Useful expressions:
开头句式:
①你写信说.....,我很理解你。
You wrote that...I understand you quite well.
②听说你在...方面有些麻烦,我写信给你一些建议。
Knowing that you’re having trouble in (doing...),I’m writing to give you some advice.
③ 我的建议如下/这里有一些帮助你的建议。
My advice are as follows./Here are some tips to help you.
④如果你听从以下建议,我认为你会做到的。
I think you can make it if you follow the advice below.
⑤如果你采纳我的建议,改变这种情况是很容易的。
The situation is easy to change if you take my advice.
建议句式:
①首先,为什么不...?你如果这样做的话,就会...
First of all, I recommend you (do...). If you do this, you can ...

Second (ly)/ What's more, you’d better (do ....).That way, you will ...

Use what you have learnt to write a letter of advice to the teenager below.
1. Fill the table: Read Xu Ting’s problem and then list possible suggestions and reasons. (p19)
2. Draft your letter according to the outline below. (p19)

Work in pairs and exchange your drafts. Use the checklist to give feedback on your partner’s draft.
√ Are all the parts of a letter included and organized in a good order?
√ Does the writer give reasons for the advice?
√ Does the writer use proper expressions to give suggestions?

√ Is the handwriting easy to read?

Dear Xu Ting,
You wrote that you don't live with your parents because they work in another city. I understand quite well that you are quite lonely and feel terrible. Here are some tips to help you.
First of all, I recommend that you make new friends. A good friend knows you well and provides necessary help when you are in trouble. If you have some friends, you can spend time with them after school to relieve your loneliness. What’s more, you’d better be more independent. As time goes by, your parents or friends will leave you one by one, which is very natural. Last but not least, if you feel lonely and have no one to talk with, why not try to do something you like to make you feel better?
