Born into a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners (从业者), 26-year-old Ismail Daurov from Kazakhstan has wanted to follow in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps and become a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) since he was a child.
So when a TCM clinic (诊所) that was jointly built by local and Chinese health workers officially opened about a year ago in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan, Daurov jumped at the opportunity to work there.
“Many Kazakh patients had already looked for other means—even traveling to other countries- to find treatment for their diseases before visiting us, and they were amazed at the immediate results of TCM therapies (疗法) such as acupuncture, cupping and massage, Daurov said.
Li Honggang, a hospital manager from the Xi’an TCM Hospital, working alongside with Daurov, said that because of the country’s cold, windy climate and a traditional diet heavy in beef and lamb, a large number of patients suffer from diseases like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, lower back and leg pain. TCM treatments can play a perfect role in treating these diseases.
“Despite the language barrier (障碍), local patients give us a thumbs-up to express their thanks,” Li said. “Moreover, sometimes we ask them how they learned about the clinic, and many of them say through word of mouth.”
“I am deeply moved by the interest of Kazakh people in TCM,” said Daurov. As for the, future, Daurov hopes more TCM experts from China will come to share their knowledge and experience with Kazakh people, helping build more TCM clinics and expand their services in Kazakshstan. “I want to be a bridge between TCM and Kazakhstan,” he says. “I want to help my people understand and appreciate this ancient wisdom so that they can live healthier and happier lives.
24. Why did Daurov decide to be a TCM doctor?

Growing up, I washed my hair every day. I was washing my body every day, so I thought I should wash my hair daily too. Then, in my teens, a classmate with hair much thicker than mine told me shampoo (洗发剂) was terrible — it made your hair dry and fragile (易损的). “Use shampoo as little as possible,” she advised.
But is shampoo actually bad for your hair? How often should one be using it? And which type of shampoo should one use? We asked experts.
“I don’t believe that shampoo is bad for hair,” says YeneADamtew, a hairstylist. “Cleaning your hair is important for keeping healthy hair.”
Dr Deeptej Singh says that it is true that shampoo can wash away “natural oils that protect our hair” but there is a “happy medium”. The best solution is a Goldilocks approach: “Don’t overwash or underwash.” Generally, the range is somewhere between once a day and once a week.
“Each person’s shampoo plan will depend on many factors. These include hair texture (质地), whether it’s chemically treated, activity level and weather,” says Dr Elizabeth, a hair health expert. If you have very fine or thin hair, you may need to wash more often, while those with thick hair may need to wash less often. Color-treated hair should also be washed less often, as these treatments can make the hair more fragile. Deciding when to wash your hair depends on a number of personal factors. But going too long between washes, especially for those hair with much oil, can also harm our hair.
28. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By listing the figures. B. By sharing an experience.
C. By reporting an event. D. By solving the problems.
29. Which of the following best explain “a Goldilocks approach”?
A. Less is more. B. The more, the better.
C. Suit is the best. D. Practice makes perfect.
30. Which of the following may Dr Elizabeth agree with?
A. Hair with much oil should be washed more often.
B. Color-treated hair should be washed more often.
C. Thin hair should be washed with less shampoo.
D. Thick hair should be washed with less shampoo.
31. What will the author continue to write in the following text?
A. Is Shampoo bad for your hair?
B. What is the correct way to wash hair?
C. How often should people wash their hair?
D. What sort of shampoo should people use?
B 29. C 30. A 31. D

根据第一段“Growing up, I washed my hair every day. I was washing my body every day, so I thought I should wash my hair daily too. Then, in my teens, a classmate with hair much thicker than mine told me shampoo (洗发剂) was terrible — it made your hair dry and fragile (易损的). “Use shampoo as little as possible,” she advised.(从小到大,我每天都洗头。我每天都洗身体,所以我想我也应该每天洗头发。然后,在我十几岁的时候,一个头发比我浓密得多的同学告诉我洗发水很糟糕——它让你的头发又干又脆弱。她建议:‘尽量少用洗发水。’)”可知,作者是通过讲述自己的经历来引出话题。故选B项。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段中“The best solution is a Goldilocks approach: “Don’t overwash or underwash.” Generally, the range is somewhere between once a day and once a week.(最好的解决方案是Goldilocks approach:‘不要洗得过多或过少。’一般来说,范围在一天一次到一周一次之间。)”可知,a Goldilocks approach指的是头发不宜洗的过多或过少,适度、适合是最好的。故选C项。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一句“But going too long between washes, especially for those hair with much oil, can also harm our hair.(但是洗头间隔时间过长,尤其是对那些发质油腻的头发来说,也会伤害我们的头发。)” 故选A项。
根据第二段“But is shampoo actually bad for your hair? How often should one be using it? And which type of shampoo should one use? We asked experts.(但是洗发水真的对头发有害吗?应该多久使用一次?应该用哪种洗发水呢?我们询问了专家。)”可知,作者共提出了三个问题。第三段的句子““I don’t believe that shampoo is bad for hair,” says YeneADamtew, a hairstylist.(‘我不相信洗发水对头发有害,’发型师叶尼·亚当特说)”回答了第一个问题。第四段的句子“The best solution is a Goldilocks approach: “Don’t overwash or underwash.” Generally, the range is somewhere between once a day and once a week.(最好的解决办法是Goldilocks的方法:‘不要洗得过多或过少。’一般来说,范围在一天一次到一周一次之间。)”和最后一段的内容回答的第二个问题。第三个问题还没有答案,所以,在下面的文章中,作者将继续探讨第三个问题“Which type of shampoo should one use?(应该用哪种洗发水呢?)”。故选D项。

During the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Google made public an Olympic-themed advertisement to promote its Gemini AI chatbot. Surprisingly, the ad caused heated criticism, leading Google to remove it a week after its release.
The advertisement showed a father using Google’s Gemini AI chatbot to help his daughter write a fan letter to US Olympic track star Sydney Maclaughlin-Levrone. In the advertisement, the father believes AI will do a better job than himself, “She wants to show Sydney some love and I am pretty good with words. But this has to be just right.”
However, this idea didn’t win other viewers. “This description of the advertisement is misleading. As it overestimates AI’s ability to understand and convey nuances (细微差别) of human emotions and thoughts.” wrote Shelly Palmer, a media professor at Syracuse University in the US, in a blog post. “Who wants an AI-written fan letter?” one viewer added. Viewers also expressed concern that too much reliance (依赖) on AI tools could ruin children’s learning opportunities.
“Instead of guiding her to use her own words and communicate authentically (真正地), the father is teaching her to rely on AI for this critical human skill.” said Palmer. Palmer stressed that our use of language deeply shapes our reality. For example, you or I might refer to a color as “red”, but that same color might be labeled “scarlet” by an artist or “dark rose” by a designer. Language not only communicates information but also reflects the speaker’s unique perspective. Google seems to suggest that this young girl doesn’t need to develop her own ability to express and shape her reality, according to Palmer.
The use of generative AI also lacks the emotional depth that comes from personal expression. Palmer once received a message from a reader years ago that read: “You’re too stupid to own a smartphone.” He loved this humorously sarcastic (讽刺的) email so much that he had it hung on his office wall. “It was honest, direct and probably accurate,” he said, “Give me a heartfelt message rather than a grammatically correct, AI generated message any day.”
32. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Google’s Olympic-themed advertisement for Gemini AI chatbot received criticism.
B. Google’s Gemini AI chatbot was very popular during the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
C. AI-written fan letters are better than those written by humans.
D. People should rely more on AI tools.
33. According to the passage, why did viewers criticize the advertisement?
A. Because it showed a father who was not good with words.
B. Because it underestimated AI’s ability to understand human emotions.
C. Because it overestimated AI’s ability to convey nuances of human emotions and thoughts.
D. Because it encouraged children to use smartphones too much.
34. What does the underlined word “perspective” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Experience. B. Achievement. C. Viewpoint. D. Target.
35. What is Shelly Palmer’s attitude towards AI-generated messages?
A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Neutral. D. Indifferent.
A 33. C 34. C 35. B

通读全文,并根据第一段“During the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Google made public an Olympic-themed advertisement to promote its Gemini AI chatbot. Surprisingly, the ad caused heated criticism, leading Google to remove it a week after its release.(在2024年巴黎奥运会期间,谷歌公开了以奥运为主题的广告,以推广其双子座人工智能聊天机器人。令人惊讶的是,这则广告引起了激烈的批评,导致谷歌在发布一周后将其删除)”可知,这篇文章的主旨是谷歌为双子座人工智能聊天机器人制作的奥运主题广告遭到了批评。故选A。
根据第三段“This description of the advertisement is misleading. As it overestimates AI’s ability to understand and convey nuances (细微差别) of human emotions and thoughts.(这种对广告的描述具有误导性。因为它高估了人工智能理解和传达人类情感和思想细微差别的能力)”可知,观众批评广告是因为它高估了人工智能传达人类情感和思想细微差别的能力。故选C。
【34题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“Palmer stressed that our use of language deeply shapes our reality. For example, you or I might refer to a color as “red”, but that same color might be labeled “scarlet” by an artist or “dark rose” by a designer.(帕尔默强调,我们对语言的使用深刻地塑造了我们的现实。例如,你或我可能把一种颜色称为“红色”,但同样的颜色可能被艺术家标记为“猩红色”,或被设计师标记为“深玫瑰色”)”可知,通过“红色”描述的例子,我们知道了语言的使用塑造了我们的现实,并反映了我们独特的视角。因此语言不仅仅是用来交流的,还能反映讲话人的独特视角。由此猜测,划线词意为“视角”,与viewpoint同义。故选C。
【35题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段““It was honest, direct and probably accurate,” he said, “Give me a heartfelt message rather than a grammatically correct, AI generated message any day.”(他说:“这是诚实、直接和可能准确的,给我一个真诚的信息,而不是语法正确的人工智能生成的信息。”)”

Sports bring us together
Sports are more than competitions.
I used to be very shy and often felt lonely. Although I did well in all the academic subjects, I was afraid of physical education. Even kids in the neighborhood would laugh at me. “Look at that girl,” they said. “Her feet don’t leave the ground when she runs!” Their words embarrassed me. At school, whenever the teacher organized some competitive games, no one in the class would choose me as their partner or team member. As a result, I often ended up looking at others enjoy their games.
Things would go on like that if not for a sports meet in my high school. By mistake, my name was put on the list of those who would compete in the women’s 1500 meters race. By the time people found the mistake, it was too late to change.
My deskmate, Mary, was a natural athlete. She said to me, “I couldn’t run that race in your place, because I have signed up for three items already.” I nearly broke down. 1500 meters! Running against the best runners in front of the whole school! It would be the worst nightmare I’d ever have!
“You still have time to catch up because there is still one month before the sports meet,” Mary patted me on the shoulder, “That is cool! You will run for our class! And we will do training together.” Yes, this is not just for myself, but for my class. But still, 1500 meters to me was like Mount Everest (珠穆朗玛峰) to a beginning climber. I had no idea even how to start my preparation.
Mary invited me to join in their training. Every afternoon after class, several of us ran together. When the fear of being laughed at flooded over me, I saw others running right beside or stand by the tracks cheering for us. They gave me strengths.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Before I could realize how fast one month went by, I was standing behind the start line of the sports meet.

As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Before I could realize how fast one month went by, I was standing behind the start line of the sports meet. Seeing my classmates waving their hands as if about to run beside me, I no longer felt lonely or afraid. With the shot of the starting gun, I dashed out and ran as fast as I could, as if it were a 200-meter race. Soon I was out of breath and slowed down. Other runners passed me one by one, and gradually I had no idea how many of them were still behind me. My legs were getting heavier and heavier, and I might fall down at any moment. However, I suddenly heard Mary calling my name. My deskmate even ran along the track beside me and cheered for me at the same time, just like the month- long training we did together. Gritting my teeth, I pushed myself on step by step.
As expected, I was almost the last to cross the finish line. When I was wondering how to apologize for my poor performance, my classmates came around to hold my arms, helping me walk on my feet and not to sit down. I was surrounded, with all kinds of drinks handed to me. The kind of warmth that I felt at the very moment stayed fresh on my mind. Obviously, one month certainly couldn’t make me a good runner, but I was full of confidence that I would improve in the future. Sports are not about winning or losing competitions, but bringing me close to my classmates and helping us grow together.

“I am deeply moved by the interest of Kazakh people in TCM” said Daurov.
A. He was inspired by his family. B. He got advantages from it as a patient.
C. He wanted to save money for patients. D. He was trained in it at university.
25. What causes the locals’ diseases according to Li Honggang?
A. Heavy work. B. Poor life. C. Eating habits. D. Lack of knowledge.
26. Which word can best describe the TCM clinic in Astana?

27. What is Daurov’s expectation of TCM in Kazakhstan?
A. It will become affordable. B. It can be used on animals.
C. It can benefit more people. D. It can replace the local culture.

Dr Deeptej Singh says that it is true that shampoo can wash away “natural oils that protect our hair”, but there is a “happy medium”.
29 Which of the following best explain “a Goldilocks approach”?

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
Before I could realize how fast one month went by, I was standing behind the start line of the sports meet.
