Tam. About Our Community Science Programs The Parks Conservancy’s community science programs combine landscape-scale science with community engagement. Community members participate in large-scale studies to list and monitor species and ecosystems in the parks, helping to fill gaps in our knowledge about our local environment. These programs are also an opportunity for volunteers to learn new skills and to connect to local public lands through participation in science. Programs include: *Golden Gate Raptor Observatory — a program of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy in cooperation with the National Park Service to inspire the preservation of California raptor populations. *Marin Wildlife Watch — a mountain wide study using motion-activated cameras to monitor mammal populations. *Tamalpais Bee Lab — an inventory of wild bees on public lands throughout Marin County. *California Giant Salamander Inventory — documenting this mysterious species’ population through crowd-sourced data. All the work is done in partnership with our agency partners, academic institutions, and nonprofit conservation organizations. When you participate in one of our programs, you get to learn new skills and contribute to these important bodies of knowledge about the world. How to participate & Contact Us You can learn more about our approach to community science and submit application on https://www.onetam.org. 1. What is the aim of Community Science? A To protect natural landscape. B. To teach volunteers new skills. C. To observe species and enrich the data. D. To connect with conservation organizations. 2. What program will insect-lovers prefer? A. Tamalpais Bee Lab. B. Marin Wildlife Watch. C. Golden Gate Raptor Observatory. D. California Giant Salamander Inventory. 3. How can volunteers apply for Community Science? A. By mailing application letters. B. By visiting the official website. C. By visiting the Parks Conservancy. D. By attending an interview with agents. B Though I am a female scientist, I have face blindness. I can see faces, but the individual details, such as the distance between the eyes or the shape of the nose, are fuzzy. As a result, recognizing faces — something so instant and unconscious for most — is a major challenge. Over the years I developed my own ways of dealing with the problem. To distinguish people, I relied on cues — like the way a person walks and a habitual lunch spot. There were many embarrassing moments as I pursued my career. But overall, I was managing. Then, I often worked at home. As interactions moved online, suddenly everyone became a stranger. For my peace of mind, I needed to get to the bottom of why I see the world so differently from most people. Through a combination of luck and privilege, I connected with a specialist who gave me an official diagnosis (诊断). Even though I had already essentially diagnosed myself, it was a relief to have a professional put a formal name to it. More importantly, I realized I had to face reality. Now if I’m going to an event where I’m expected to know people, I send an e-mail explaining that if I ignore them, it won’t be intentional. I’ve found that people are less likely to be offended when they know beforehand. But sometimes I feel like something out of a science-fiction plot. A recent presentation titled You Don’t Belong Here was intended to show how some environments can be exclusionary (排斥的) and what can be done to address that. As the presenters alternated between acting out scenes and commenting on them, I left feeling exactly as the title said. It would have been a great help if they had explained at the beginning that they were going to switch roles. People with disabilities exist, and we need our co-workers to think broadly about accessibility and inclusion. Let’s create an environment where we all feel like we belong. 4. What is wrong with the author? A. She can’t tell faces apart. B. She can’t see faces instantly. C. She lacks facial expressions. D. She always keeps a straight face. 5. What made the author decide to seek professional help? A. Her wrong self-diagnosis. B. The rise in online interactions. C. A specialist’s recommendation. D. The chance of a promotion. 6. Which is mentioned as the author’s way of handling face blindness? A. Sending others an e-mail ahead of time. B. Learning the style people like to wear. C. Meeting more friends in regular places. D. Drawing co-workers’ faces in a notebook. 7. What can we infer from paragraph 5? A. The author is bad at getting along with others. B. Science fiction is an inspiration for the author. C. The author loses a sense of belonging in some environments. D. Having face blindness makes the author stand out in public. C Scientists in Australia thought they had developed a new tracking device to help them monitor magpies (喜鹊), but these birds had other ideas. Australian magpies are medium-sized black and white birds from the same bird“family” as crows and bluejays. They are known to be quite clever. They live in groups of up to 12 birds and work together to defend the area they live in. The purpose of the scientists’ experiment was to learn more about how far they travel each day and how their social behaviors are influenced by sex, age, and rank. Besides, the scientists were eager to test the newly developed tracking device. Most trackers are too big to fit on small and medium sized birds, and small trackers tend to be limited when it comes to data storage, battery life, and reusability. The new tracker, weighing less than 1 gram, was designed to overcome these problems. Attached to a backpack-like harness (背带) which could not be removed easily, the device can re-charge wirelessly and transmit (传输) data wirelessly. The scientists placed trackers on five magpies using their special harnesses. Things started to fall apart almost immediately. Within 10 minutes of fitting the final tracker, an adult female without a tracker tried to remove the harness from a younger bird and eventually succeeded. This pattern was repeated in the following hours, and by the third day none of the birds had trackers anymore. Scientists refer to this as“rescue behavior,” and it happens when a helper tries to free another individual in trouble and with no obvious direct benefit to the rescuing individual. They think this is the first time rescue behavior has been reported for Australian magpies. However, they aren’t sure if the same individual removed all of the harnesses or if others offered help. The team didn’t get the data they wanted, but their experiment still produced interesting results. That’s how science works sometimes. The scientists need to try, again to figure out a good way to track these clever birds. 8. What can we learn about Australian magpies from paragraph 2? A. They outsmart crows. B. They are social species. C. They are rarely spotted. D. They learn from each other. 9. What is a big advantage of the new tracking device? A. It can work without wires. B. It can be applied to all birds. C. It doesn’t come off the birds. D. It doesn’t need to be re-charged. 10. What happened to the magpies after the trackers were attached to them? A. They couldn’t fly as normal. B. They were warned by other magpies. C. They helped each other to remove the trackers. D. They were driven out of their home by other adult magpies. 11. Which can be the best title for the text? A. Magpies Teach Scientists an Unexpected Lesson B. Climate Change Makes Magpies More Difficult C The Trackers Help Magpies Get Used to Nature D. Magpies Are Adjusting to the Trackers on Their Bodies D A team of engineers has invented a new type of tiny, self-driven robots that can travel through liquid at incredible speeds and may one day even deliver drugs to hard-to-reach places like bladder (膀胱) inside the human body. The new study shows this research is a big step forward for tiny robots. The microrobots are really small. Each one measures only 20 micrometers wide, several times smaller than the width of a human hair. They’re also really fast, capable of traveling at speeds of about 3 millimeters per second, or roughly 9, 000 times their own length per minute. The machines look a bit like small rockets and come complete with three tiny wings. The team makes its microrobots out of materials by using a technology similar to 3D printing. Each of the robots carries a small bubble (泡泡) of trapped air. If you expose the machines to sound, the bubbles will begin to shake wildly, pushing water away and shooting the robots forward. “Imagine if microrobots could perform certain tasks in the body, such as surgeries without cutting into the body,” said Jin Lee, lead author of the study, “we can simply introduce the robots to the body through a pill or an injection, and they would perform the procedure themselves. If that sounds like something copied from science fiction, that’s because it is.” He imagined that, just like in the movie, microrobots could move through a person’s blood stream, seeking out targeted areas. “Once there, the machines slowly released their medicine over the course of about two days. Such a steady flow of medicine could improve the outcome for patients.” Lee added, “But there is a lot of work to do before microrobots can travel through real human bodies.” For a start, the group wants to make the machines fully biodegradable so that they would eventually disappear in the body, causing no damage at all. “If we can make them work in the bladder,” Lee said, “maybe patients wouldn’t have to come into the clinic as often.” 12. What is an advantage of the invention? A. The small size. B. The rocket-like shape. C. The big bubble. D. The 3D-printed material. 13. What can we infer from Lee’s words about the robots in Paragraph 3? A. They cure bladder diseases. B. They help to give patients pills. C. They are inspired from science fiction. D. They have performed tasks in human bodies. 14. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “biodegradable” in Paragraph 4? A. Efficient. B. Dissolvable C. Recyclable D. Sensitive. 15. What is the purpose of the text? A. To introduce a healthcare robot. B. To advertise a medical machine. C. To arouse interest in developing robots. D. To raise concern about bladder diseases. It is true that some folks are naturally more patient than others. Her curiosity and attention to detail made her an excellent observer. Jack, her childhood friend, was an experienced hiker. His practical skills and calm demeanor (举止) made him the perfect companion for such adventures. It was a sunny afternoon when they decided to explore the thick forest near their hometown. Armed with a map, a compass, and of course, a first-aid kit, they hiked deep into the woods. The singing of birds and the rustling of leaves filled the air, creating a harmonious atmosphere. However, as they walked further, the path became less clear. and the forest grew darker. The towering trees seemed to close in around them, and the sunlight barely filtered (透过) through the thick shade. Suddenly, they heard a weak sound, almost like a cry, Emma stopped in her tracks and turned to Jack. “Did you hear that?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Jack nodded, his eyes scanning the thick underbrush. “It sounds like an animal in trouble.” he replied. Following the sound, they pushed through the bushes and found a small deer trapped in a bush, its leg caught in vines (葛藤) The deer’ eyes were wide with fear, and it struggled helplessly, its tender body trembling with very movement. Emma knelt down slowly, her hands outstretched. “It’s okay, little one,” she whispered in a soft voice. “We’re here to help.” Jack pulled out his pocket knife and carefully began to cut the vines. “Hold its head gently,” he instructed Emma. “We don’t want it to panic.” Emma nodded, her hands steady as she held the deer’s head, whispering comforting words. The deer’s breathing was rapid, and its body trembled, but it seemed to sense that they were there to help. “Wait,” Emma said, “Its leg was injured.” _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After a few tense minutes, Jack finally managed to free the deer’s leg. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 兵团二中2025-2026学年第一学期高二英语期中考试诊断 第I卷 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1. 5分,满分7. 5分) 听下面5段对话。 1. 4. 根据第一段中“I can see faces, but the individual details, such as the distance between the eyes or the shape of the nose, are fuzzy. (我能看到脸,但个人细节,如眼睛之间的距离或鼻子的形状,是模糊的。)”可知,作者有脸盲症,她无法辨别人们的脸。故选A。 根据第三段中“As interactions moved online, suddenly everyone became a stranger. For my peace of mind, I needed to get to the bottom of why I see the world so differently from most people. Through a combination of luck and privilege, I connected with a specialist who gave me an official diagnosis (诊断). (随着社交互动转移到线上,突然间,每个人都成了陌生人。为了让自己内心安宁,我必须弄清楚为何我看待世界的角度与大多数人如此不同。凭借运气与自身具备的优越条件,我联系到了一位专家,他给我做出了正式诊断。)”可知,使作者决定向专家寻求帮助的是网上交流的兴起。故选B。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Now if I’m going to an event where I’m expected to know people, I send an e-mail explaining that if I ignore them, it won’t be intentional. (现在,如果我要去参加一个我应该认识的人的活动,我会发一封电子邮件解释说,如果我忽略了他们,那不是故意的。)”可知,作者对待自己脸盲症的一个方法是提前给别人发一封关于自己问题的电子邮件说明情况,故选A。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中“A recent presentation titled You Don’t Belong Here was intended to show how some environments can be exclusionary (排斥的) and what can be done to address that. As the presenters alternated between acting out scenes and commenting on them, I left feeling exactly as the title said. (最近一场题为《你不属于这里》的演讲,旨在揭示某些环境是如何具有排斥性的,以及可以采取哪些措施来解决这一问题。当演讲者交替进行场景演绎与评论时,我离开时的感受正如演讲标题所言。)”可推知,作者在某些环境中会失去归属感。故选C。 C Scientists in Australia thought they had developed a new tracking device to help them monitor magpies (喜鹊), but these birds had other ideas. Climate Change Makes Magpies More Difficult C. The Trackers Help Magpies Get Used to Nature D. Magpies Are Adjusting to the Trackers on Their Bodies 【答案】8. B 9. A 10. C 11. 12. In my opinion, AI is a great aid. AI language assistants can answer our grammar questions instantly. When we’re writing an English composition, they can correct mistakes and offer better expressions. Besides, AI-powered translation tools help us understand English texts more quickly. However, we can’t rely on them too much. We still need to learn and practice on our own. Only in this way can we truly improve our English. Thank you! Possible version 2 Dear fellow students, As for the role of AI tools in English learning, I believe AI is like a double-edged sword. Positively, language learning apps with AI features can provide personalized learning plans based on our language abilities. They can also offer real-time pronunciation correction, boosting speaking skills. However, over-reliance on AI translation tools risks weakening independent thinking and language-processing abilities. In conclusion, we should make good use of AI tools while also maintaining our own learning initiative. Only by striking a balance can we benefit more from AI in our English learning journey. Thank you! 词汇积累 在我看来:in my opinion→from my perspective, as far as I am concerned 提供:offer→provide, give 依赖于:rely on→depend on, be dependent on 提高:improve→sharpen 2. In today’s English class, we’re discussing the impact of AI tools on English learning. In today’s English class, we’re discussing how AI tools will affect English learning. 【点睛】[高分句型1] When we’re writing an English composition, they can correct mistakes and offer better expressions. She pulled out a small bottle of alcohol and a clean cloth. Jack paused and watched as Emma carefully cleaned the wounds with alcohol. Then she applied some anti-inflammation powder to them and bandaged them with the cloth. The deer flinched but remained still, its dark eyes locked on hers. “It’s like it understands,” Jack said, his voice filled with awe. After a few tense minutes. Jack finally managed to free the deer’s leg. The deer hesitated for a moment, looking at them with its large, dark eyes affectionately. Then, with a soft snort, it limped away into the forest, disappearing among the trees. Emma and Jack stood there in silence, their hearts still racing from the unexpected encounter. The forest seemed quieter now, as if holding its breath. “Do you think it’ll be okay?” Emma asked, her voice tinged with concern. Jack placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “We did what we could,” he reassured her. “Sometimes, that’s all we can do.” He glanced at the darkening sky, whispering: “It’s strong. It’ll survive.” 词汇激活 行为类: ①清理:clean/clear up ②消失:disappear/vanish ③朝……看了一眼:glance at/throw one’s eye on 心理类: ①敬畏:awe/reverence ②担心:concern/worry 【点睛】【高分句型 1】Emma and Jack stood there in silence, their hearts still racing from the unexpected encounter.(运用了独立主格结构) 【高分句型 2】The deer hesitated for a moment, looking at them with its large, dark eyes affectionately.(运用了现在分词作伴随状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
