It is the birth place of actor Cary Grant, home to the Suspension Bridge and one of England's great universities. Come and find out more about Bristol. Today and yesterday Bristol is a city with a great history, a place where antiquity (古代) and modernity sit hand in hand. It has a rich history as an important port and a centre for international maritime (海上的) trade. From as early as the 14th century it was a centre for international trade with Spain, Portugal, Iceland and others. Today, however, the main export is drum ‘n’ bass, which is a style of music made popular by home grown DJs like Roni Size and DJTrickv. Bristo’s music scene is a strong influence on the city's nightlife, shopping and fashion. City Districts The city's character is reflected in the diversity of the different districts. Clift on Village sits high on the hill above the city centre and the docks (码头). With its beautiful Georgian grand squares, Clift on is also home to fashionable students because it has lots of restaurants and comfortable cafes. On the other side of White Road lies University of Bristol. It’s also a favourite spot for students as there are nice pubs, sandwich bars and spoon cafes as well. Famous residents Banksy, the UK’s most well-known graffiti artist, is originally from Bristol. He uses deserted buildings and walls as his canvas and you can see his art showcased on a number of the city’s buildings. Bristol is also famous as the home of Drum ‘n’ Bass, and Massive Attack and DJs Roni Size were some of the pioneers of this movement. 1. The international trade with foreign countries is mentioned to show ______ . A. Bristol’s history B. Bristol’s beauty C. Bristol’s culture D. Bristol’s education 2. Why are fashionable students fond of visiting Clifton? A. Because they can do business. B. Because they can find ideal jobs. C. Because they can enjoy themselves. D. Because they can see famous residents. 3. In which section of a magazine does this passage probably appear? A. Top News. B. Campus Life. C. Science and Technology. D. Amazing World. B Growing up with movies such as “High School Musical” and “Grease”, which presented the ideal (理想的) high school friendships, we sometimes expect a perfect relationship. Indeed, some high school friendships can be real and simple; while still some high school students will meet a friend who causes trouble. With failed friendships come lessons and experiences learned for the future. You will know the influence after you leave high school. “I was always worried about what my friends thought about me. Sometimes my friends would make fun of what I wore or what I would do. I always tried to get along well with them, but I realized how happy I was once I stopped contacting them after high school,” said Elisha, Class of 2020. Most teens have not realized the big question when dealing with high school problems. In five years, will this still matter? It is hard looking at the big picture when the problems are in front of you, which is understandable. However, most teens need a moment to reflect (反思) and question if the problem matters in a long time. Briana, a high school teacher, said, “Now, I am in contact with two high school friends. I think the friendship experiences I had in high school shaped who I am because I learned to be open-minded and befriend all kinds of people. I learned to see people for who they are, not what they wear or who they play with. I learned most of all how to be a good friend.” High school is a small part of your life, but it has a huge influence on who you will become and where you will go. Friendships and relationships help shape who you are, whether they are good or bad. Lessons are brought, and lessons are learned. 4. Why did the author use the two movies in the first paragraph? A. To introduce the topic of the passage. B. To explain what a high school friendship is. C. To recommend these two movies to readers. D. To show the diversity of high school friendship. 5. What did Elisha think of her “friends”? A. They made her feel blue. B. They cared about her behavior. C. They got along well with her. D. They were always worried about her. 6. Why did Briana think her friendship experiences shape her? A. She learned to play with her friends. B. She learned to make different friends. C. She learned to shape her friends’ minds. D. She learned to wear just like her friends. 7. What’s the passage mainly about? A. Failed friendships made teens worried. B. Good friendships greatly influenced teens. C. High school friendships help to shape teens. D. Friendships are difficult for teens to deal with. At this time of year, thousands of British tourists are heading to the Austrian ski slopes (斜坡), attracted not just by the snow tracks (跑道) but also by the pretty villages, great food and drink, and, the Austrian lifesaver for parents, the kid-friendly hotel. Confusing, then, a recent survey by InterNations on Expat-Friendly Places has put Austria the worst country in the world (well, out of 53 countries) for “local friendliness”. As a frequent visitor to Austria, I must admit being confused. I’ve had many experiences there, but none that I would call the least bit unfriendly. Take my most recent trip there last weekend for example. Vienna in winter is beautiful and, if you’re lucky, you may have some snow — despite which, the transport systems such as buses and subways continue to work well. Food markets here open early and I began at the most famous, the Naschmarkt, with its two main streets, one for restaurants, the other for food stalls (摊位). But instead of the expected rude traders, I was surrounded by encouraging smiles! So far, so friendly. So, if Austrians are funny, how can they also be unfriendly? This is the place, after all, where they invented a best-selling chocolate known as Mozart balls (after their most outstanding composer), ballet for horses (at Vienna’s Spanish Riding School), and the favourite night-time snack of sausages. Did I say formal? That is, perhaps, at the root of the misunderstanding. Austrians like going to balls and wearing their traditional clothes. They are super polite and helpful to lost tourists. That’s not to say you can’t anger an Austrian. For example, being late is not to be allowed. My point is that you get the best of the two countries closest to them: Everything works (as in Germany) and they like to have fun (as in Italy). And I’m not alone in my opinion. According to the Global Liveability Index, Vienna is the best city to live in on the planet and it has worn that particular crown for the past 10 years. Perhaps, in this situation, the statistics (统计学) have rather missed the point. 8. Why are British tourists mentioned in paragraph 1? A. To show they are the friendliest tourists. B. To interest us with a confusing situation. C. To introduce the topic of tourism. D. To compare them with Austrians. 9. What happened to the author at the Naschmarkt? A. He came across polite traders. B. He lost his way at the food markets. C. He was inspired to smile even in winter. D. He was confused by the transportation systems. 10. What do we know about Austrians? A. They are serious. B. They like to be on time. C. They are unfriendly. D. They like formal uniforms. 11. What’s the author’s attitude towards Austrian’s bad name? A. Indifferent. B. Favorable. C. Unclear. D. Opposed. Even small amounts of physical activity, like quick walking, may greatly lower the risk of depression, according to a new data analysis (分析). Recommended levels of exercise in the United States, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), include aerobic (有氧的) activity at proper levels for 2.5 hours a week, along with a workout of all major muscle (肌肉) groups twice a week. Or, a person can choose a high-level aerobic exercise, such as running, for 1.25 hours each week, along with the same amount of strength training. Middle-to-high-level exercise is good for us, according to the CDC. It improves sleep, lowers blood pressure, protects against heart disease and diabetes, reduces stress, improves mood, and fights anxiety and depression. But in today’s busy world, many people find it difficult to fit in a jog or a visit to the gym. Add depression to the mix, and the motivation for exercise drops even further, experts say. The analysis, published Wednesday in the journal JAMA Psychiatry, looked at 15 studies involving over 190,000 people to determine how much exercise was needed to reduce depression. Adults who did activities equal to 1.25 hours of quick walking per week had an 18% lower risk of depression compared with those who did not exercise, the study said. Moving up to an “activity amount equal to 2.5 hours of quick walking per week was associated with 25% lower risk of depression,” the study authors said. The benefits were strongest when a person changed from being a couch potato to adding movement to the day, the study said. However, exercising over the recommended levels did not provide any additional benefits. “Our findings therefore have important new implications for health doctors making lifestyle recommendations, especially to inactive individuals who may perceive the current recommended target of exercise as unrealistic,” the authors wrote. A study in 2018 found similar results: People who exercised had about 43% fewer days of poor mental health. “Even just walking three times a week seems to give people better mental health than not exercising at all,” said study author Adam Chekroud, an assistant professor of psychiatry at Yale University. 12. Why does the writer use the figures in Paragraph 2? A. To provide different ways of exercise. B. To illustrate the benefits of doing exercise. C. To recommend the proper levels of exercise. D. To identify which exercise is better for health. 13. How do you understand the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3? A. Running may possibly add to depression. B. Depressed people are less willing to exercise. C. People tend to exercise more when depressed. D. Working out regularly helps increase motivation. 14. What does the analysis published in JAMA Psychiatry suggest: A. Over 190, 000 people suffer from poor mental health. B. 2.5 hours of quick walking per week is a must for adults. C. A couch potato benefits much when taking proper exercise. D. The recommended levels by CDC go for people of all ages. 15. Which of the following agrees with Adam Chekroud’s idea about exercise? A. Practice makes perfect. B. Rome wasn’t built in a day. C. Half a loaf is better than no bread. D. Where there is a will, there is a way. There is an English saying: ___16___ Until recently, few people took the saying seriously. A 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第一段“Growing up with movies such as “High School Musical” and “Grease”, which presented the ideal (理想的) high school friendships, we sometimes expect a perfect relationship. Indeed, some high school friendships can be real and simple; while still some high school students will meet a friend who causes trouble. (伴随着《High School Musical》和《Grease》等展现理想高中友谊的电影长大,我们有时会期待一段完美的关系。事实上,有些高中友谊真实而简单;但也有一些高中生会遇到带来麻烦的朋友。)”可知,作者提及两部电影是为了引出高中友谊这一主题。故选A项。 根据第二段“Sometimes my friends would make fun of what I wore or what I would do. I always tried to get along well with them, but I realized how happy I was once I stopped contacting them after high school, (有时候我的朋友们会嘲笑我的穿着或我做的事。我一直努力和他们好好相处,但高中毕业后停止联系他们,我才意识到自己有多开心,)”可知,这些“朋友”的行为让她不开心,即感到沮丧。故选A项。 根据第四段“I think the friendship experiences I had in high school shaped who I am because I learned to be open-minded and befriend all kinds of people. (我认为高中时期的友谊经历塑造了我,因为我学会了心胸开阔,与各种各样的人交朋友。)”可知,布里亚娜认为友谊经历塑造自己是因为她学会了结交不同的朋友。故选B项。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文特别是根据最后一段“High school is a small part of your life, but it has a huge influence on who you will become and where you will go. Friendships and relationships help shape who you are, whether they are good or bad. (高中是你人生中很小的一部分,但它对你将成为什么样的人、走向何方有着巨大的影响。无论友谊和关系是好是坏,它们都有助于塑造你。)”可知,本文通过几个事例论证了高中时代的友谊,无论好坏,能够帮助塑造青少年。所以文章核心是高中友谊有助于塑造青少年。故选C项。 At this time of year, thousands of British tourists are heading to the Austrian ski slopes (斜坡), attracted not just by the snow tracks (跑道) but also by the pretty villages, great food and drink, and, the Austrian lifesaver for parents, the kid-friendly hotel. B. Favorable. C. Unclear. D. Opposed. B 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段 “At this time of year, thousands of British tourists are heading to the Austrian ski slopes (斜坡), attracted not just by the snow tracks (跑道) but also by the pretty villages, great food and drink, and, the Austrian lifesaver for parents, the kid-friendly hotel. Confusing, then, a recent survey by InterNations on Expat-Friendly Places has put Austria the worst country in the world (well, out of 53 countries) for “local friendliness”.(每年的这个时候,成千上万的英国游客都前往奥地利的滑雪场,不仅被雪道所吸引,还被美丽的村庄、美味的食物和饮料所吸引,还有奥地利父母的救命稻草——适合儿童入住的酒店。 根据第二段 “But instead of the expected rude traders, I was surrounded by encouraging smiles!(但是,与预期的粗鲁商人相反,我被鼓励的微笑所包围!)” 故选A。 根据第四段中“That’s not to say you can’t anger an Austrian. For example, being late is not to be allowed.(这并不是说奥地利人不会生气。例如,迟到是不被允许的)”可知,奥地利人喜欢准时。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“My point is that you get the best of the two countries closest to them: Everything works (as in Germany) and they like to have fun (as in Italy). And I’m not alone in my opinion. According to the Global Liveability Index, Vienna is the best city to live in on the planet and it has worn that particular crown for the past 10 years. Perhaps, in this situation, the statistics (统计学) have rather missed the point.(我的观点是,你得到了离他们最近的两个国家最好的东西:一切都很好(就像在德国),他们喜欢玩得开心(就像在意大利)。 D。 Even small amounts of physical activity, like quick walking, may greatly lower the risk of depression, according to a new data analysis (分析). C 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第二段“Recommended levels of exercise in the United States, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), include aerobic (有氧的) activity at proper levels for 2. 5 hours a week, along with a workout of all major muscle (肌肉) groups twice a week. Or, a person can choose a high-level aerobic exercise, such as running, for 1. 25 hours each week, along with the same amount of strength training. 由第三段“Middle-to-high-level exercise is good for us, according to the CDC. It improves sleep, lowers blood pressure, protects against heart disease and diabetes, reduces stress, improves mood, and fights anxiety and depression. But in today's busy world, many people find it difficult to fit in a jog or a visit to the gym. 由第六段“The benefits were strongest when a person changed from being a couch potato to adding movement to the day, the study said. (研究表明,一个从懒散转变为每天增加运动的人能获取最大利益)”可知,懒散的人可以从锻炼中获益良多,故答案为C。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据尾段“Even just walking three times a week seems to give people better mental health than not exercising at all. (即使一周散步三次,似乎也比不锻炼更能改善人们的心理健康)”可知,亚当·切克罗德主张人们要去锻炼,哪怕仅仅是散步都比人们什么也不做强。由此推知,C项“半个面包总比没有面包好”符合亚当·切克罗德对锻炼的观点。故答案为C。 二、七选五(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项 There is an English saying: ___16___ Until recently, few people took the saying seriously.
