He was exhausted after working long hours. But the party was being held at Scales and Tails Utah, a reptile (爬行动物) center in suburban Salt Lake City. Since childhood, Donnie has been crazy about reptiles. “They’re now the closest thing we have to a dinosaur,” he says. So, he went with his wife. When they arrived, they were led to a small indoor area with a pool of water surrounded by nine-foot-tall viewing windows. Inside was a 150-pound alligator (短吻鳄) named Darth. He swam around the pool before resting his head on a platform. For safety’s sake, Bull, his trainer, wanted Darth off the platform before beginning the show. Entering the enclosure (围场), she held out an arm and yelled “Back!” Unexpectedly, Darth opened his jaw to reveal all of his teeth. Bull placed her left hand under his jaw and tried to move him backward, a technical move she’d performed before. But today, Darth wasn’t having it. He rolled his head to the side, surprising Bull. Her hand slipped out from under Darth’s jaw and right into his mouth, and Bull was dragged into the pool. Outside the enclosure, some wondered if this was part of the show. Not Donnie. Sensing something was wrong, he threw open the glass door and climbed inside. “Jump on his back!” Bull shouted. Donnie jumped from the platform to sit on the alligator’s back, pressing down with all of his 180-pound body weight. “Push your fists into the top of his nose!” said Bull. Donnie did as he was told. For the next minute or two, they waited. When Darth finally eased his bite, Bull quickly pulled her hand out of his mouth and was helped by a bystander. That left Donnie alone on the top of the alligator. Bull shouted: “Move your hands from his nose to his neck! Sit up, then push off his back to stand and get to the platform!” Donnie cautiously sat up and jumped off Darth, moving out of the enclosure. Bull’s hands were treated promptly. Though recovered, she hasn’t stopped thinking about Donnie. Aside from a few scratches, Donnie was more shaken than injured. Still, he says, “I’m just glad I was there.” 4. What made Donnie go to Scales and Tails Utah? A. His wife’s invitation. B. His interest in the show. C. His passion for reptiles. D. His desire for relaxation. 5. What happened after Bull entered the enclosure? A. She nearly sank in the pool. B. She deeply fell into danger. C. She saved Donnie from Darth’s mouth. D. She was unable to take Darth out of water. 6. Which of the following can best describe Donnie? A Careful and heroic. B. Loyal and determined. C. Considerate and optimistic. D. Adventurous and powerful. 7. What would be the best title for the text? A. An alligator fighter. B. A childhood dream. C. A visit to a reptile center. D. An alligator trainer’s day. C 5. B 6. A 7. 根据第一段“But the party was being held at Scales and Tails Utah, a reptile center in suburban Salt Lake City. Since childhood, Donnie has been crazy about reptiles. So, he went with his wife.(但是派对是在犹他州的鳞片和尾巴中心举行的,那是盐湖城郊区的一个爬行动物中心。Donnie从小就对爬行动物着迷,所以他和妻子一起去了。)”可知,Donnie去犹他州的鳞片和尾巴中心是因为他对爬行动物的热爱。故选C。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Her hand slipped out from under Darth’s jaw and right into his mouth, and Bull was dragged into the pool.(她的手从达斯的下颚下滑,直接滑进了他的嘴里,Bull被拖进了水池里。)” 根据第四段“Sensing something was wrong, he threw open the glass door and climbed inside.(感觉到不对劲,他猛地推开玻璃门爬了进去。)”可知,Donnie很细心;根据第五段“Donnie did as he was told. When Darth finally eased his bite, Bull quickly pulled her hand out of his mouth and was helped by a bystander.(Donnie照做了。一两分钟后,他们等着。当Darth终于松开嘴时,Bull迅速把手从他嘴里抽出来,并得到了一名旁观者的帮助。)”可知,Donnie英勇地帮助了Bull,所以Donnie是细心且英勇的。故选A。 A。 C A roadside system that detects if a mobile phone is in use in a passing vehicle is being tested in the UK first. Despite being unable to tell whether the driver is using the phone, it is hoped that it will act as a warning to people who make calls behind the wheel. The technology picks up the phone signal in the vehicle and activates a roadside warning sign of a mobile phone with a red line through it. The system cannot tell the difference between a driver and a passenger on a bus, but to some degree it can warn drivers that they can be detected using their phones. Using a directional antenna (天线),the detector picks up radio waves produced by a phone handset, and measures the signal strength and length of them. When a signal is detected of duration (持续时间) long enough and signal strength strong enough to set off the system, the detector activates the warning sign. The detector is able to distinguish Bluetooth connections or hands-free devices which, when picked up, will prevent the activation. While this new system is no replacement for a police officer catching someone in the act, it could be enough to make some drivers think twice- and that has to be a positive step forward. However, just as technology has enabled the problem of drivers using mobile phones illegally, it can also be a big part of the solution in getting people to stop. Statistics from the devices will be shared with Norfolk Police, the county council said. The council said that enabling the system to record specific number plates could be a "future development". Using a mobile phone at the wheel is one of the four road crimes which can have horrible consequences if it causes a deadly or serious car crash. Law enforcement (执行) technology has been falling behind for a decade and not made any easier by motor producers that encourage users to plug in their phones even before driving. 8. Why is the roadside system used according to Paragraph 1? A. To send out cellphone signals to drivers. B. To detect drivers' illegal use of cellphone. C. To monitor people's use of phones while driving. D. To warm people against using pones while driving. 9. How does the detector of the roadside system work? A. It measures the length of the phone. B. It warns drivers with a phone in hand. C. It picks up radio waves from handsets. D. It activates the vehicle's Bluetooth system. 10. What does the text suggest drivers do with the road warning sign? A. Swift to Bluetooth while driving. B. Have a close watch of road signs. C. Avoid being picked up by detectors. D. Stop using a hands-free mobile phone. 11. What will the county council probably do in the future? A. Share the devices with the police. B. Make the system more advanced. C. Replace the police with the new system. D. Take steps to settle road safety problems. D 9. C 10. A 11. 根据文章第一段“Despite being unable to tell whether the driver is using the phone, it is hoped that it will act as a warning to people who make calls behind the wheel.(尽管无法判断司机是否在使用手机,但希望它能对开车打电话的人起到警告作用。)” 根据文章第一段“The technology picks up the phone signal in the vehicle and activates a roadside warning sign of a mobile phone with a red line through it.(该技术获取车辆中的电话信号并激活路边产生红线警告标志。)” 根据文章第二段“The detector is able to distinguish Bluetooth connections or hands-free devices which, when picked up, will prevent the activation.( 检测器能够区分蓝牙连接或免提设备,这些设备在拿起后会阻止激活。)” 故选A。 根据文章第三段“The council said that enabling the system to record specific number plates could be a "future development".(该委员会表示,允许系统记录特定车牌可能是“未来的发展”。)” B。 D One of my bad habits is saying “busy” when people ask me how I’m doing. Sometimes it’s because I actually am busy, but other times it’s because that’s what I think I’m supposed to say. That’s what important people say. That’s what people who get promoted say. But working long hours doesn’t drive better results. Never taking a vacation won’t lead to a promotion. So why are we so proud to talk about how busy we are all the time? In 2016, researchers from Columbia, Harvard, and Georgetown conducted a study to figure it out. They found busy people are perceived to be of high status, and interestingly, these status attributions are heavily influenced by our own beliefs about social mobility. In other words, the more we believe that one has the opportunity for success based on hard work, the more we tend to think that people who skip leisure and work all the time are of higher standing. That’s why we feel like we have to appear busy, and there’s a real perception that if someone is knee-deep in meetings, emails, and stress, then they’re probably a big deal. This culture of busyness is making it hard for employees to find work-life balance. According to a recent study, one in five highly engaged employees is at risk of burnout. Personally, I’m going to stop saying “busy” when people ask me how I am. It sounds self-righteous (自以为是的) and sets the wrong tone. Phrases like “I have limited access to email” and “I’ll respond as soon as I get back” sound like you’re being held against your will from working as opposed to making the most of your time off. By rejecting the myth that business equals worth, we free ourselves and others from exhaustion. True success isn’t about working harder; it’s about working smarter and finding balance. Let’s redefine what it means to be productive — and start valuing rest as much as effort. 12. How does the author introduce the topic in the first paragraph? A. By quoting famous people. B. By presenting statistical data. C. By comparing different opinions. D. By introducing personal experience. 13. Why do we tend to think that busy people are of high status? A. Our status can be attributed to our social mobility. B. We hold the belief that hard work leads to success. C. Our own opportunity for success never comes easily. D. We find few people of high status have time for leisure. 14. What does the underlined phrase “knee-deep in” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Bored with. B. Worried about. C. Fully involved in. D. Very interested in. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage? A. To advise employees on how to achieve work-life balance. B. To share his personal experience of overcoming a bad habit. C. To introduce a study on people’s attitude towards busyness. D. To argue against the culture of equating busyness with worth. D 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第一段“One of my bad habits is saying “busy” when people ask me how I’m doing. Sometimes it’s because I actually am busy, but other times it’s because that’s what I think I’m supposed to say. That’s what important people say.(我的一个坏习惯是当别人问我过得怎么样时,我总是说“忙”。有时是因为我真的很忙,但其他时候是因为我觉得我应该这么说。)”可知,作者在第一段中通过介绍个人经历来引入话题。故选D。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“They found busy people are perceived to be of high status, and interestingly, these status attributions are heavily influenced by our own beliefs about social mobility. In other words, the more we believe that one has the opportunity for success based on hard work, the more we tend to think that people who skip leisure and work all the time are of higher standing.(他们发现忙碌的人被认为地位很高,有趣的是,这些地位归因在很大程度上受到我们自己对社会流动性的看法的影响。换句话说,我们越相信一个人有机会通过努力工作取得成功,我们就越倾向于认为那些放弃休闲、一直工作的人地位更高。)”可知,我们倾向于认为忙碌的人地位很高是因为我们相信努力工作会带来成功。故选B。 【14题详解】 词句猜测题。根据上文“That’s why we feel like we have to appear busy(这就是为什么我们总觉得自己必须表现得很忙)”和下文“This culture of busyness is making it hard for employees to find work-life balance.(这种“忙碌文化”让员工很难找到工作与生活的平衡点。)” 根据最后一段“By rejecting the myth that business equals worth, we free ourselves and others from exhaustion. True success isn’t about working harder; it’s about working smarter and finding balance. Let’s redefine what it means to be productive — and start valuing rest as much as effort.(通过拒绝“忙碌等于价值”这一谬论,我们使自己和他人从疲惫中解脱出来。真正的成功不在于更努力地工作,而在于更聪明地工作并找到平衡。让我们重新定义什么是高效——并开始像重视努力一样重视休息。)”可知,作者写这篇文章的目的是反对将忙碌等同于价值的文化。故选D。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Being one of the most varied foods, eggs are a great addition to any diet. Almost as soon as the plane landed, his ordinarily shy personality was thrown away like a winter coat. 此处However作为转折,说明空格处与前文应是相反的情况,前文的“On family holidays, my father transformed himself. A. new新的;B. shy害羞的;C. serious严肃的;D. ordinary普通的,平常的。根据第一段的“On family holidays, my father transformed himself. Almost as soon as the plane landed, his ordinarily shy personality was thrown away like a winter coat. 故选A项。 根据前文“I was soon disappointed.” 说明真正面对“to land in a strange place and know nobody”这件事时,作者觉得是“尴尬的”。 A. change改变;B. hide隐藏;C. work工作,奏效;D. follow跟随。此处but表示转折,再根据前文的“ I was soon disappointed. It was embarrassing to land in a strange place and know nobody. 故选A项。 根据前文的“ It was embarrassing to land in a strange place and know nobody. But as the weeks went on, something started to shift.” A. invented发明;B. read阅读;C. shared分享;D. collected收集。 A. openness开放;B. duty责任;C. response回应;D. wealth财富。根据前文的“we and a few other women sat together and shared stories about our lives.” 故选A项。 A. began开始;B. continued继续;C. canceled取消;D. planned计划。根据前文的“It was  embarrassing to land in a strange place and know nobody. But as the weeks went on, something started to shift. ”可知,此处作者的旅程已进行了一段时间,且后文提到“I was surprised by the...of parts of myself that were long buried.”,可知此句描述的是作者的感受,因此应是随着旅程进行而产生的感受。 A. connection联系,联结;B. experience经历;C. period时期,阶段;D. difference不同。根据第一段的“On family holidays, my father transformed himself. Almost as soon as the plane landed, his ordinarily shy personality was thrown away like a winter coat. A. tiredness疲惫;B. lightness轻松;C. fairness公平;D. goodness善良,美德。 There was a lightness about him as he chatted to strangers on the beach, inviting them to join us for dinner.” A. break分解,打破;B. change改变;C. end结束;D. fan扇,吹。 36. Her tiny hands gripped his delivery jacket while their bicycle sped toward the fifth delivery of the evening. The frozen pavement shone dangerously under streetlights. “Almost there, little star,” Leo whispered. His breath formed white clouds that dissolved into the night. Lily pressed her face against his back, her steady breathing reminding him of weekend mornings when his wife used to sing nursery rhymes in their sunlit kitchen. If only she hadn’t left them in the accident eight months ago! These hard months had left deep lines around his eyes. Workers in the daycare center frowned at his dirty uniform; babysitters asked for more than he could pay. Every evening, he had to take her along in a seat made from old bike parts and his wife’s bag. Her childish whispers of “Papa hurry” gave him the strength to go forward. His helmet slipped sideways, its broken strap scratching his frozen ear, while he balanced the takeout boxes. The delivery app buzzed: “Order 307 delayed — 15-minute warning.” The bright red text burned his eyes. His heart sank-three complaints this week, each costing him $15. He sped up, tires slipping on dirty snow. A loud horn screamed — a truck ran too close, its wind pulling Lily sideways. Leo turned sharply, the bike sliding like a wild horse. Time froze. Wet leaves shone under headlights as the tires lost control. He twisted mid-fall, protecting Lily with his body as they slid across the road. He felt burning pain reaching his shoulder with his right elbow pounded heavily onto the ground. The takeout bag swung wildly. Sauce splashed across his uniform like melted chocolate. Lily’s terrified scream pierced the night. “Mama’s watching,” he choked, wiping tears from her face, but his left arm shook too badly to push them up. Para 1: “OMG! Are you ok?” A woman’s voice cut through the chaos. Through blurred vision, Leo saw a pair of boots stop beside them. The stranger, knelt down, her red overcoat spreading like a rose on the pavement. She pressed a silk scarf to Leo’s bleeding elbow while checking Lily’s shaking legs and then helped them up. “My daughter’s about her age,” she said softly. When Lily whispered “Mama,” the woman’s eyes softened. “You’re doing this alone, aren’t you?” He responded with a nod. Out of sympathy for him, she decided to offer a hand. She connected him to a program aiding single parents. The program offered care for kids when the parents were not available. During Leo’s evening deliveries, caregivers taught Lily nursery rhymes in a room painted with sunflowers, her tiny hands molding clay while his repaired bike carried meals across town. His phone received photos of Lily napping under a quilt, her cheeks rosy against doggie-dot pillows. As winter winds cut the streets, he pedaled steadily, knowing Lily was warm and sound in the cosy room thanks to those angelic helpers. 词汇激活 行为类 ①跪下:knelt down/sink to one’s knees ②按压:press/apply pressure to ③点头回应:respond with a nod/nod in reply 情绪类 ①同情:sympathy/compassion/pity ②多亏了:thanks to/by grace of 【点睛】【高分句型1】When Lily whispered “Mama,” the woman’s eyes softened. D. D One of my bad habits is saying “busy” when people ask me how I’m doing. D To argue against the culture of equating busyness with worth. Being one of the most varied foods, eggs are a great addition to any diet.
