1. understand the main idea, genre and structure of the passage about making friends online
2. learn how to protect ourselves when making friends online
Teaching Procedures
1. Lead-In (2 minutes)
The teacher starts with a question: "How do you prefer to make friends in daily life?"and invite 3-4 students to share their answers (e.g., through other friends, using social apps, joining a club, posting "Friends Wanted" notices, taking part in community activities).
2. Pre-Reading: Prediction (7 minutes)
The students analyze the passage title "CLICK FOR A FRIEND?"
Q1: "What does ‘Click’ mean here?"
Q2: "Why is there a question mark in the title?"
The students predict the genre and the teacher ask students to choose the genre and explain their reasons. Then, the teacher asks students to analyze the passage structure.
3. While-Reading: Comprehension & Analysis (15 minutes)
The teacher guides students to read again and fill in the table about advantages and disadvantages of online friendship:
Advantages (Para. 2-3)
