Winter is coming—do you feel down more often? If so, you might have seasonal affective disorder (SAD,季节性情绪失调).
SAD is a kind of depression (抑郁) that comes and goes with the seasons. It is also known as “winter depression” because it usually happens in winter. However, some people with SAD may also feel down during the summer and feel better in the winter.
Besides feeling sad, people with SAD may also lose interest in everyday activities. They may sleep a lot and find it hard to get up in the morning. It can also be difficult for them to focus (集中注意力).
Scientists still don’t know the reason behind SAD. But it’s often linked to less sunlight during the shorter autumn and winter days, the UK National Health Service (NHS) said. Not getting enough sunlight might make a part of the brain not work well. This can influence your hormones and body clock. All of these things make you feel blue.
Getting more sunlight and exercising are good ways to deal with SAD. “Light therapy (疗法)”, or using special lamps at home to simulate (模仿) natural light, can also help. But if you still feel very sad, you should go to a doctor, said the NHS.
5. How does the first paragraph of the text start?
A. By showing some numbers. B. By asking a question.
C. By giving an example. D. By making a comparison.
6. What might be the reason for SAD according to the UK’s NHS?
A. Eating too much. B. Getting less sunlight.
C. Too much brain activity. D. Not getting enough sleep.
7. How can people stop themselves from getting SAD?
A. By exercising more in natural light. B. By keeping lights on at night.
C By staying indoors as much as possible. D. By thinking less about their feelings.
8. What’s the text mainly about?
A. The importance of sunlight for people’s health.
B. The influence of seasons on people’s daily activities.
C. An introduction to winter sadness and how to solve it.
D. Different kinds of sad feelings and their causes.

I grew up in the countryside. I didn’t understand what it brought to me until I became an adult. It helped me learn more practical skills than my peers (同龄人) who grew up in cities.
I learned to cook at around 10 years old. The first skill I learned was making dough. In my hometown of Ningxia, people make noodles from the start of the evening. Since my parents often came home late, a prepared dough would help my family have dinner sooner. I thought it would be easy because I often saw my mom do it—just mix water and flour, right? Not quite! It was a mess for a while. First, I made the dough too soft. Then, I made it too hard. But as I kept trying, I learned the trick (窍门).
Later, I cooked fried dishes and things like dumplings. I fell in love with cooking. It’s a good way to relax.
Thanks to my cooking skills, I live a better life when I need to work from home. I cook every meal instead of ordering delivery (外卖). It saves money, and I don’t have to wait for delivery drivers to bring me food.
This may be why I’m so happy to know that students now have labor education at school in China. These practical skills will help them for the rest of their lives.
9. Why did the writer start learning to cook at 10?
A. To win cooking competitions. B. To help his family eat dinner earlier.
C. To become a good cook. D. To teach cooking to his peers.
10. What problem did the writer face at first?
A. He forgot to buy flour. B. His dough didn’t feel right.
C. He burned the noodles. D. His parents didn’t like his cooking.
11. How does cooking help the writer now?
A. He saves money and time. B. He makes friends easily.
C. He gets better grades at school. D. He travels to new places for food.
12. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards labor education?
A. Worried. B. Uninterested. C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.
【答案】9 B 10. B 11. A 12. C

In 1932, a Danish (丹麦的) man named Ole Kirk Kristiansen started a business—making toys. He took the Danish words “LEg GOdt”, meaning “play well”, and came up with “LEGO”. How has a kids’ toy become so successful? There are three main reasons.
The first is that the LEGO Group works hard to make its toys better. For example, LEGO bricks (积木) were made of wood at first. But, as the wooden parts didn’t stay together, LEGO searched for a way to make different parts stick together even when they were moved somewhere else. This is how their plastic bricks were invented.
The second reason for LEGO’s success is the toy itself. The LEGO Group wants to make toys that allow children to learn through playing. Its special bricks are perfect for this. They are strong and colorful. Children can use the bricks to build almost anything they can think of. With just six bricks, there are 915,103,765 ways to put them together!
The last reason for LEGO’s success is that the LEGO Group keeps trying to come up with new ideas. It now has many different product lines, from large toys for younger children to complicated (复杂的) toys for adults. Some product lines use themes from popular movies. And now LEGO even has its own movie!
With these reasons for success in mind, it’s no surprise that LEGO was named the “Toy of the Century” twice. And there’s little doubt that children around the world will continue to love LEGO toys for years to come.
13. Why did the plastic LEGO bricks take the place of wooden bricks?
A. Because plastic bricks are cheaper. B. Because plastic bricks are stronger.
C. Because plastic bricks can stick together. D. Because plastic bricks come in many colors.
14. What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. A wooden brick. B. A plastic brick.
C. The LEGO Group. D. A child who loves LEGO toys.
15. How is the text organized? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2...)
A. B.
C. D.
16. What’s the purpose of the writer in writing the text?
A. To tell us how to start a business. B. To introduce a new kind of toy to us.
C. To explain why the LEGO toy is popular. D. To advise children to play with LEGO bricks.

Do you ever think about talking to astronauts in space? Ezekiel Wheeler, 13, from the US did more than just think about it. He started to make it happen when he was just eight years old.
Wheeler always enjoys playing with batteries and switches. As he turned 8, he started to think about reaching out to the International Space Station (ISS).
To make this happen, he needed a ham radio (业余无线电) and a tracker (追踪器). He made his own tracker with a 3-meter-long antenna (天线). But later he found the tracker didn’t work well. So, he 3D-printed two other important parts. He then used a small computer and an LCD screen to track the ISS.
The tracker helped Wheeler win second prize in a top STEM competition for middle school students in the US.
Wheeler wasn’t only interested in talking to the astronauts himself. He also wanted to let his friends talk to them. For him, science is everything. “I like to meet challenges,” he said.

6 What might be the reason for SAD according to the UK’s NHS?
A. Eating too much. B. Getting less sunlight.
C. Too much brain activity. D. Not getting enough sleep.
7. How can people stop themselves from getting SAD?
A. By exercising more in natural light. B. By keeping lights on at night.
C. By staying indoors as much as possible.

C. Supportive. D. Doubtful.

41. What did Ezekiel Wheeler start doing at the age of 8?
