I firmly believe life skills classes are absolutely necessary for students. Initially, these classes fill a gap in traditional education. Subjects like cooking, budgeting, and basic home repairs are rarely taught in regular lessons, but they are essential for independent adult life. For example, learning to manage money helps us avoid financial troubles later. Secondly, life skills boost confidence. Mastering practical tasks, such as sewing a button or fixing a broken lamp, makes us feel capable of handling real-life challenges. In short, life skills classes prepare us for the future beyond exams. Schools should definitely include them in the curriculum. Just when I thought the trip would be unbearable, something unexpected happened. We were driving through a remote stretch of countryside when a deer darted out from the woods. I slammed on the brakes instinctively, and the car skidded sharply on the wet road before coming to a halt. My heart raced as I stared at the deer, which stood frozen for a second before vanishing into the trees. When I finally calmed down, I realized the car wouldn’t start — the engine just sputtered and died. We were in the middle of nowhere, with no cell phone signal. I sighed, feeling helpless, but to my surprise, my brother didn’t snap at me like I expected. Instead, he got out of the car and knelt down to check the engine, saying, “Let’s see what’s wrong.” Still trembling from the accident, I realized he was holding my hand. His palm was warm, and his grip was firm — a gesture I hadn’t felt from him in years. “It’s gonna be okay,” he said softly, his voice free of the usual irritation. We worked together for over an hour: he popped the hood and checked the wires, while I fetched tools from the trunk and held a flashlight for him. When the engine finally roared to life, we both laughed in relief. On the rest of the drive, we talked more — about our favorite childhood memories of playing in the mountains, about the things we’d missed while living apart. By the time we reached my university, the tension was gone. As I got out of the car, he hugged me and said, “Call me if you need anything.” That trip didn’t just get me to college; it brought my brother back to me. 1. M: Look at Americans, we speak the same language, but they are much more open. And you see it when Americans travel, they speak with strangers, often on the train. M: Not completely, you know what they say, “An Englishman’s home is his castle. It’s really difficult to get inside.” W: Yeah, NY also mentions it being private. Janice was turning 21 years old. Originally, she wanted to go to Las Vegas to celebrate. A lot of people go there for their 21st birthday because in the United States you can legally drink at 21. However, Janice decided not to go because she wanted to save money to buy a new car. Janice decided that she just wanted to go to a nice restaurant with her friends. Janice’s birthday was on a Tuesday. When she and her friend Austin met up at work, she thought he would wish her a happy birthday, but he didn’t. Austin had known her for years and he would always remember her birthday. Janice tried to remind him indirectly. “I wonder what day today is,” she said. “Just a Tuesday, nothing special.” Janice was upset, ignoring him during work. When Janice got home after work, her friend Liza called her and asked her to open the door. “I don’t want to go out anymore,” Janice said. “Can you just open the door? We’re already here,” Liza said. Janice opened the door. “Surprise!” her friends yelled. There was a lovely pet dog in Kate’s arms. A A Brogdale Collections Garden Pass offers a unique and enriching experience for nature and fruit enthusiasts. After the first excitement came a dilemma. We were proud of our research, but the images in our article were black-and-white graphs(图表), intended to communicate data accurately. We considered enlarging one of those graphs for the cover — maybe adding colorful lines? — and realized we’d never seen any journal cover so boring. That’s when I thought of taking micrographs of our microbes(微生物). I spent two days preparing and taking what I believed were amazing images. However, my co-authors hated them. They questioned the microbe’s appearance, and thought the photo made it look dead. In the end, we told the journal we had nothing. Recently, I thought about that lost cover opportunity when learning about Fenice Frankel, a research scientist, who has made a name for herself by helping scientists improve their work with pictures that communicate science. My teammates and I had argued over the photo’s aesthetics (美学) without ever stopping to ask what the photo was supposed to communicate. The pretty pictures I recommended didn’t really contribute to a reader’s understanding of our research. “All these talented people in their labs,” Frankel confirmed, “have no idea what they’re doing.” Thankfully, scientists in and around Frankel’s department know her services well. Researchers send Frankel their figures, and she explains how to improve them. If a graph has too many colors that take attention away from the important part, for example, make the less important parts a lighter color. If readers are supposed to compare side-by-side graphs with similar axes(坐标轴), put both sets of data on one graph. “It’s not about pretty pictures,” she says. “It’s really about communication — that’s my whole thing.” In Frankel’s dream world, every university would teach graphical communication as part of regular training. After all, she says, many campuses have writing requirements for scientists, “but no one emphasizes visual understanding.” She’s right. We’re often asked to communicate our research visually, whether it’s in journal article figures, PowerPoint presentations, or poster sessions. However, many scientists treat anything beyond words and numbers as an afterthought. 24.How did the team respond to the journal’s request for a cover image? A.They refused immediately. B.They tried but gave up later. C.They struggled and sought help. D.They hesitated to take on the task. 25.What did the author realize about his pictures after knowing Frankel? A.They weren’t informative. B.They failed to show researchers’ talent. C.They were too artistic to be scientific. D.They couldn’t match the research theme. 26.What is the main focus of Frankel’s work? A.Meeting journal standards. B.Teaching how graphs are designed. C.Creating visually appealing graphs. D.Improving how data is shown in pictures. 27.What might both the author and Frankel agree with? A.Using visuals well is a must for scientists. B.Scientists explain their ideas poorly in journals. C.Communication skills should be taught to scientists. D.Scientists are more serious about numbers than words. 【答案】24.B 25.A 26.D 27.A 【解析】本文是一篇记叙文。 根据第二段中“We considered enlarging one of those graphs for the cover — maybe adding colorful lines? — and realized we’d never seen any journal cover so boring.(我们考虑把其中一张图放大作为封面——也许加上彩色线条?——然后意识到我们从未见过如此无聊的杂志封面。)”和第三段中“I spent two days preparing and taking what I believed were amazing images. However, my co-authors hated them. They questioned the microbe’s appearance, and thought the photo made it look dead. In the end, we told the journal we had nothing.(花了两天时间准备并拍摄了自认为非常出色的图像。 根据第四段作者反思“The pretty pictures I recommended didn’t really contribute to a reader’s understanding of our research(我推荐的漂亮图片并未真正帮助读者理解研究)”可知,图片缺乏信息价值。故选A。 26. 根据第四段中“...Fenice Frankel, a research scientist, who has made a name for herself by helping scientists improve their work with pictures that communicate science. 及第五段“Thankfully, scientists in and around Frankel’s department know her services well. Researchers send Frankel their figures, and she explains how to improve them. 以及第五段中Frankel所说的“It’s not about pretty pictures, ... This robot is useful because it takes over regular monitoring tasks from police officers. This lets the officers focus on other important jobs related to keeping the community safe. As a live monitoring system, it allows people at the communication center to watch the camera feeds in real time. The robot has four cameras built into it, and they keep recording all the time. So, wherever the robot goes, it collects all the visual and surrounding information. This makes sure it gathers complete data(数据) when it is being used. Besides, the robot is able to read license plates(车牌号码) by itself so it can recognise and record the cars in parking areas, which helps track cars easily. Another important part of the robot is an easy-to-use button. If people need help or want to get in touch with the communication center, they can simply press the button. On the other side, security(安全) workers watch the system all the time. They can send messages through the robot to those who pressed the button. If something bad happens, the police can see the situation right away through the robot’s cameras. Then they can come quickly to check what is going on. The self-driving robot gave a good performance at a conference, which made people think it could be used in parks, since there have been more worries about park safety lately. The robot moves along a pre-set path, but this path can be changed to meet different needs. For example, it can be adjusted(调整) when there are special events or when the safety needs of the park change. To keep people safe when they are near the robot, the robot is made to stop for a short time if it senses someone getting too close. All the data from the robot, including the video recordings, is saved. If a dangerous event happens, these recordings can be looked at later. This helps work out what happened step by step. 28.What is one function of the robot’s cameras? A.They record continuously to collect data. B.They recognise users by their facial features. C.They send out safety warnings in crowded areas. D.They allow the public to control the robot’s movement. 29.What is the third paragraph mainly about? A.The details of the robot’s camera system. B.The robot’s ability to deal with large amounts of data. C.The history of robotic development for security purposes. D.The communication between the public and security workers. 30.Why did people consider using the robot in parks? A.To attract more visitors. B.To raise safety levels. C.To take the place of human workers. D.To meet the government’s requirements. 31.Which can be the best title for the text? Will we still talk about the “mobile” phone when all phones are mobile, or when they are implanted within us? Technology is everywhere nowadays, especially at work. Some people are really good at using all the cool new tools that keep popping up. They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. Think of it like a superpower for understanding the latest tech stuff that our great-grandparents would have found really impossible. Having a high TQ means you’re awesome at using all the cool new things that not everyone knows about yet. The examples are common and becoming more and more frequent. For the parent it might be a home-school video class. For the brand manager it might be search engine boosting. And for the clinician, it might be the role of artificial intelligence in supporting the analysis of a CT scan. TQ attempts to quantify our ability to make sensible use of current technologies and to quickly adapt to, embrace and capitalize on future creations. This adoption is critical from a variety of perspectives, from social to business. One trip into the world of ChatGPT and we can see how the dynamics of AI and search are changing for just about everyone. Any Mom or Dad can understand the value of IQ and EQ in projecting the potential for a child’s success. But what about technology? The ability for the child and the teacher to understand, embrace and assimilate technology will be a defining aspect of their lives as we speed into the future. We are increasingly defined by technology and our active participation in everything from smart phones to Facebook. It might just be time for the basic human needs of food, water and shelter to incorporate technology too. And when that happens, it just might be a good idea to measure it. While this shift brings challenges, it’s unstoppable. As TQ rises, it will combine with IQ and EQ, reshaping how we live, work, and learn — turning adaptability with tech into a measurable edge. 32.What is TQ according to the text? A.Speed of learning new languages. B.Skill of fixing high-tech products. C.Talent to follow modern changes. D.Ability to apply new technologies. 33.Which of the following people has a high TQ? A.A manager who often uses modern search engines. B.A doctor who analyzes CT scans with AI assistance. C.A grandparent who finds new tech devices awkward. D.A mom who watches videos of her child’s school life. 34.What does the underlined word “assimilate” in the fourth paragraph mean? A.Rely on. B.Take in. C.Benefit from. D.Learn about. 35.What might be the best title for the passage? A.Why Are IQ and EQ Important for TQ? B.How Has TQ Changed in the Modern Era? C.What Makes TQ the New Intelligence? D.Where to Start Adapting to TQ Changes? 根据第二段“They have something called a TQ, or technology quotient. A series of questions related to the customs, traditions, lifestyle practices, and rituals (仪式) of worship remain unanswered. 64 (hopeful), the priceless items from Sanxingdui now on show in Hong Kong will encourage some of the viewers 65 (find) out more about the ancient societies of Sichuan. 56.the 57.which 58.noted 59.regions 60.with 61.religious 62.and 63.surrounded 64.Hopefully 65.to find 【解析】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了香港故宫文化博物馆展出的三星堆文物,包括展品特点、所反映的古蜀文明以及展览的不同部分,同时提及三星堆仍存在诸多未解之谜,期望此次展览能激发参观者对四川古代社会的探索兴趣。 56. 这里特指名为“Gazing at Sanxingdui: New Archaeological Discoveries in Sichuan”的这个展览,所以用定冠词the。故填the。 57. 故填which。 58. 故填with。 61. 故填and。 63. remain是系动词,be surrounded by是固定短语,意为“被…… encourage sb. to do sth. 故填to find。 Are Life Skills Classes Necessary? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【答案】 Are Life Skills Classes Necessary? 要求考生以“Are Life Skills Classes Necessary?” I firmly believe life skills classes are absolutely necessary for students. I hold a firm belief that life skills classes are absolutely necessary for students. 1】I firmly believe life skills classes are absolutely necessary for students.(运用了省略连接词that的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】For example, learning to manage money helps us avoid financial troubles later.(运用了动名词短语作主语) 第二节(满分25分) 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 My brother and I are only a year apart in age. When we were little, people would ask if we were twins. We lived in the mountains and only had each other for a long time, so we weren't just brother and sister, we were best friends. Everything changed after our parents divorced. He went to live with my father, I with my mother. Sometimes he visited us and sometimes I visited them, but we grew more distant each time. By the time I was thirteen, we'd stopped hanging out altogether. I think the only time we ever spoke was at Christmas, and it was all polite but painfully awkward, like he was a complete stranger instead of my little brother. Several years later, after being accepted to a major university three thousand miles away, I made a bold plan: to drive across the country on my own. The idea of traveling alone thrilled me, filling me with excitement and a hint of nervousness, though I knew that the road could be lonely and unpredictable — endless stretches without seeing a single person, and sometimes even wild animals crossing out of nowhere. My parents, however, thought it would be safer if my brother came along as my travel companion on the long drive to college. Needless to say, we were both furious (愤怒的) about the idea. The last thing either of us wanted was to spend a week in a car together — he, with a sister he barely knew, and I, with a “babysitter” I never asked for. But it was settled. Two weeks later, we set off. For the first six hundred miles, neither of us spoke much unless absolutely necessary. The silence was thick with tension, and it didn't take long before we argued over what music to play, how fast to drive, and when to take breaks, each of us stubbornly sticking to our own way, rolling our eyes and sighing in frustration. Just when I thought the trip would be unbearable, something unexpected happened. ___________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Still trembling from the accident, I realized he was holding my hand. ______________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just when I thought the trip would be unbearable, something unexpected happened. 词汇激活 行为类 ①迅速窜出:dart out/rush out ②盯,凝视:stare at/peer at ③消失:vanish/disappear 情绪类 ①令我惊讶的是:to my surprise/to my amazement ②柔和地:softly/mildly 【点睛】[高分句型1] We were driving through a remote stretch of countryside when a deer darted out from the woods.(when引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] My heart raced as I stared at the deer, which stood frozen for a second before vanishing into the trees. B Years ago, a scientific journal was about to publish our team’s research paper and requested a beautiful image for its cover. C A self-driving robot has been introduced recently. A.The Rise of Modern Policing B.New Technologies Are Changing Lifestyle C.The Development of Robots in Event Management D.The Self-Driving Robot Is Improving Public Security D New era requires a new vocabulary. With so many gyms around, finding a satisfying one can be a tough search. 36 The ideal gym needs equipment and classes that you’ll consistently use to make it a worthwhile investment. ______________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第2页,共22页 1 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
