第二部分阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Producing and consuming clothing is a major source of global CO2 emissions (排放). From growing cotton to dyeing (染色) fabrics, every step in the clothing supply chain leaves a carbon footprint. Much of the impact comes from energy-intensive industrial processes. Here’s a breakdown of the emissions in 2020 across different stages of clothing production.
Making clothes more sustainable isn’t just about cutting emissions — it’s also about choosing the right materials. Fabrics need to be not only comfortable and affordable, but also long-lasting and low-impact. Each material has its own challenges and environmental cost. While no perfect solution exists yet, a range of alternatives are emerging.
COTTON——Organic cotton
Grown without harmful chemicals, organic cotton uses far less water and energy, helping reduce pollution and protect the soil.
POLYESTER (聚酯纤维)—Recycled polyester
Developed through eco-efficient production, recycled polyester lowers reliance on non-renewable fuels.
WOOL—Responsible wool
Improved land use and animal care reduce methane (甲烷) emissions from sheep farming and cut wool’s environmental cost.
LEATHER—Plant-based leather
Made from mushrooms or pineapple leaves, plant leather offers cruelty-free alternatives to traditional leather.
RAYON (人造丝)—Certified sustainable rayon
Sourced from managed forests, certified rayon helps prevent deforestation and protects biodiversity.
This shift toward sustainable fashion is global, and the extent of transformation needed is “unlike anything we’ve seen before,” says Stella McCartney, a pioneer in ethical (道德上的) fashion design. It’s estimated that fashion consumption could grow by 60% by 2030, putting even more pressure on resources. Still, experts believe that circular design and material innovation can drive real change, keeping pace with the sweeping trend of energy conservation and emission reduction. “The future of fashion is restorative and regenerative by design,” says McCartney.
21. Which stage released the least amount of greenhouse gases in 2020?
A. Fibre production. B. Yarn preparation. C. Fabric production. D. Distribution.
22. What do these alternatives have in common?
A. They help protect biodiversity.
B. They aim to lessen environmental impact.
C. They require less energy during production.
D. They could reduce the emission of harmful gases.
23. What does McCartney stress regarding the future of fashion?
A. It is to last and adapt.
B. It is to reduce resource usage.
C. It is to meet various needs.
D. It is to encourage consumption.
B
Ekaterina Sky, a wildlife conservation artist, inspires people to reconnect with nature and animals through her work. Her love for animals led her to become a vegan(素食者), and she uses art as a creative outlet to promote kindness to all life. The fact that her work carries such an important message for the planet makes her paintings even more beautiful and moving.
“I can feel the suffering of our planet and the pain that is being caused to animals,” she said. “My mission is to speak up for those who can’t.”
Ekaterina began her art journey at The School of Fine Arts in Yaroslavl, Russia. There she completed a fine arts program, which gave her the background she needed to become a conservation artist. She also received a scholarship to The Art School of Museum of Tel-Aviv. There, she expanded upon her knowledge and skills, learning to create her own unique style.
Recently, Ekaterina went on a tour to different countries worldwide, painting murals(壁画)of various endangered species. With each mural, she made the audience look directly into the animals’ eyes. This helps them connect more with the animals and perhaps helps them realize their interconnectedness with the animals. “Each animal was colorful to highlight their uniqueness and individuality,” Ekaterina said.
Her main goal is to connect people with animals, even in the most crowded urban places. We have greatly lost our connection to Mother Earth and all the creatures who inhabit it. Ekaterina’s work can help raise awareness about the fact that we all have to coexist here. She says our urban lifestyles make us forget about all the endangered species that we can help protect by making different choices.
“As I believe, we connect through our eyes, which are windows into our soul, and I believe that when we get to meet someone's soul, we don't have a heart to hurt them,” Ekaterina said.
24. What inspires Ekaterina Sky to create art?
A. Her childhood. B. Her love for animals. C. Her scholarships. D. Her travels.
25. What is the focus of paragraph 3?
A. Ekaterina’s educational background in art.
B. The achievements of Ekaterina's unique artistic style.
C. The reasons why Ekaterina wanted to be a conservation artist.
D. The impact of Ekaterina's art on wildlife conservation efforts.
26. How does Ekaterina Sky’s art work contribute to wildlife conservation?
A. By raising funds. B. By providing scientific data.
C. By increasing public awareness. D. By influencing the local policy.
27. What can we learn from Ekaterina’s words in the last paragraph?
A. Art doesn’t influence people’s feelings .
B. Urban life helps protect endangered species.
C. She seeks to expose environmental harm.
D. She trusts our eyes link us to animals through art.

Jason, a straight-A student from the University of Pennsylvania, uses the term “pseudo-working” to describe how many of us study. The pseudo-worker looks and feels like someone who is working hard — he or she spends a long time in the library and is not afraid to push on late into the night — but, because of a lack of focus and concentration, he or she doesn’t actually accomplish much.
This phenomenon can be seen in most colleges. For example, at Dartmouth there was a section of the main library that was open twenty-four hours a day and the students I used to see in there late at night crowded in groups, drinking coffee, were definitely pseudo-working.
By placing themselves in distracting environments and insisting on working long hours, these students are damaging their brain’s ability to think clearly and efficiently to accomplish the task at hand. In the end they get half the results with twice the effort.
The bigger problem here is that most students don’t even realize that they’re pseudo-working. To them pseudo-working is work — it’s how they’ve always done it, and it’s how all of their friends do it. It never crosses their mind that there might be a better way. Straight-A students, on the other hand, know all about pseudo-working. They fear it, and for good reason it not only wastes time, but it’s also mentally tiring.
In fact, the most important skill in becoming a better student is the ability to get work done quickly and with a minimum of wasted effort. Some cognitive science research concludes that about 50 minutes is the optimal learning period to maximize the material learned per time unit.
So how can students manage to study efficiently? One key factor is captured in the following simple formula: work accomplished = time spent×intensity of focus. Pseudo-working features a very low intensity of focus. Therefore, to accomplish something by pseudo-working, you need to spend a lot of time. The straight-A approach, on the other hand, maximizes intensity in order to minimize time.
28. Which of the following phenomenon is an example of pseudo-working?
A. Tom is busy taking notes while attending a lecture.
B. Alice and Sara are sitting on the sofa reading their favorite books.
C. Mike is sitting in the study room in preparation for a final exam quietly.
D. Jack spends a long time in the library on his essay while listening to music.
29. What can be inferred from paragraph 3 and 4?
A. Straight-A students believe some tasks are worth twice the effort.
B. Too much thinking may weaken the brain’s ability of the students.
C. Negative effects of pseudo-working are not fully realized by many students.
D. Students will get good grades once they realize that pseudo-working is ineffective.
30. What does the underlined word “optimal’ mean in paragraph 5?
A. Longest. B. Best. C. Least. D. Effective.
31. Why does the author mention the formula in the text?
A. To show the benefit of working hard.
B. To prove the necessity of accomplishing work.
C. To emphasize the importance of concentration.
D. To explain the reason for spending much time.
D
Recent research challenges decades of belief about money and happiness. While past studies claimed wealth weakly affects happiness in rich nations, new findings prove income comparison powerfully shapes joy. The key is “relative wealth” — feeling richer than others brings more happiness than high income or education alone.
Researchers analyzed 357 global surveys covering 2.3 million people. Participants ranked themselves on a 10-level “status ladder (地位等级)” comparing their position to society. Results revealed social comparison drives over 70% of money’s impact on happiness — far outweighing actual resources. “Money gains power when measured against others,” explains lead researcher Dr. Lee.
The researchers also found that the effect of social comparison was stronger in countries, such as Singapore. Resource competition forces constant social evaluation. Yet upward comparisons often backfire. As Mark Twain observed, “Comparison is the death of joy.” Having just a little more money than your parents doesn’t bring much satisfaction, because nowadays the neighbors are clearly much wealthier.
Critically, economic growth sometimes fails to improve national happiness. Why? The study suggests unequal progress makes many feel left behind despite personal gains. True well-being requires advancing both personally and relatively within society’s position ladder. Lawmakers thus must balance wealth creation with fair competition policies.
32. How does the study measure “relative wealth”?
A. By measuring education levels. B. By using a 10-level status ladder.
C. By researching job satisfaction forms. D. By analyzing spending habits.
33. Why does the author mention Mark Twain’s words?
A. To criticize social comparison. B. To claim historical wisdom is outdated.
C. To emphasize Singapore’s uniqueness. D. To indicate money’s declining importance.
34. What can be inferred about traditional economic policies?
A. They overvalue absolute income growth. B. They effectively use social comparison.
C. They prioritize education over wealth. D. They ignore resource competition.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Absolute Wealth: Real Path to Happiness
B. Why Money Fails to Buy Joy in Modern Society
C. The Hidden Power of Relative Wealth Comparison
D. Education vs. Income: New Research Findings

Anthony, a 16-year-old student at Lancaster High School near Buffalo, loved playing basketball. He was known among his classmates for being funny and friendly. However, when his school added a new task to learn first-aid knowledge, especially CPR (心肺复苏), Anthony didn’t like the idea at all.
The school had organized several first-aid classes as part of the health course. Anthony thought the lessons were a waste of time. He believed such skills were only helpful in very rare situations and that he would never need them. But his good friend David thought differently. David was very interested in the classes and kept telling Anthony how important first-aid skills were. “Anthony, you never know when these skills might be useful,” David said again and again. “It’s better to be prepared than regret it later.” Under David’s encouragement, Anthony decided to give it a try. Although the training was harder than Anthony expected, both he and David did a good job. “You’re really good at this!” David laughed as Anthony correctly placed his hands on the mannequin (人体模型) for CPR practice.
Late on Wednesday night, March 19, Anthony’s CPR skills were suddenly put to the test. His stepfather, Michael, who had a family history of heart disease, suddenly collapsed at the bottom of the stairs. Their barking dogs woke up his mother, Jennifer. She ran to find her husband unconscious and, completely panicked, called for Anthony’s help.
Anthony rushed downstairs and saw his stepfather lying on the floor, not moving. His mother was panicking, unsure of what to do. She cried, “Oh no, what do I do? What do I do?” After she called 911, the operator on the phone told her to start CPR immediately. Jennifer was too scared and overwhelmed to act, but Anthony, who had learned CPR just weeks earlier, quickly stepped in.

M: Hi Paula, I’ve been doing well. I’m working in a bank in the administrative area and how are you? I heard you’ve been to another country. Tell me about it.
W: Yes, I just came back from South Africa. I was there volunteering at a nature preserve. The project I worked on was about wildlife protection. I collected relevant information on lions, elephants and other animals.
M: That sounds great. You must have learned a lot.
W: Yes, Mark. When I was there, I had the opportunity to see the animals in their natural habitat. I tracked and recorded their movements, behaviour and ecological impacts on the species. I’ve learned a lot. It is meaningful.
Text 9:
W: How’s the decorating going in your room, Tim? Is it finished yet?
M: It’s going okay. Come in and have a look at the changes.
W: Wow, it looks completely different. I can’t believe my eyes. You’ve taken out the spare bed. I guess your mom was happy with that. She thought it didn’t look good to put something here, didn’t she?
M: Well, it was quite old, so she thought it was time to make some changes. We painted the walls, too.
W: Yeah, you chose purple. Is it your favorite color?
M: Hmm, it made the room darker, but I don’t mind that. It means I can see my computer screen better.
W: I’m looking forward to changing my room, too. The thing is, whatever I do with it, I can’t find enough space for all my things.
M: That’s because you’ve got so many clothes. My room was full, too. I stored some things under my bed, but that didn’t improve it much. Oh, you can give the clothes you don’t wear to people who need them.
W: Good idea.

【答案】28. D 29. C 30. B 31. C
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍“伪学习”现象的表现、危害及高效学习的方法。
【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中的“The pseudo-worker looks and feels like someone who is working hard — he or she spends a long time in the library and is not afraid to push on late into the night — but, because of a lack of focus and concentration, he or she doesn’t actually accomplish much.(伪学习者看起来和感觉上都像是在努力学习的人——他或她在图书馆花很长时间,不怕熬夜到很晚——但由于缺乏专注和集中,他或她实际上并没有完成多少事情。)”可知,伪学习的特点是花费大量时间但注意力不集中,收效甚微。杰克在图书馆花很长时间写论文却听着音乐,符合这一特征。故选D项。
【29题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中的“By placing themselves in distracting environments and insisting on working long hours, these students are damaging their brain’s ability to think clearly and efficiently to accomplish the task at hand.(这些学生把自己置于容易分心的环境中,坚持长时间学习,这损害了他们清晰高效地思考以完成手头任务的能力。)”以及第四段中的“The bigger problem here is that most students don’t even realize that they’re pseudo-working.(更大的问题是,大多数学生甚至没有意识到自己在伪学习。)”可知,伪学习有负面影响,但很多学生并未完全意识到。故选C项。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第五段中的“Some cognitive science research concludes that about 50 minutes is the optimal learning period to maximize the material learned per time unit.(一些认知科学研究得出结论,大约50分钟是optimal学习时间,以最大限度地提高每单位时间所学的材料。)”可知,对于学习来说,提高效率非常重要,为了效率的最大化,50分钟的时间应该是“最适合的”或者“最佳的”,所以,“optimal”的意思与Best意义相近。故选B项。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段中的“One key factor is captured in the following simple formula: work accomplished = time spent×intensity of focus. Pseudo-working features a very low intensity of focus. Therefore, to accomplish something by pseudo-working, you need to spend a lot of time. The straight-A approach, on the other hand, maximizes intensity in order to minimize time.(以下简单公式体现了一个关键因素:完成的工作量=花费的时间×专注强度。伪学习的特点是专注强度很低。因此,通过伪学习来完成某件事,你需要花费大量时间。另一方面,优等生的方法是最大限度地提高专注强度,以最小化时间。)”可知,作者提到这个公式是为了强调专注的重要性,专注强度高才能在更少时间内完成更多工作。故选C项。
【答案】32. B 33. A 34. A 35. C

根据文章第二段中的“Participants ranked themselves on a 10-level “status ladder (地位等级)” comparing their position to society.(参与者在一个10级的“地位等级”上对自己进行排名,将自己的地位与社会地位进行比较。)”可知,该研究通过使用一个10级的地位等级来衡量“相对财富”。故选B。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段中“Yet upward comparisons often backfire. As Mark Twain observed, ‘Comparison is the death of joy.’(然而,向上的比较往往会适得其反。正如马克·吐温所观察到的,“比较是快乐的死敌。”)”可知,作者提到马克·吐温的话是为了强调社会比较带来的负面影响,即批评社会比较。故选A。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中的“Critically, economic growth sometimes fails to improve national happiness. Why? The study suggests unequal progress makes many feel left behind despite personal gains. True well-being requires advancing both personally and relatively within society’s position ladder.(重要的是,经济增长有时并不能提高国民幸福感。为什么?研究表明,尽管个人有所收获,但不平等的发展让许多人感到被甩在后面。真正的幸福需要在社会的地位阶梯上个人和相对地位都得到提升。)”以及“Lawmakers thus must balance wealth creation with fair competition policies.(因此,立法者必须在创造财富和公平竞争政策之间取得平衡。)”可以推断出,传统的经济政策可能过于重视绝对收入的增长,而忽视了相对财富和社会公平的重要性。故选A。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据文章的主要内容,特别是第一段中的“The key is ‘relative wealth’ — feeling richer than others brings more happiness than high income or education alone.(关键是“相对财富”——感觉比别人更富有比单纯的高收入或高教育带来更多的幸福感。)”以及全文围绕“相对财富”对社会幸福感的影响展开讨论,可以得出文章的主旨是探讨相对财富比较的隐藏力量。C选项“The Hidden Power of Relative Wealth Comparison(相对财富比较的隐性力量)”概括文章主要内容,符合标题。故选C。

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

After spending a week in the hospital, Michael was able to return home.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Anthony started performing CPR on his stepfather. Remembering the lessons from the health class, he carefully kept the right rhythm. For about eight minutes, he pressed on his stepfather’s chest and tried to keep him stable even when his pulse grew weaker. Anthony refused to give up and continued his effort until his stepfather finally started breathing again. Exhausted but relieved, Anthony stepped back as the rescue workers arrived. They immediately rushed Michael to the hospital. Doctors later confirmed that Anthony’s quick actions saved his stepfather’s life and also prevented serious brain damage while waiting for help to come.
After spending a week in the hospital, Michael was able to return home. He was deeply thankful for Anthony’s quick response. “I’m so lucky to have him here,” Michael said, giving Anthony a big hug. Anthony also realized the importance of learning CPR and first-aid skills. He thanked his friend David for encouraging him to learn. “If it weren’t for all this, I don’t think I would have learned CPR, and Michael might not have survived,” Anthony admitted. This whole experience didn’t just save his stepfather’s life, but it also made Anthony truly believe in the value of learning first-aid knowledge. Now, whenever Anthony runs into David, he smiles, “Thanks for making me take those lessons, David. You were right all along.”

I hope this gives you a glimpse of the event. I can’t wait to hear about any similar events you might have in New Zealand.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

One possible version:
Anthony started performing CPR on his stepfather.
