B During the lively Paris Olympics, while the spotlight shone on the athletes, a group of unsung heroes worked tirelessly behind the scenes — the Olympic volunteers. This year, out of 300,000 applicants, around 45,000 were chosen as volunteers, with 20 percent coming from nearly 150 countries. These volunteers wore bright green uniforms (制服) to be easily noticed in the purple venues (场馆). They offered help to viewers and media alike, making them an important part of the Olympic experience. On my first day as a reporter, I met a technical problem with my media system account. Thankfully, Chinese volunteer Guo came to help me out. “I hope to improve my language, communication skills, and problem- solving methods through this event,” said 24-year-old Guo from Wuhan, Central China’s Hubei Province, who was studying wireless communication at the Paris Institute of Digital Technology. As a former professional swimmer, Guo saw this as her chance to take part in the Olympics, though in a different role. Another Chinese volunteer, Yang, faced challenges in managing her job and volunteer duties. Despite giving up her holidays, she felt great pride in contributing to the event. One of my most memorable experiences was meeting with a French volunteer. When I needed help to find the visitor center, a young man on a scooter (小型摩托车) appeared, like a sort of “Monkey King riding a cloud”, and offered to take me there. After helping me, he expressed his admiration for the Beijing Olympics and his desire to visit China again. Volunteers like them were seen everywhere — from bus stops to competition venues — offering directions and helping with a smile. When large crowds left the venues after the events, causing overcrowding, some volunteers sat on high chairs with loudspeakers, providing directions to go outside in both English and French with a smile. These amazing volunteers, truly show the Olympic spirit, making the event and Paris shine even brighter. 4. Why might the volunteers wear bright green uniforms? A. To stand out in the crowd. B. To show love for athletes. C. To fit in with the venues. D. To stand for their countries. 5. What do we know about Guo? A. She found it hard to balance her job and volunteer work. B. She both swam and volunteered in the Paris Olympics. C. She wanted to improve herself through volunteer work. D. She wasn’t as patient and helpful as the French volunteer. 6. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To doubt the organization of the Paris Olympics, B. To praise the service of Paris Olympic volunteers. C. To show the meaning of hosting Olympic Games. D. To provide a detailed schedule of Olympic events. 7. How is the text mainly developed? A. By listing the benefits of volunteer work. B. By discussing historical Olympic events. C. By comparing different views on Olympics. D. By sharing personal stories and experiences. C If you often exercise, there is a good chance for you to be more creative, according to a study of the links between physical activity and imagination. The study finds that active people come up with more and better ideas during tests of their inventiveness. It has been proved that physical activity influences our thinking. Many studies show that our brains go through changes in response to physical activity, for during exercise our brains take in more blood, oxygen and nutrients (营养物), thus producing more new brain cells than those who don’t exercise. In this way, exercise raises our moods (情绪) and is likely to improve our abilities to reason and remember. However, creativity is an abstract (抽象的) thinking skill, whose relationship with exercise has not been clear. Some past research suggested exercise does not directly affect creative thinking. To learn more about how being active could possibly affect creativity, researchers at the University of Graz tracked the normal activities of a group of healthy adults. They equipped these volunteers with activity trackers for five days. Then they asked them to visit the lab. The researchers then rated their output on its creativity and other measures. The volunteers also completed standardized questionnaires about their moods. The scientists found that the most active of the volunteers proved to be also the most creative, especially if they often walked or exercised properly. They are also likely to be in high spirits, although their moods were highest if they took part in energetic activities, rather than average ones. However, the link between activity, creativity and moods was light. This suggested that it was not improved moods, but physical activity, that had a greater influence on creativity. The study didn’t take people’s whole lives into account and cannot tell us how exercise and other activities might shape creativity, if not by raising moods. But the results do suggest that active imaginations start with active lives. 8. How does physical activity change our brains? A. By making more brain cells. B. By responding to thinking. C. By supplying more nutrients. D. By increasing blood pressure. 9. What does Paragraph 4 mainly focus on? A. The purpose of the study. B. The process of the study. C. The findings of the study. D. The subjects of the study. 10. What do we know from Paragraph 5? A. Those doing more energetic exercise are the most creative. B. People’s moods are closely connected with their creativity. C. Exercise plays a more important role in shaping creativity. D. Effortless physical activities make people more creative. 11. What is the most suitable title for the passage? A. Is Exercise Good for Your Mental Health? B. Can Exercise Make You More Creative? C. What Makes You More Imaginative? D. How Exercise Improves Your Mood? D A recent survey found children would rather be online influencers than astronauts. It made headlines and led to plenty of complaints about “kids these days”. Is influencing a promising career path? The lifestyles we see advertised on social media are enticing, but under the shining appearance lie uncertain income, pay inequality, disability and mental health issues. Successful influencers will be the first to claim that anyone can make it in the industry. However, social media economy experts uncovered a huge income gap between successful influencers and everyone else. For most people trying to become an influencer, their passion projects of content creation often become free work for brands. Most influencers are self-employed, often experiencing inconsistent income and a lack of protection that comes with long-term employment. The risks of self-employment are increased in the influencer industry by an absence of industry standards and little pay transparency(透明度). Influencers are often forced to assess their own value and determine fees for their work. As a result, content creators often undervalue their own creative labour, and many end up working for free. Influencers are also often at the mercy of algorithms (运算法则) — the behind-the-scenes computer programs that determine which posts are shown, in which order, to users. Platforms share little detail about their algorithms, yet they finally determine who and what gains visibility and influence on social media, the threat of invisibility is a constant source of insecurity for influencers, who are under constant pressure to feed platforms with content. If they don’t, they may be “punished” by the algorithm-having posts hidden or displayed lower down on search results. Constant online presence leads to one of the most common issues in the influencer industry: mental health concerns. Influencers can connect to their platform workspaces and audience at any time of day or night, which can lead to them overworking. Coupled with the fear of online criticism, it contributes to mental and physical health issues. Although becoming an influencer may look appealing to more and more people, the industry’s dark underside needs to be made visible and improved through enhanced employment regulation and industry-led cultural change. 12. What does the underlined word “enticing” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Imaginative B. Similar C. Traditional D. Attractive 13. What might lead to many influencers undervaluing their creative work? A. Their belief in winning through quantity. B. Money paid by the industry is often hidden. C. Their eagerness to make their work visible online. D. There’re few employment opportunities in the industry. 14. Why do the influencers feel stressed according to paragraph 4? A. They are often punished by platforms. B. They have little knowledge of platform algorithm. C. They find it difficult to create new content constantly. D. They have to work out the order of posts to be displayed. 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing this text? A. To describe the life of self-employed content creators. B. To stress the importance of visibility in the online world. C. To reveal relationships between platforms and influencers. D. To show the dark side of working as an online content creator. 第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2. 5分,满分12. 5分) Whether you’re an open person that has no fear of talking to strangers on the street, or the polar opposite(相反的), there are ways to deal with a culture shock. 8 How does physical activity change our brains? A 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段中“Many studies show that our brains go through changes in response to physical activity, for during exercise our brains take in more blood, oxygen and nutrients (营养物), thus producing more new brain cells than those who don’t exercise.( 许多研究表明,我们的大脑会对体育活动做出反应而发生变化,因为在锻炼过程中,我们的大脑会吸收更多的血液、氧气和营养,从而产生比不锻炼的人更多的新脑细胞)”可知,体育活动通过产生更多的脑细胞来改变我们的大脑。故选A项。 根据第四段“To learn more about how being active could possibly affect creativity, researchers at the University of Graz tracked the normal activities of a group of healthy adults. They equipped these volunteers with activity trackers for five days. Then they asked them to visit the lab. The researchers then rated their output on its creativity and other measures. The volunteers also completed standardized questionnaires about their moods.(为了进一步了解活跃如何影响创造力,格拉茨大学的研究人员追踪了一组健康成年人的正常活动。他们给这些志愿者配备了5天的活动追踪器。然后他们请他们参观实验室。然后,研究人员根据他们的创造力和其他指标对他们的产出进行评级。志愿者还完成了关于他们情绪的标准化问卷)”可知,本段详细描述了研究过程,包括给志愿者配备活动追踪器、让他们访问实验室、对创造力和其他指标进行评分以及完成标准化情绪问卷等。因此,本段重点介绍了研究的过程。故选B项。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第五段中“However, the link between activity, creativity and moods was light. This suggested that it was not improved moods, but physical activity, that had a greater influence on creativity. (然而,活动、创造力和情绪之间的联系并不紧密。这表明,对创造力有更大影响的不是情绪的改善,而是体育活动)”可推知,运动在塑造创造力方面发挥着更重要的作用。故选C项。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第一段中“If you often exercise, there is a good chance for you to be more creative, according to a study of the links between physical activity and imagination. (根据一项关于体育活动与想象力之间联系的研究,如果你经常锻炼,你很有可能变得更有创造力)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要围绕体育活动与创造力之间的关系进行阐述,介绍了相关研究及其发现。因此,B项“运动能让你更有创造力吗?”最能概括文章主旨,最适合作为本文标题。故选B项。 D A recent survey found children would rather be online influencers than astronauts. Influencers are also often at the mercy of algorithms (运算法则) — the behind-the-scenes computer programs that determine which posts are shown in which order, to users. D 13. B 14. B 15. 文章第三段讲到“Most influencers are self-employed, often experiencing inconsistent income and a lack of protection that comes with long-term employment.
