Passage 06
(24-25九年级上·广西河池·期末)
Jokes made by AI lack (缺乏) creative thinking. It seems you can ask AI programs anything, and they’ll give you an answer. So, can they tell jokes? This question was raised by UK comedian (喜剧演员) Karen Hobbs in one of her shows in June. Instead of the usual jokes she created, Hobbs told jokes written by Chat GPT. The process made her nervous.
When Hobbs asked Chat GPT for a joke, it gave one about a man joking about getting bored with his shopping-obsessed (痴迷于购物的) girlfriend. Even when she asked to tell it from a woman’s perspective (视角), it was still a shopping-obsessed girlfriend but told in the first person.
It’s no surprise that many jokes by AI come from a man’s perspective, as men are much more common in comedy. The BBC said that AI storytelling can only create stories depending on what is already there.
A good joke in real life can always change depending on the audience’s reaction (反应). This is a skill that often leads comedians to improvise (即兴创作). That’s something that AI can’t do for now.
For example, in improvisation, comedians don’t make preparations. They depend only on their natural reactions to the audience.
However, that could change. Research is already being done to give AI a greater understanding of the world around it, which makes the future of AI jokes still uncertain.
26.How did Hobbs feel when she told jokes created by ChatGPT in June?
A.Relaxed. B.Excited. C.Nervous.
27.Who is more common in comedy according to the passage?
A.Women. B.Men. C.Children.
28.What is AI unable to do according to the passage?
A.AI can’t create jokes from woman’s perspective.
B.AI can’t create stories depending on the existing (现存的) ones.
C.AI can’t improvise jokes like humans.
29.How will the future of AI jokes be in the writer’s opinion?
A.Surprising. B.Uncertain. C.Thankful.
30.What’s the passage mainly talking about?
A.AI jokes are lack of creative thinking.
B.The future of AI jokes.
C.AI jokes are popular.
Passage 07
(24-25九年级上·广西柳州·期末)
How are typhoons (台风) or hurricanes (飓风) named? The practice of naming these storms has a long history. Before the 20th century, they were named by the time they appeared or the place where they landed. For example, the hurricane that destroyed Galveston in 1900 is remembered as the Great Galveston Hurricane.
The practice of giving storms personal names appears to start from Clement Wragge. He was an Australian meteorologist (气象学家). In the 1890s, he named storms after women, story characters and so on. The modern system of using personal names developed during World War II. At that time, people began using women’s names. Short and quickly understood, names were easier to send by radio and easier to remember if there was more than one storm in a given area. In 1953, the system was made formal. And men’s names were added to the list in 1979.
How are storm names picked today? A special group of the World Meteorological Organization (世界气象组织) keeps lists of names for storms. The names on the list must be short, special, and have something to do with their cultural and geographic areas. For the Atlantic basin (盆地), there are six lists of 21 names each. If there are more than 21 named storms, Greek letters are used. For the Western Pacific/ South China Sea basin, names on the lists are given by countries. The lists recur yearly. But if a hurricane or typhoon is especially destructive (破坏性的), that name will not repeat again, such as Katrina (2005), Sandy (2012), Haiyan (2013), Meranti (2016), Harvey (2017), Irma (2017), and Michael (2018).

(24-25九年级上·广西南宁·期末)
①Nowadays, there is more and more rubbish in the sea. And the sea environment is seriously polluted. Common ways of cleaning sea rubbish have high costs, and they may hurt fish. These problems can be successfully solved by a sea rubbish cleaning robot called Sea Sweeper 1000. It looks like a lantern fish from the outside.
②The robot fish was invented by a little inventor named Lainey and an artist named Lottie Smith. Inside, it has two “stomachs”. They are used to store, recycle and burn rubbish.
③The left stomach will be used to burn down rubbish and create energy for the robot to keep running. And the things left after burning will be divided into small parts, and then placed into the bags on the robot’s back. And the right stomach can store rubbish that can be recycled. When it gets full, rubbish will be placed in the bag in the robot’s tail. Once the bag is full, the robot will come back.
④The lantern above the robot’s head has a sensor (传感器) and a camera. The sensor helps avoid taking in fish. But if the robot does take in small fish, don’t worry. The space between its teeth is big enough for them to swim out. And the camera can send back photos to its user when there is rubbish. Then the user can know if the rubbish should be recycled or burned.
⑤Although there are still some parts that need to be improved, with the robot’s help, we can protect the sea environment and create a better future for human beings.

A US high school with only 200 students is producing some of the world’s best technology.
Students at this school made cars with improved fuel efficiency (燃油效率) and other inventions, too. And now, the students are designing (设计) a washing machine for outer space. They hope it will be accepted by NASA (美国国家航天局) or us.

Passage 12
(23-24九年级上·广西来宾·期末)
Confucianism (儒家思想) has been followed by Chinese people for more than two thousand years.
To help people understand how to behave towards others, Confucianism teaches the Five Constants (五常). These are ren, yi, li, zhi and xin. They are general virtues (美德) around the world. The most important two are ren and li.
Ren is the feeling of care and love we should have for others. Confucius explained ren could best be understood as loving others. He is famous for teaching people “What you do not want done to yourself , do not do to others”. It is quite similar to what is known in the West as the Golden Rule (treat others as you wish to be treated).
While the meaning of ren is easy to understand, li is a little harder to express. It can be thought of as duty or even respect. Generally, li is the way we should connect with people in our everyday life. In Confucian writings, discussions about li include the proper way to drink tea and how to remember ancestors (祖先). While ren is mostly about our opinions and feelings, li is about how we express our opinions and feelings towards others and towards the world around us.
Perhaps the most well-known Confucian virtue is xiao. This is the duty children have to their parents. Xiao means loving, respecting, obeying and taking care of one’s parents in their old age. In Confucianism, xiao is important for a harmonious (和谐的) society. Without it, the whole world would fall into a mess (乱七八糟).

(24-25九年级上·广西南宁·期末)
When I was a teenager, I always did some sports with my friends. One afternoon, my friend Jim and I found an old basketball. We went to a playground for a game of one-on-one.
At the time, Jim was taller than me. He was also better at basketball. I fell behind soon. So I drove hard to the basket, but I missed! The ball bounced off the rim (从篮筐弹回). Just as I was about to catch it, I saw an elbow (手肘) above my face. As Jim caught the ball, his elbow came down hard, right to my eye. I saw stars everywhere. The pain was terrible. Jim kept saying “sorry” over and over again. Hearing his words, I forgave (原谅) him and laughed through the pain. I spent the next few days walking around with a black eye. But it was worth it. I get a laugh whenever I tell the story and joke about Jim’s elbow of death. This experience lets me know that small accidents or problems in life can usually be the start of fun memories and good lessons.
In our life, we may get “an elbow to the eye” sometimes. For example, things don’t work as we plan. Our ups become downs. When this happens, we’d better face it with laughter and forgiveness. In this way, we can turn our pain to joy and we can learn and grow.

Mr. Smith was sorry about John’s poor health. He wanted his friend to get better, and then he painted a leaf.
Over the next few days, it rained heavily, but the last leaf on the tree held on firmly (坚固地). Every day, John would look out and see the same leaf on the tree.
One day, the doctor came in and said John’s condition was improving. John said to Sue, “I’ve realized that life is hard, but I shouldn’t give up. That leaf has stayed on that tree for so long. It has taught me to live!”

In the past, asking local people for directions was the best way to find your way. They knew not only the way, but also traffic patterns and interesting places to visit. Today, technology offers new ways, such as online driving-directions and smartphones with navigation (导航) apps, so asking others for directions has become unnecessary.
In the past few years, I haven’t had a chance to travel or ask for directions. But yesterday, when driving to another city, I lost my way. With my phone dead and no navigation in my car, I had to stop and ask for help.
I saw an old man coming out of a house and I asked if he knew the way to the city. At first, he was cautious, but when I explained my situation, he relaxed and gave advice. He warned me of the exit (出口) that could be easily missed and suggested some places to have lunch. Then we said goodbye and I went on my way.
Finally, I arrived at my hotel. Even though it rained heavily, I felt wonderful. It is nice to know that a stranger really would like to spend time helping me. Sometimes, when you try to solve a problem in a traditional way, you might achieve something unexpected.

【答案】26.C 27.B 28.C 29.B 30.A
【导语】本文主要围绕AI创作的笑话展开,讲述了AI笑话的现状、问题及未来可能性。
26.细节理解题。根据“Instead of the usual jokes she created, Hobbs told jokes written by Chat GPT. The process made her nervous.”可知,Hobbs没有讲自己创作的常规笑话,而是讲了ChatGPT写的笑话。这个过程让她很紧张。故选C。

29.观点态度题。根据“However, that could change. Research is already being done to give AI a greater understanding of the world around it, which makes the future of AI jokes still uncertain.”可知,但情况可能会改变。目前已有研究让AI更好地理解周围世界,这使得AI笑话的未来仍不确定。故选B。
30.主旨大意题。根据“Jokes made by AI lack creative thinking.”可知,本文开篇提出这一观点,后续内容都围绕此观点展开。故选A。
根据语篇内容,选择最佳选项。

At the time, Jim was taller than me. He was also better at basketball. I fell behind soon. So I drove hard to the basket, but I missed! The ball bounced off the rim (从篮筐弹回).
