表示因果关系的连词有as a result结果,thus/therefore因此,so(such)...
表示转折关系的连接词有:However然而,nevertheless仍然,然而,不过,nonetheless尽管如此,依然,然而,still还;然而,though可是,不过,然而,yet然而,in spite of不顾,不管,at any rate无论如何,至少, in any case无论如何,不管怎样,whoever无论是谁,whatever无论什么,on the contrary正相反,in contrast与此相反,相比之下,by contrast相反,相比之下,in comparison比较起来,比较地,by
comparison相比之下,conversely相反(地),otherwise否则;除此以外, not----but不是----而是,as well也等。
表示列举关系的有:first首先,第一,second第二,third第三…firstly第一,首先,secondly第二(点);其次,thirdly第三…first第一,next其次,then那么,然后…in the first place第一,首先,in the second place第二,其次…for one thing首先,一则,for another thing其次…; to begin with首先,第一,to conclude首先,第一等

The art of Chinese knotting, or Zhongguo Jie, has a long history in China. It is a unique form of traditional Chinese handicraft (手工艺).
6 These knots were used to record events and information in ancient times. As time went by, Chinese knotting developed into a decorative art.
The materials for making Chinese knots are usually colorful silk threads. 7 They can be made into different shapes like butterflies, flowers, and lucky symbols. Each knot has its own special meaning. For example, a double-coin knot represents wealth.
8 First, the crafter chooses the right silk threads according to the design. Then, different knotting techniques are used to create the basic shapes. Finally, the crafter combines these shapes to form a complete Chinese knot.
In the past, Chinese knots were often given as gifts during festivals. 9 Today, they are not only popular in China but also loved by people around the world. They can be seen in many places, such as homes, shops, and art galleries.

Have you ever set a goal for yourself, like getting fit, making honor roll, or being picked for a team? Like lots of people, maybe you started out doing great, but then lost some of that drive and had trouble getting motivated again. 11 It all comes down to good planning, realistic expectations, and a stick-to-it attitude. Here’s what you need to do:
First, know your goal. Start by writing down your major goal. For example, “I want to make honor roll”, or “I want to get fit enough to make the cross-country team,” or even, “I want to play in the Olympics” are all major goals because they’re the final thing the goal setter wants to see happen. 12 That’s how people get things done. You just have to remember that the bigger the goal, the more work it takes to get there.
Make it specific. It’s easier to plan for and master a specific goal than an unclear one. 13 That’s pretty unclear. Make it specific by defining what you want to achieve, why you want to get fit, and by when. This helps you make a plan to reach your goal.
14 People often abandon their goals because their expectations are unreasonable. Part of staying motivated is being realistic about what you can achieve within the timeframe you’ve planned. Competing on the Olympic ski team is a workable goal if you are 15 and already a star skier. But if you’re 18 and only just taking your first lesson, time isn’t exactly on your side.
Break it down. Making any change takes self-discipline. You need to pay constant attention so you don’t get sidetracked. 15 For example, let’s say you want to run a marathon. If it’s February and the marathon is in August, that’s a realistic timeframe to prepare. Start by planning to run 2 miles and work up gradually to the distance you need.
A.Make it realistic.
B.It’s OK to dream big.
C.One way to make this easier is to break a big goal into small steps.
D.Let’s say your goal is to get fit.
E.So how do you stay motivated and on track with your goal?

The Programme for International Student Assessment. (PISA)is a worldwide study of 15-year-old school pupils’ scholastic performance in mathematics, science, and reading undertaken by the OECD.A closer look at the reading tests, shows the interesting fact that girls are outperforming boys in reading and that this is associated with girls’ greater enjoyment of reading.
One key area which has a major impact on reading performance, is reading for enjoyment rather than simply for study or school work purposes. Interestingly, the PISA study found that in all countries assessed (apart from South Korea), girls read for enjoyment more than boys. 16 In countries such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and the Netherlands, the difference between boys and girls was most significant, where they found a 30%gap or more between the genders. Additionally in places such as Austria and Liechtenstein, very low levels of boys expressed interest in reading(40% or less), which are worrying statistics.
17 In places like Japan, boys and girls read for enjoyment at an almost identical level, with 54% of boys and 58% of girls reporting that they enjoy reading. And there were a few countries and regions that scored very highly in boys reading enjoyment, for example in Albania, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Shanghai in China and Thailand where at least 80% of boys enjoy reading. 18
19 There were clear differences in the choices boys and girls make when deciding on what to read. Boys were found to enjoy reading magazines, newspapers and comic books more than girls. 20 Unlike reading enjoyment, this pattern was clearly repeated across all countries, especially in terms of boys reading of magazines and comic books.
A.However, not all countries had such an obvious trend.
B.Girls were found to be twice as likely to enjoy works of fiction than boys.
C.An interesting area which the PISA study looked at was the types of literature that both girls and boys enjoy.
D.The study found that in all the countries assessed, just over half of boys(52%), but almost three-quarters of girls(73%)said that they read for enjoyment which may come as a surprise to many.
E.Although these positive numbers are matched and passed by girls who reported an even higher level of reading enjoyment(90% or higher)

Most of the time, stress is a result of feeling overwhelmed. 27 For example, you could keep a daily organizer and plan your activities. Focus on things that are really important. Do not get caught up in minor issues that only create additional work for you. Break tasks down into manageable bits and tackle them one by one or step by step. Proper planning also helps you avoid the stress of doing things at the eleventh hour.
28 Doing things that you like such as listening to music, taking a walk, or reading a book can take your mind off things that bother you. Even doing nothing at all can be beneficial. After a short break, you will feel refreshed and more able to tackle a problem or a piece of work.

32 . The main job of such an alarm is to protect you while you’re asleep. You should have a smoke alarm outside each bedroom and on each floor of your home. You ought to have two plans for getting out of your house if there is a fire and practise these plans in the dark with your family.
A smoke alarm warns you of the danger. 33 .Take action immediately. When you come to a closed door, check it with the back of your hand. If it feels hot, there may be smoke or fire behind the door, so take care. Once you are out of your house, call the fire department from a neighbor’s house. If a family member or a pet is caught inside, you shouldn’t go back in. Firemen know how to perform rescues safely.
34 . Change the batteries at least once a year. You should use the test button each month to see if the alarm and batteries are still working. A smoke alarm lasts about ten years. You ought to change it even if it seems to be working.
About two out of three fire deaths happen in homes with no working smoke alarms. 35 .
A.Most of these deaths can be avoided

Graffiti is writings, drawings or marks made on walls in public places. In most cases, it is created with paint or spray paint. Sometimes it is just a person’s name or a rude word. Sometimes it is regarded as a public protest. Today, graffiti is often a mixture of writing and pictures, usually signed with a tag, which is a signature unique to an artist or group. Graffiti is now popular all over the world, and even art museums and galleries are collecting the works of street artists. However, there are many controversies over graffiti. 41 , while others see this as a rich form of non-traditional cultural expression.
It is believed that graffiti in its modern form first became popular in the United States in the 1960s. Young adults in cities like New York would use paint in special cans to spray their tag on walls around the city. 42 . Some graffiti murals and paintings were signs marking the territories of city gangs or illegal crime groups.
New Yorkers used to see the graffiti on the walls of poor neighbourhoods and subway trains as something threatening and as an example of urban decay. 43 , the work of vandals seeking to express themselves or even to make a political point. Up to the 1970s, most people hated graffiti, considering it disgusting. It was illegal and punishable by fines.
Later, the image of graffiti and graffiti artists changed a lot and graffiti was no longer only found in the subways and the poor areas of cities. 44 . The popularity of hip-hop music in the late 1980s helped further spread the culture of graffiti, first in the United States and then internationally.
Nowadays, graffiti has the status of “street art” and has become a separate movement expressing the street culture of young people living in big cities. 45 —in advertisements, on clothes, on toys, and even in newspapers and other media. Large international companies now realise the appeal of graffiti in advertising.

Reading Enlightens Teens
46 First, they want to entertain readers. They would like to think that their stories will attract their young readers. Second, they also know that they have a moral responsibility to young people, as they recognize that their young readers are in one of the most important stages of life: the change from childhood to adulthood. 47
Of course, not all books for the young are of a high quality. 48 The writers aim to copy the success of another book, which makes their stories less interesting instead. Sometimes writers are out of touch they actually know less about the world than their readers do. In a world that changes so quickly, keeping up with the times can be really difficult.
The other is with the writers’ “responsibility”. A story that enlightens the reader is welcome, but no one wants to read a book written by someone who thinks that they know better, just because they are an adult and a writer.
One advantage that writers of teens books have is that they have been there themselves: they know what it is like to feel bored with the challenges of schoolwork, or to find it hard to get along with their parents. They use this to their advantage when it comes to making them understand the young. 49
When choosing books to read, we should wisely pick books from a range of different cultures and times. Some books are funny, while some are serious, or even tragic. This classification exists in all of world literature. 50 The subject matter of these books is the lives of the young, particularly while they struggle to come of age, showing that they deal with problems relating to parents and friends, and the growing awareness of the responsibilities of adult life.
You can get your hands on these books at a good bookshop nearby, or at your school library. Reading is said to be the key on the path to enlightenment.
A.Their work must reflect this great change.
B.Some books for the young are not entertaining.
C.It’s no surprise that it is also present in fiction for the young.
D.Good writers try to imagine themselves in the shoes of their readers.
E.Writers of books for teens and young adults have two aims for their work

14.后文“People often abandon their goals because their expectations are unreasonable. Part of staying motivated is being realistic about what you can achieve within the timeframe you’ve planned. Competing on the Olympic ski team is a workable goal if you are 15 and already a star skier. But if you’re 18 and only just taking your first lesson, time isn’t exactly on your side. 故选A。
15.本段主题句“Break it down. (把它分解。)”强调“分解目标”,后文“For example, let’s say you want to run a marathon. If it’s February and the marathon is in August, that’s a realistic timeframe to prepare. Start by planning to run 2 miles and work up gradually to the distance you need. (例如,假设你想跑马拉松。如果是在2月,而马拉松在8月,这是一个现实的准备时间框架。从计划跑2英里开始,逐渐增加到你需要的距离。)”以“马拉松训练”为例说明分阶段准备。选项C“有一种方法可以让这个目标更容易实现,那就是把一个大目标分解成一个个小步骤。”与本段主题一致,且后文“从2英里逐渐增加”直接例证该观点。故选C。
