UBI (universal basic income) is the idea of government unconditionally providing every citizen with enough money to live a basic, above-the-poverty-line life. If it is really under a UBI system, work may become a choice.
In today’s world, UBI-type systems are embraced in some Scandinavian countries, while in others (like the US), only the most billionares tend to support the idea.
But that may change in the future, when progress in AI are likely to make human labor increasingly disused — first for jobs like truck-driving, but eventually invading (入侵) most types of work.
If we’re moving towards a world where a tiny few people are surprisingly rich and the largest part of people is unemployed, wouldn’t UBI be not only a good idea but a necessity? And isn’t a future where wages and labor are no longer tied together a better time to be alive than today? Won’t people of the future look back and say, “Wait, in the past, if people didn’t work, they couldn’t afford to eat?”
We’d also love to hear people’s thoughts on whether today’s world would be better or worse if UBI were carried out. And if you live in a UBI-ish country, tell us what UBI life is like. Tell us on the official website or tell us by email.
34.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To explain how UBI makes society better.
B.To introduce what is called UBI.
C.To make a survey on people’s opinions about UBI.
D.To explain human labor will become no longer in use in the future.
35.According to the second paragraph, which following sentence is true?
A.UBI-type systems are accepted in all Scandinaviay countries now.
