Nowadays, practicing baduanjin has become popular among young people. Wang Zhen, a professor at Shanghai University of Sport, points out that its history dates back to the Song Dynasty. Qigong exercises differ greatly in difficulty. Tai Chi and wuqinxi require people to imitate (模仿) animals like bears, tigers, which can be challenging for beginners. In contrast, baduanjin is known for its simplicity, with gentle and easy-to-follow movements. Because of this, baduanjin is an excellent choice for those new to qigong, offering a gradual (逐渐的) introduction to the practice without the difficult animal imitations.
“Each movement comes with its own rhyming (押韵的) instructions, making it easy for people to remember and perform them in time,” Wang explains. “It’s possible to practice almost anywhere and at any time. For example, you can practice a standing pose by the table after spending a long time sitting at the computer,” Wang further notes.
Wang’s qigong journey began at 12. He got a master’s degree (硕士学位) in traditional Chinese sports from the Shanghai University of Sport in 1999. He began teaching at the university later that year.
Baduanjin was mainly practiced by the elderly in parks or at home due to its simplicity in the past. However, nowadays, a large number of young people, including students and white-collar workers, are practicing baduanjin. Similar to many other Chinese traditions, such as wearing traditional Chinese clothing (like hanfu) and playing traditional Chinese musical instruments (like the pipa), traditional sports are experiencing a return to people’s daily life.
24. According to Wang Zhen, what makes baduanjin more beginner-friendly compared to other qigong exercises?
A. Its allowing people to practice it anywhere and anytime.
B. Its simple and gentle movements.
C. Its imitation of animal actions in rhyme.
D. Its long history.
25. When did Wang begin to teach at the Shanghai University of Sport?
A. In 1999. B. In 2000. C. In 1998. D. In 2001.
26. Which of the following statements about baduanjin is TRUE?
A The history of baduanjin dates back to the Ming Dynasty.
B. It was traditionally practiced by old people in public or private (私人的) spaces.
C. Practicing baduanjin requires a high level of physical ability.
D. It has changed from being a young people’s fashion to an elderly activity as well.
27. What is the writer’s purpose of writing the passage?
A. To describe the development of baduanjin.
B. To introduce the simplicity and advantages of baduanjin for all age groups.
C. To introduce the increasing popularity of baduanjin among the young.
D. To call on more people to practice baduanjin.

①Most people follow others blindly. Some people feel it is safe to follow other people. In some rare cases it might be right, but in most cases this can make a big mistake. Ninety-five percent of people never succeed because they are following the wrong group. Actually, there are reasons why we shouldn’t follow others blindly.
②According to a study, people always follow others when they aren’t sure about the direction they should take. This means a large number of people could be following others without understanding what’s right and what’s wrong. This attracts more people to follow them and the result is that most people move in a certain direction even if it is wrong.
③A man who wants to be successful always hopes for guidance from others and he usually follows the same path as most people, but the question this man never asks himself is, “Are all of those people successful?” Of course not. If you want to follow a group, then follow a successful one. However, in real life you’ll only find one successful person among hundreds of people, and that’s why following others makes no sense at all.
④Most people act without thinking wisely. If you always follow others because they’re greater than you, then sooner or later you’ll discover that you’re making decisions you might regret later.
⑤However, should we never follow others? No. But just think wisely before you make a decision. If you find others are right, there is no problem with following them, but if you doubt the direction they’re moving in, don’t follow them blindly.
28. Why do most people like to follow others blindly according to the passage?
A. Because they don’t want to be different.
B. Because they believe it’s the safest and easiest choice.
C. Because they’re sure to take the right direction.
D. Because they want to make themselves successful.
29. Which sentence uses “rare” with the same meaning as in the passage?
rare /reə(r)/ adj.①罕见的 ②珍贵的 ③半熟的 ④稀薄的
A. I’d like a medium rare beef steak.
B. It’s rare to see such an interesting group of people.
C. Pandas are very rare animals in the world.
D. The rare air in Tibet makes it hard for visitors to breathe.
30. What’s the best structure (结构) of the passage?
①= Paragraph 1, ②= Paragraph 2, ③= Paragraph 3, ④= Paragraph 4, ⑤= Paragraph 5
A. B. C. D.
31. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Advantages of following others. B. Examples of following others.
C Reasons for not following others blindly. D. Ways of following others.

Chongqing’s Ciqikou Ancient Town is a national 4A-level tourist attraction, drawing over 16 million visitors every year. With over 1,800 people living there and more than 50,000 visitors coming daily, it experiences great population pressure and safety challenges.
Ciqikou has over 700 wooden buildings, which reflect its long and rich history and culture. But these old houses made of wood can catch fire easily, ▲
Li Cheng, a member of the Party Committee and Organization Committee of Ciqikou Street, said in an interview with Bridging News on April 9. When asked what was the most important part of their work in Ciqikou, he answered, “Fire prevention is always the first thing for us.”
To do this, they have developed an AI-powered fire automatic early warning system, which is a smart system with cameras and sensors (传感器) to discover fires quickly. They put up three tall “eyes in the sky”, 209 cameras, and 944 sensors all over the place, making a 3D network to sense fires and leaving no blind spots.
If any of these sensors or cameras discover a fire, they will send a warning to the local control center and the small fire stations nearby, so that firefighters can rush to the fire scene to put out the fire. If the fire is too serious for the firefighters to control by themselves, the control center will make quick decisions to help the firefighters. This way, everyone can work together to solve the problem quickly.
Li Cheng said, “Thanks to this smart fire warning system, we have already received about 1,093 warnings and we can usually reach the fire scene within 6 minutes.”
“We believe that a combination of modern technology and human effort is the key to protecting Ciqikou,” Li Cheng concluded. “We are confident that with these methods in place, we can not only protect the town’s valuable cultural heritage (遗产) but also ensure the safety of all who come to visit or live here.”

c. The control center makes quick decisions.
d. Some sensors or cameras discover a fire.

How did you spend your last holiday? Were you glued (粘) to a screen from morning till night? Well, you’re not alone. It seems that many people are now online nearly all the time. According to a new survey, on average (平均), Chinese people spend five and a half hours on the Internet every day.
Let’s be honest. What do you usually do when you’re online? For many people, it’s watching short videos and checking out new moments. Instead of helping you relax, those short videos and moments cloud (使……模糊) your thinking—your brain feels like it’s not working as well as it used to. The Oxford Word of the Year, “brain rot” (脑腐), best explains this problem.
But how did we get here? And what can we do now?
Looking through these types of short videos and moments is like eating your favorite snack. Once you start, it’s hard to stop. It’s also an easy way to kill time. Why plan an outing or take up a new hobby when you have “fun” without getting up from your sofa?
But this “easy fun” comes at a price. The more time we spend glued to our screens, the less real-life joy we experience. While we are having a “good” time on Xiaohongshu and Bilibili, we are missing out on the wonders of the real world. Over time, we feel like our lives are getting boring.
It’s time to bring back “voluntary fun”. Go outside with your friends or family and enjoy the beauty of nature. Breathe in fresh air. Enjoy the summertime. Dance with the pleasant birdsong. Just don’t let your screens take over your free time and leave your brain “rotting”!
Nowadays, many people are glued to screens, which may cause “brain rot”. This means the difficulty in ____50____ after watching too many short videos and moments. ____51____ spending so much time online? One of them is that it’s hard to stop, just like eating snacks. Also, it’s easy to kill time without much effort. However, this habit comes at a cost. The more time we spend on our screens, ____52____ our lives will be. So, how can we ____53____? Going outside to enjoy nature with our loved ones is a good choice.

A. In 1999. B. In 2000. C. In 1998. D. In 2001.

A. The history of baduanjin dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

D. It has changed from being a young people’s fashion to an elderly activity as well.

【答案】50. thinking clearly/ clear thinking/ using our brains well
51. What are the reasons
52. the more boring/the less interesting/ enjoyable/ joyful/ colorful/ wonderful
53. deal with/ avoid/ prevent/ stop/ fight “brain rot” (the problem)/improve the situation
【解析】
【导语】本文介绍了如今很多人长时间沉迷屏幕导致 “脑腐”,这种现象的成因以及不良后果,并建议我们走出户外去享受自然来解决这一问题。
【50题详解】
根据“Instead of helping you relax, those short videos and moments cloud (使……模糊) your thinking—your brain feels like it’s not working as well as it used to.”可知,看太多短视频和动态,我们会难以清晰地思考/很好地运用大脑;介词in后接名词性短语,故用thinking clearly/clear thinking表示“清晰思考”;using our brains well表示“很好地运用大脑”。故填thinking clearly/ clear thinking/ using our brains well。
【51题详解】
根据概要下文“One of them is that it’s hard to stop, just like eating snacks. Also, it’s easy to kill time without much effort.” 故填What are the reasons。
【52题详解】
根据“Over time, we feel like our lives are getting boring.”可知,我们花在屏幕上的时间越多,生活就越无聊/无趣/不精彩;再根据“The more time we spend on our screens, ... our lives will be.”可知,此处是“the+比较级,the+比较级”结构;the more boring表示“越无聊”,the less interesting/ enjoyable/ joyful/ colorful/ wonderful表示“不那么有趣/愉快/快乐/丰富多彩/美妙的”。故填the more boring/the less interesting/ enjoyable/ joyful/ colorful/ wonderful。
【53题详解】
根据“Go outside with your friends or family and enjoy the beauty of nature. Breathe in fresh air. ... Just don’t let your screens take over your free time and leave your brain ‘rotting’!”可知,此处指我们可以如何处理/避免/防止“脑腐”这个问题/如何改善这种情况;deal with“处理”,avoid“避免”,prevent“防止”,stop“停止”,fight“斗争”;improve over the situation表示“改善现状”。故填deal with/ avoid/ prevent/ stop/ fight “brain rot” (the problem)/improve the situation。

例文:
Some memories shine brighter than others in my mind. One unforgettable festival is the Mid-Autumn Festival last year.
On that night, our family gathered in the yard. The moon was full and bright, casting a soft glow over everything. We sat around a table, enjoying delicious mooncakes and fresh fruits. Grandma told us the story of Chang’e flying to the moon. Her voice was gentle, making the ancient tale come alive.
I felt a strong sense of inner warmth. The laughter and joy filled the air. It was more than just a family reunion; it was a moment of sharing love and happiness.
