Exercise makes your body strong, and helps you to keep the right body weight. Sports scientist Dr. Helen Lopez offers the following advice to teenagers: “Firstly, you need to find out your present level of fitness. Then you can design a programme that will help you become healthier.” Dr. Lopez suggests that there are three levels of fitness that need a change of lifestyle. “Overweight” means that the person gets very little exercise and often has a serious weight problem. “Inactive” means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight. “Active” refers to people who take part in sports and other physical activities, but do not have a high fitness level. According to Dr. Lopez, overweight teenagers should keep active to keep healthy. Ride a bike, play volleyball or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help to burn up calories. Inactive teenagers should do similar activities, but add some bending and stretching exercises, such as push-ups (俯卧撑) and sit-ups (仰卧起坐), starting with twenty of each a day. “Inactive people can take a little more exercise than overweight people because their bodies are stronger,” said Dr. Lopez. The same principle applies to active teenagers. Dr. Lopez suggests one hour a week or more on running and other forms of intensive exercise, together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending activities. “These are really important in order to prevent injuries,” Dr. Lopez said. Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises could also be planned in the programme in order to increase the person’s strength. 4. What can we learn from the passage? A. Active people always have a high fitness level. B. Overweight people always take more exercise. C. Inactive teenagers are not seriously overweight. D. Keeping fit means changing teenagers’ lifestyle. 5. Which of the following statements is NOT mentioned in the text? A. Physical exercise can make the teenagers grow taller. B. Physical exercise can help teenagers become healthier. C. Physical exercise can help to burn up calories. D. Physical exercise can increase teenagers’ strength. 6. In order to prevent injuries, you should do some ________ exercises. A. walking B. stretching and bending C. riding D. weight-training 7. What is the best title for the passage? A. Doing exercises B. Teenagers’ fitness C. Different lifestyles D. Overweight teenagers 【答案】4. C 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段中的““Inactive” means that the person does not join in many physical activities, but is not seriously overweight.(“不活跃”是指这个人不参加很多体育活动,但没有严重超重)”可知,不活跃指的是不经常参加体育锻炼,但不是过度肥胖。 根据第一段中的“It reduces stress and improves fitness. Exercise makes your body strong, and helps you to keep the right body weight.(它可以减轻压力,提高身体素质。运动使你的身体强壮,并帮助你保持适当的体重)”可知,锻炼能让青少年更健康,B选项正确;根据第三段中的“Ride a bike, play volleyball or basketball for a while, and go for a twenty-minute walk each day. All these will help to burn up calories.(骑自行车,打一会儿排球或篮球,每天散步20分钟。所有这些都有助于燃烧卡路里)”可知,锻炼能够燃烧热量,故C项正确;根据最后一段中的“Some weight-training and other body-strengthening exercises could also be planned in the programme in order to increase the person’s strength.(一些重量训练和其他加强身体的运动也可以计划在计划中,以增加人的力量)”可知,锻炼能增加人的力量,D项正确;A选项在文中未提到。故选A。 根据最后一段的“Dr Lopez suggests one hour a week or more on running and other forms of intensive exercise, together with fifteen minutes a day spent on stretching and bending activities. “These are really important in order to prevent injuries,” Dr Lopez said.(Dr Lopez建议每周至少花一个小时进行跑步和其他形式的高强度运动,同时每天花15分钟进行伸展和弯曲运动。Dr Lopez说:“这些对防止受伤非常重要。”)”可知,为了防止受伤,你应该做一些伸展和弯曲运动。故选B。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据首段中的“Teenagers’ fitness is now a major concern, to which physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness.(青少年的健康现在是一个大问题,体育锻炼是非常重要的。它可以减轻压力,提高身体素质)”以及全文内容可知,本文首段首先提出话题,接下来分析了青少年常见的健康问题,并给出具体的运动方案,可以判断,本文的主题为青少年的健康。因此推断B项“Teenagers’ fitness(青少年的健康)”为最佳标题。故选B。 C Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life. Friendship usually develops during childhood. New friends are made when you are at school. Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long. Friends influence your development, maturity(成熟) and sense of responsibility(责任). A familiar opinion is “You can tell a lot about a person by knowing who his friends are.” Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same. Some people call you their friends for the wrong reasons. These people are not really friends. They are superficial(表面的)only “friends” on the outside, not the inside where it counts. Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage. True friends are there whether you are rich or poor. It is easy to have many so-called “friends” if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the “phoney”. True friends are most special. Sometimes they might not easy to find, so you can consider yourself very lucky if you have one true friend. This friend is eager to help you whenever necessary. He or she knows you would do the same for them. A true friend is someone you can talk to about any subject or problem. You and your true friend have good understanding of each other. True friends support you, take your side, and build up your confidence. 8. What’s the main idea of the first paragraph? A. How to make true friends. B. What is friendship based on. C. We should make friends in our childhood. D. Friends play a very important role in our life. 9. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage? A. It is easy to have many true friends if you are rich. B. If you have no music in you, one of your friends will be a music lover. C The friendship developing during your school days will be with you for a long time. D. What you value above anything is the friendship developing during childhood. 10. What does the underlined phrase “so-called ‘friends’” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Friends in need. B. Fair-weather friends. C. Those who can help you. D. Those who often gives you money. 11. What’s the author’s attitude towards “true friends” according to paragraph 3? A. True friends are too difficult to find. B. You can only share sadness with a true friend. C. You can simply share happiness with a true friend. D. True friends will stand by you whatever happens. D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据文章第一段“Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life.(朋友在每个人的生活中扮演着非常重要的角色。)”以及“Friends influence your development, maturity(成熟) and sense of responsibility(责任).(朋友影响你的发展、成熟和责任感。)” 根据文章第一段“Those friends that you make as a student can usually last long.(那些你在学生时代交的朋友通常可以持续很长时间。)”以及“Friendship is based on common interests. If you like sports, most of your friends are likely to be active. If you enjoy reading and shopping, most of your friends do the same.(友谊是以共同的兴趣为基础的。 根据文章第二段划线词之前“Superficial friends only want to be your friends if it is to their advantage.(肤浅的朋友只有在对他们有利的情况下才愿意和你做朋友。)”以及划线词之后“if you are rich. By this time you should be able to recognize your friends as the real or the “phoney”.(如果你很富有,到这个时候,你应该能够认出你的朋友是真的还是“假的”。)” 根据文章第三段“True friends are most special. D High school can be challenging for everyone. You are going through an awkward time and you may either fit in right away or feel like a complete outcast. But no matter how well you may fit in (or not), joining a club will be good for you in the short term and long term. Joining a club is a great way to meet new people, especially if you are new to the school. Joining a club forces you to communicate with people who have similar interests as you. Even if you are the shyest and quietest person, you are sure to develop a relationship with at least one person in the club that you decide to join. Another really nice thing about joining a club is that doing activities looks good on college applications(申请).Being known as outgoing is a highly important quality; it shows that you are determined and willing to try new things. Another nice thing is that it could help you develop skills that you could use during a college interview. Many students struggle with productivity. Most teens go to school and then come home and spend the rest of the day in front of the television or phone, but activities can prevent this. Teens are easily influenced and if they end up with the wrong group of people, they may face bad results such as problems with the law. Clubs provide a safe place to spend time with friends. Maybe the most important reason why you should join a club is the long-term benefit(益处)it brings. The classroom isn’t the only learning environment in a school. Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, keeping an eye on the time, and being organized are things you will use every single day of your life. 12. What might the underlined word “outcast” in paragraph 1 mean? A. A person who is popular. B. A person who is not smart. C. A person who is not accepted. D. A person who is confident. 13. What do colleges think highly of according to the text? A. The number of clubs you have joined. B. The good personality you have developed. C. The strong relationships you have built. D. The skills you have learned while forming a club. 14. What’s the advantage of joining a club talked about in paragraph 4? A. Increasing knowledge. B. Learning teamwork skills. C. Making good use of your time. D. Improving your fitness level. 15. What is the best title for the text? A. What Club Should You Join? B. How to Join a Club You Like? C. Should You Join a Second Club? D. Why Should You Join a Club? C 13. B 14. C 15. 根据划线处前“You are going through an awkward time (你正在经历一段尴尬的时期)”以及“you may either fit in right away(你可能马上融入)”可知,尴尬时期是:可能马上融入也可能被成为一个不被接受的人。 根据文章第三段“Another really nice thing about joining a club is that doing activities looks good on college applications(申请). Being known as outgoing is a highly important quality; it shows that you are determined and willing to try new things. (参加社团的另一个好处是参加活动对大学申请很有帮助。外向是一种非常重要的品质;这表明你有决心,愿意尝试新事物。)”可知,养成的良好个性是大学所看重的。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“Many students struggle with productivity. Most teens go to school and then come home and spend the rest of the day in front of the television or phone, but activities can prevent this. (许多学生都在努力提高效率。大多数青少年去学校,然后回家,在电视或电话前度过剩下的一天,但是俱乐部的活动可以防止这一点。)”可知,参加一个俱乐部可以帮助你充分利用你的时间。故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。根据文章第一段“But no matter how well you may fit in (or not), joining a club will be good for you in the short term and long term.(但是不管你适应得多好(或不适应),加入一个俱乐部对你的短期和长期都有好处。)”以及最后一段“Maybe the most important reason why you should join a club is the long-term benefit(益处)it brings. The classroom isn’t the only learning environment in a school. Things such as meeting and speaking to new people, keeping an eye on the time, and being organized are things you will use every single day of your life.(也许你应该加入一个俱乐部的最重要的原因是它带来的长期利益。教室并不是学校里唯一的学习环境。和新认识的人见面、交谈、注意时间、做事有条理,这些都是你生活中每一天都会用到的东西。)”可知,文章主要讲述的是加入俱乐部的好处,D项:Why Should You Join a Club?(你为什么要加入一个俱乐部?) In the ocean of online information, staying safe can be quite challenging. B Teenagers’ fitness is now a major concern, to which physical exercise is very important. It reduces stress and improves fitness. Overweight teenagers C Friends play a very important part in everyone’s life. C. The friendship developing during your school days will be with you for a long time.
