第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节 (共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Shared mobility
Car sharing, bike sharing and the like are good for the environment, though access to them isn’t equal. A lot can be done to give everyone more transportation options.
Why is it easy to maintain shared mobility?
Walk around most large cities in Europe and the United States, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that we’re living in a brave new world of affordable and effortless mobility for all, with the smartphone in your pocket an access to a great number of shared bikes and electric cars, and a ride service never more than five minutes away.
Who are these services more easily accessible to?
If you’ re disabled or elderly, who lives in a low-income area or without a smartphone or credit card, using these shared mobility services becomes a lot more difficult. They tend to be more accessible in many urban areas, and are often inaccessible to people with reduced mobility or those traveling with young children. Because of these factors, users are unequally younger, wealthier, able-bodied, and male.
What are the potential benefits?
On-demand shared mobility that feeds into well-developed public transportation systems could cut transportation emissions (排放物) by 50 percent — but only if it largely replaces private car use.
What options meet your needs today?
How can shared mobility be spread?
Achieving that goal will be challenging, especially in developed countries, where people choose private cars for 61 percent of the kilometers they travel. To move more people away from private vehicles to shared ones, broadening opportunities to reach a larger population is an important first step.
1. Who finds it hardest to use shared mobility?
A. A man with a smartphone. B. A senior without credit cards.
C. A well-off worker in a city. D. A regular bus-taking student.
2. Which service allows people to operate the vehicle themselves?
A. MICROMOBILITY. B. MICROTRANSIT. C. RIDEPOOLING. D. RIDESOURCING.
3. What should be done first to promote shared mobility?
A. Lower smartphone costs. B. Increase varieties of vehicles.
C. Limiting private car sales. D. Expand accessibility to users.
【答案】1. B 2. A 3. D

When community members first proposed teaching kindness in our Bexley High School, I recognized its importance but struggled to define its practice. Our strategic teaching plan already emphasized curiosity and justice, but kindness remained abstract.
Until I attended the Greater Good Science Center’s 2024 Summer Institute, I discovered kindness wasn’t just a virtue but a science-backed strategy for improving mental health and school culture. As Bexley’s experiential learning leader, I was particularly struck by research showing how kindness reduces stress — something I hadn’t fully appreciated before. “I knew kindness was good,” I admitted, “but I didn’t realize how transformative it could be.”
Returning inspired, I cooperated with our headteacher Jason Caudill to design “Cultivating Kindness: A Seminar”, an elective offered in 2025. Unlike traditional classes, it treats discussion, self-directed learning, and reflection as being more important than grades. Students set their own goals around well-being, joy, and service, with teachers guiding rather than determining their progress. To reduce pressure, the course doesn’t affect GPA (平均成绩点数) — an intentional choice to agree with its ideas.
Yet challenges emerged. Competing student priorities and initial low enrollment (登记人数) threatened its carrying out. Caudill saw auspicious signs: student-led initiatives proved a growing appetite for compassion (同理心). “Our students desire connection,” he noted. “When a student struggles, we don’t assume it’s academic — we ask if it’s a relationship issue.”
Though still in its early stages, Bexley’s kindness initiative has already reshaped conversations around students’ well-being. By grounding this approach in research while allowing flexibility, we created a framework other districts could adapt. Our journey proves that with intention and cooperation, kindness isn’t just a lesson — it’s a culture in the making.
4. Why was kindness initially difficult to teach in Bexley?
A. It lacked clear teaching strategies. B. It needed science-backed practice.
C. Its benefits were not fully realized. D. Its importance was often ignored.
5. How does the kindness course differ from traditional classes?
A. It gives students extra credits. B. It prioritizes self-guided growth.
C. It expects teachers to look on. D. It follows a consistent class goal.
6. What does the underlined word “auspicious” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Confusing. B. Difficult.
C. Complicated. D. Promising.
7. What does Bexley’s practice show?
A. Schools focus less on kindness. B. Kindness transforms school culture.
C. Students desire classes on kindness. D. Research inspires flexible teaching.
【答案】4. A 5. B 6. D 7. B

Climate change and habitat loss are threatening water-loving birds, including endangered species like whooping cranes and migrating (迁徙的) shorebirds. Wetland-dependent species have declined by nearly a third, with water bird populations dropping by 20% since 2014. Farmers, facing water shortages and extreme weather, often view birds as harmful animals or crop competitors, further harming the relationship between agriculture and conservation.
Cooperative efforts are underway to combine farming practices with bird conservation. In Texas and Louisiana, traditional rice-and-crawfish farms copy natural wetlands, attracting birds such as egrets and herons. Farmers are proving that agriculture can support biodiversity. Conservationists encourage these practices by highlighting their ecological and economic benefits.
Nonprofit organization Ducks Unlimited pays farmers to flood fields in winter, providing habitats for ducks and geese. This not only aids birds but also decomposes rice plants, reducing farmers’ workload. In drought-stricken regions, Ducks Unlimited encourages leaving harvest waste or flooding unused grassland to support migrating birds.
In Uruguay, conservationist Joaquín Aldabe works with farm owners to adopt controlled grazing (放牧), ensuring grasses stay at an ideal length for insects — critical food for birds during migration. In the Klamath Basin, proposed eco-credit systems could reward farmers for maintaining wetlands that clean runoff and support fish populations, benefiting both birds and the locals that restore endangered fish.
These efforts show promise. Flooded farms in Texas host dozens of bird species, while Uruguay’s grazing adjustments boost insect populations for shorebirds. A 2024 campaign conserved 1 million acres for water birds. As climate change speeds up, conservationists and farmers must work together to create adaptive habitats. While some birds adapt behaviorally, genetic (基因的) adaptation is unlikely. The race to protect and restore farmland and wetland is critical — a quick effort against time to ensure these species survive.
8. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By sharing observations. B. By making an assumption.
C. By listing current threats. D. By revealing a relationship.
9. What does Ducks Unlimited ask farmers to do for migrating birds?
A. Plant grasses on land. B. Clear harvest remains.
C. Turn wetland into farmland. D. Create seasonal habitats.
10. Why does Joaquín Aldabe promote controlled grazing?
A. To preserve water birds’ habitats. B. To shelter birds from the enemies.
C. To sustain food sources for birds. D. To decrease the number of insects.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Farming with Birds: Practice Co-existence. B. Birds in Crisis: Track the Cause of It.
C. Agricultural Reform: Find Efficient Models. D. Climate Solutions: Farmers Lead the Change.
【答案】8. C 9. D 10. C 11. A

A new study from UBC Okanagan says students appear to be using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) responsibly, and as a way to speed up tasks, not just boost their grades.
Dr. Meaghan MacNutt, who teaches professional moral principles in a school, recently published a study in Advances in Physiology Education. Published this month, the paper — titled Reflective writing assignments in the era of GenAI: student behavior and attitudes suggest utility, not futility — contradicts common concerns about students’ use of AI.
The study surveyed 310 students across three courses with identical AI policies, where learners could optionally use GenAI for reflective writing assignments. While only one-third of subjects employed AI,81% of users cited motivations like speeding up work, achieving high grades, or enhancing learning — with over half prioritizing efficiency. Just 0.3% of submissions were mostly AI-generated.
The study does deliver some warnings, she warns. GenAI can be a useful tool for students learning English or people with reading and writing disabilities. But there is also the potential that if paid versions are better, students who can afford to use a more effective platform might have an advantage over others, creating further classroom inequities.
Dr. MacNutt says continued research in this area can provide a better understanding of student behavior and attitudes as GenAI technologies continue to advance. She also suggests that institutions and educators adopt an approach that represents “cooperation with” rather than “control of” students, even though AI continues to be used more frequently.
“ Our findings contradict common concerns about widespread students’ misuse and overuse of GenAI at the expense of academic integrity and learning,” says Dr. MacNutt. “But as we move forward with our policies, or how we’re teaching students how to use it, we have to keep in mind that students come from really different places. And they have different ways of benefiting or being harmed by these technologies.”
12. What does the new study find?
A. Grades inspire most AI users. B. Some teachers show concern for AI.
C. AI harms academic integrity. D. Many students apply AI responsibly.
13. What potential concern does paid GenAI raise?
A. Lowering study efficiency. B. Increasing financial pressure.
C. Widening educational gaps. D. Weakening learning initiative.
14. What does Dr. MacNutt suggest educators do about AI?
A. Keep researching AI. B. Work with students in AI use.
C. Limit the spread of AI. D. Accept dramatic advances in AI.
15. What crucial factor should GenAI policies consider?
A. Students’ attitudes towards smart tools. B. Optional technologies to replace GenAI.
C. Learners’ varied backgrounds and needs. D. Ways of preventing the misuse of GenAI.
【答案】12. D 13. C 14. B 15. C

Suppose you are listening to a program in English and hear the word “suspend”. You have heard this word many times and looked up the equivalent (意思相同的) word in your own language many times, but still forget its meaning. It is easy to blame yourself or think, “I have a terrible memory!” ____16____
The problem is that translating a word into its equivalent word in your language is not an effective way to learn vocabulary. It doesn’t create strong connections in the brain, something critical for remembering information. ____17____ Now, we will discuss how to use images to remember vocabulary.
Danielle Zélin is an English teacher. She has taught for about 25 years, including in South Africa, Latvia and Mauritius, her homeland. ____18____ “Humans think in images,” she says. Zélin uses pictures or images with her beginning students and some of her mid-level students.
Another teacher suggests learners make visual dictionaries with pictures from the Internet. Before you make the dictionary, think about your goals. If the goal is to strengthen what you’ve already learned about, put the words in alphabetical (字母表的) order. ____19____ But if the goal is to write a sentence using each new word, then you probably do not need to put the words into groups.
You can also use word maps. In a word map, you write a central word or idea in the middle and connect it with lines to related words. ____20____ Zélin gives the example of the word “sharp”. If you center that word, you can connect it to words of things that are sharp, such as knife, needle and scissors.
A. Why do you blame yourself for this?
B. Then organize them into related groups.
C. But your memory is actually not the problem.
D. She thinks visual aids vital for language learners.
E. These are mental tools for you to create information.
F. This builds logic associations between relevant words.
G. To really learn words, connect them with mind pictures.

In 2007, when Jon Hegwood was 20, his father passed away and his mother struggled financially to support his family and took on extra cleaning jobs. Jon had to do his part. By the following year, Jon was carrying a heavy load: he had two part- time jobs, looked after his two younger brothers, and attended classes at a community college in Texas. The constant tiredness was wearing him down.
He had enough credits to apply for a certificate of completion. Feeling completely overwhelmed (难以承受), he decided to get the certificate and leave college early. That spring, he made an appointment with his teacher, Lily Barnett, to share his decision about dropping out.
Mrs. Barnett brought him into her office and sat him down. Jon explained why he had to drop out. He had two jobs and his brothers to care for. His family needed him. He had to help his mother in the real world.
Mrs. Barnett looked at him with deep concern and implored (恳求) him to reconsider, stressing how important a full college degree was for his future.“Jon, I understand your responsibilities,” she said, her eyes meeting his.“But completing your degree will open doors that the certificate alone won’t. It makes a real difference later, and will shape your whole life.” However, Jon shook his head firmly and said,“This is my choice and I have to share the load with my mother.”
Mrs. Barnett stopped, thinking hard. Suddenly, she noticed his clenched (攥紧的) fists. Then she made him an offer: If he stayed, she would rearrange his schedule. For his final year, he would only need to attend morning classes, every other day. He would still complete all required courses. This way, he could keep working and caring for his family while finishing his degree.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】After a careful consideration, Jon agreed. A mix of emotions filled him; his tight fists loosened as he said quietly, “Thank you, Mrs. Barnett. I’ll try my best.” True to her promise, Mrs. Barnett changed his classes. Jon worked very hard: early jobs, morning classes every other day, then more work and caring for his brothers. He was always tired, but his family and Mrs. Barnett’s kindness kept him going. He pushed through this hard routine until graduation.
When Jon applied for a dream job after graduation, the employer asked for his degree certificate. Jon’s heart was pounding as he handed it over, recalling the effort he’d made and the crucial help Mrs. Barnett had provided. A few days later, Jon received a call from the employer. The employer told him the good news that he was hired because of his degree and impressive performance in the interview. Feeling quite excited, Jon phoned Mrs. Barnett to share his happiness and express his gratitude. He realized Mrs. Barnett was right: pushing through hard times truly opens new doors.

B
C
D
