Are you looking for some movies? You’ve landed on the right place. Let’s take a look at the list I’ve collected.
A Beautiful Mind
A Beautiful Mind is the story of John Nash, a mathematician who went on to win the Nobel Prize for his Game Theory. This movie brings his whole journey on screen — from his beginning to his downhill ride.
The first half is all about his rise to fame while the second half shows how he slowly falls into madness. After many years of fighting, he finally is victorious.
I.Q.
The story is about an auto mechanic who falls for Albert Einstein’s niece. The only problem is that she is engaged (已订婚的) to someone else. Fortunately, Einstein likes him. The young man pretends to be a physicist to run after her, but things don’t go as he has planned.
If A Beautiful Mind was a little too heavy for you, I.Q. would be the perfect fit. It’s a light drama that is funny and heartwarming for the most part.
Good Will Hunting
Good Will Hunting is a touching tale of a troubled young man called Will Hunting who is gifted with a natural talent in mathematics.
However, he is struggling to find his identity. He can solve any math problem, but not the one he seems to be struggling with in his life. His life seems to be getting only worse until one day he meets Sean, a therapist, who helps him find direction in life.
Creation
Creation is a story of a famous scientist Charles Darwin, best known for his Theory of Evolution. This movie attempts to bring his struggling days into focus, the time when he was dealing with the loss of his daughter and was suffering from hallucinations (幻觉). At the same time, he was working on a book called On the Origin of Species, which he finally completed.
All in all, Creation is a great historical drama.
1. If you are interested in a relaxing movie, which one can you see?
A. I.Q B. Creation C. A Beautiful Mind D. Good Will Hunting
2. Who are experts in mathematics?
A. Will Hunting and Sean. B. John Nash and Will Hunting.
C. Charles Darwin and Sean. D. John Nash and Charles Darwin.
3. What’s the main purpose of the text?

Year-12 student Noah Little has already sat his first Chinese-speaking exam and said it was “the easiest exam I’ve ever done”. That view is not surprising given the Wagga High School student loves language — so much so he has built a Chinese translation app.
Noah said his love of language was encouraged by his community. “Wagga is a place full of people from different cultures, and sometimes when I meet new people who have trouble speaking English I like to talk to them in their own language,” he said. “I also have a few Chinese friends so I think it will be cool to talk to them in their language.”
The 17-year-old started teaching himself Chinese around five years ago, before taking distance education classes at the start of Year 11. His language ability was also useful in his part-time job at a local Chinese restaurant, where he translated orders for the cooks and customers.
Noah said he also had a basic knowledge of seven other languages. It was while teaching himself that Noah got the idea of the translation tool. “I decided to make my own app because there weren’t many around — all the other apps were full of advertisements (广告) and the translation feature (功能) wasn’t powerful enough,” he said.
His app also includes a word of the day feature, lessons on how to write Chinese characters (汉字) and a news feed of important Chinese news.
He said learning computer programming to build the app had been like studying another language. With the end of school around the corner, Noah said he would like to pursue (追求) both his interests in computer programming and languages. “I’m planning to work for a year and save so I can go on to university as I really want to make a career (事业) out of one of these two topics.”
4. What do we know about Noah?
A. He failed his first Chinese exam. B. He began to learn Chinese at 11.
C. He gets a lot from learning Chinese. D. He likes teaching Chinese to people.
5. What are included in Noah’s app?
A. Advertisements. B. Ways of writing Chinese characters.
C. Pieces of world news. D. Suggestions for memorizing words.
6. What has Noah decided to do shortly after high school graduation?
A. Attend university. B. Look for a job.
C. Develop a new app. D. Learn more languages.
7. Which of the following can best describe Noah?
A. Creative and curious. B. Courageous and caring.
C. Humorous and honest. D. Warm-hearted and responsible.
C 5. B 6. B 7. A

Growing up, I washed my hair every day. I was washing my body every day, so I thought I should wash my hair daily too. Then, in my teens, a classmate with hair much thicker than mine told me shampoo (洗发剂) was terrible — it made your hair dry and fragile (易损的). “Use shampoo as little as possible,” she advised.
But is shampoo actually bad for your hair? How often should one be using it? And which type of shampoo should one use? We asked experts.
“I don’t believe that shampoo is bad for hair,” says YeneADamtew, a hairstylist. “Cleaning your hair is important for keeping healthy hair.”
Dr Deeptej Singh says that it is true that shampoo can wash away “natural oils that protect our hair”, but there is a “happy medium”. The best solution is a Goldilocks approach: “Don’t overwash or underwash.” Generally, the range is somewhere between once a day and once a week.
“Each person’s shampoo plan will depend on many factors. These include hair texture (质地),whether it’s chemically treated, activity level and weather,” says Dr Elizabeth, a hair health expert. If you have very fine or thin hair, you may need to wash more often, while those with thick hair may need to wash less often. Color-treated hair should also be washed less often, as these treatments can make the hair more fragile. Deciding when to wash your hair depends on a number of personal factors. But going too long between washes, especially for those hair with much oil, can also harm our hair.
8. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By reporting an event. B. By listing the figures.
C. By sharing an experience. D. By solving the problems.
9. Which of the following best explain “a Goldilocks approach”?
A. Suit is the best. B. Less is more.
C. The more, the better. D. Practice makes perfect.
10. Which of the following may Dr Elizabeth agree with?
A. Color-treated hair should be washed more often.
B. Thin hair should be washed with less shampoo.
C. Thick hair should be washed with less shampoo.
D. Hair with much oil should be washed more often.
11. What will the author continue to write in the following text?
A. Is Shampoo bad for your hair? B. What is the correct way to wash hair?
C. What sort of shampoo should people use? D. How often should people wash their hair?
C 9. A 10. D 11. C
根据文章第一段“Growing up, I washed my hair every day. I was washing my body every day, so I thought I should wash my hair daily too. Then, in my teens, a classmate with hair much thicker than mine told me shampoo (洗发剂) was terrible — it made your hair dry and fragile (易损的). “Use shampoo as little as possible,” she advised.(小时候,我每天都洗头。我每天都洗澡,所以觉得头发也应该天天洗。到了十几岁时,一位头发比我浓密得多的同学告诉我,洗发剂很不好——它会让头发变得干枯易损。“尽量少用洗发剂,”她建议道)”以及第二段首句“But is shampoo actually bad for your hair?(但洗发剂真的对头发有害吗?)”
根据划线词组所在语境“Dr Deeptej Singh says that it is true that shampoo can wash away “natural oils that protect our hair”, but there is a “happy medium”. The best solution is a Goldilocks approach: “Don’t overwash or underwash.”(Deeptej Singh博士表示,洗发剂确实会洗掉保护头发的天然油脂,但存在一个“平衡点”。最佳方案是a Goldilocks approach:不要洗得太勤,也不要洗得太少)”可推测,划线词组指的是既不过度洗头,也不过少洗头,也就是说要适度。故选A。
根据文章最后一段“But going too long between washes, especially for those hair with much oil, can also harm our hair.(但长时间不洗头——尤其是对于油性发质的人来说——也可能对头发造成伤害)”可推测,油性头发的人需要更频繁地清洗。
根据文章第二段“But is shampoo actually bad for your hair? How often should one be using it? And which type of shampoo should one use? We asked experts.(但洗发剂真的对头发有害吗?一个人应该多久用一次?又该选择哪种类型的洗发剂?我们咨询了专家)”可知,作者开篇提出了三个核心问题:洗发剂是否有害、使用频率、选择哪种类型,而文章只介绍了洗发剂是否有害、使用频率,并没有涉及人们应使用哪种类型的洗发剂。由此推知,下文大概率会围绕该问题继续阐述。故选C。
D
We can make mistakes at any age. Some mistakes we make are about money. But most mistakes are about people. “Did Jerry really care when I broke up with Helen?” “When I got that great job, did Jim really feel good about it, as a friend? Or did he envy my luck?” When we look back, doubts like these can make us feel bad. But when we look back, it’s too late.
Why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don’t really listen, we miss the feeling behind the words. Suppose someone tells you, “You’re a lucky dog,” that’s being friendly. But a “lucky dog”? There’s a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn’t see it himself. But bringing in the “dog” bit puts you down a little. What he may be saying is that he doesn’t think you deserve your luck.
“Just think of all the things you have to be thankful for” is another noise that says one thing and means another. It could mean that the speaker is trying to get you to see your problem as part of your life as a whole. But is he? Wrapped up in the phrase is the thought that your problem isn’t important. It’s telling you to think of all the starving people in the world when you haven’t got a date for Saturday night.
How can you tell the real meaning behind someone’s words? One way is to take a good look at the person talking. Do his words fit the way he looks? Does what he says agree with the tone of voice? His posture (姿势)? The look in his eyes? Stop and think. The minute you spend thinking about the real meaning of what people say to you may save another mistake.
12. The purpose of this passage is to tell us .
A. how to interpret what people say
B. what to do when you listen to others talk
C. What causes you to go wrong with your friends sometimes
D. how to avoid mistakes when you communicate with people
13. According to the author, the reason why we go wrong about our friends is that .
A. we tend to doubt what our friends say
B. we fail to listen carefully when they talk
C. people usually state one thing but mean another
D. people tend to be annoyed when we check what they say
14. In the sentence “Maybe he doesn’t see it himself” in the second paragraph, the pronoun “it” refers to .
A. a bit of envy B. a lucky dog C. being friendly D. your luck
15. The author most probably is a .
A. teacher B. psychologist C. editor D. doctor
D 13. C 14. A 15. B

根据文章第二段“Why do we go wrong about our friends or our enemies? Sometimes what people say hides their real meaning. And if we don’t really listen, we miss the feeling behind the words.(为什么我们会对朋友或敌人产生误解?有时候,人们说的话会隐藏真实意图。如果我们不认真倾听,就会错过话语背后的情绪)”可知,我们对朋友产生误解的原因是人们的话语往往隐藏真实意图,即常说的“言不由衷”。故选C。
【14题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词组所在语境“But a “lucky dog”? There’s a bit of envy in those words. Maybe he doesn’t see it himself.(但“幸运儿”?这个说法里,其实带着一丝嫉妒。或许说话人自己都没意识到这一点)”可知,前文明确提到“幸运儿”这句话里带着一丝嫉妒,后文的it指代前文提到的核心内容——“一丝嫉妒”。故选A。

There are also dictionaries which translate words into foreign languages. When using a dictionary to find out how to say something in another language, one has to be careful to choose the right word.
前文“A dictionary is a book which explains the meanings of words. The words are put in order. (词典是解释词义的书。这些词是按顺序排列的)”介绍词典的用处,说明词的排列规则,因此C项“In this way they can be found quickly. (这样就可以很快地找到它们)”符合语境,说明这样排列的好处,承接前文。故选C。
【17题详解】
空处位于段首,需引出段落内容。后文“They include dictionaries which explain words and how they are used, dictionaries which translate words from one language into another, dictionaries of biography which tell about famous people, and so on. (它们包括解释单词及其用法的词典,将单词从一种语言翻译成另一种语言的词典,讲述名人传记的词典,等等)”具体介绍了词典的类型,因此B项“There are several types of dictionaries. (词典有几种类型)”符合语境,点明词典有不同类型,引出后文。故选B。
【18题详解】
前文“Dictionaries which explain what words mean will give a clear “definition (定义)” of a word. Good dictionaries will also give more information about the word. They will explain how it is pronounced. (解释单词含义的词典会给出一个单词的清晰“定义”。好的词典也会给出更多关于这个词的信息。它们会解释这个词的发音)”说明词典包含的内容:定义、更多信息、发音,因此F项“Also, they will explain how the word is used. (此外,他们还会解释这个词的用法)”符合语境,说明词典还提供词的用法,承接前文。故选F。
【19题详解】
前文“When using a dictionary to find out how to say something in another language, one has to be careful to choose the right word. A word like “right” has two basic meanings in English: The first meaning is “correct”, and the second is “the opposite of left”. (在用词典查找另一种语言如何说某物时,必须小心选择正确的单词。像“right”这样的单词在英语中有两个基本意思:第一个意思是“正确的”,第二个意思是“与左相反的”)”用英语中“right”这个单词说明用这种词典时需小心选择单词,后文“They will have different words for these different meanings. (它们会用不同的词来表达这些不同的意思)”解释小心选择的原因,因此G项“However, other languages are not like English. (然而,其他语言不像英语)”符合语境,点明其他语言和英语的差异,承前启后,其中的other languages是后文They指代的内容。故选G。
【20题详解】
空处位于段首,需引出段落内容。后文“You may wonder why. That’s because new words are often brought into a language or words that may change their meanings. (你可能想知道为什么。这是因为新词经常被引入一门语言,或者可能会改变它们的意思)”用新词的引入和词义的改变解释了一个事情的原因,因此E项“Dictionaries need to be renewed frequently. (词典需要经常更新)”符合语境,点明词典需要常更新,与后文的解释呼应。故选E。

The New Kid in Class
At the beginning of the new term, every student came to school happily. One day, Jackson, a friendly student, sat at his school desk and looked over at the new kid in class. His name was Billy, who just moved here from Florida. His first day in class was yesterday and, so far, Jackson had not talked to him. Today, at rest, Jackson was going to try to make a new friend.
When the bell rang for a rest, Jackson hurried out of his seat and followed Billy outside.
”Hi Billy,“ Jackson said with a smile as they walked outside. ”Do you want to play basketball?“
”No. I’m not very good at basketball. “
”Do you want to play kickball? “ Jackson asked again.
”No. I’m not good at that either, “ Billy said. Billy walked away from Jackson and sat on a big flat rock in the grassy part of the school yard.
Jackson stood there and wondered what to do next. He asked Billy to do two things and both times Billy said no. He felt a little depressed. Maybe Billy didn’t like to get along with Jackson. Maybe he didn’t want to be friends. Jackson thought about playing basketball with the other kids. He looked over at Billy sitting on the rock all by himself. It must be hard to move to a new school, Jackson thought. He decided to give it one more try and let him be his friend. What would be a better one? He paced backwards and forwards nervously.
It was at that time that Jackson reached into his pocket and pulled out two toy cars that his brother gave him before. His brother has tons of cars and always gives him his old ones. It was the two cars that made him give it one more try.

Billy expressed his apology to his previous rejections and showed great thanks to Jackson’s inviting him to play. He told Jackson he had a hard time making friends.
“Well, you made one friend today,” Jackson said. Hearing that, Billy’s eyes were widely open because he couldn’t believe what had happened. And then his smile lit up the whole ground and he shook hands with Jackson tightly. At last Jackson invited Billy to come to his house and see other cars .Jackson was also happy that he did not give up one more try and finally made a new friend. He thought they were going to be best friends.

Creation
Creation is a story of a famous scientist, Charles Darwin, best known for his Theory of Evolution.
3 What’s the main purpose of the text?

C. To recommend actors. D. To compare movies.

C. people usually state one thing but mean another
D people tend to be annoyed when we check what they say
14. In the sentence “Maybe he doesn’t see it himself” in the second paragraph, the pronoun “it” refers to .
A. a bit of envy B. a lucky dog C. being friendly D. your luck
15. The author most probably is a .
A. teacher B. psychologist C. editor D. doctor
