I’m Inés Azofeifa Rojas, a primate (灵长类动物) researcher with Salve Monos, a nonprofit wildlife organization based in Tamarindo, Costa Rica.
When I was a girl living on the southern Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, my parents would take me to see golden howler monkeys (猴) in the forest most weekends. Howler monkeys are like big, hairy gardeners, spreading seeds from many trees. I understood at an early age that we should preserve the species. Therefore, I wanted to do something to protect both the howler monkeys and their habitat.
For the past decade, I’ve studied the behavior of howler monkey groups in Guanacaste, a region in northern Costa Rica where tourism is growing rapidly and hundreds of monkeys die from electrocution (触电) each year. For my master’s degree at the University of Costa Rica, I evaluated how monkeys use modern facilities such as power lines to navigate through an urban area. I ended up taking a lot of electrocuted monkeys to rescue centers. We are documenting how this species’ behavior is changing in real time.
Although we don’t know whether the overall number of monkeys is declining, we do know that the groups located in the forest have roughly 25-45 individuals, compared with an average of only 7 in the urban groups.
I’m teaching my colleague how best to set a camera trap to monitor howler monkeys. We can then determine where to add a tree bridge, a structure to help monkeys living on the tree to complete their routes for food and engage in social behaviors safely. We also use the cameras to monitor the condition and effectiveness of the bridges and evaluate their outcome. Over the past three years, our measurements have shown that monkey electrocution has decreased by 30% after our efforts to maintain connectivity between tree routes.
4. Why did the author choose to study howler monkeys?
A. She was advised by her parents. B. She aimed to protect them when young.
C. She was fascinated by their appearance. D. She majored in primate research in college.
5. What did the author do to get her master’ degree?
A. She observed how monkeys move in the city.
B. She evaluated the growing tourism in Costa Rica.
C. She researched in Guanacaste for ten years.
D. She rescued a large number of injured monkeys.
6. What can be inferred about the monkeys from the author’s study?
A. Monkeys’ survival is greatly affected by city facilities.
B. The overall number of the monkeys is declining.
C. Electrocution is the biggest threat to the monkeys.
D. Monkey groups in cities have more members than forest ones.
7. Where might the text be taken from?
A. A Scientific research paper. B. A regional development news.
C. A wildlife conservation magazine. D. A science fiction.
【答案】4. B 5. A 6. A 7. C

Urban mobility is at a crossroads. For decades cities have been designed to cater to cars, with countless roads, plenty of parking, and laws that separate residential areas from commercial and industrial zones. This has made cities less livable, increasingly polluted, and contributed to social inequality. But now, a new vision for urban mobility is emerging, one that prioritizes people over vehicles, reduces carbon emissions, and enhances the quality of urban life.
At the heart of this transformation are technological innovations that are reshaping how people move within cities. Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more affordable and accessible. Autonomous vehicles, though still in their early stage, hold the promise of reducing traffic accidents and jams by enabling more efficient use of road space. And shared mobility services, such as bike-and car-sharing, are making it easier for people to get around without owning a personal vehicle.
The shift towards more sustainable urban mobility is also being driven by a change in consumer preferences. Younger generations, in particular, are less attached to the idea of car ownership and more open to alternative modes of transportation. It is being fueled by concerns about climate change and air pollution, as well as the increasing cost of owning and maintaining a car in urban areas. As a result, cities are seeing a growing demand for green transportation options.
However, the transition to a more sustainable and intelligent urban mobility system is arduous. One major challenge is the need for significant investment in new infrastructure (基础设施), such as charging stations. Additionally, ensuring the fair distribution of these benefits across different economic groups is crucial, which helps to prevent widening social gaps. What’s more, the success of urban mobility innovations depends on public acceptance and trust. Overcoming these challenges will require joint efforts from governments, private sectors, and communities.
In conclusion, the future of urban mobility is set to experience significant transformations. As cities continue to grow and evolve, embracing these changes will be crucial in shaping the urban landscape of tomorrow.
8. What issue does the author mainly discuss in paragraph 1?
A. Urban roads cause a mess.
B. City designs center on cars.
C. Diverse areas get separated in the city.
D. Vehicles on roads cause traffic accidents.
9. Why do younger generations favour sustainable transport?
A. They fail to make a handsome income.
B. They regard car ownership as outdated.
C. They worry about pollution and high car costs.
D. They long to be healthy through active transport.
10. What does the underlined word “arduous” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Tough. B. Sensible. C. Available. D. Rewarding.
11. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Time to Improve Urban Transport
B. Strategies for Sustainable Transport
C. The Future of Urban Mobility
D. The Upcoming Shared City Mobility
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. A 11. C

Orienting yourself in the darkness of a cave seems like a difficult task. But some bats seem to have a clever solution. Greater mouse-tailed bats live in groups inside small caves where flying is challenging, so they hang from the cave’s walls and move deeper into it by crawling backwards. They move this way in many situations, such as in response to the appearance of a natural enemy, or when they want to find a better position in the cave.
Biologists have long wondered what role these bats’ unusually long tails play as they crawl inside the caves, so Yossi Yovel at Tel Aviv University and his colleagues designed an experiment to put the bats’ tails to the test.
In the experiment, the researchers recreated a set-up according to the inside of a cave, creating a maze (迷宫) with obstacles similar to the uneven, rocky landform the bats would encounter naturally. The team measured how long it took for the bats to climb the wall while crawling backwards, and how smoothly they were able to do so, first naturally and then with their tails anaesthetised (麻醉).
The bats used their tails like a blind walking cane, swinging them from side to side to detect obstacles and climb more safely and efficiently. In contrast, when the researchers anaesthetised the bats’ tails, their climbing time increased by an average of 10%, and the bats made more side movements instead of moving upward, apparently trying to find their way. “When you walk backwards, you can still feel with your body and with your legs,” says Yovel. “It’s clear that they can do it. But there was a significant reduction in efficiency.”
While other bat species have long tails, the researchers say this is so far the only one recognized to find its way in the darkness using this distinctive strategy. “I don’t think this is general for bats with long tails,” says Yovel, “until further research is done, we don’t really know.”
12. Why do greater mouse-tailed bats crawl backwards in caves?
A. To scare potential enemies away.
B. To conserve energy while moving.
C. To make a quick escape from inside.
D. To adapt to the narrow environment.
13. What was the impact of tail anesthesia on bats?
A. The maze became invisible to bats.
B. Bats’ performance declined in speed.
C. Bats began flying forward instead of crawling.
D. The other body parts functioned more efficiently.
14. What did the experiment reveal about bats’ tails?
A. They help bats to communicate with each other.
B. They act as a sensor to help bats navigate in the dark.
C. They offer bats forces for gripping cave walls while moving.
D. They are primarily used for balance during backward crawling.
15. What is the most likely following step for Yovel’s research team?
A. Train bats to crawl forward efficiently.
B. Focus on how bats use tails while flying.
C. Examine tail navigation in other bat species.
D. Study how tail lengths influence bats’ speed.
【答案】12. D 13. B 14. B 15. C

细节理解题。根据第四段“In contrast, when the researchers anaesthetised the bats’ tails, their climbing time increased by an average of 10%,(相比之下,当研究人员对这些蝙蝠的尾巴进行麻醉处理时,它们的攀爬时间平均延长了 10%)”可知,尾部麻醉让大鼠尾蝠的攀爬时间增加了10%,说明其攀爬速度有所下降。故选B。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“The bats used their tails like a blind walking cane, swinging them from side to side to detect obstacles and climb more safely and efficiently. In contrast, when the researchers anaesthetised the bats’ tails, their climbing time increased by an average of 10%, and the bats made more side movements instead of moving upward, apparently trying to find their way. (这些蝙蝠利用尾巴充当盲杖,左右摆动以探测障碍物,从而更安全高效地攀爬。相比之下,当研究人员麻醉蝙蝠的尾部时,它们的攀爬时间平均增加了10%,并且蝙蝠会做出更多横向移动而非向上爬行,显然是在试图寻找方向)”可知,实验表明,这些蝙蝠的尾巴像感应器一样帮助蝙蝠在黑暗中导航。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段““I don’t think this is general for bats with long tails,” says Yovel, “until further research is done, we don’t really know.”(“我认为这并非所有长尾巴的蝙蝠都会有的现象,”Yovel说,“在进一步研究完成之前,我们无法真正确定。”)”可推知,Yovel的团队下一步可能会研究其他蝙蝠物种的尾巴的导航能力。故选C。

The first motion pictures came into life in Thomas Alva Edison’s New Jersey laboratory in the early 1890s. Within two decades, movie theaters had spread across North America and Europe. ____16____ Their seats packed daily with audiences consuming melodramas, comedies, newsreels, and animation
Then, in 1927, sound came to the big screen. For the first time, audiences heard actors’ voices and were excited about the new change this brought to the experience: From the beginning, sound technology — along with camera, film, and projection technology — steadily improved and films became increasingly complicated. ____17____
But what is film? Theories about this medium varied. Some say it is a collaborative (合作的) art and mass entertainment. Some think of it as a form of language and communication. ____18____ Others think it is a cultural document that reflects society.
____19____ It is shown in rapid speeds to create the illusion (错觉) of seamless motion. Anyone who has gone to the movies, however, knows that a great film can transport us well beyond the science that makes it possible. Unless the filmmaker effectively breaks film’s illusion (and varied attempts have been made to do just that), the wholeness of the world that a filmmaker can create is deeply affecting.
Iris Barry, who laid the foundations for MoMA’s Department of Film and film studies, was a tireless champion of the cinema, which she saw as humanizing: “____20____ And I cannot help thinking that knowing is the same thing as sympathizing.”
A. And it can be both constructive and destructive,
B. And much of the rest of the world soon followed.
C. Our brain regards them as being in continuous motion.
D. On a technical level, a film is a series of still photographic images.
E. The cinema helps us to live complete lives, in imagination if not in fact.
F. It is now hard to imagine a time when films were not central to popular culture.
G. History can help people develop sympathy and understand the world more completely.

Dear editor,
I’m Li Hua, a Grade 10 student. Recently, our school has adjusted the curriculum, which has given us more free time to arrange independently. Now, after finishing daily homework, we can dive into hobbies like reading literary works, practicing sports, or participating in club activities with classmates. Some even use this time to review weak subjects or learn new skills online.
From my perspective, this adjustment is quite beneficial. It eases our academic pressure and allows us to develop interests beyond textbooks. Moreover, it helps us cultivate time-management skills, a vital ability for future life. This change makes our school life more colorful and meaningful, and I fully support it.

第二节(满分25分)

I have loved street dance since my childhood and in high school, I took classes that focused on street dance. And this year was going to be the best street dance class yet.
As I was walking excitedly over to the first day of street dance class, I passed one of my fellow dancers from the previous year.
“We have a new dance teacher. Her name is Ms. Barton, and she is strictly ballet.”
Ballet? Well, this ought to be interesting.
I had never taken ballet in my life. I admitted I was a bit nervous, but also up for the challenge. I mean, how hard could it be, right?
As I entered the classroom, all the girls were in their black leotards(紧身连衣裤) and ballet slippers. I must have missed the notice of the dress requirement. I changed into the clothing that I prepared for street dance. It would have to do for now.
We all stood as Ms. Barton ran us through basic ballet steps. She was just how I had imagined a ballet teacher would be: excellent posture with a strict attitude.
Along with my classmates, I began my grand plie (全蹲), with one hand on the barre (扶手杠) and the other motioning out to the side, slowly bending down with my knees. But Ms Barton gave me a stare.
“What is your name?” she asked.
“Sarah” I responded with a smile.
“Class, I would like everyone to watch Sarah do a grand plie.” She motioned for me to continue.
“Wow, she must think I’m great to ask me to demonstrate in front of the class,” I thought, hiding my excitement. I slowly got into position and then performed a grand plie.
Complete silence. “Now, class, this is a prime example of what not to do. After class, I will help her perform the grand plie...”Ms. Barton said.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
A wave of pure embarrassment came over me.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After class, Ms. Barton asked me to stay.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
A wave of pure embarrassment came over me. My face burned as all eyes turned to me, and I wanted to sink into the floor. I clutched the barre tightly, my fingers white with tension, and stared at my sneakers—so different from the neat ballet slippers around me. I’d thought I was doing fine, but Ms. Barton’s words felt like a cold shower. My classmates’ whispers were faint but sharp, and I fought back the urge to run out. I forced myself to stand straight, though my knees felt weak, and nodded at Ms. Barton, determined not to let this ruin my love for dance.
After class, Ms. Barton asked me to stay. I hung my head, bracing for more criticism, but her tone softened. “Sarah, I didn’t mean to embarrass you,” she said, stepping closer. She pointed to my knees: “Your legs weren’t turned out, and you bent too quickly—ballet needs control.” She demonstrated the grand plie slowly, her movements graceful and precise. I followed her guidance, feeling the difference as my muscles adjusted. “Street dance is about energy, but ballet builds the foundation,” she smiled. “Wear proper attire next time, and keep practicing—you have potential.” I left the classroom with a new resolve, excited to blend my passion with this new skill.

7 Where might the text be taken from?
A. A Scientific research paper. B. A regional development news.
C. A wildlife conservation magazine. D. A science fiction.

I have loved street dance since my childhood, and in high school, I took classes that focused on street dance.
“Sarah,” I responded with a smile.
