[高分范文背诵]
Dear John,
I'm more than delighted to receive your email, knowing that you're fascinated by the history of the Tang Dynasty.I'm writing to recommend a book entitled Back to the Tang Dynasty, which I happened to read recently.
Adopting a natural, chatty style of writing, the author of this popular book turns history into a story, which I bet is easy for you to understand.Additionally, the factual accuracy of the book is beyond doubt,as the author has referred to many academic books to check the facts. You can either borrow the book from the school library or order one online.
I sincerely hope that my recommendation can be of some help to you.
Yours,
Li Hua
片段1
From the sky fell the waterfall's high rising, thick mist. When in contact with sunlight, the sevencolored rainbow hung in the sky, which was very stunning.
瀑布从空中飞流直下,激荡起浓密的水雾。水雾与阳光相遇时,一道七色彩虹便悬于空中,令人印象深刻。
片段2
There's beauty in the woods, too, especially late in the fall.Sometimes you walk among the huge trees where the sunlight filters through. It's quiet and big, with touches of white and green and gold. And the silence is like that of church.
森林也是美丽的, 特别是晚秋的森林。有时候,你行走在阳光斑驳的高大林木间。森林装点着白色、绿色、和金黄色,深广而且寂静。这寂静就像教堂里的肃穆一样。

ABC mouse is one of the most wellknown learn to read apps for children. With its expertmade curriculum, the program offers endless hours of content for children aged 2 to 8.The interactive app offers thousands of activities to help develop this essential skill, with lessons that expose students to math, arts, and science at ageappropriate levels too.The cost after a free trial is around $15 per month.Families who purchase a full year's subscription can get about 70% off the price.
Homer
Homer provides a personalized learning path for children aged 2 to 8.Children will learn reading, math, creative thinking, and problemsolving skills in a fun and engaging way.Instead of a onesizefitsall approach,Homer customizes learning plans and allows students to take the lead in deciding what they want to work on.The price point is in line with similar apps at about $5 per month after a free trial,or roughly $60 for a full year or $100 for lifetime access.
Hooked on Phonics
Hooked on Phonics is an exceptional tool for homeschoolers, with a wide range of lessons, games, and fun activities. It is one of the most popular brands to teach kids to read, and its integrated system makes it an ideal option for homeschooling students.Children are introduced to each new concept through a series of fun activities, videos, and even songs. The system is a little bit pricier than other apps,at about $16 per month after a trial month for roughly $1.
Far Faria
Far Faria invites children to join in on a magical adventure that includes island hopping and the choice between reading the story or having it narrated completely with fun, magical animation. While the free membership offers one story a day, paid subscribers unlock access to unlimited adventures at roughly $8 per month.Readers can either read the books themselves or take advantage of the “read to me” option to have stories read aloud by professional narrators.

An injured hiker was rescued earlier this month after a train passenger spotted her from the window. She was crazily waving on the other side of a river, having just spent two days trapped in the wilderness with a broken leg.
The rider told the train crew, who then reported it to the train inspector,Henry Smith, who was in a motor car behind them.Henry was able to stop and communicate with the woman on the opposite bank of the river, which was freezing cold and moving quickly.
The hiker,a woman in her twenties, had been missing for two days. She said she'd intended to go on a day hike, but ended up falling 90 feet down a cliff face while trying to take pictures. She reportedly told rescuers that she lost consciousness for an unknown amount of time.Despite a badly broken leg,she struggled to pull herself to the bank of the river to try to flag down trains. She had no emergency supplies with her,or suitable clothing to spend the night outdoors. There had been a cold attack while the woman was trapped in the wilderness. The hiker described spending daylight hours trying to get the attention of passing trains and,at night, would roll herself into a nearby cliff face in an attempt to stay warm.
Henry called to request help for search and rescue. The operator who received the emergency call said the hiker's family had been looking for her. While they were waiting for the rescue team,Nick and Kylah,an engineer and a fireman on the next train passing by the location, came to help.327 passengers on the train waited on the track as they crossed the river to examine the woman's injuries and bring emergency supplies, blankets and a radio for communication.Eventually,a helicopter was sent to locate and rescue the hiker and she was transported safely to the hospital.

Most animals are active around people, which makes observing them in the wild a challenging effort for researchers. The issue is worsened with naturally shy creatures like emperor penguins, who show signs of physical sorrow in front of humans.
The French scientist Le Maho and his team began a project to test if sending tiny robots to collect the required information would affect the penguins as harmfully. They began by fitting 34 emperor penguins with outside heart rate monitors, which could be read from a distance of 60 centimeters. They then sent a simple, four wheeled robot into a place of hatching penguins that were stationary because they were using their legs to protect eggs.
Though the penguins were a little alarmed and even cried, they did allow the robot to read their heart monitors.Even more encouraging was the fact that as soon as the robot stopped moving, the penguins' heart rate returned to normal, much more rapidly than when humans entered the place.
However, for the extremely shy emperor penguins it was still too disturbing. After some discussions, their first attempt failed terribly.Fortunately, the scientists decided to try to cover the robot as a penguin chick for Le Maho's team,a British production company working on a news film, and it also tried getting into the penguin place using secret cameras. The two worked together to create a lovely chick robot that the emperor penguins immediately considered as one of their own.
Covered in soft fuzz just like a real baby emperor penguin,it is so believable that the chicks gather around it,just as they do with each other. The penguins not only accept the robot, but they even sing to it,and appear a little disappointed when the “chick” doesn't respond—an error the scientists plan to correct with the next group of robot penguins. Not surprisingly, the penguins show almost no stress as the lovely “spy” walks around the place, gathering all kinds of information about their daytoday lives.

The idea that we can have it all and do it all is not new. This myth has been spread for so long,I believe virtually everyone alive today is infected with it.It is sold in advertising. It is included in university applications that require dozens of extracurricular activities.
What is new is how especially damaging this myth is today,in a time when choices and expectations have increased exponentially (以指数方式).It results in stressed people trying to stuff more activities into their already overscheduled lives.
The word priority came into the English language in the 1400s.It was singular. It meant the very first or prior thing. It stayed singular for the next five hundred years.Only in the 1900s did we pluralize the term and start talking about priorities.Illogically,we reasoned that by changing the word we could bend reality.Somehow we would now be able to have multiple “first” things.People routinely try to do just that. This gave the impression of many things being the priority but actually meant nothing was.
When we don't purposefully and deliberately choose where to focus our energies and time, other people will choose for us,and before long we'll have lost sight of everything that is meaningful and important.
Once an Australian nurse named Bronnie Ware, who cared for people in the last twelve weeks of their lives, recorded their most often discussed regrets. At the top of the list: “I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.” Instead of reacting to the social pressures pulling you to go in a million directions, you will learn a way to focus on what is absolutely essential by getting rid of everything else completely.

As an author and journalist,I recognize how lucky I am to be following my childhood ambitions, but I would be lying if I said there aren't regular periods when that passion weakens. 16 Losing the spark for work may be a sign that you need to change careers, but such an extreme move is not always possible.Fortunately, recent studies show some practical strategies to reignite their passion and motivation.
Hold the belief that one's passion can be developed.According to a study by Patricia Chen, people's mindsets fall into two main parts. The fittheorists believe there is a job fit for every individual and finding the right job determines one's happiness and success at work. 17 They believe that passion is developed through a learning process within any chosen job.
Set small achievable goals.Chen's findings agree with other psychological researches. These studies suggest a few other ways of regaining your passion. One of the most useful techniques is “proximal (近端) goal setting”.This is particularly useful when you feel overwhelmed with a new big project,in which the challenge is so great, and the reward is so distant that you struggle to restart the fire. 18 Then they are much quicker to complete, allowing you to enjoy the warm feeling of satisfaction when you tick them off your plan.
19 Taking some time to think about our overall goals, looking for the benefits that our work is providing for others, reaching out to inspirational colleagues and setting out a plan with small rewards—these are simple actions that we could all take to boost our enthusiasm.
Take up a hobby. This could also give you a sense of purpose and achievement,so that your job is not the only place to find satisfaction in your life. 20
A.Take action.
B.Weigh up the pros and cons.
C.The developtheorists,in contrast,think differently.
D.It can undoubtedly cheer you up when work is just work.
E.Many people are losing their enthusiasm for the careers they once loved.
F.To apply this technique, you would split the project into bitesized tasks.
G.Setting a distant target to struggle to achieve can offer you a greater reward.

18.F [根据下文可知,为了更快完成,需要将项目进行划分,完成一个小项目后就删除一个小项目。F项“要应用这种技术,你可以将项目分成小任务”符合语境。F项中的“split the project into bitesize tasks”与空后的“tick them off your plan”相对应。故选E。]
19.A [根据本段最后一句的“these are simple actions that we could all take to boost our enthusiasm”可知,本段主要说的是要采取行动,A项“采取行动”符合语境,故选A。]
20.D [根据上文可知,只是把工作当成工作,你还有很多爱好。D项“当工作只是工作时,它无疑能让你振作起来”符合语境。故选D。]

By 1:30 in the afternoon,Codi was doing washing in the kitchen while chatting with Oliver when her condition drastically worsened. She felt a high fever, the sign of a possible infection. All of a sudden, she had a blackout, and her legs gave out.She fell onto the kitchen floor like a sack of sand.
