While you are online there are plenty of perfectly legal sites where you can listen to music for free. This gives you the chance to listen to music before buying it, discover new music, and create great online playlists that you can share with others.
The Sixty One
The Sixty One is devoted to showcasing obscure (模糊的) or unknown artists of all genres (体裁). There is a range of musical styles from classical to rock and roll, folk to jazz, and everything in between. Don’t expect to find big name musicians on here; you are more likely to find the musicians playing at local coffee shops than bands you hear on the radio. You can find fantastic music that you never would have heard of otherwise.
Pow Wow
Pow Wows are the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships, and making new ones. This is a time method to renew Native American culture and preserve the rich heritage of American Indians. PowWows.com has 2 online radio stations that play Native American Music 24/7 free! Here you can listen to your favorite artist and drum groups on your computer or mobile device and add your music to our station.
Playlist
Playlist has an enormous library, so you can create playlists with almost any musician you can think of. They have both some less known artists and big names, so you have a really good selection. The worst part: Due to licensing laws, many of the songs on Playlist are now restricted, to certain countries. So unless you live inside the US, it is likely that you might not be able to find all of your favorite songs.
Pandora
Pandora is an intelligent Internet radio site. Basically, as you listen, you can give each song thumbs up or thumbs down. You can create your own radio station that only plays music you like. The best part: It listens to your opinion, so that after a while it’s only playing music you like, but the list is always changing and expanding.
My Space
Combine a major social networking site with thousands of artists around the world. Each musician has their own page, which normally has a playlist of several of their songs. But it has a huge range of musicians ranging from huge stars to the up-and-coming, and you can listen to the music and interact with the rest of the page.

(B)
When people ask me how I started writing, I find myself describing an urgent need that I felt to work with language. Having said that, I did not know for a long time what I was looking for. It was not until I followed this feeling to its source that I discovered I had a passion for writing. With some encouragement from my colleagues, I had one of my poems published. This bit of success, however, was the point where my problem began.
Back in 1978, I had to travel between three different campuses in the morning, teaching freshman composition. Afternoons I spent taking my daughter to her ballet and horse-riding lessons. I composed my lectures on the way, and that was all the thinking time I had. When I returned home, there was not enough of me left for writing after a full working day.
As a way out, I decided to get up two hours before my usual time. My alarm was set for 5:00 A.M. The first day I shut it off because I had placed it within arm's reach. The second day I set two clocks, one on my night table, and one out in the hallway. I had to jump out of bed and run to silence it before my family was awoken. This was when my morning writing began.
Since that first morning in 1978, I have been following the habit to this day, not making or accepting many excuses for not writing. I wrote my poems in this manner for nearly ten years before my first book was published. When I decided to write a novel, I divided my two hours: the first for poetry, the second for fiction. Well or badly, I wrote at least two pages a day. This is how my novel, The Line of the Sun. was finished. If I had waited to have the time, I would still be waiting to write my novel.
What I got out of getting up in the dark to work is the feeling that I am in control. For many people, the initial sense of urgency to create easily dies away because it requires making the tough decision: taking the time to create, stealing it from yourself if ifs the only way.

Scientists are developing unmanned planes—called drones—what can collect weather information from the atmosphere.
Weather experts say their weather forecasts would be more accurate if they had information from many parts of the atmosphere. They already place satellites, drones and balloons at different altitudes (高度). And they use radar (雷达) and collect information from equipment on towers. But that information only helps experts predict weather conditions for the next few days. It does not help predict changes in the next few hours. This is very important where sudden, violent storms happen.
So scientists at Oklahoma State University are developing new drones to collect information from more parts of the Earth’s atmosphere. This will help forecasters improve predictions about local weather conditions.
Jamey Jacob is an aerospace engineer and a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Oklahoma State University. He and other scientists at the university are developing small drones that do not cost a lot of money but can fly for hours, collecting information from many atmospheric levels.” Oklahoma is a really good example, because even though we’re already a very weather-dynamic (动态天气的) state, Oklahoma only has two balloon launches a day—one at dawn and one at dusk—from a single location in the state, and that’s where all the weather forecasting information comes from. So that data is really sparse, and it’s difficult for weather experts to get a very good idea about how that weather is changing from these very limited number of data points.”
Phillip Chilson, a professor of meteorology (气象的) at Oklahoma State University, says the drone program should give researchers a low-cost way of understanding storms better, and improve computer-based forecasting. The drone can measure atmospheric conditions, send live video to forecasters, and help search for people hurt in storms. “Our real goal is to try to develop systems. I don’t want to say they will replace weather balloons but there may be that possibility. Researchers still have a lot of work to do before the drones are ready. That includes making sure the drones know how to stay away from other planes.”
46. According to the text, the drones being developed can________.
A. raise people’s interest in science
B. help to improve weather predictions
C. replace weather balloons and satellites
D. examine different altitudes of the Earth
47. The underlined word “sparse” in Paragraph 4 probably means________.
A. limited B. reliable C. confused D. correct
48. What does Phillip Chilson think of the drone program?
A. Worried. B. Hopeful. C. Doubtful. D. Satisfied.
49. What can be concluded from the last paragraph?
A. The drones can not be put into use now.
B. It will cost a lot of money to build drones.
C Researchers find it difficult to design planes.
D. The drone program should be carried out on planes.
50. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a team of scientists.
B. To explain how unmanned planes work.
C. To report a new way of predicting weather.
D. To give some advice on preparing for storms.
(D)
People who have got rhythm might have an advantage when it comes to language and reading skills. A new study shows the brains of people who can move to a musical beat react to speech on a more consistent basis than those who can't. Researchers also find that musical training can sharpen the brain’s response to language.
The researchers say their discovery provides the first biological link between the ability to keep a beat and how the brain responds to speech, something that can have important value for reading skills. To gather materials for their research, the team got more than 100 teenagers who lived in Chicago, Illinois. The teens were given two tests. First, they were instructed to listen to and tap their fingers along to the beat. The researchers calculated low accurately their young volunteers were able to tap along to the musical timekeeper. Second, the teen subjects were linked to an EEG device, which measures electrical activity in the brain. The EEG device was focused on an area of the brain that not only processes sound, but is also connected to parts of the brain responsible for motor-movement. The researchers recorded the brainwaves as their teen subjects listened to the synthesized speech sound, which was repeated irregularly for half an hour. The researchers were able to find out how the nerve cells in that particular region of the brain responded every time the synthesized sound was played.“Across this population of adolescents, the more accurate they were at tapping along to the beat, the more consistent their brains' response to the letter unit was,” said Nina Kraus.
While past studies have showed the links between reading skills and a person’s ability to keep a beat, the researchers said their new findings show the hearing system is what provides a common basis for those links. “Rhythm is naturally a part of music and language.” Nina said.
51. According to the first paragraph, what can get the brain’s reaction to language more effectively?
A. Rhythm. B. Reading skills.
C. Language. D. Musical training.
52. What can we lean about “ the first biological link” mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A. It shows how the brain works.
B. It is very important for reading ability.
C. It shows how the brain reacts to speech.
D. It is helpful to researchers' findings.
53 The underlined word“subjects”in Paragraph 2 probably means “______”.
A. persons or animals that are studied in an experiment or a research
B. areas of knowledge studied in a school, college, and so on
C. things that are being discussed in a conversation or a book
D. persons or things that are the main features of works of art
54. It can be inferred from the last paragraph that ______.
A. reading skills may make language learners keep a beat
B. the hearing system may be useless while a person is learning to read
C. the hearing system may separate sound from meaning while a person is reading
D. the hearing system may be used while a person is reading or taking musical training
55. What can we conclude from this passage?
A. Moving to a musical beat is more popular.
B. Experts are expanding their studies on rhythm.
C. Rhythm might help us improve our reading skills.
D. Experts find the links between the hearing system and reading.

第五部分 语言知识运用(共两节,共35分)
第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
I read an article in my local paper a while ago,and it really inspired me. There was a couple in my neighborhood whose house had been badly damaged in a storm we had earlier this year. I remember it well. I have never experienced so big a storm in my life, and the hailstones were almost the size of baseballs which broke everything on the roofs of the houses.
I read this article a few months after the storm and I learned that this couple didn't have insurance and that they had just bought their first house. They were a common young couple and they had been saying for five years to get their home. Unfortunately, their home was badly damaged in the storm not only by the strong wind but a tree outside their house had fallen and destroyed part of the house. With all of their savings spent buying the place, they didn't have enough money to perform the maintenance of their house, nor could they buy a new one as they couldn't afford it.
Then one day just when they were thinking nothing would get better, they came home from work and found an envelope in their mail box. When they opened it,they found some money with a note that said,“I have been driving past your house on my way to work for the last month,it looks like you need this more than I do,best of luck. ”The words were clear but no name was left.
They couldn't reach the kind stranger,so they had to write to the local paper thanking him/her. The article caught the eye of the leaders of some companies who volunteered to cover the costs of repairs on the couple's home.
I was really inspired by this story, and I try to do things for others every chance I get. I really understand that one act of kindness sometimes is so inspiring that it has the ability to change the world.

So scientists at Oklahoma State University are developing new drones to collect information from more parts of the Earth’s atmosphere This will help forecasters improve predictions about local weather conditions.

53. The underlined word“subjects”in Paragraph 2 probably means “______”.
A. persons or animals that are studied in an experiment or a research
B. areas of knowledge studied in a school, college, and so on
C things that are being discussed in a conversation or a book
D. persons or things that are the main features of works of art

【答案】Dear Chris,
I’m writing to invite you to a theme sharing session which is held by our school’s “Spiritual Growth Club” and whose title is “Overcoming Thorns, Gaining Fragrance”.
The session aims to help us learn from each other’s experiences of overcoming difficulties. It will include story-sharing, group discussions, and a Q&A part.
Speaking from my own experience, I once struggled with my English speech contest. I was too nervous to speak in public, but I kept practicing daily, recording myself and asking teachers for advice. Finally, I won the third prize. I think perseverance is the most important quality—only by sticking to it can we turn thorns into fragrance.
I sincerely invite you to join us. It would be great if you could share your own stories too. The session will be at 3 pm next Friday in the school lecture hall. Looking forward to your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
