① Dog lovers agree that dogs are loyal (忠诚的) and loving pets. They greet their owners excitedly and offer comfort during difficult times. Cats, however, are often seen as more independent (独立的). They may seem to show attention mainly when they want food or play. There is a funny saying. It says, “Dogs have owners, cats have employees (雇员).” This makes us wonder who chooses to become “a cat’s employee”.
② There are stereotypes (刻板印象) about pet owners. “Cat people” are often thought to be more independent and a little unusual, while “dog people” are seen as friendly and easy to stay with in our minds. Psychologist Sam Gosling from the University of Texas studied these ideas. The researcher (研究人员) found that cat owners liked spending time alone better. They were often more curious and creative. Dog owners, on the other hand, were usually more outgoing, energetic, relaxed and loyal.
③ ▲ They found users who posted pictures of dogs had more online friends and shared more happy feelings, like being proud and excited. Cat owners were more likely to be single and sometimes shared feelings of being tired or sad. However, they also showed more intellectual (智力的) interests. They liked to search more pages about books, TV shows, movies and fantasy stories.
④ It’s important to remember that there are also exceptions—some cat owners are very outgoing, and some dog owners are worriers.
⑤ People probably choose pets that match their personalities (性格). It makes sense for a quiet person to choose a cat, and an active person to choose a dog. But the change might go both ways. The pet might also shape the owner’s life. As Gosling notes, a shy dog owner might not become the life of the party, but their daily walks could lead to more conversations with neighbors.
29. What does the underlined sentence “Dogs have owners cats have employees.” mean?
A. Dogs and cats are both the most popular pets. B. Cats usually listen to their owners but dogs don’t.
C. Humans should work for both dogs and cats. D. Cats don’t depend on owners as much as dogs.
30. What did Sam Gosling find about cat owners?
A. They were more energetic in their daily life.
B. They were worried about almost all of the things.
C. They enjoyed staying alone and were more creative.
D. They liked staying with others and were more curious.
31. Which sentence is the most suitable for the blank “ ▲ ” in paragraph 3?
A Many people like sharing pet photos on social media.
B. Dogs and cats are the most ordinary pets for people.
C. Researchers also used social media to study the subject.
D. Social media is popular among young people nowadays.
32. Which idea may the writer agree with?
A. Pets and their owners can change each other.
B. Pets can not change their owners’ lives at all.
C. Those stereotypes about pet owners are correct all the time.
D. Dog owners are too busy walking dogs to talk with neighbors.

C
①Today, social media is very important in most teenagers’ lives. Apps like TikTok and WeChat change how young people make and keep friends. People talk a lot about this change. Does social media help or hurt teen friendships? The answer isn’t simple because it has both good and bad sides.
②Clearly, using social media has some good points. First, it makes staying in touch very easy. If a close friend moves to another school or city, you can still talk every day and see each other’s photos. It feels like the friend is not far away. Second, for quiet or shy students, talking online can make them feel safer and easier. They can think about what to say. This can sometimes help them be more confident (自信的) when talking in real life. Also, social media helps teens find groups that love the same things, like a game or music. This helps them make new friends from different places.
③However, we can’t ignore the problems social media brings, since they are really there. One big worry is that it can make teens compare (比较) with each other. People usually post the best parts of their lives—happy photos from parties or trips. When teens see these perfect posts, they may feel their own lives are boring or not good enough. This can make them sad or worried. Another problem is that texting (发消息) can cause misunderstandings. It’s hard to tell if someone is joking without seeing their face or hearing their voice. Worst of all, friendships can become all about getting more ‘likes’ and comments (评论). Teens might care more about popular posts than real talks with friends.
④So, what should we do? The key is to find a healthy balance. Social media is a tool, and we need to use it wisely. Teens should use it to help real-life friendships, not to take the place of them. It’s a good idea to set a time limit (限制) for using these apps every day. More importantly, spend more time on outdoor activities, hobbies and face-to-face talks with friends. Remember, a true friend is someone who cares about you and shares real moments, not just someone who gives you “likes”.
33. The meaning of the underlined word “ignore” is “________”.
A. understand clearly B. enjoy very much C. improve quickly D. pay no attention to
34. What does the writer suggest teenagers do in their daily life?
①set a time limit while using social media ②stop using their social media apps
③try to get more “likes” from online friends ④compare their schoolwork with others
⑤have more face-to-face talks with friends ⑥have a balance between social media and real life
A. ①④⑥ B. ①⑤⑥ C. ②③⑤ D. ②④⑤

Grown-ups (成年人) never understand anything on their own, and it is tiring for children to be always and forever explaining things to them. So then I chose another job and learned to fly airplanes. I lived my life alone, without anyone that I could really talk to, until I had an accident (事故) with my plane in the desert of Sahara six years ago. Something was wrong with my plane. As I had nobody else with me, I decided to try the difficult repairs all alone.
The first night, I went to sleep on the sand, a thousand miles from humans’ living places. I felt quite lonely. You can imagine my surprise, at sunrise, when I was awakened by a strange little voice. It said, “If you please, draw me a sheep!”
“What?” I shouted, jumping to my feet, completely surprised. I looked carefully all around me. I saw a most special small person, who stood there, looking at me seriously. He was hardly taller than a rosebush.
Before I could speak, he repeated, “Draw me a sheep!”
I had never drawn a sheep before, but I was so surprised and lonely that I did as he asked. I drew a simple sheep, but he shook (摇动) his head, “No, that one is sickly. Make another.” I tried again, but he said, “This one has too many horns (角). It’s not what I want.” I drew a third, and a fourth, until I grew tired. “I don’t know how to draw sheep any more,” I said, handing him a piece of paper with nothing on it. “Here’s a box. The sheep you want is inside it.”
To my surprise, his face lit up, “That’s just what I need! Does it eat a lot of grass?”
“Of course. Why do you ask?”
“Because where I live, everything is very small. I need a sheep that won’t eat up all my roses.”
Roses. The word made me think of the time I was six years old. I found a book named True Stories from Nature, and there was a picture of a huge snake swallowing (吞咽) an elephant. I showed it to grown-ups and asked if it made them scared. They said, “Why would a hat make us scared?” I explained (解释) it wasn’t a hat—it was a huge snake with an elephant inside. But they told me to stop talking about snakes and elephants. They said I should focus on my spelling and arithmetic (算术). That’s when I realized grown-ups never see the true meaning of things. I put away my drawing and decided not to explain anything to them any more.
The little prince pulled me back to the present, “Will you promise (承诺) the sheep won’t eat my roses?”
“I promise,” I said. And in that moment, I knew I had finally found someone I could talk to.
—Adapted from The Little Prince
37. What can we infer (推断) from the writer’s experience with grown-ups when he was six?
A. Grown-ups were better at understanding the true meaning of the picture.
B. Grown-ups were interested in the story about the snake and the elephant.
C. The writer’s drawing of the snake and the elephant made people scared.
D. Grown-ups cared more about children’s studies than the true meaning of things.
38. Why did the writer think he finally found someone he could talk to?
A. Because the little prince was good at drawing. B. Because the little prince could understand him.
C. Because the little prince lived in a place with roses. D. Because the little prince liked small animals, too.
39. Which is the correct order of what happened in the story?
①The writer met a little prince in the desert.
②The writer decided to try to repair his plane alone.
③The writer told the little prince the sheep was inside the box.
④ The writer slept on the sand and felt lonely on the first night in the desert.

Brouir began his trip on April 19. For over 120 days, he rode across mountains, rivers and wide fields in Europe and Asia. His journey was not only for fun, and it was also a dream he had kept for a long time—to build a closer connection (联系) with China.
The idea started last November, when Brouir came to Shanghai to visit his eldest son, who now lives in the city. Brouir joined a cycling event and was touched by the kindness of local riders. “That trip gave me the idea—why not ride all the way from Brussels to Shanghai?” he said.
To follow his idea of green travel, Brouir used a special solar tricycle. It had two motors (发动机) and four solar panels (面板).
29. What does the underlined sentence “Dogs have owners, cats have employees.” mean?
C They enjoyed staying alone and were more creative.
D. They liked staying with others and were more curious.
31. Which sentence is the most suitable for the blank “ ▲ ” in paragraph 3?
A. Many people like sharing pet photos on social media.
⑤have more face-to-face talks with friends ⑥have a balance between social media and real life
A. ①④⑥ B. ①⑤⑥ C. ②③⑤ D. ②④⑤
35. What is the article mainly about?
A. Why teens love social media and who uses it wisely.
B. Why teens love social media and how to choose its apps.
C. Social media’s good/ bad sides on teen friendships and wise use.
D. Social media’s good/ bad sides on friends and which apps to use.
36. What’s the structure of this passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2 ...)
A. ①/②③/④ B. ①②/③/④ C. ①/②/③④ D. ①②/③④
D
⑤The writer showed grown-ups the picture of a snake swallowing an elephant.
A. ②④①③⑤ B. ②①⑤④③ C. ⑤①②④③ D. ⑤②④①③
40. What is the best title for the story?
A. Meeting the Little Prince B. The Accident in the Desert C. The Art of Drawing Sheep D. Grown-ups and Drawings

A special event took place under the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai on August 30, 2025. Claude Brouir, a 63-year-old man from Belgium, arrived after riding more than 12,000 kilometers from Brussels on a solar tricycle (太阳能三轮车). People in Shanghai welcomed him warmly.
The tricycle also pulled a trailer (拖车) carrying his tent and daily things. With the help of the panels, he could climb hills without fuel. Along the way, he saw many beautiful places and often received help from strangers.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of China-EU relations (中欧建交50周年) which makes his arrival even more meaningful. Brouir said the busy streets and friendly people of Shanghai made him feel at home. “Coming here is not the end,” he smiled, “It is a new beginning.” At the ceremony, officials praised his spirit. They said Shanghai would always welcome friends from Europe.
