Chinese animated film Nobody《浪浪山小妖怪》 has become a dark horse sweeping the box office this summer. After 29 days, it had made over 1.4 billion yuan. Many people love it, giving it a high score of 8.6 out of 10 on Douban, a famous review website.
The story follows a small pig monster who lives in a place called Langlang Mountain. He works hard for the Cave King, but doesn’t know how to please the king and makes him angry. After losing his job, he decides to leave the mountain and teams up with three other small and nameless monsters. Together, they pretend (假装) to be the famous group from Journey to the West and start a dangerous journey to grow and find their true selves.
The film touches hearts because it shows the hardship (艰辛) of common people. The little monsters face big challenges and laugh at difficulties. Even though they are weak, they fight bravely. Many viewers (观众) say they see themselves in these characters, especially when they feel frustrated or stuck in hard situations.
Nobody also stands out for its beautiful art style. Made by Shanghai Animation Film Studio, it uses traditional Chinese painting skills. The soft colors of ink-wash paintings and detailed brushwork create a special, dreamlike world. Scenes like foggy mountains or the fur on the monsters look very real and artistic.
The movie shows respect for Chinese culture, too. For example, it references (参考) the classic 1986 TV show Journey to the West and ancient buildings from Shanxi Province. These small details make the story feel both old and new.
Nobody is more than just a movie. It shows that Chinese stories can be told in fresh, exciting ways. As one viewer said, “The real hero is someone who keeps trying, even when things are tough.” This simple but powerful message makes Nobody a must-watch for everyone.

Mars is the fourth closest planet to the Sun. On 23 July 2020, China’s first Mars lander, Tianwen-1, was sent into space from Wenchang, Hainan Island. The spacecraft (航天器) takes its name from an ancient poem by Qu Yuan (340-278 BCE). “Tianwen” means “Questions to Heaven (天)” and expresses China’s determination (决心) to explore the universe.
Mars has interested people for thousands of years. Around 3,000 years ago, in ancient China, people already knew about the planet and began to study how it moved in the sky. However, it was difficult to find out more about it before the 20th century. Thanks to the work of scientists, we have learnt a lot about Mars. Spacecraft like Tianwen-1 will help us find out more about our red neighbour.
After travelling more than 470 million kilometres, Tianwen-1 reached the red planet on 10 February 2021. The craft circled around the planet for three months before landing on the surface (表面) on 15 May. There, it released (放开) a 240-kilogram rover (天体登陆车) named Zhurong. During the next 100 days, Zhurong drove 1,000 metres on the planet’s surface and continued its travel. It took photos of Mars and studied different kinds of rocks, and then it sent the information back to the Earth.
The success of Tianwen-1 is only the beginning of China’s Mars exploration programme. Maybe one day Chinese astronauts will visit Mars.

C. Where Zhurong sent the information. D. What Tianwen-1 did in the year 2021.

When we talk about “screen time”, we’re often thinking about the influence that time spent on devices (设备) has on young people. But what about the influence that those screens have on our eyes?
Whether you’re using Instagram or Microsoft Excel, experts say that spending a lot of time looking at a screen isn’t good for you. ____17____
Many eye experts say you should follow the “20-20-20 rule”. This means taking a 20-second break every 20 minutes to look at something about 20 feet away—that’s about 6 metres. ____18____ It can also make them change their focus from the screen that’s near to you, to something that’s farther away.
Sitting at the right distance from the screen is also a good idea: at least 50 cm away is often given as a suggestion. If you find you’re moving close to the screen and straining your eyes to see, you could try making the fonts (字体) on your screen larger.
____19____ A screen that’s too bright or too dark will make you strain (损伤) your eyes. But your device can help you with this. The idea is to reduce the amount of blue light that your eyes are getting, something that “night mode (夜间模式)” on your device does. ____20____
And don’t forget to blink (眨眼)! Blinking stops your eyes from getting dry and it can also help to reduce eye strain.
A. And some companies now sell blue light glasses that can help.
B. Make sure the screen is the right brightness, too.
C. This gives your eyes a break.
D. It will be bad for your eyes.

When Xiong Chuanfa, 34, blows a lifelike tiger out of sugar in just minutes, kids look at him in surprise, thinking he is a magician.
Xiong has been blowing sugar figurines (吹糖人) for over twenty years. Blowing sugar figurines is a traditional Chinese folk art with a history of over 600 years and has been listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产).
Every morning, Xiong prepares the sugar and drives to different markets in Nanchang to start his magic show.
He heats the sugar, pulls off a little to make a ball and blows it into different shapes—a rabbit, a monkey, and even a Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
People, especially little kids, are interested in his skills. To draw young people closer to the art, he also stops by colleges.
Many college students have been drawn to the art, waiting in line for hands-on experience. Among them, Simon, a foreign student, couldn’t help having a try. Though it looked easy, he found it difficult to make it. Thanks to Xiong’s help. Simon finally saw a horse slowly taking shape.
Simon was deeply moved after learning about the art. “I just can’t believe the traditional folk art be kept so well here. I love it. Chinese culture should be spread around the world.” he said.
This art has been passed down (传承) for four generations (代) in Xiong’s family. His 6-year-old son often blows sugar balloons, just like what he used to do as a child.

【答案】例文
Dear John,
How is everything going? You asked me about the changes in my study and living habits. Let me share them with you.
Good habits are very important because they can not only help us improve ourselves but also make it easier for us to achieve our dreams. First of all, I didn’t use to pay much attention in class, but now I listen to the teachers carefully and finish my homework on time. What’s more, I always stayed up late and seldom exercised in the past. Now I go to bed early and keep running every day. These positive changes make me healthier and learn better at school.
I believe the more good habits I have, the greater progress I will make.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hui

Now, she can experience new things together with her daughter at a night school.
A growing number of Chinese people go to night schools. They can get colourful courses from dancing and sports to wine tasting. These courses usually cost hardly anything. They have become popular among young people who want to look for new skills, hobbies and friends.
In the 1980s, many people studied at night schools for middle school courses. However, night schools disappeared because of the popularization (普及) of higher education. The latest fashion came to Shanghai last autumn, when more than 650,000 people competed for 10,000 places at the city’s night schools.
Night schools have also rapidly appeared in other cities. Miss Wang in Wuhan thinks night schools are good places to make friends. “I used to spend much of my time alone. Young people strongly wish to improve themselves and make their cultural lives colourful. That has made night schools popular.

9. According to the text, how many small monsters are there in the film?
A. Three. B. One. C. Two. D. Four.
10. What does the underlined word “frustrated” probably mean in Paragraph 3?
A. uncomfortable B. upset C. successful D. confident
11. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a reason for the film’s success?
A. Art style. B. Chinese culture.
C. A high score. D. Characters like us.
12. What can we learn from Nobody?
A. Only a strong person can be a hero. B. Giving up is the best choice.
C. Keeping trying makes a real hero. D. Famous stories are always better.

Mars is the fourth closest planet to the Sun. On 23 July 2020 China’s first Mars lander, Tianwen-1, was sent into space from Wenchang, Hainan Island.
13. How does the spacecraft Tianwen-1 get its name?
A. From questions to heaven. B. From the name of a scientist.
C. From a poem by Qu Yuan. D. From an ancient Chinese poet.
14. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A. Mars. B. The work. C. The spacecraft. D. The sky.
15. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A. When Tianwen-l landed on Mars. B. How Zhurong took photos of Mars.
C. Where Zhurong sent the information. D. What Tianwen-1 did in the year 2021.
16. What’s the best title for the text?
A. Tianwen’s task B. Travelling in space C. Exploring Mars D. Chinese astronauts’ dream

E. But if you have to use a computer for a week, what can you do to stay healthy?
