My Colorful Hometown
My hometown is in Guizhou Province, located in the beautiful southwest of China. It’s famous for its stunning natural scenery and rich culture.
One of the most famous places here is the Huangguoshu Waterfall. It’s the largest waterfall in Asia, and the water sounds like thunder when it falls. Another special place is Qingyan Ancient Town, where you can see old stone streets and traditional buildings.
The climate in my hometown is wet and rainy, which keeps everything green and fresh. We have many delicious foods too, like sour fish soup and sticky rice cakes.
I love my hometown because it’s full of life and beauty. Welcome to Guizhou—the most colorful place in China!

My sister Priscilla and I just came back from a week-long vacation in Portugal. When I thought back on the wonderful things about my trip, something that happened on our 16 day in Lisbon came to mind.
Before the trip, I put together a very detailed list of 17 . One of the must-visits on my list was Livraria do Simão, one of the 18 bookshops in the world. On our very first day in Lisbon, Priscilla and I searched for it. 19 the bookshop was too small to find. Our schedule was jam-packed and we probably wouldn’t have time to look for it.
On our last afternoon in Lisbon, Priscilla and I decided to visit a historic flea market We walked for about an hour, up 20 hills. When we finally reached the market—completely out of breath—all the sellers were closing up shops. We were tired, hungry and more than a little anxious.
Priscilla and I fought about the directions. I insisted (坚持) we turn right, which ended up being a 21 decision. We were completely lost. When Priscilla stopped to check the map, I 22 at the street sign, Rua da Madalena. I’d heard that name before. We continued a little farther up the street. There was something strangely familiar about it. I looked closer. There was a small shop hidden in the alleyway (小巷). It had 23 in its windows ...
“Livraria do Simão? The bookshop!” I said to Priscilla. Luckily, the owner was about to leave.
He led 24 inside the bookshop, which was no bigger than a walk-in closet So Priscilla had to wait outside. There was a desk at one end and shelves lined with books all around. “Here, come and sit at the desk.” the man said. “See what it’s like to work here.” I sat down and Priscilla took my photo.
Headed on our way back, I couldn’t stop smiling. We hadn’t just visited the smallest bookshop in Lisbon; we’d met the owner and taken a tour 25 !

Travel is like a box of chocolates—you never know what you’re going to get, especially when you are using a blind box plane ticket.
Fan Zhihua, who enjoys going wherever she wants and whenever she wants, bought her first blind box plane ticket in March last year. The 29-year-old went to Zhangye, Gansu Province. It’s a lesser-known place, but it actually brings surprises.
When Fan arrived in Zhangye, she found that she was able to share a car with a few other people. This allowed the travelers to save money, since many of the area’s tourist places are far away from each other. So Fan found a group of easy-going young women to join. They went some tourist places together, but everyone was free to choose their schedule “The best part of the trip is this way of travelling, free and fantastic,” Fan said.
She got more from the trip. Before that, Fan thought most of the natural scenery (风景) she saw in photos was over- beautified. However, her trip to Dunhuang changed her mind.
After a couple of days in Zhangye, the group decided to leave for Dunhuang. Fan was never a big fan of making travel plans, so she just went along. Fan and her travel pals went on a camel (骆驼) ride, and as they entered the desert, she was amazed at the scenery. “I couldn’t describe it in words. To be honest, I’m not a history lover, but when I was in the endless desert, it was amazing,” Fan said, “I felt like I had become Zhang Qian, traveling to Xiyu.”
Fan believes that life itself is a journey made up of long and short trips. “I think I was brought into this world to have as many experiences as possible and that I should make every day meaningful,” she added.

Chinatown is the name given to an area in the middle of London. It is a large Chinese community (社区) with a lot of Chinese restaurants, Chinese supermarkets and shops.
In the 1950s, it was a poor area and everything was very cheap. At the same time, the world rice market changed and thousands of farm workers in Hong Kong lost their jobs. They began arriving in London to look for work. They found jobs in the restaurants in this area.
These restaurant workers often worked 17 hours a day and had no time to learn English. As more Chinese arrived, more shops and businesses grew. Wives came and joined their husbands and children came and joined their fathers. The community grew, and Chinatown was born.
In the 1970s and 1980s, British-born Chinese started to have a better education and this brought economic (经济的) success to the area. Many families moved out of Chinatown, and there was more space for businesses. Chinatown soon became a popular place for tourists.
Now everyone knows about London’s Chinatown. During the Chinese New Year, the streets are filled with flags and thousands of Chinese go into the streets. For most of the year, though, Londoners and tourists go there mainly for the food in the Chinese restaurants. The best restaurants are the ones where the Chinese eat.

In the countries all over the world, people are leaving the countryside in large numbers to find jobs in the cities. They leave because the countryside is much poorer than the city. 61 Services such as hospitals and transport are usually much better in cities than they are in the countryside. They hope that their lives will improve when they move to the city.
But in the big cities of Europe and America, people are moving out of the city. These are usually families who have some money, and want to live a quieter life. 62 They are tired of the crowded streets, crowded trains and buses. They don’t want to sit in traffic any more. They want a house with a garden, and clean air that isn’t polluted.
So they move out. Some don’t go very far, just a little way out of the city, to the towns near the cities, and other people move to the real countryside with sheep and cows and green fields! 63
Not all those who move from the city to the countryside are happy. After two or three years, many people who have done this feel that it was a big mistake. They don’t make so much money and there isn’t much work to do. 64
As a result, quite a lot of people who have moved to the countryside move back to the city. “It’s wonderful to see crowds in the streets and cinema lights,” they say, “ 65 ”
A.We’ll never leave the countryside!
B.I’m so glad that I’m back in the city!
C.And often there isn’t much work there.
D.They are tired of the noise and the dirt of the city.
E.Most old people prefer to stay in their hometown.

由上文“I was afraid of going to the top...”
standing动词现在分词,不能作谓语;were standing过去进行时;are standing现在进行时;will stand一般将来时。

On our last afternoon in Lisbon, Priscilla and I decided to visit a historic flea market We walked for about an hour, up 20 hills. When we finally reached the market—completely out of breath—all the sellers were closing up shops. We were tired, hungry and more than a little anxious.
