As husband, Joe, and two sons were trapped in the wildfire, wife and mother, Lisa Ebright, waited for their safe return. While Joe and his two sons, Dominic and David, were out camping on their Labor Day trip that had become a sort of family tradition, they were trapped in the area by the Creek Fire. When they first learned the wildfires spreading in their direction, Joe said no smoke could be seen in the surrounding areas. They decided to go to sleep and leave in the morning. In the meantime, the wildfires spread quickly throughout the night and in the morning, the family found that the area they were in was surrounded by thick smoke. Joe said to the reporters that, at that time, they didn’t know exactly how big the fire was nor its exact location. Because they had no way of communicating during that period, Lisa was up all night waiting for their return. Luckily, this family’s story ended happily with a reunion (团聚). However, the California wildfires are ongoing and millions of acres of land have already fallen victim to this disaster (灾难). The Creek Fire trapped hundreds of campers near the Mammoth Pool Reservoir. Joe explained that he was concerned about his wife, Lisa, waiting for their return without a way to communicate with them. He also said that they could not know how serious the wildfires were until they came back home, seeing on TV news reports and how the situation was affecting lots of families. 4. How were Joe and his two sons trapped by wildfires? A. They lived near mountains. B. They went out to put out fires. C. They went out for a family tradition. D. They caused a fire by accident when camping. 5. Why did Joe decide to sleep out when fires were coming in their direction? A. He didn’t know fires broke out. B. He lost his way in the evening. C. His wife told him it was safe. D. He thought it was safe then. 6. How did Joe know the fires were serious? A. By watching news reports. B. By seeing the fires himself. C. Through other campers. D. Through his wife. 7. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Joe escaped from fires bravely B. A family reunited after wildfires C. Wildfires affected many families D. Serious fires broke out in California 【答案】4. C 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第二段“While Joe and his two sons, Dominic and David, were out camping on their Labor Day trip that had become a sort of family tradition, they were trapped in the area by the Creek Fire.(在劳动节假期,Joe带着两个儿子外出露营,这本是他们家的一种传统。然而,他们却遭遇了Creek Fire,被困在了当地。)”可知,Joe和他的两个儿子是参加家庭传统活动时被野火困住了。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“When they first learned the wildfires spreading in their direction, Joe said no smoke could be seen in the surrounding areas. They decided to go to sleep and leave in the morning.(当他们第一次得知野火向他们的方向蔓延时,Joe说周围地区没有看到烟雾。他们决定先睡一觉,明早再走。)”可知,当大火朝他们的方向逼近时,Joe决定先睡一觉,是因为他觉得那是安全的。故选D。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“He also said that they could not know how serious the wildfires were until they came back home, seeing on TV news reports and how the situation was affecting lots of families.(他还说,他们直到回家后在电视新闻报道中看到野火的严重情况,以及这场灾难给许多家庭带来的影响,才意识到火势的严峻。)” 故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第一段“As husband, Joe, and two sons were trapped in the wildfire, wife and mother, Lisa Ebright, waited for their safe return.(当丈夫乔和两个儿子被困在大火中时,妻子和母亲Lisa Ebright等待着他们的安全归来。)”和最后一段“Luckily, this family’s story ended happily with a reunion (团聚).(幸运的是,这个家庭的故事以团圆而圆满结束。)” B。 C Singapore is a city-state in Southeast Asia. Thanks to a program, we got a chance to explore the Garden City for one day. First, we headed to the Gardens by the Bay. We were attracted by the Supertrees at once. They are high-rise gardens, which produce electricity using energy from the sun, collect rainwater, and more. From there, we headed to the Cloud Forest, which I found most amazing in this Garden City. In hot and wet Singapore, this is a great place to cool off. Inside, a large waterfall comes down the side of the “cloud mountain.” This intricate structure (错综复杂的建筑) is divided into three levels and contains plants from different places. Visitors are free to walk around and learn more about all of the plants. Our journey then led us to a theater inside the Cloud Forest where we watched a ten-minute film. I was totally taken aback by what I saw. I had never realized that our planet would change so greatly when the temperature increased by just five degrees. Then we headed back outside and continued on our walk. Between two of the larger Supertrees, you’ll find the Skyway. Visitors can head to the top to enjoy a fantastic bird’s eye view of the city. Next, we made our way to the Singapore River, where we saw a boat going by. In search of food, we headed into the Marina Bay Sands. It has what has to be the best food court I’ve ever eaten in, with delicious food from all over the world. We ordered different kinds of dishes, which were all tasty. Needing to walk off that huge lunch, we walked from one side of the river to the other. On the other side, we found Merlion, the symbol ( 象征) of Singapore. Water flows out of the mouth of this amazing creation all day long. While walking along the riverside and enjoying the beautiful view, I couldn’t help but wish we had more time to explore this Garden City. 8. Which of the following did the author most enjoy? A. The Skyway. B. The Cloud Forest. C. The Supertrees. D. The Marina Bay Sands. 9. How did the author feel when he watched the film? A. Surprised. B. Relaxed. C. Satisfied. D. Pleased. 10. What did the author’s group do after lunch? A. They climbed a cloud mountain. B. They took a boat trip on the river. C. They had a rest in the Marina Bay Sands. D. They went for a walk near the river. 11. Where does this text probably come from? A. A science report. B. A tourist guidebook. C. A travel magazine. D. A geography textbook. B 9. A 10. D 11. 由第二段中的“From there, we headed to the Cloud Forest, which I found most amazing in this Garden City.(从那里,我们前往云雾森林,我发现这个花园城市最神奇的地方。)” 由第二段中的“I was totally taken aback by what I saw. I had never realized that our planet would change so greatly when the temperature increased by just five degrees.(我完全被我所看到的吓了一跳。我从未意识到,气温仅仅上升5度,我们的星球就会发生如此巨大的变化。)”可知,作者对影片内容感到很吃惊,他之前一直没有意识到温度升高5度会对地球造成如此大的影响。故选A。 由最后一段中的“Needing to walk off that huge lunch, we walked from one side of the river to the other.(为了消化这顿丰盛的午餐,我们从河的一边走到另一边。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段的“Singapore is a city-state in Southeast Asia. Thanks to a program, we got a chance to explore the Garden City for one day.(新加坡是东南亚的一个城市国家。多亏了一个项目,我们有机会在花园城市探索了一天。)”可知,本文记述了作者一行人在新加坡一日游期间的所见所闻,因此很可能选自某旅游杂志。故选C。 D When someone asks me what my goals are for the coming year, I don’t usually know how to reply. Of course I, as most people do, want to see an improvement in my grades. This year, however, I’m hoping for something different. Through the course of my school life, I’ve gradually developed a new understanding of the word “prioritization (优先次序)”. The first thing I wish to get in Senior 1 is the ability to manage my time better. I’ll surely become busier with the coming semester (学期), and proper organization is important. From school clubs to academic competitions, everything should be set up in a way that doesn’t influence my health, which leads me to my second goal. My mother has always told me put my health first, so in the future, I hope to both physically and mentally healthy. A person can’t study without having the energy to do so. In order to stay energetic, they must put their health first, no matter how busy they are, or how much work they have to complete. And finally, I hope that I won’t be discouraged (泄气的) by my failure and never give up on my dreams. I hope that I’ll have the courage to try new activities and clubs. I believe my final goal can apply to every student around the world. We should all respect one another’s likes and dislikes, and concentrate on each other’s advantages, not our disadvantages. Everyone should try to take part in all of life’s opportunities(机会). Albert Einstein once said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance (平衡), you must keep moving.” In my case, it’s the other way around. In order to keep moving, I must keep my balance—the balance between studies and activities, efficiency (效率) and procrastination (拖延症), academics and health, passions and dislikes. The new journey is going to be a hard one, but if I set these goals, I believe I will make it through to the end. 12. During this school year, what does the author hopes to do? A. Concentrate on improving her overall grades. B. Join as many school clubs as possible. C. Learn how to manage her time well. D. Spend more time on outdoor activities. 13. According to the article, which of the following students should do? A. Not be afraid of failing. B. Always put their studies first. C. Only do what they’re good at. D. Make different kinds of friends. 14. What does the underlined word in the last paragraph mean? A. A strong feeling of dislike B. A strong feeling of love C. A strong feeling of anger D. A strong feeling of joy 15. What does the author plan to do? A. Show what she likes about high school life. B. Stress (强调) the importance of health to students. C. Show how to balance our studies and activities. D. Share her goals for the coming high school year. C 13. A 14. B 15. 根据第二段中的“Through the course of my school life, I’ve gradually developed a new understanding of the word “prioritization (优先次序)”. The first thing I wish to get in Senior 1 is the ability to manage my time better. (在我的学校生活中,我逐渐对“优先次序”这个词有了新的理解。我希望进入高一的第一件事是能够更好地管理我的时间。)”可知,作者希望在高一要首先做的一件事情是提升自己管理时间的能力,由此可知,作者在这个学年里,希望能管理好自己的时间。故选C项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“And finally, I hope that I won’t be discouraged (泄气的) by my failure and never give up on my dreams. I hope that I’ll have the courage to try new activities and clubs. I believe my final goal can apply to every student around the world. (最后,我希望我不要因为失败而气馁,永远不要放弃我的梦想。我希望我有勇气尝试新的活动和俱乐部。我相信我的最终目标可以适用于世界各地的每个学生。)”可知,最后,作者希望自己不畏失败,有勇气尝试新的活动,而且认为最后的目标适应全世界所有的学生,由此可知,学生应做的是是不怕失败。故选A项。 根据划线单词前的“In order to keep moving, I must keep my balance—the balance between studies and activities, efficiency (效率) and procrastination (拖延症), academics and health…(为了继续前进,我必须保持平衡——学习和活动、效率(效率)和拖延症、学业和健康之间的平衡……)” 根据首段“When someone asks me what my goals are for the coming year, I don’t usually know how to reply. Of course I, as most people do, want to see an improvement in my grades. This year, however, I’m hoping for something different. (当有人问我来年的目标是什么时,我通常不知道如何回答。当然,我和大多数人一样,希望看到我的成绩有所提高。然而,今年,我希望能有一些不同的东西。)”以及最后一段中的“The new journey is going to be a hard one, but if I set these goals, I believe I will make it through to the end.” I’m often asked how to study English effectively. For example, if you are learning new vocabulary, you can create a word map, describe a picture, make a list...(不要只用一种方法学习英语。 可知,此空应总结多种学习方法的作用,C选项“All of these methods together help with your learning(所有这些方法共同助力你的学习)”中的“All of these methods”指代前文“创建单词图、描述图片”等方法,总结了多样化学习的益处,符合语境。 The heaviest snow in a hundred years hit the south of China. She really hated physics. It was her worst subject. Terry looked at her, and then looked away quickly. Ella thought Terry looked pleased, because she didn’t have a problem with physics, she didn’t have a problem with anything — Miss Perfect (完美)! “I thought we were friends, but she hasn’t spoken to me for two weeks now, she promised to help me go over for the physics exam too, but then she’s forgotten all my calls and texts. And when I rang her house, her mum just told me she was busy.” Ella thought angrily. At that moment, Mr. Reed asked all the students into the exam room. Ella couldn’t answer some physics questions. Suddenly she saw Terry sitting two rows in front of her. Ella couldn’t believe it! Terry was holding her phone on her knee under the table and reading from it. Is that how Terry always got such good grades? She felt really angry at Terry, and thought about telling the teacher, but… “Stop writing,” said Mr. Reed and started to collect the exam papers. Oh no, Ella hadn’t answered two of the questions. She was going to fail again! Ella wanted to talk to Terry at lunchtime, but she couldn’t find her anywhere. Ella went to the library to prepare for the history exam, which was her favorite. But she couldn’t concentrate. “Unfair! Terry was getting good grades by cheating (作弊) all that time.” She thought about telling a teacher, but everyone would hate her if she did that. Just then, Mr. Reed walked past her table. Ella told Mr. Reed everything she saw in the physics exam. Ella was sitting behind Terry again in the history exam that afternoon. Mr. Reed wanted her to look at Terry and agreed if she saw that Terry was cheating in the exam. She was working on the last question when she saw that Terry had her phone under the table. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Ella was walking towards the school gate when she saw Terry waiting for her there. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: She was working on the last question when she saw that Terry had her phone under the table. Ella nodded to Mr. Read. Mr. Read went to Terry quietly and picked up Terry’s phone. All was clear, Mr. Reed asked her to leave the classroom. Terry walked out crying. Everyone was staring at her and Ella felt really relaxed. She knew it wasn’t easy, but she stood by what was right. With a clearer conscience, Ella refocused on her history exam, determined to prove her own worth. As she submitted her paper, she felt a sense of accomplishment, knowing she had faced her challenges honestly. Ella was walking towards the school gate when she saw Terry waiting for her there. “Ella, please wait.” Terry said, “I’m sorry I haven’t answered any of your calls, but my dad’s been ill for two weeks and had a heart operation today. During exams I was reading texts from my mum to see how it was going. I have explained to Mr. Read and he asked me to take the exam again.” Ella couldn’t help crying, either. “You should have told me this earlier. Let me know if you have difficulties. We are true friends.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①拿起:pick up/take up ②提交:submit/hand in ③解释:explain/give explanation 情绪类 ①哭:cry/shed tears ②抱歉:sorry/apologetic 【点睛】[高分句型1] She knew it wasn’t easy, but she stood by what was right. Serious fires broke out in California C Singapore is a city-state in Southeast Asia. A A science report. B. A tourist guidebook. C. A travel magazine. D. A geography textbook. D When someone asks me what my goals are for the coming year, I don’t usually know how to reply. D. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
