Math had never been something I was good at since middle school.Classes became harder in high
school, and I was even further from a math teacher's dream student. So at the start of my freshman year,I
had an aversion to math.It wasn't that I didn't want to do well, but simply that I didn't think I was able to
do well."I can't"became my state of mind in all things related(to math.
However,I was soon to learn that"I can't"was not a choice in Mr.A's class.
Mr.A always greeted us with open arms as he said,"Welcome!Smile! It's a great day to be alive!"It
was clear that Mr.A had a true passion()not only for math but for teaching. If Mr.A ever experienced
bad days in life,he never showed it.Mr.A greeted us with that same smile every day.He encouraged each
student,from the top achiever to the"I can't"student.
I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself.Being in Mr.A's
presence made me feel good,as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed,I spent increasingly
more time on my homework, and I met with Mr.A weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it
became"cool"to have lunch and talk with Mr.A.We didn't know it at the time, but he was changing our
attitudes.
Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn't become a straight-A math student,my
hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly began to climb. There were hard times,of course.
Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr.A kept reminding me,"Kate,
smile! It's a great day to be alive!"
24.What does the underlined word"aversion"in paragraph 1 probably mean?
A.Interest.
B.Responsibility.
C.Dislike
D.Misunderstanding.
25.What first made the author look forward to math class?
A.Mr.A's attitude.
B.Her interest in math.
C.Her friends'encouragement.
D.The top achievers in her class.
26.How did the author feel about her talk over lunch with Mr.A?
A.It was straight.
B.It was awkward.
C.It was challenging.
D.It was impressive.

27.How did the author change in math?
A.She made slow progress.
B.She fell in love with math.
C.She became a straight-A math student.
D.She became comfortable with difficult math questions.

ChatGPT has quickly become popular around the world because of its advanced conversational
abilities. It can answer questions,do translations, give the main idea of articles and even write codes()
for a computer program. It is as good as a human inside a computer.
ChatGPT is making life very convenient.A time might come when people hand it some articles and it
makes a well-made report.That could,however,mean job losses.After all,if a computer program can write
codes, then it would make a programmer lose his job.
That may be a worry, but it is still too early to worry about that.ChatGPT has more advanced learning
features, but it still follows the same technological way.Its biggest advantage lies in the ability to turn
words into a language from an ocean of data, but it's still not that creative.AI can quickly draw a picture,
but that picture will be based on pictures that it has seen.It can also write books about the future, but the
books will be based on articles about the future that it has read.
In comparison,a human brain imagines the future and then tries hard to realize it.AI can imagine a
future with faster spaceships, but it can't imagine a world of space as humans can.
So there is no need to worry too much.By being creative there will be plenty of chances for humans to
win over AI.
28.What does the underlined word"It"in Paragraph 1 refer to?
A.The world.
B.ChatGPT.
C.A computer.
D.A program.
29.How is the fourth paragraph developed?
A.By telling stories.
B.By giving examples.
C.By listing numbers.
D.By making comparisons.
30.Which is the biggest advantage of ChatGPT according to the passage?
A.It has its own creativity.
B.It has conversational abilities.
C.It has more advanced learning features.
D.It has the ability to turn words into a language.
31.In which part can you find the passage in a newspaper?
A.Sports.
B.Science.
C.Education.
D.Business.

Travelers may have already heard of"regenerative tourism"along with the idea of sustainability(
)Whenever we travel-no matter where or how-we are influencing the environment and the world
surrounding us.While sustainable tourism takes positive steps toward limiting that footprint in order for us
to protect environments for future generations, regenerative tourism takes this idea one step further.
Regenerative tourism means"the idea that tourists should leave a place in better condition than it was
before".For example, when visiting a garden, each person plants a tree to further build the environment
instead of leaving no trace(痕迹).
In a way, regenerative tourism involves travelers to be active in their acts of sustainability.Another
great example of this is any act of clean-up.This is especially popular on major beaches and in parks where
there's always rubbish to pick up and waste to remove. While travelers certainly don't need to join in a
第4页共8页
community clean-up while on vacation (unless they want to),the idea of being involved is very much the
same.
Joining in regenerative tourism has personal and environmental benefits.Jeffrey Skibins,an associate
professor in entertainment and park management, says,"Many tourists report feelings of deep personal
satisfaction and a stronger connection to nature.Additionally,conservation()behaviors enable tourists
to develop life-long learning around these issues and continue these behaviors at home."
Regenerative means "to renew and revive",which is exactly what many travelers are doing to help
environments recover.Depending on where one plans to travel, there might be more ways to help than
originally realized.By further encouraging damaged environments to be renewed through travel rather than
being negatively impacted,we can slowly help to rebuild the world's most beautiful landscapes.
32.What is the aim of regenerative tourism?
A.To further improve the environment.
B.To limit the footprint of human beings.
C.To keep a place in its original condition.
D.To dramatically promote global economy.
33.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.Designing a bright future for our life.
B.Taking part in a community clean-up.
C.Renewing our ideas about environments.
D.Getting active in the acts of sustainability
34.What does Jeffrey Skibins think of regenerative tourism?
A.It makes travelers closely connected.
B.It gives personal satisfaction to travelers.
C.It leaves a short-term effect on tourists.
D.It helps tourists improve their learning ability.
35.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A.Regenerative tourism invites travelers to do their part
B.Travelling patterns make a difference to the environment
C.Conservation behavior enjoys its popularity among households
D.The idea of sustainability takes root in all enthusiastic travelers

How to make friends at a new school
Starting with a new school can be difficult.Everything seems to be different, and you don't even know
where to go for your own classes.36 However,if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some
of those strangers into friends.
Be yourself.
37 If some people don't accept you, they're not the kind of friends you need.People often
stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sport may make
friends with those who also run or swim a lot.
38
Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say
something that may make them feel sad,do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you.
Also, remember to be as helpful as possible!
Believe in yourself.
A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don't keep your eyes on the floor.Raise your
head and make eye contact(目光接触)with other people..39_Introduce yourself..Tell them your
name and where you're from.
Remember people's names.
You like it when people use your name, and so do other people.40 Besides, ask them in a
kind way if they have a nickname()You'd be surprised how often this might come in handy.
第5页共8页
A.People may become angry if you just begin by saying"Hey"each time.
B.Be friendly to others.
C.Join afterschool activities you like.

After eating, she went to the restroom.Without realizing, she had left her smartphone on the table.Five
minutes later, she came out and walked out of the cafe without looking back.
Mary saw the smartphone on the table. She quickly told Keith,"Keith, the girl left behind her
smartphone."
Keith looked at the smartphone. It took his breath away.It was one of the latest models on the market.
Keith had always wanted a smartphone. But his parents had told him,"You don't need one.You can always
use the house phone.”
He stared at it for some minutes. Then he said slowly,pausing()on every word,"I want to take
the smartphone..”
Mary could not believe her ears. She merely stared at her brother."You can't!What if the owner
comes to look for it?"
Having made the decision,Keith quickly grabbed the smartphone and put it in his schoolbag. Then,he
took Mary's hand and led her out of the cafe quickly.
Once back home,Keith locked his house door with trembling hands.Inside his room,he took out the
piece of beauty.Oh,he liked it so much. Now he had his own smartphone.Soon,he was polishing()it

Mary said,"Now you are lying too."Oh dear! When had Keith turned so dishonest?
Then Mary saw a house phone number on the plastic cover of the smartphone."This is the girl's phone

He couldn't fall asleep-every time he thought of the young lady's worried face, his
