飞越全国参加一个毫无成果的三天会议。)”批判本末倒置,G项“What really needs changing is not reading speed but daily priorities. (真正需要改变的不是阅读速度,而是日常优先级。)”指出症结在于“优先级”错位,承上启下,故选G。
3.上文“But it wasn’t finishing a book that mattered. (但重要的并不是读完一本书。)”指出读书不要贪快,A项“It was those quiet, reflective hours. (正是那些安静、沉思的时光。)”突出“过程”价值,故选A。
4.上文“we don’t get a prize at the end of life for having rushed through as many books as possible. Remember: quality over quantity. (我们不会在生命终点因匆匆读完尽可能多的书而获奖。记住:质量胜过数量。)”再次强调“质胜于量”,D项“It doesn’t matter how much you end up reading. (你最终读了多少并不重要。)”与“quality over quantity”同义反复,故选D。
5.下文“They don’t fit it in between other tasks they make it the priority. And from that, everything follows: the more you read, the better you get, and the more you want to read. They don’t rush. They savor. (他们不会把阅读挤在其他任务之间,而是把阅读当作首要之事。正因如此,一切便水到渠成:读得越多,能力越强,越想读。他们不匆忙,他们品味。)”总结优秀读者的共性,E项“All great readers share one rule: they value reading. (所有优秀读者都遵循一条规则:他们珍视阅读。)”总领该段,与“prioritize — savor”逻辑链闭合,故选E。
Passage 2
(2026届浙江省湖州市吴兴区等5地高三一模英语试题)Nearly 100 bookworms (书迷) walked through the U.S. national Arboretum on Aug. 24, among the sounds of dogs barking, feet marching and police sirens (警笛声) ringing out from a distance. Many walkers didn’t care about those sounds. 1 This was the monthly meeting for Book It Around D.C., a new club that combines audiobooks and walking.
Since starting in March, Book It Around D.C. has grown, bringing together audiobook listeners who said they felt happier or safer in a group. They also said it not only was a pleasure in reading but also brought them a sense of belonging — even if they didn’t talk to each other. “ 2 ” said Bailey, who listened to “The Book Club for Troublesome Women” by Marie Bostwick.
3 This is especially true because a recent study showed that fewer Americans than before read for pleasure. In addition to audiobook clubs, silent book clubs, where people gather to read silently, have grown in popularity across the country. Many readers have found communities on social media, where some of Book It Around D.C.’s members discovered the group through Instagram.
On the morning of Aug. 24, Kit Ballenger, a librarian who lives in Montgomery County, set up a foldable table in a parking lot in the southern part of the National Arboretum. 4 They each wrote their first name and current audiobook on a white sticker they stuck to the front of their shirts.
The group began walking a few minutes later — some quickly, others slowly — while many walkers opened audiobook apps on their phones. Some walkers used the roughly 90-minute outing to make friends, chatting about their jobs, their favorite books and their go-to grocery stores. 5 After a quiet walk, the lawn filled with chatter (闲聊).
A.Books are just like our close friends.
B.They were trying to focus on exercise itself.
C.Bookworms say they are seeking like-minded people.
D.People of all ages carried head phones as they approached the table.
E.This feels like something that is beautifully both inward and outward.
F.The walkers passed trees, paths and gardens, many stopping to take pictures.
G.Instead, they were listening to narrators read audiobooks on their headphones.
【答案】1.G 2.E 3.C 4.D 5.F

3.由下文“In addition to audiobook clubs, silent book clubs, where people gather to read silently, have grown in popularity across the country. (2026届浙江省ZDB联盟高三一模英语试题)How to Apologize to a Cat
Oh no. You’ve done something to deeply offend your cat, and now it won’t even let you come near it. 1 The following will show you not only how to apologize to your cat, but it will also show you how to do it safely, so that you don’t get scratched.
Determine the offense. What did you do to make your cat so mad at you? Did you make fun of her? Step on its tail? Or did you take its spot on the couch? Knowing what you did wrong will help you decide how to approach your cat. 2
Choose a good time to apologize. If your cat is visibly angry, you will need to give it some time before you try to approach it and apologize; approaching too soon may result in getting scratched. Try not to wait too long to apologize, however. 3 You can also approach a frightened cat, but do so with caution. If your cat keeps running away from you, consider leaving behind a small treat in a place it can find. This will let it know that you are sorry and still care about it.
Walk slowly to your cat. If your cat runs away from you, it may be still be angry, upset, or frightened. Do not chase after your cat. Instead, try again a few minutes later. 4 Having a cat treat ready may also assure your cat.
5 Tell it “I’m sorry.” You may even use your cat’s name. Make sure that you are using a soft, calm voice, with a slightly higher pitch than usual. Your cat may not necessarily understand your words, but it will understand your tone. Do not use a loud, shrill voice; cats do have sensitive hearing and you will only annoy your cat.
A.Talk to your cat.
B.Praise and compliment your cat.
C.This will comfort your cat and help it feel safe.
D.Fortunately, it is possible to earn a cat’s forgiveness.

Passage 1
(浙江省金华十校2025-2026学年高三上学期11月考试英语试题)A leader is someone who inspires positive change by empowering those around them. 1 Effective communication is vital to gain trust, align (统一) efforts in the pursuit of goals, and inspire positive change. Here are some communication skills you need.
Active Listening
Effective leaders know when they need to talk and, more importantly, when they need to listen. Show that you care by asking for employees’ opinions, ideas, and feedback. 2 Pose questions, invite them to explain in detail, and take notes. Keep your focus on the employees and what they’re saying.
Clarity
3 Define the desired result of a project or strategic initiative and be clear about what you want to see achieved by the end of each milestone. If goals aren’t being met, try simplifying your message further or ask how you can provide additional clarity or help. The more clear you are, the less confusion there will be.
Empathy (共情)
Empathy has been ranked the top leadership skill needed for success. The better you get at acknowledging and understanding employees’ feelings, the more heard and valued they’ll feel. In a recent survey, 96 percent of respondents said it was important for their employers to demonstrate empathy. 4 If you want to improve your communication and build a stronger and more productive culture, practice responding with empathy.
Open Body Language
Communication isn’t just what you say; it’s how you carry yourself. Ninety-three percent of communication's impact comes from nonverbal language, according to executive coach Darlene Price. To ensure you’re conveying the right message, focus on your body language. If you’re trying to inspire someone, talking with a furrowed brow (皱眉) isn’t going to send the right message. 5
A.Identify your communication style.
B.Yet nine in ten claimed it remains undervalued.
C.The most powerful tool for doing so is communication.
D.When communicating with employees, speak in specifics.
E.And when they do share, actively engage in the conversation.

1.前文“But during the holiday season, we are often reminded of something important. (下面是帮助我们面对饥饿的邻居的四种简单方法)”引出帮助饥饿邻居的方法,空处应说明重要的事情是什么,且与帮助他人相关,因此E项“It’s to give back, especially to those in need. (把你的朋友、家人或邻居聚在一起,发起一个食物募捐活动)”建议组织食物募捐活动,后文“Then in the weeks leading up to the holidays and at holiday gatherings, encourage your neighbors and family to help make a difference by supporting your food drive. (然后在节日前的几周和节日聚会上,鼓励你的邻居和家人通过支持你的食物活动来帮助改变)”介绍进一步的做法是鼓励身边人支持募捐,空处应介绍食物募捐的第一步,因此G项“Contact your local food bank and learn what items they need most first. 4.前文“Did you know that 51% of all food programs rely entirely on volunteers? (你知道51%的食品项目完全依靠志愿者吗)”指出志愿者的重要性,后文“But the feeling of helping your neighbors in need during the holiday season is priceless. (但是在节日期间帮助有需要的邻居的感觉是无价的)”话题转折,强调提供帮助的价值,空处应和价值形成对比,说明行动或投入虽小,因此B项“It won’t cost you anything. (它不会花费你任何东西)”符合语境,承接前文,和后文构成转折。故选B。
5.前文“There are lots of ways that you can help people facing hunger without leaving the comfort of your own home. Passage 3
(2026届浙江省杭州市上城区等5地高三一模英语试题)The adults in your life play an important role in shaping the person you are. Through their encouragement and guidance, they help you to flourish, learn, and grow. 1 There might also be times when your relationship comes under extra pressure. At these moments, it’s hard not to focus on everything they’re doing ‘wrong’, but there are ways to reset and remind yourself of what you value about them.
● Keep talking.
It’s easy to lock yourself away when you’re upset with your parents or after an argument. It’s normal for healthy relationships to break down occasionally. 2 The key to communicating well is to be open about your feelings but try not to use your words to wound or punish.
● Why appreciation matters.
Life isn’t always easy. But by looking for things to feel grateful for, you can reflect on the positives in life, even in the toughest times. 3 Building an attitude of gratitude takes time and practice. By noticing all the good that your parents do will not only build and improve relationships, but create a positive cycle, where everyone feels that their efforts are acknowledged.
● 4
It might also help to keep in mind that even though the adults in your life can seem all-knowing, they’re actually just ordinary people with strengths and weaknesses. 5 Often, they’re only trying to protect and guide you. This can feel annoying when you want to lead your own life and make your own choices. But good communication is about compromise and can take a bit of practice. Remember that your parents are learning, too!

B.Grow together with your parents.
C.Parents always have the final say.
D.Showing appreciation doesn’t require great efforts.

1.上文“Through their encouragement and guidance, they help you to flourish, learn, and grow (在他们的鼓励和指导下,他们帮助你蓬勃发展、学习并且成长)”说明了成年人对青少年的积极作用,强调双方关系中的正面。下文“There might also be times when your relationship comes under extra pressure (生活中也可能有这样的时刻:你和他们的关系面临额外压力)”则转折到关系中的负面,因此空处需一个过渡句连接“正面”与“负面”。
2.上文“It’s normal for healthy relationships to break down occasionally (健康的关系偶尔出现裂痕是正常的)”说明了“关系出现问题很正常”这一观点。下文“The key to communicating well is to be open about your feelings but try not to use your words to wound or punish.(良好沟通的关键是坦诚表达感受,但尽量不要用你的话来伤害或惩罚)”指出怎样修复关系”,空处需要一个句子承接“出问题正常”并引出“修复很重要”。
3.上文“But by looking for things to feel grateful for, you can reflect on the positives in life, even in the toughest times.(但通过寻找值得感恩的事情,你能看到生活中的积极面,即使是在最艰难的时候)”提出“要心怀感恩”的建议。下文 “Building an attitude of gratitude takes time and practice (培养感恩的态度需要时间和练习)”说明感恩需要时间和练习。 故选A。
下文“It might also help to keep in mind that even though the adults in your life can seem all-knowing, they’re actually just ordinary people with strengths and weaknesses. (记住,尽管你生活中的成年人看起来无所不知,但他们实际上只是普通人,有长处也有弱点)”指出成年人也有弱点,由此可知,“你”应该理解他们并与他们共同成长。选项B “和父母一起成长”既涵盖“父母是普通人(也需学习)”,又呼应下文“Remember that your parents are learning, too!(记住,你的父母也在学习!)”。故选B。
5.上文“It might also help to keep in mind that even though the adults in your life can seem all-knowing, they’re actually just ordinary people with strengths and weaknesses.

A Piggyback Ride from a Stranger
Once a year, Bannister climbs to High Rock Lookout where she scattered her mother’s ashes 23 years ago. 1 Last August, Bannister, then 79, went on her own, figuring she’d be fine because she’s an experienced hiker.
She arrived at the trail early and made her way to the lookout. As she headed back down, her foot got caught in a hole in the ground. 2 When sitting up, she knew immediately she had broken her leg. She cried out for help, and before long, a stranger approached and called 911. They were told a search and rescue team would arrive in five hours.
“It wasn’t very encouraging,” Bannister says. “I asked if anyone had painkillers, because the pain was pretty substantial then.” 3 But two young men, Troy May, an Air Force airman and his friend Layton Allen, came over to see what was going on. When seeing Bannister in extreme pain, they offered to carry her to the bottom of the trail.
May eased Bannister onto his back and started hiking downward. He carried her for most of the nearly three-hour journey, and Allen carried her for the rest. “That was just one kindness,” says Bannister. 4 One, a physical therapist, bandaged Bannister’s foot and built a makeshift splint (夹板) for her leg. The other did breathing exercises with her to help calm her. During the long hike down, her rescuers shared stories to distract her from the mounting pain. Once reaching the parking lot, they rushed Bannister to the nearest hospital.
5 “I think we’ll be lifelong friends,” Bannister says.
A.She was almost in despair.
B.No one in the surrounding area did.

Hiking: A Timeless Exercise Gaining Modern Popularity
Hiking, a form of exercise older than exercise itself, is so hot right now. From2018 to 2021, the number of Americans hitting the trails increased from around 48 million to 59 million. 1
Hiking offers all the cardiovascular (心血管) benefits of walking. 2 The uneven trails strengthen legs and muscles more effectively than walking on flat surfaces. This in turn improves balance and stability, making hiking a full-body workout.
3 . Spending time in nature and experiencing awe-inspiring landscapes can reduce stress and anxiety. A 2015 study found that people who walked in nature for 90 minutes were less likely to engage in depression — compared to those who walked in urban environments.
However, hiking does carry some risks. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, it’s important to take a few simple precautions. If you’re a new hiker, go with a friend or join a local group. 4 Remember: The point is to be able to see the views and smell the flowers.
In conclusion, hiking is more than just exercise. 5 By following basic safety guidelines, hikers can ensure they return home safe and ready for their next adventure. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or a beginner, the trails offer something for everyone.
A.Lace up your boots and start exploring.
B.Hiking also promotes mental well-being.
C.But its advantages go further than heart health.
D.Push yourself harder and faster through challenging trails.
E.It’s a well-rounded activity that benefits both the body and mind.

Passage 1
(2026届浙江省强基联盟高三上学期10月一模英语试题)Nostalgia — the warm feeling of longing for the past— is everywhere in today’s culture. Movies like Barbie, Indiana Jones, and Top Gun are drawing huge crowds by bringing back old favorites. 1
On the surface, nostalgia simply makes us feel good. 2 According to Professor Ziyan Yang from the Institute of Psychology, CAS, nostalgia creates feelings of warmth, belonging, and even a mental escape to the past. During tough times — whether personal struggles or global crises — nostalgia acts like an emotional safety net. Movies and music are powerful triggers because they recreate familiar emotions and experiences.
3 First, it gives us a sense of control. Even when life feels unpredictable, reflecting on our past helps us feel more grounded and secure. Second, nostalgia strengthens social bonds. Though it seems like a personal experience, nostalgic memories often remind us of family, friends, and shared moments.
What does nostalgia do to our brains? Mostly good things! Studies show it boosts happiness, creativity, and energy by activating positive emotions. 4 This youthful optimism encourages us to take risks and chase our goals. Some researchers suggest nostalgia acts like a “psychological immune system”, helping us cope with stress.
But can too much nostalgia be harmful? In small amounts, it’s healthy. However, if we think about the past too much, it can keep us from moving forward. The key is balance — enjoying memories without losing sight of the present. 5 It helps us reconnect with our true selves and remember who we really are.
In short, nostalgia isn’t just about reliving the past — it’s a tool that helps us navigate the present and future with hope.
A.But why do we love nostalgia so much?
B.This is why reunions feel so meaningful to us.
C.Nostalgia also serves key psychological needs.
D.However, psychology experts say there’s more to it.
E.It can even make us feel younger and more optimistic.
F.Remembering happy memories brings comfort and joy.
G.Still, in general, nostalgia is a natural and positive part of life.

Passage 2
(2025届福建省福州市鼓楼区福州第三中学高三第十八次模拟预测英语试题)Many adults are proud to share their fascinations with what others would label as kids’ toys. Mini Brand mystery packs or other blind boxes have become a phenomenon as collectibles for some adults. 1 For others, Legos are on their wishlist encouraged by the brand’s growing number of grown-up sets.
2 Seeking and sparking child-like joy may be part of the appeal, said behavioral therapist Maddy Ellberger. “When something reminds us of a positive memory, we are likely to engage with it because the association relives memories.”
3 Clothing brands are also cashing in on nostalgia (怀旧情怀) from Crocs creating a Lizzie McGure clog to Lululemon’s Disney collection making a full comeback that includes adults. Barbie isn’t just for kids’ clothes now either, thanks to the recent film and “Barbie-core” fashion trend.
In addition to the trendy appeal, the new-found love for these items also speaks to a desire for connection in an increasingly divided world. But whether that desire for connection is satisfied depends on if you can translate the excitement into real, in-person connection. 4 But having or wearing the same thing is not the actual steps of forming shared identity. “And I feel like it’s not one that’s going to last,” Ellberger said.
Ellberger has a great idea for this. “You are into a certain trend, like toys. There’s a good chance you’ll find others who are into the same trend. 5 If it was part of a person’s screen saver, Santa or white elephant, that’s a really cute way of connecting over this,” she said.
A.The craze goes beyond toys.
B.So, what’s with the fascination?
C.It’s a great way to form community.
D.Then give these toys to them as holiday gifts.
E.Social media fuels the trend by creating shared experiences.
F.Even stuffed animals are making their way into adults’ collections.
G.Childhood favorites have instead become relevant to adults again.

3.下文“Clothing brands are also cashing in on nostalgia (怀旧情怀) from Crocs creating a Lizzie McGure clog to Lululemon’s Disney collection making a full comeback that includes adults. Barbie isn’t just for kids’ clothes now either, thanks to the recent film and ‘Barbie core’ fashion trend.(服装品牌也在利用怀旧情怀获利,从卡骆驰推出莉齐·麦圭尔木屐,到露露乐蒙的迪士尼系列全面回归,其中也包括面向成年人的产品。由于最近的电影和‘芭比核心’时尚潮流,芭比也不再只是儿童服装的代名词了)”说明这种现象不仅局限于玩具,还涉及到服装等领域,A选项“The craze goes beyond toys.(这种热潮不仅仅局限于玩具)”能够概括下文内容,起到承上启下的作用。故选A项。
4.上文“the new found love for these items also speaks to a desire for connection in an increasingly divided world. But whether that desire for connection is satisfied depends on if you can translate the excitement into real, in person connection.(对这些物品新产生的喜爱也反映了在一个日益分裂的世界里人们对建立联系的渴望。但这种建立联系的渴望是否能得到满足,取决于你是否能将这种兴奋转化为真实的、面对面的联系)”提到人们对建立联系的渴望,C选项“It’s a great way to form community.(这是形成社区的好方法)”说明拥有相同物品是一种建立联系、形成社区的方式,与上文关于建立联系的话题相呼应。故选C项。

Passage 1
Why Do Electric Vehicles Make People More Carsick?
With electric vehicles (EVs) gaining significant popularity globally — accounting for 22% of new car sales in 2024 — many passengers report experiencing increased motion sickness compared to traditional vehicles. Social media platforms are filled with such personal experiences, particularly from those riding in passenger or back seats. 1
A primary reason for this phenomenon is the lack of familiarity with EV motion patterns. As William Emond, a PhD researcher in France specializing in motion sickness, explains, people’s brains heavily depend on past experiences to predict and interpret motion. 2 For instance, experienced drivers naturally expect acceleration after hearing engine revs in fuel-powered cars, but EVs operate without such familiar auditory signals.
3 Recent research indicates that specific seat vibrations and the complete absence of traditional engine noise in EVs contribute significantly to motion discomfort. Furthermore, the regenerative braking systems — innovative technology that transforms kinetic energy (动能) into battery power — cause an unusually gradual slowdown. 4
Beyond this, motion sickness fundamentally occurs when the brain receives contradictory sensory signals about body movement. The inner ear, visual cues, and physical sensations send mixed messages to the brain, creating what experts call a “neural mismatch”. 5 This mechanism explains why drivers themselves rarely experience carsickness — they control and predict the vehicle’s movements.
A.Such long-term conflict can trigger motion sickness symptoms.
B.Another contributing factor is that EV-specific features add to the problem.
C.Some manufacturers are improving suspension systems to minimize vibrations.
D.Drivers usually don’t experience carsickness due to their control over the vehicle.
E.This technology lengthens the stopping process and may worsen feelings of sickness.
F.Without previous EV experience, the brain has to struggle to estimate forces accurately.
G.In regard to this phenomenon, researchers have identified several scientific explanations.
【答案】1.G 2.F 3.B 4.E 5.A
1.根据前文“With electric vehicles (EVs) gaining significant popularity globally — accounting for 22% of new car sales in 2024 — many passengers report experiencing increased motion sickness compared to traditional vehicles. Social media platforms are filled with such personal experiences, particularly from those riding in passenger or back seats. (随着电动汽车在全球范围内大受欢迎——2024年占新车销量的22%——许多乘客表示,与传统汽车相比,他们晕车的情况更严重了。社交媒体平台上充斥着这样的个人经历,尤其是那些坐在副驾驶或后座的人)”可知,前文引出了电动汽车易让人晕车的现象,此处应引出对该现象的科学解释。G选项“In regard to this phenomenon, researchers have identified several scientific explanations. (关于这一现象,研究人员已经找到了一些科学解释)”起到承上启下的作用,符合语境。故选G项。
2.根据前文“A primary reason for this phenomenon is the lack of familiarity with EV motion patterns. As William Emond, a PhD researcher in France specializing in motion sickness, explains, people’s brains heavily depend on past experiences to predict and interpret motion. (这种现象的一个主要原因是人们对电动汽车的运动模式不熟悉。法国专门研究晕动病的博士研究员威廉·埃蒙德解释说,人们的大脑严重依赖过去的经验来预测和解读运动)”可知,此处是在说明因缺乏电动汽车相关经验,大脑难以应对。F选项“Without previous EV experience, the brain has to struggle to estimate forces accurately. (没有以往电动汽车的经验,大脑难以准确估算力量)”解释了因为缺乏相关经验,大脑难以应对,与前文逻辑连贯,符合语境。故选F项。

Passage 1
(2026届浙江省鄞州中学等十二校联考高三上学期第一次适应性考试英语学科试卷)Building a DIY herb garden is a rewarding endeavor that allows you to enjoy fresh, homegrown herbs right at your fingertips. Whether you’ re an experienced gardener or a beginner, a well- maintained herb garden can enhance your cooking, add beauty to your space, and even provide a sense of relaxation. 1 By following these practical steps, you can create a thriving herb garden that will serve you well for seasons to come.
2 The first crucial step is choosing the right location for your herb garden. Most herbs thrive in full sunlight, requiring at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight per day. However, some herbs like mint and parsley can tolerate partial shade. Consider the amount of sunlight your chosen spot receives throughout the day. 3 If you live in an area with strong winds, find a sheltered location or use windbreaks to protect your delicate herbs.
Select the herbs that suit your needs and growing conditions. Think about which herbs you use most frequently in your cooking. Basil, thyme, rosemary, and oregano are popular choices for enhancing the flavor of Italian dishes. 4 If you have limited space, opt for compact varieties or herbs that can be grown in containers. Also, take into account your local climate. Some herbs are more cold- hardy, while others prefer warmer temperatures.
Prepare the soil properly before planting. Herbs generally prefer well- drained soil that is rich in organic matter. You can improve the soil quality by adding compost, aged manure, or peat moss. 5 This helps the roots of the herbs grow easily. Avoid using heavy, clay- like soil that can retain too much water and cause the roots to rot.
With the right planning and care, your DIY herb garden will not only provide you with a bountiful supply of fresh herbs but also become a delightful addition to your home.
A.However, it’s important to ensure good air circulation around the plants as well.
B.Lavender, on the other hand, is not only great for baking but also has a soothing aroma.
C.But achieving a successful herb garden requires careful planning and the right techniques.
D.Use a garden fork or tiller to loosen the soil to a depth of about 8-10 inches.
E.Determine the size of your garden based on the available space and the number of herbs you want to grow.
F.Also, consider the proximity to a water source, as regular watering is essential for herb growth.
G.Make sure to space the plants according to their mature size to prevent overcrowding.
【答案】1.C 2.E 3.F 4.B 5.D

E.Instead, approach the cat as soon as it appears calmer.
F.It also means that you will spare some time to play with it.
G.It will also help you figure out how to apologize to it properly.

B.Yet nine in ten claimed it remains undervalued.
C.The most powerful tool for doing so is communication.
D.When communicating with employees, speak in specifics.
E.And when they do share, actively engage in the conversation.
F.Your tone of voice equally shapes the perception of your message.
G.Instead, make eye contact and flash a genuine smile to convey warmth and trust.

A.That’s not to say this is easy.
B.Grow together with your parents.
C.Parents always have the final say.
D.Showing appreciation doesn’t require great efforts.
E.The chances are, your parents are doing their best.
F.It’s the making up and repairing part that’s important.
G.Sometimes, though, you might forget your appreciation for them.

F.Always inform someone of your plans and check in with them afterward.
G.This growth reflects hiking's appeal as a way to stay active and connect with nature.

(2026届浙江省宁波市海曙区等5地高三一模英语试题)As our dogs enter their golden years, what they need for their continued comfort and happiness will change. 1 It involves a comprehensive approach that covers their changing health, mobility, and emotional well-being.
It’s important to stay on top of their health with regular vet check-ups to help detect any age-related issues early on. This way, conditions such as joint pain or mental decline can be managed effectively, ensuring your senior dog is getting the care they need. Remember to keep a close eye on their behavior. 2
As your dog ages, their nutritional needs will change, too. It’s essential to change their diet and monitor their weight to prevent any obesity-related health issues. 3 Also consider giving supplements such as a multivitamin which includes joint-supporting ingredients, as well as healthy fats which help improve brain function and support healthy skin.
Your dog might not be as lively as they once were, so adjusting their exercise routine makes sense. 4 Activities like swimming are great, too, as they provide all-round exercise to maintain muscle mass and joint flexibility without putting stress on their old bones.
5 Spend quality time with your senior dog, engaging in activities they love. Your companionship is invaluable to them. With a thoughtful approach to their needs, you can ensure that your loyal companion enjoys their later years with dignity, comfort, and the love they deserve.
Remember, you’re not alone in this. Get in touch with your vet or fellow pet parents if you need advice or support.
