Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A.B.C and D.Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read. (A) Chinese state media has praised a viral video series telling the story of a jade teapot coming to life and fleeing the British Museum to make its way back home. The set of three short videos, entitled Escape from the British Museum, shows the teapot turning into a young woman in a green dress, who then engages a London-based Chinese journalist to help her reunite with her family. It appears to have struck a chord(弦) in China after first being released by independent vloggers on Douyin. By Monday evening, it had reportedly received more than 310 million views. The plot line taps into growing Chinese criticism of the British Museum after reports last month that more than 1,500 priceless objects, including gold jewelry, semi-precious stones and glass, were missing, stolen or damaged. In August the state media Global Times called for the return of Chinese artifacts from the museum"free of charge"in the wake of the controversy." The huge holes in the management and security of cultural objects in the British Museum exposed by this scandal have led to the collapse of a long-standing and widely circulated claim that 'foreign cultural objects are better protected in the British Museum',"it said. It strongly supported the video series for touching on a "powerful message"about the importance of cultural heritage and reflecting “Chinese people's desiring for the repatriation of the Chinese cultural relics." State broadcaster CCTV also gave the short films a glowing review saying:“We are very pleased to see Chinese young people are passionate about history and tradition. We are also looking forward to the early return of Chinese artifacts that have been displayed overseas." The museum scandal made headlines around the world and reawakened earlier demands by the Chinese media to restore the country's relics. The new three-part show has triggered a wave of nationalism among viewers, with many praising the creative plot that reduced them to tears by showing how the teapot experienced the happiness of returning to China to see pandas and watch a flag-raising ceremony on Tiananmen Square. 56.What excuse does Britain give for keeping other nations' cultural objects in its museum? A. It has taken possession of these objects by all lawful means. B. These objects are safer and taken better care of in its museum. What does the underlined word"repatriation"(Para.3) probably mean? A. Repair. B. Reflection. C. Reserve. D. Return. 58. Which of the following can we infer from the passage? A. China had already demanded the restoration of its cultural relies before the scandal. B. The museum's awful management and security systems are irrelevant in the scandal. C.The Britain Museum is under pressure to return the cultural relics to China sooner or later. D. A London-based Chinese journalist has contributed a lot to the viral three-part video series. 59.What's the purpose of the passage? A. To appeal to Britain to return China's cultural objects. B. To introduce a viral video series about a fleeing jade teapot. C. To arouse readers' concern about Chinese cultural objects at home and abroad. (C) The placebo effect is a well-known example of the brain's power over the body, allowing people who are in pain to improve if they are led to believe they are being treated. The opposite, however, is also possible: patients who believe that procedures will cause them to suffer ill effects can make themselves worse. The roots of this anti-placebo, or nocebo, effect are difficult to identify. But in a paper in Health Psychology Review, researchers in Australia have pooled the available evidence and ranked the contributing factors. Misinformation on social media seems to come near the top. In fact, what psychologists call social learning--the drawing of inferences from the views of others--was found to be as powerful as lived experience, and more influential than information given by a doctor. This is a problem, says Cosette Saunders, a psychologist at the University of Sydney and lead author of the study. Social learning may not be able to spread infection or cause new disease, but it can drive harmful side-effects. And managing these side-effects costs health systems around the world billions of dollars. Take cancer treatment. In recent years, new drugs have emerged to control the side-effects experienced by people receiving chemotherapy. But Dr Saunders says that vomiting and nausea have not come down in cancer patients by as much as expected. Social learning may be responsible."They'll say, their mother-in-law had chemo twenty years ago and she was vomiting every single day,"Dr Saunders says. "Those kinds of long-held beliefs are influencing them now, even though the medical landscape has changed." Though the impact of the placebo effect has been recognized for centuries, work on the nocebo effect is much newer. Only in the past two decades have many scientists been convinced of its real-world impact, helped by studies that demonstrate how a negative attitude can lead to physical symptoms such as increased heart rate and physiological arousal. The conclusions of the Australian analysis are clear about the power of social learning. But, says Dr Saunders, it is hard to know how much of these effects are down to social-media use as opposed to, say, chatting with friends at the pub. Dr Saunders’ lab is one of many now trying to find ways to minimize the damage. One possibility is to balance warnings of nasty side-effects with positive proof from patients who had no problems. If she finds something that works, she'll pass it on. 63. What can we learn about social learning from the passage? A. It causes the health systems to fail. B. It affects patients less than doctors' advice. C. It is as impactful as people's lived experience. D. It occurs when misinformation spreads on social media 64. Cancer treatment is mentioned in Para. 4 to show A. vomiting and nausea are common negative outcomes B. the nocebo effect can lead to harmful results C.new drugs are ineffective in controlling the side effects D. the medical industry has undergone great changes 65. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage? A. The impact of the nocebo effect is long-established. B. The nocebo effect is more powerful than the placebo effect. C.Labs have found ways to ease the damage of social learning. D. Social learning may affect people negatively via informal interactions 66. What's the passage mainly about? A. The key contributor to the nocebo effect. B. The function of doctors' advice in healthcare. C. The clue to the nocebo effect in medical research D. The role of social media in spreading misinformation. Section C(8分) Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in each blank with a proper sentence given in the box. Each sentence can be used only once. Note that there are two more sentences than you need. A. Most of them say that gum disease is a risk factor for heart disease and other diseases that affect blood vessels. B. But did you know that the health of your gums may also affect your likelihood of developing heart disease? C. The right type of exercise in the right quantities lowers systemic inflammation, while too much of the wrong kind increases it. D. Certainly, brushing and flossing are no substitute for exercise and a healthy diet. E. But many in the medical field agree that psycho-social stress, activity level, and genetic elements may also contribute. F.And it turns out that the same types of bacteria often lead to inflammation in both diseases. You've probably heard a list of factors that put you at risk for heart disease:smoking, poor diet, lack of exercise and so on. (67)_______ More than 120 studies have investigated the link between gum(牙龈) disease and heart disease.(68) _______ This means that people with gum disease often develop heart disease but that gum disease doesn't necessarily cause heart disease. Doctors and scientists have proposed a number of possible reasons for this connection. One common factor is inflammation(炎症), which occurs when the body senses a threat and sends white blood cells to attack it. This leads to painful swelling, which is the main symptom of gum disease. While inflammation hasn't been shown to cause heart disease, it often accompanies it.(69)_______ So what does this mean for your health? Since the role of gum disease in causing heart disease isn't certain, don't assume taking care of your teeth will protect your heart.(70)_______ But keeping your mouth healthy and avoiding gum disease are still good goals to pursue. They'll spare you pain and high dental bills and keep your dazzling smile perfect. This research does mean that if you have gum disease, you should get your heart checked. This is especially true if you are at risk of heart disease for other reasons, such as smoking. IV. Summary Writing(10分) 71.Directions:Read the following passage.Summarize the main idea and the main point(s)of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible. How to Be a Successful Team Leader? Every well-organized team needs to have an outstanding leader with specific skills. Sometimes the leader's abilities can come to affect the whole team. Although we students are still young, it's never too early to cultivate leadership skills. A team consists of both leaders and followers. Neither side can exist and work effectively without the other. What is essential to the role of leader is the ability to unite the whole team. A great leader enables their team to achieve a common goal through the giving of clear directions and support. Meanwhile, everyone on a team also desires personal success, so a balance can be hard to strike. If a leader doesn't have fierce determination, the followers will lose their confidence and things will not be done well. What's more, a successful and charming leader ought to be able to handle interpersonal relationships well. They should be honest, fair, objective and impartial(公正的)when it comes to both rewards and punishments. These kinds of leaders are trustworthy, and thus, the working atmosphere will only come to be improved. They are role models who can have a strong influence on the whole team. To become a powerful leader at school, students have to take the initiative in connecting with their fellow students. Good communication skills allow people to build good relationships, which is an essential part of being a good leader. If you find it hard to express your ideas clearly to those who you collaborate with, it may be rather difficult for you to be a good leader. It's a well-known fact that, whatever field you wish to work in, leadership skills are necessary for anyone who desires to have a successful career. So it's never too early to train yourselves as promising future leaders. V.
