Julia Green knows this well. Just as she graduated from college, a financial crisis swept the country, making it hard to get a job in journalism. Despite her growing worries, she didn’t give up on her dream; instead, she tried a global volunteer program for her self-growth. A year later, Green began taking random writing jobs to make ends meet, while dreaming of a day when she could write freely and be paid for it. Afterwards, she applied for the fully funded Master of Fine Arts program, and was accepted to study fiction writing at the University of Michigan. Though the program didn’t end up opening many doors for her, she was paid to write and take classes. Green has never shied away from challenging topics. Marriage, healthcare, employment and more have featured noticeably in her writing, and she is especially impressive when it comes to music criticism. “I’ve intentionally tried to keep my lane (道路) very wide,” she said. “It was what I had to do in the beginning. I wanted to become a well-rounded writer.” She penned articles for a variety of websites. Slowly, she began to build a reputation for fearlessness. “I’ve been writing since I was 22. This craft requires that you have a tough skin.” said Green, when asked about her writing journey. “As a writer, you are not well served by caring what other people think about you. You have to be emotionally prepared to face rejection.” In the past decade, Green, lacking many examples to model after, has achieved remarkable success through great effort. She landed regular writing positions, had worked in respected journals, made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and wrote a world-class bestseller. By any young journalist’s definition, Green had arrived. 24. What do we know about Green from the first two paragraphs? A. A financial crisis ruined her dream. B. Further education made her optimistic. C. Volunteering brought her new jobs. D. Her passion for writing did not change. 25. Why did Green pursue a diverse path? A. To show off her creativity. B. To please critical readers. C. To develop her adaptability. D. To build her a reputation. 26. What matters most to her career according to Green? A. Handling criticism bravely. B. Maintaining youthful skin. C. Gaining public recognition. D. Writing about her journey. 27. Which words can best describe Green? A. Independent and considerate. B. Generous and creative. C. Hard-working and determined. D. Ambitious and modest. C Artificial intelligence (AI) is now being applied to help save the endangered red squirrels (松鼠) in the UK. The groundbreaking technology, known as Squirrel Agent, has been trained to spot the difference between red and grey squirrels in order to manage special feeders (喂食器) intended only for red squirrels, with the long-term goal of controlling their populations. Red squirrels are the only squirrel species native to the UK. However, they have been under threat since grey squirrels were introduced from North America in the late 19th century. Today, greys are thought to number some 2.7 million, while reds only a few hundred thousand. This is largely because greys are bigger, outcompeting reds for food and habitats, and carry squirrelpox — a disease that is deadly to reds. Collectively, these challenges have pushed red squirrels to the edge of extinction. Squirrel Agent, which reportedly achieves a 97% success rate, recognises reds based on their size, shape and weight, and features such as tails, faces and ears. When reds are detected, the feeders are remotely opened, automatically. For greys, however, the feeders remain closed. In such cases, the system either sets off traps or encourages greys to consume birth-control pills. “It’s a real showcase of what AI can do — it’s working in real time to handle a task that we don’t have enough human volunteers for,” says Emma McClenaghan, co-founder of GenysysEngine, the company that developed the system. Project Red Heaven, as the programme is known, is currently being tested by five wildlife charities, including the Scottish Wildlife Trust and Ulster Wildlife. This, however, is just the beginning. It is hoped that the tool’s technology will develop and advance further — not only to identify different species, but also to recognise individual squirrels. Over time, it is expected that AI will gather valuable data, enabling conservationists to track family lines and better support the recovery of red squirrel populations. 28. What is the function of paragraph 2? A. To show red squirrels’ extinction. B. To explain the species of squirrels. C. To provide background information. D. To give a specific example. 29. How does Squirrel Agent respond to a grey squirrel approaching a feeder? A. It offers birth-control food first. B. It calls human volunteers for help. C. It drives the grey squirrel away. D. It shuts the feeder and may activate a trap. 30. What can we learn about Project Red Heaven? A. It is likely to have a more promising future. B. It was created by the Scottish Wildlife Trust. C It can correctly identify individual animals. D. It has been fully applied by wildlife charities. 31 What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Squirrel Agent: An AI to Identify Squirrelpox B. New Feeders: A Solution to Saving Red Squirrels C. Project Red Heaven: A Program to Protect Wildlife D. AI Technology: An Approach to Saving Red Squirrels D Recently, researchers have discovered that light pollution is causing birds to wake up earlier and go to sleep later. This finding came as a surprise to the researchers. “While we expected some behavioral adjustments to the lights at night, we didn’t envisage that it would be this influential,” says Neil Gilbert, an ecologist at Oklahoma State University. This study marks the first global research into how artificial lighting affects birds’ daily lives. Past research has repeatedly shown that bright city lights can be confusing and deadly for traveling birds, sending them off course. But Gilbert and his colleague Brent Pease adopted a broader approach by analyzing millions of bird-song recordings. These recordings were collected by thousands of devices (设备) placed in backyards and other locations, by non-professional birdwatchers and other wildlife enthusiasts across continents, as part of a program called BirdWeather. After checking the data for 4.4 million bird calls, the team studied the daily start and end times of singing activities of 583 bird species, comparing those times to the local light pollution levels. In the brightest places, birds extended their singing time by an average of 50 minutes compared with the darkest — by 18 minutes in the morning and 32 minutes in the evening. Overall, birds with larger eyes relative to their body size showed the strongest response to light pollution. The Hairy Woodpecker, for example, has relatively small eyes. “It didn’t respond strongly to light pollution,” Pease explained. “Neither did the Eastern Bluebird. Additionally, birds that nest in dark areas — like holes in trees — weren’t significantly affected by light pollution.” The researchers stress that the natural patterns of birds’ being interrupted deserves close attention. However, they say it’s too early to tell if staying up longer is actually harmful to the birds. They say it’s possible that the birds are adjusting somehow and that extra activity may even be helpful, giving birds more time to find food to feed their young. 32. What does the underlined word “envisage” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Predict. B. Claim. C. Prove. D. Explain. 33. What do we know about Gilbert and Pease’s bird research? A. It was inspired by bird calls. B. It examined mass bird-song data. C. It was based on local past research. D. It relied on data collected in the wild. 34. What does the study find about the Eastern Bluebird? A. It hates singing overtime. B. It has relatively larger eyes. C. It is not sensitive to light. D. It tends to live in darkness. 35. What’s the researchers’ attitude to the changes of birds’ sleeping patterns? A. Uncertain. B. Indifferent. C. Supportive. D. Anxious. In a recent conversation one person asked, “What are the characteristics of an effective teacher?” I had already read quite a few excellent remarks describing what such a teacher does to be effective. ____36____ I had an amazing psychology professor in college. He was on fire every class period and his enthusiasm was infectious. But what I remember most are the psychological experiments in which we participated. ____37____ I now realize his brilliance lay not in merely lecturing, but in designing learning experiences that created lasting understanding. Truly great teachers share this quality: They shape educational experiences that allow students to become active “leaders of their own learning”. ____38____ Whether through practical projects, emotional connection, or thinking for themselves, students learn best by being involved, but not by depending on teachers. For example, many excellent teachers use project-based learning, where students investigate real questions based on key knowledge. ____39____ Outstanding teachers also encourage curiosity, show care, and adjust to how different students learn. They build trust and let students ask questions and learn from errors. Their teaching belief is clear and important: Real learning happens when students take part. Good teachers know that they can’t make students learn just by talking. Students have to be willing to experience it themselves. So good teachers do more than share knowledge. They build an environment that makes students want to learn — raising interest, helping them explore, and guiding them to think. ____40____ What students learn in this way is not only deep but also stays with them, often going beyond school and influencing how they deal with problems in life. A. I often ask myself why students like learning alone. B. Different teachers have different teaching approaches. C. Besides organizing tasks, they also know when to step back. D Such an environment makes learning easier and more lasting. E. Now I still remember every detail and the supporting theories. F. However, I couldn’t help thinking about the best teacher I had. G. But helping students learn independently isn’t their only advantage. Years ago, I disliked exercise. Still, the smallest things made me feel out of place. Luckily, the Wilsons, my host family, did everything they could to help me settle in — driving me around, sharing meals, and even letting me use their kitchen when. I. missed Chinese food. With their warmth and support, everything seemed to fall into place. But at school, small moments felt bigger than I’d imagined. In our first literature class, we discussed a Hemingway story. Everyone jumped in actively, while I struggled to speak up. My desk-mate encouraged me, “Next time, just speak up.” I nodded, forcing a bitter smile. And just like that, I found myself in another cultural trap, Mrs. Wilson’s birthday dinner. At the table, I answered politely but kept mostly to myself. Mrs. Wilson noticed my silence and gently asked, “You alright, sweet girl? You’ re so quiet tonight.” My face reddened. Was my silence seen as cold, rather than polite? That night, restless and wide awake, I wondered if I needed to laugh louder, speak faster; or hide parts of myself just to feel I belonged. Questions flooded my mind, none with answers. A few days later, our teacher announced there would be a Culture Festival next week. “You’ ll prepare a stand to share your own culture — food, crafts, customs ... anything meaningful. You can not only display your culture but also make it interactive, allowing people to try new things, learn traditional skills. or share stories and cultural symbols,” she said. The class lit up with excitement. I sat frozen, mind racing: how could I share my traditions in English? The thought made my stomach twisted (扭曲). Yet, I gathered myself with a deep breath and signed up. After that, I threw myself wholeheartedly into preparations, until the day finally came. At the Culture Festival, I stood behind my stand, nervous but ready. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ From that day on, my world here started to change. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 安溪一中、养正中学、惠安一中、泉州实验中学2025年秋季期中联考 高二英语 (试卷满分:150分,考试时间:120分钟) 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? M: It must be a lot of work for you. W: Yes, I needed someone to help me. Luckily, my neighbor Linda was eager to perform with me. Her husband records the music to go with the shows. M: Have you ever encountered any problems? W: Only once. I performed a show for a group of three-year-olds, and I’d written a story about a lion. Unfortunately, the children were quite afraid of the lion and started crying. That experience taught me that I need to find out in advance what children enjoy. M: And the shows continue to be successful? W: Yes, they do. I love every minute of every show, and other people love them too. 18. Put on a heavy coat. 20. When are the flights available? A. From October to March. B. From March to October. C. Only in May. A 19. A 20. If you’re looking for a special present for yourself or a friend, why not book a flight in a hot air balloon? These exciting trips give you the chance to enjoy a really unusual view of the countryside. For a successful flight, we need light winds. It’s also important that there’s no rain and we have a clear sky. If there are too many clouds, we’ll cancel the flight and your trip will be arranged for another date. The temperature in the air is similar to that on the ground so you should wear casual outdoor clothes. Also, you should remember to wear boots. This is because you may need to walk through wet and muddy fields at the end of the trip. All our flights take place in the evening and departure time depends on when the sun sets. The season starts in March, and in May, for example, flights would be at 6:00 pm. The last flights are in October, and after that we close for the winter. If you would like to book a flight or receive more information about hot air balloons, just feel free to call us. It will be a trip you will never forget. A Freshwater is important for all life on our planet. 24. D 25. C 26. A 27. 根据第四段““I’ve been writing since I was 22. This craft requires that you have a tough skin.” said Green, when asked about her writing journey. “As a writer, you are not well served by caring what other people think about you. You have to be emotionally prepared to face rejection.”(当被问及自己的写作历程时,格林说:“我从22岁起就一直在写作。 故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第一段“The path to success isn’t always clear-cut. C. It can correctly identify individual animals. D. It has been fully applied by wildlife charities. 31. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Squirrel Agent: An AI to Identify Squirrelpox B. New Feeders: A Solution to Saving Red Squirrels C. Project Red Heaven: A Program to Protect Wildlife D. AI Technology: An Approach to Saving Red Squirrels 【答案】28. C 29. D 30. A 31. When reds are detected, the feeders are remotely opened, automatically. For greys, however, the feeders remain closed. In such cases, the system either sets off traps or encourages greys to consume birth-control pills. 根据第三段“Squirrel Agent, which reportedly achieves a 97% success rate, recognises reds based on their size, shape and weight, and features such as tails, faces and ears. C. Supportive. D. Anxious. A 33. B 34. C 35. 根据第二段中的“While we expected some behavioral adjustments to the lights at night, we didn’t envisage that it would be this influential.(虽然我们预计鸟类会对夜间灯光做出一些行为调整,但我们没有envisage其影响会如此之大)”可知,envisage与前半句的expected语义相近,意为“预料、预测”,与predict“预测”同义。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“But Gilbert and his colleague Brent Pease adopted a broader approach by analyzing millions of bird-song recordings.(但吉尔伯特和他的同事布伦特・皮斯采用了更广泛的研究方法,分析了数百万份鸟类鸣叫录音)”可知,两人的研究对大量鸟类鸣叫数据进行了分析。 根据第四段中的“The Hairy Woodpecker, for example, has relatively small eyes. “It didn’t respond strongly to light pollution,” Pease explained. “Neither did the Eastern Bluebird.(例如,毛啄木鸟的眼睛相对较小。皮斯解释说:“它对光污染没有强烈反应。”东部蓝鸲也没有)”可知,研究发现东部蓝鸲对光污染不敏感。故选C项。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“However, they say it’s too early to tell if staying up longer is actually harmful to the birds. They say it’s possible that the birds are adjusting somehow and that extra activity may even be helpful.(然而,他们表示,现在判断熬夜是否真的对鸟类有害还为时过早。他们说,鸟类可能正在以某种方式适应,额外的活动甚至可能有帮助)”可知,研究人员对鸟类睡眠模式的变化持不确定态度。故选A项。 In a recent conversation one person asked, “What are the characteristics of an effective teacher?” I had already read quite a few excellent remarks describing what such a teacher does to be effective. ____38____ Whether through practical projects emotional connection, or thinking for themselves, students learn best by being involved, but not by depending on teachers. So, good teachers do more than share knowledge. D. Such an environment makes learning easier and more lasting. E. Now I still remember every detail and the supporting theories. F. However, I couldn’t help thinking about the best teacher I had. G. But helping students learn independently isn’t their only advantage. F 37. E 38. C 39. G 40. 【36题详解】 前文“I had already read quite a few excellent remarks describing what such a teacher does to be effective. (我已经读过不少精彩的评论,描述了这样的老师如何做到有效)”提到读过很多关于有效教师的描述,后文“I had an amazing psychology professor in college. (我大学时有个很棒的心理学教授)”开始回忆自己的一位心理学教授,空处需要一个过渡句,连接理论描述和个人经历,因此F项“However, I couldn’t help thinking about the best teacher I had. (然而,我忍不住想起了我遇到过最好的老师)”符合语境,和前文构成转折,引出后文个人经历。故选F。 【37题详解】 前文“But what I remember most are the psychological experiments in which we participated. (但我记得最清楚的是我们参加的心理实验)”提到记得最清楚的是心理实验,后文“I now realize his brilliance lay not in merely lecturing, but in designing learning experiences that created lasting understanding. 【39题详解】 上一段主要提到优秀的教师让学生成为自己学习的领导者,后文“Outstanding teachers also encourage curiosity, show care, and adjust to how different students learn. They build trust and let students ask questions and learn from errors. Their teaching belief is clear and important: Real learning happens when students take part. 【40题详解】 前文“So, good teachers do more than share knowledge. They build an environment that makes students want to learn — raising interest, helping them explore, and guiding them to think. (所以,好老师不仅仅是分享知识。他们创造了一个让学生想要学习的环境——提高他们的兴趣,帮助他们探索,引导他们思考)”总结好教师营造有利的学习环境,后文“What students learn in this way is not only deep but also stays with them, often going beyond school and influencing how they deal with problems in life. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】【参考范文】(116+115词) At the Culture Festival, I stood behind my stand, nervous but ready. Taking a deep breath, I once again neatly arranged all the well-prepared items: red paper and scissors. Soon, students and teachers gathered, curiosity in their eyes. I welcomed them with a smile and demonstrated: fold, cut, unfold — and a butterfly spread its wings. A wave of surprise rippled through the crowd. Encouraged, I invited a boy to try; his star turned out uneven, yet drew laughter and applause. More joined eagerly, and I moved among them, guiding their hands, praising their efforts and celebrating each creation. When a teacher proudly held up her paper flower, the cheers grew louder. Red pieces fell to the floor, and my confidence, once hidden, shone through every new pattern. From that day on, my world here started to change. In the hallway, students waved butterflies from my stand and greeted me with bright “Ni hao!” My heart lifted as I waved back. In literature class, I gave voice to my ideas with newfound confidence. My English was not flawless, yet my voice was steady, and instead of silence I saw nods and smiles. After class, a girl asked softly, “Can you show us more about your culture?” Her words lingered in my heart, echoing like a gentle reminder. In that echo, I realized I had not only broken free from cultural shock but also found my place in a shared story — one written by many voices, yet open enough to hold my own. 词汇激活 行为类 ①赞美:praise/speak highly of ②意识到:realize/be aware of ③鼓励:encourage/inspire 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/astonishment ②渴望地:eagerly/longingly 【点睛】[高分句型1]Taking a deep breath, I once again neatly arranged all the well-prepared items: red paper and scissors.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) [高分句型2]In that echo, I realized I had not only broken free from cultural shock but also found my place in a shared story — one written by many voices, yet open enough to hold my own.(运用了省略了that的宾语从句,过去分词短语作后置定语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
