In today’s world, technology and inventions are not just for big cities or high-tech companies. They’re also changing the way we connect with neighbors. Many people in cities feel lonely and disconnected from those living around them. But thanks to some creative inventions, communities around the world are becoming warmer and warmer.
One such inventor, Li Ming, has turned this challenge into an opportunity to bring people together.
Li Ming, a 35-year-old engineer from Chengdu, found that neighbors seldom talked to each other. Encouraged by community-building campaigns(社区创建活动), he created a simple digital platform called “neighbor Link”. This easy-to-use app works like an online notice board. People can share skills, organize activities, and ask for help on it. They can also plan events like festival celebrations or skill-sharing classes, and help each other with daily tasks such as looking after pets or picking up packages(快递). In addition, the app is also designed for users of all ages. It has large fonts(字体) and clear icons(图标). People can also use voice to tell it what to do.
In just six months, more than 80% of people in Li Ming’s community have joined the app. Now neighbors often eat together, share their skills, and help those in need. An elderly resident, Grandma Wang, said: “I used to stay home alone every day. Now I’ve found friends to dance with every afternoon!”
Li Ming’s story shows that technology doesn’t need to be complicated(复杂的) to make a difference. When we pay attention to people’s needs and create simple, practical solutions, we can also be creative inventors. True creativity comes from the heart, and everyone has the power to be an inventor in their own community.

Learning is a key part of every student’s life. To achieve true success, it’s necessary to use effective methods and keep a positive attitude. Here are three useful ways to help you learn better.
Review with Space
Don’t study everything at once. If you do, you may forget it quickly. A more scientific way is to review what you learn again and again, with breaks in between. For example, you can review English words you learned after school, then again the next day, a few days later, and finally a week after that. This method works with your brain’s natural “forgetting curve(遗忘曲线)”. It helps to move knowledge from your short-term memory into long-term storage(储存). It’s a more useful way to save your time and help you remember what you’ ve learned.
Learn by Thinking-Even Silently
Passively(被动地)reading your notes is not enough. A research led by Professor Yang Chunliang at Beijing Normal University shows that “silent retrieval” is surprisingly useful. That is to say simply thinking about what you’ve learned without writing or speaking is useful. After studying, close your book and try to think about main ideas, recall(回忆) key points or answer questions silently. This helps you understand better and use knowledge in real life.
Believe You Can Improve
Your attitude matters. Believe that you can get better if you try. Science shows that your brain can grow stronger when you face difficulties. Instead of seeing challenges and mistakes as failures, view them as valuable chances to learn and grow. If something is hard, ask for help or practice more. Set small goals and give yourself a small gift when you make little progress. This keeps you going and being confident.
16. How will the “Review with Space” method help with people’s study according to the passage?
A. It helps people remember knowledge for a long time.
B It helps people remember only English words effectively.
C. It helps people learn more new knowledge in a short time.
D. It allows people to finish homework without any difficulty.
17. The underlined phrase “silent retrieval” in Paragraph 3 probably means ________.
A. reading notes aloud to remember them B. asking teachers for help silently
C. writing down key points secretly D. thinking about learned knowledge silently
18. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Passive reading is enough to understand knowledge well.
B. Your brain can’t grow stronger when facing difficulties.
C. You shouldn’t give yourself gifts even if you make progress.
D. The “Review with Space” method follows the brain’s forgetting curve.
19. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Effective learning only depends on hard work.
B. Making mistakes means you will never succeed in learning.
C. Students who use the right methods may learn more efficiently.
D. Short-term memory is more important than long-term memory.
20. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Learning by thinking silently.
B Three effective ways to help students learn better.
C. Why students should avoid passive reading.
D. How to set small goals in daily study.

Every year, millions of migratory birds (候鸟) fly long distances across the world, overcoming difficulties like storms and hunger to complete their journey. These birds are not only beautiful but also play a key role in nature, such as controlling insect populations and connecting different habitats (栖息地) around the world. However, a 2024 report by the IUCN (国际自然保护联盟) shows that 30% of migratory bird species have gone down in number, and 15% are endangered.
Migratory birds today face serious problems. Climate change is affecting their migration routes (迁移路线) and resting places. For example, Arctic terns (北极燕鸥) fly from the north to the south of the Earth every year, but now ice melts earlier. They have less time to raise their young babies. At the same time, the wetlands, places for them to rest and eat during their journey, are being changed to cities and farms.
Illegal hunting is another danger. In some areas, birds are caught for their feathers, meat, or to be sold as pets. In 2023, a large illegal hunting group in Southeast Asia was found to have killed more than 10,000 migratory birds in just half a year.
Thankfully, people around the world are acting to protect these birds. The “Wings of Hope” campaign started in 2024 to encourage all people and organizations to protect migratory birds. Volunteers have built man-made wetlands and feeding stations along migration routes. In China, local groups run “bird watching stations” to watch over the birds. Scientists also use GPS trackers (追踪器) to study their migration routes in order to protect their habitats.
All living creatures share the same Earth. Migratory birds remind us how beautiful and fragile (脆弱的) our planet is. Protecting them is not just about saving birds; it is about keeping the Earth healthy for our children.
21. How does the writer introduce the topic in Paragraph 1?
A. By using a famous saying. B. By asking questions.
C. By presenting numbers. D. By showing opinions.
22. What problem do Arctic terns face because of climate change?
A. They only have places for resting.
B. They don’t have more time to raise their young babies.
C. Their GPS trackers often stop working in cold areas.
D. They are easily caught by illegal hunters.
23. Why are migratory birds caught in some areas?
A. To protect them from natural enemies.
B. To study their migration routes.
C. To increase their population in local areas.
D. For their meat, feathers, or to be sold as pets.
24. What is the structure of the passage?
A. ①/②③④/⑤ B. ①②③④/⑤ C. ①/②③/④/⑤ D. ①②/③④/⑤
25. In which part of a newspaper can we probably find this passage?
A. Nature. B. Travel. C. Culture. D. Sports.
