9A Unit8 Detective stories Integrated skills: The kidnapping Step1: Lead-in Free talk: If someone has been kidnapped, what will you do and who will you ask for help? Now a child called Guan Fei has been kidnapped. His father, Guan Dawei asked the police for help. Today we will learn Unit8 Detective stories Integrated skills: The kidnapping. Step2: Presentation 1. Look at our teaching aims: 1).To listen and get useful information from the tape. 2).To use information to complete notes and a report on the kidnapping case. 3). To talk about some safety tips to keep safe and stop crime. 4). To improve the students’ listening and speaking abilities. 2. Before listening: A police officer made some notes. Please read his notes and answer the following questions: ①Who is the victim? Guan Fei. ②How old is the victim? Four years old. ③When did the crime happen? Between 7p.m. and 8p.m. on 28 December. ④Who are suspects? Wang Gang and Fan Yiming Read the notes and complete part of the suspect’s profiles. 3. Listening: A2. If the police officer wants to find out who was the kidnapper, he should interview the two suspects. Here’re the police officer’s interviews with them. Listen to their interviews carefully and complete the suspects’ profiles on Part A1, on Page 115. The police officer wants his assistant to write a report on the kidnapping case. Please help him complete Part A3. Use the notes and profiles on page 115 to help you. REPORT ON THE KIDNAPPING CASE Sometime between (1)7p.m. and (2)8p.m. on 28 December, Guan Dawei’s (3)son, Guan Fei was kidnapped. The victim is (4)four years old and about (5)1.1 meters tall. He was wearing a (6)red T-shirt, a brown (7)jacket and blue (8)trousers. One suspect is (9)Wang Gang. He has once (10)in prison for six months. He is a (11)postman and has known Guan Dawei for (12)about seven years. However, he (13)doesn’t know the boy who was kidnapped. He went to Mr Guan’s house on the morning of 28 December, but in the evening he was at (14)his sister’s wedding. The other suspect is (15)Fan Yiming. She has no (16)criminal record. She is a (17)family doctor and has known Guan Dawei for almost (18)two years. She (19)knows the boy who was kidnapped. She went to Mr Guan’s house on 28 December and left the house at about (20)7p.m.. Speak up: Kidnapping sometimes happens. How can we avoid it? How can we keep ourselves safe? Do you know some safety tips? 1. Mr Wu is asking the Class 1, Grade 9 students to think of some safety tips against crime. Listen to Part B and answer the questions. 1) What does Daniel think of safety tips to protect ourselves against crime? We should remember to lock the door when we leave home. 2) What about Millie? We’d better shut all the windows 3) What about Simon? We shouldn’t carry a lot of money with us. 4) What about Sandy? We’d better not go out alone at night. 5) What about Peter? We need to guard against any possible danger around us. 2. Get students to read the dialogue. 3. Group work: Can you think of any other safety tips to protect yourselves against crime? Work in groups of four. Write as many tips as possible. More tips: remember to call 110 when necessary refuse gifts from strangers let our parents know where we are and when we will return. not let strangers go into our homes.
