Recently, soft toys called Labubu have become more and more popular around the world. Stores can’t keep them in stock (保持库存) because they sell out so fast. Their fans wait outside stores and keep checking online shops for new stock. Even famous people love them—Emma Roberts shared videos of her Labubus and said she “is crazy about them”. Fans post pictures of their Labubus online and even buy mini clothes to dress them up.
Labubu was a character in a storybook series called The Monsters. A Hong Kong artist named Kasing Lung first drew it in 2015. In 2019, a toy company called Pop Mart turned it into a real toy.
Now there are more than 300 designs of Labubu. Some wear fun clothes, and others are special designs (设计) made with big companies like Coca-Cola.
People love Labubus because they look happy and playful, with big smiles and nine teeth. Since so many fans want them, Labubus have become super popular. Some rare versions (限量款) even sell for over $300 online.
Labubus are usually sold in “blind boxes”, meaning buyers don’t know what colour or design they’re getting until they open the box. But actually finding a Labubu blind box to buy can be difficult. Pop Mart gets new Labubus every week. They put them online every Thursday, but they sell out very fast, sometimes in just a few seconds. If you want to buy them in stores, you need to go on Friday. Many people really want these toys, and some even wait in line for hours before the store opens to get one.

My dad is very interested in the Silk Road and he told me many things about it. Last summer, my family got away for a holiday and went to some places on the road.
We started at Lanzhou and went on to Wuwei. Wuwei was a very important city on the Silk Road. It connected three main cities in the area. Some animals can easily find their way home after a long journey. How do they make it? Scientific research shows that they are born with certain unusual abilities for direction.
A certain kind of ants, for example, can count their steps to avoid (避免) getting lost. They can go as far as 110 metres and bring food home. These ants live in the open desert, so they have nothing to guide them along the way. It’s like someone walking six kilometres through a dark forest.
Some fish have an unbelievable sense of smell. They can smell even a single drop of their home water in a large sea area. Some sea birds have a similar ability. They are able to make a smell map of their flying area.
Some animals can sense the earth’s magnetic field (磁场), while humans can’t. This magnetic field guides a certain kind of fish when they swim a long way to a place and then back. How can this kind of fish do that? It is still a mystery. Scientists have no good answers yet.
However, animals with such unusual abilities still have difficulty dealing with environmental changes caused by human activities. For example, many birds depend on stars for direction, but they get lost easily at night when city lights are kept on all night. To solve this problem, we can simply turn off some lights at night. Clearly, one small act of humans may mean a lot to animals.
32. How can a certain kind of ants find their way?
A. By imagining the way. B. By counting their steps.
C. By bringing food together. D. By drawing a map.
33. According to the writer, how can humans help many birds find directions at night?
A. We can help them find the earth’s magnetic field.
B. We can help them make some smell maps.
C. We can guide them along the way.
D. We can turn off some lights at night.
34. What’s the structure of the text?
A. ①/②③/④⑤ B. ①②/③④/⑤ C. ①/②③④/⑤ D. ①②③/④/⑤
35. Where might you see the text?
A. In a magazine about science. B. In a story book about fish.

【答案】例文
Wise people often have their own opinions, while great people always share similar good qualities. Today I’d like to talk about my two close friends, Peter and Han Lin. They both study hard and always help each other. They also have differences, such as Peter waking up earlier and Han Lin having longer hair, but this does not affect their friendship. Last summer, they went to Beijing for a summer camp, where they played games together. In the classroom, Peter swept the floor and Han Lin watered the plants. They always study together, and Peter will give advice when Han Lin makes mistakes.

Did you hear of the Silk Road? Do you know how important it is? Did you visit any famous places along the road? Although it’s called the Silk Road people bought and sold much more than silk. The Silk Road went through Asia, the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. It was 6,440 km from Xi’an to Rome (罗马).
My dad is very interested in the Silk Road and he told me many things about it. Last summer, my family got away for a holiday and went to some places on the road.
We started at Lanzhou and went on to Wuwei. Wuwei was a very important city on the Silk Road. It connected three main cities in the area. Although it’s now a modern city, you can get a feeling of history when you visit it. We saw lots of very old stone monuments (石碑) and people there took pride in their city’s long history.
The next stop was Jiayuguan. It’s on the edge (边缘) of the desert, and also an important place on the Silk Road. It was a busy city with a lot of people coming and going. An important part of the Great Wall was also built here. Even today, it’s a city that many business people travel through.
After that, we went on to Yumenguan. I first found out about Yumenguan in the famous poem written by Wang Zhihuan. It was in the Gobi Desert and was the only connection between Central Asia and China. I really want to know how people ever made it through the hot desert so long ago.
This trip wasn’t just a sightseeing trip. It helped me understand the history of the area and see how people from different places influenced (影响) each other in many ways.
28. How many places on the road did the writer see during this trip?
A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six.
29. Which picture can show the phrase “took pride in”?
A. B. C. D.
30. What does the writer think of the trip?
A. Boring and terrible. B. Tiring but interesting.
C. Tiring but meaningful. D. Interesting and meaningful.
31. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Jiayuguan has been a busy city in both ancient and modern times.

Some animals can sense the earth’s magnetic field (磁场) while humans can’t.
A ①/②③/④⑤ B. ①②/③④/⑤ C. ①/②③④/⑤ D. ①②③/④/⑤
35. Where might you see the text?
