Just as she graduated from college, a financial crisis swept the country, making it hard to get a job in journalism. Despite her growing worries, she didn’t give up on her dream; instead, she tried a global volunteer program for her self-growth. A year later, Green began taking random writing jobs to make ends meet, while dreaming of a day when she could write freely and be paid for it. Afterwards, she applied for the fully funded Master of Fine Arts program, and was accepted to study fiction writing at the University of Michigan. Though the program didn’t end up opening many doors for her, she was paid to write and take classes. Green has never avoided challenging topics. Marriage, healthcare, employment and more have featured noticeably in her writing, and she is especially impressive when it comes to music criticism. “I’ve intentionally tried to keep my path very wide,” she said. “It was what I had to do in the beginning. I wanted to become a well-rounded writer.” She penned articles for a variety of websites. Slowly, she began to build a reputation for fearlessness. “I’ve been writing since I was 22. This craft requires that you have a tough skin,” said Green, when asked about her writing journey. “As a writer, you are not well served by caring what other people think about you. You have to be emotionally prepared to face rejection.” In the past decade, Green, lacking many examples to model after, has achieved remarkable success through great effort. She landed regular writing positions, had worked in respected journals, made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and wrote a world-class bestseller. By any young journalist’s definition, Green had arrived. 24. What troubled Green upon her graduation? A. Poor academic performance. B. A tough job-hunting situation. C. Lack of writing opportunities. D. Failure in a volunteer program. 25. Why did Green take random writing jobs? A. To realize her dream soon. B. To gain wide recognition. C. To earn a living temporarily. D. To learn different writing styles. 26. What matters most to her career according to Green? A. Handling refusal bravely. B. Maintaining youthful skin. C. Gaining public recognition. D. Writing about her journey. 27. What may be the author’s attitude towards Green? A. Admiring. B. Critical. C. Dismissive. D. Objective. C None of us like to think we’d walk on by when someone needed our help. But sometimes we behave in ways we wouldn’t expect when encountering a situation we are unsure about. Research from the British Heart Foundation has suggested that a third of people would not perform first aid if they saw someone collapse on the street, with some even admitting they wouldn’t call an ambulance. This can sometimes mean that no one helps when someone desperately needs it. However, a lot of tragic events urge us to take immediate action. One of the most famous examples of this is the tragic case of Kitty Genovese who was fatally stabbed (刺、捅) in Kew Gardens, New York, in 1964. Follow-up investigations concluded that several people saw or heard what was happening, but did nothing to intervene. This has been termed the “bystander effect”—a well-known psychological phenomenon that individuals are less likely to offer help to someone when other people are present. The more people there are, the less likely they are to help. There are various factors contributing to this effect — people think that others will get involved or intervene. Afterwards people often say they did not feel qualified or senior or important enough to be the one to intervene. It is also partly down to “pluralistic ignorance” — since everyone is not reacting to the emergency, they don’t need to either; it’s not serious because no one else is doing anything. Self-awareness is the best antidote to it. When encountering an emergency, think to yourself how you would behave if you were on your own. Ignore everyone else and how they are behaving and go with your instinct (直觉) —if you’d call an ambulance, do it. If you’d run for help, do it. If that’s how you would have behaved when you were on your own then that’s probably the right course of action. 28. According to the first paragraph, what would some people do when someone needs help? A. To behave in proper ways. B. To rush to give a hand. C. To give immediate first aid. D. To hesitate to intervene. 29. Which of the following statements about “bystander effect” is correct? A. It is a rare psychological phenomenon. B. People are unwilling to help for lack of qualification. C. Someone will step in when more people are gathering. D. It results from “pluralistic ignorance” to some degree. 30. What does the underlined word “antidote” in the last paragraph mean? A. Devotion. B. Introduction. C. Solution. D. Resistance. 31. What is the best title for the text? A. Don’t Be a Bystander B. Stay away from Emergencies C. Raise Awareness of First Aid D. Don’t Intervene in “Bystander Effect” D A moment occurs in the exchange between professor and student when each of us adopts a look. My look says, “What, you don’t understand?” Theirs says, “We don’t. And we think you’re making it up.” We are having a problem. Basically, we’ve all read the same story, but we haven’t used the same analytical approaches. It may seem at times as if the professor is inventing interpretations out of thin air. Actually the truth is that as the slightly more experienced reader, the professor has acquired over the years the use of a certain “language reading”. Besides, he has grasped three professional tools-memory, symbol and pattern. These items separate the professional readers from the ordinary ones. English professors are cursed with memory. When reading a new book, I constantly seek out connections and inferences, recalling faces and themes from past readings. I can’t not do it, although there are plenty of times when that ability is not something I want to exercise. This does not necessarily improve the experience of popular entertainment. Professors also read and think symbolically. Everything is a symbol of something, it seems, until proven otherwise. We ask: What does the thing over there represent? The kind of mind that works its way through undergraduate and then graduate classes in literature and criticism tends to see things as existing in themselves while also representing something else. This tendency to understand the world in symbolic terms is enhanced by years of training and rewards the symbolic imagination. A related phenomenon in professorial reading is pattern recognition. Most professional students of literature learn to take in the specific detail while seeing the patterns that the detail reveals. Experience has proved to them that life and books fall into similar patterns. Literature is full of patterns, and your reading experience will be much more rewarding when you can step back from the work, even while you are reading it, and look for those patterns. 32. How does the author introduce the topic? A. By describing a real-life scene. B. By using popular quotes. C. By presenting conflicting ideas. D. By raising an interesting question. 33. Why do the students think the professor is making up interpretations? A. They have limited life experience. B. They lack chances for sufficient reading. C. They are unable to analyze the text thoroughly. D. They do not trust the professor’s teaching abilities. 34. What does paragraph 3 say about English professors? A. They have a strong desire to not have their good memory. B Their reading habit doesn’t always guarantee desirable effects. C. Their memory adds to their reading pleasure of popular works. D. They keep making connections with their own life while reading. 35. Which is the author’s suggestion on reading literature? A. Identify the hidden text modes. B. Perceive many things at the same time. C. Look for details and language patterns. D. Memorize patterns of symbolic meanings. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) The Importance of Being Independent The ability to be independent is something not everyone possesses. ___36___ And learning to support yourself is fundamental for any success you ever hope to achieve. At the end of the day, you only have yourself to fall back on, so it’s very important to be able to handle things on your own. People rely on others far more than it is necessary. People put their happiness in the hands of a significant person, thinking this will bring them satisfaction.___37___ Should you always be dependent on someone else? Of course not. ___38___ Therefore, you need to learn how to make decisions on your own. People are unable to be independent for a variety of reasons, with fear being the biggest: the fear of being alone, the fear of rejection and the fear of the future. However, there is no reason to base your life decisions on relationships with people. All relationships end at some point or another. ___39___ The only thing you can do is alter your understanding of relationships. Instead of expecting them to make you happy by being in your life and providing enjoyment, appreciate the time spent and enjoyment since you know it will be gone. ___40___ Don’ t ask for advice , do what you want and learn from your own mistakes. Many people are afraid to think for themselves because that involves taking responsibility for their own lives. This is just one way people become dependent. We are born alone and we die alone, so we each have to take responsibility for our lives at every step along the way. A. There is nothing you can do to change or affect that. B. This is a serious error too many people make these days. C. Make decisions by and for yourself, whatever they may be. D. You can control your own life by making your own choices. E. However, you need to be independent in order to survive in the world. F. In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is wait for the right time. G. Rain started to pour. "Even more beautiful in the rain," her mother said. " What do you think, Kathy?" Kathy glared at her mom. "Beautiful, "she muttered. That night after dinner, Kathy wandered into the kitchen, where her father was washing dishes. She gave her father a loving look and said in her sweetest voice, "Couldn’t I have my phone back, just for one second? Just so I can tell everyone what an amazing time I'm having?” “Can't, "he said. "It's not here. Remember?" Kathy was very annoyed. Having nothing better to do, she examined the dusty bookcase in the living room. The books looked as dull as the weather. On the top shelf, however, she spotted a puzzle. She took it, emptied the pieces on the table, and began to sort them. After what seemed like a few minutes, she looked up. It was past ten o'clock. She had been working for almost two hours! She yawned. The puzzle was less than half done, but she was exhausted. So, she went to bed. When Kathy awoke the next morning, she jumped out of bed and threw open the curtains. A blazing sun was rising over the blue ocean. The sky was cloudless. The scene reminded Kathy of a photo that her friend betty had recently sent her. This view was even better. It would leave everyone speechless. Kathy dashed to her bedside table and reached for her phone. But there was nothing there. She sighed. Still, she wandered in front of the window, admiring the sunrise. After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn't thought of her cellphone for hours. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 晋江市侨声中学南安市侨光中学 2025秋高二年质量监测联考一 英语试卷 (考试时间:120分钟 满分150分) 命题者:洪华新 陈艺辉 审核者:洪春恋 注意事项: 1. What’s the man’s hobby? 26 What matters most to her career according to Green? A. Handling refusal bravely. B. Maintaining youthful skin. C. Gaining public recognition. D. Writing about her journey. 27. What may be the author’s attitude towards Green? A. Admiring. B. Critical. C. Dismissive. D. Objective. B 25. C 26. A 27. 根据第一段中“Just as she graduated from college, a financial crisis swept the country, making it hard to get a job in journalism. (就在她大学毕业时,一场金融危机席卷全国,使得在新闻业找到工作变得困难)”可知,Green毕业时面临艰难的求职环境。故选B。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“A year later, Green began taking random writing jobs to make ends meet, while dreaming of a day when she could write freely and be paid for it. (一年后,Green开始接受一些随机的写作工作来维持生计,同时梦想着有一天她能自由写作并得到报酬)”可知,Green接受随机的写作工作是为了暂时谋生。故选C。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“As a writer, you are not well served by caring what other people think about you. You have to be emotionally prepared to face rejection. (作为一名作家,你在乎别人对你的看法是没有好处的。你必须在情感上做好面对拒绝的准备)”可知,Green认为对她的职业生涯最重要的是勇敢地面对拒绝。故选A。 根据最后一段“In the past decade, Green, lacking many examples to model after, has achieved remarkable success through great effort. She landed regular writing positions, had worked in respected journals, made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and wrote a world-class bestseller. By any young journalist’s definition, Green had arrived. (在过去的十年里,Green在没有很多榜样可以效仿的情况下,通过巨大的努力取得了显著的成功。她获得了固定的写作职位,曾在受人尊敬的期刊工作过,登上了福布斯30岁以下30人榜单,并写了一本世界级的畅销书。按照任何年轻记者的定义,Green已经成功了)”可知,作者对Green的态度是钦佩的。故选A。 C None of us like to think we’d walk on by when someone needed our help. B People are unwilling to help for lack of qualification. Don’t Intervene in “Bystander Effect” 【答案】28. D 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第一段中“But sometimes we behave in ways we wouldn’t expect when encountering a situation we are unsure about. Research from the British Heart Foundation has suggested that a third of people would not perform first aid if they saw someone collapse on the street, with some even admitting they wouldn’t call an ambulance. (但有时,当我们遇到不确定的情况时,我们的行为方式会出乎我们的意料。英国心脏基金会的研究表明,如果看到有人在街上晕倒,三分之一的人不会进行急救,有些人甚至承认他们不会叫救护车。)”可知,有些人在他人需要帮助时会表现出犹豫,不确定是否要采取帮助行动,比如进行急救或叫救护车等,即,有些人会犹豫是否干预。故选D项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“There are various factors contributing to this effect — people think that others will get involved or intervene. Afterwards people often say they did not feel qualified or senior or important enough to be the one to intervene. It is also partly down to “pluralistic ignorance” — since everyone is not reacting to the emergency, they don’t need to either; it’s not serious because no one else is doing anything. 根据最后一段“Self-awareness is the best antidote to it. 根据第二段中“This has been termed the “bystander effect”—a well-known psychological phenomenon that individuals are less likely to offer help to someone when other people are present. The more people there are, the less likely they are to help. (这被称为“旁观者效应”——一种众所周知的心理现象,当其他人在场时,个人不太可能向某人提供帮助。人越多,他们提供帮助的可能性就越小。)”及最后一段中“If you’d run for help, do it. If that’s how you would have behaved when you were on your own then that’s probably the right course of action. D A moment occurs in the exchange between professor and student when each of us adopts a look. Actually, the truth is that as the slightly more experienced reader, the professor has acquired over the years the use of a certain “language reading”. B. Their reading habit doesn’t always guarantee desirable effects. A 33. C 34. B 35. 根据文章第一段“A moment occurs in the exchange between professor and student when each of us adopts a look. My look says, “What, you don’t understand?” Theirs says, “We don’t. And we think you’re making it up.” ( 在教授和学生的交流中,我们每个人都有一个眼神。我的表情在说:“什么,你不明白吗?”他们的回答是:“我们没有。我们认为这是你瞎编的”)”并结合下文指出是分析方法的不同导致交流和理解上的挑战推知,作者通过描述教授和学生之间交流的实际场景引入了话题,故选A。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Actually, the truth is that as the slightly more experienced reader, the professor has acquired over the years the use of a certain “language reading”. Besides, he has grasped three professional tools-memory, symbol and pattern. These items separate the professional readers from the ordinary ones. (事实上,事实是,作为稍微有经验的读者,教授多年来已经学会了使用某种“语言阅读”。此外,他还掌握了三种专业工具——记忆、符号和图案。这些项目将专业读者与普通读者区分开来)”推知,学生们可能认为教授在编造解释,是因为相较于教授他们是普通的读者,没有掌握一些阅读技巧,导致无法完全理解文章内容。故选C。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“English professors are cursed with memory. When reading a new book, I constantly seek out connections and inferences, recalling faces and themes from past readings. I can’t not do it, although there are plenty of times when that ability is not something I want to exercise. This does not necessarily improve the experience of popular entertainment(英语教授的记忆力很差。在阅读一本新书时,我不断地寻找联系和推理,从过去的阅读中回忆面孔和主题。我不能不做,尽管很多时候我不想锻炼这种能力。这并不一定会改善大众娱乐的体验)”可知,英语教授的阅读习惯并不一定能保证理想的效果。故选B。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Literature is full of patterns, and your reading experience will be much more rewarding when you can step back from the work, even while you are reading it, and look for those patterns.(文学作品充满了模式,如果你能从作品中退一步,甚至在阅读的过程中寻找这些模式,你的阅读体验将会更有意义。)” 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) The Importance of Being Independent The ability to be independent is something not everyone possesses. G. Not only are you limiting yourself, you are also likely to become a burden to this person. E 37. B 38. G 39. A 40. 【36题详解】 根据空前“The ability to be independent is something not everyone possesses.(独立的能力不是每个人都具备的。)” 而空后“And learning to support yourself is fundamental for any success you ever hope to achieve.(学习支持自己是你想要获得成功的基础。)” E“However, you need to be independent in order to survive in the world.(然而,为了在这个世界上生存,你需要独立。)” 【37题详解】 根据空前“People rely on others far more than it is necessary. People put their happiness in the hands of a significant person, thinking this will bring them satisfaction.(人们对别人的依赖远远超过了必要的程度。人们把自己的幸福交到重要的人手里,以为这会给他们带来满足。)”可知,人们总是过度依赖别人。而根据下文“Should you always be dependent on someone else? Of course not.(你应该一直依赖别人吗?当然不是。)”可判断,总是依赖他人是不对的。选项B“This is a serious error too many people make these days.(这是现在很多人犯的严重错误。)” 【38题详解】 根据空前内容“Should you always be dependent on someone else? Of course not.(你应该一直依赖别人吗?当然不是。)”可知,我们不应该总是依赖别人。选项G“Not only are you limiting yourself, you are also likely to become a burden to this person.(你不仅限制了自己,还可能成为对方的负担。)” 【39题详解】 根据空前内容“However, there is no reason to base your life decisions on relationships with people. All relationships end at some point or another.(然而,没有理由把你的人生决定建立在与人的关系上。所有的关系都有结束的时候。)”可知,所有的关系都有结束的时候;而根据下文“The only thing you can do is alter your understanding of relationships.(你唯一能做的就是改变你对人际关系的理解。)” A“There is nothing you can do to change or affect that.(你无法改变或影响这一点。)” 故选A。 根据下文内容“Don’ t ask for advice , do what you want and learn from your own mistakes. Many people are afraid to think for themselves because that involves taking responsibility for their own lives. This is just one way people become dependent. We are born alone and we die alone, so we each have to take responsibility for our lives at every step along the way.(不要寻求建议,做你想做的,从自己的错误中吸取教训。许多人害怕独立思考,因为这涉及到为自己的生活负责。这只是人们变得依赖的一种方式。我们孤独地出生,孤独地死去,所以我们每个人都必须为自己生命中的每一步负责。)”可知,在本段中,作者建议我们做自己想做的,为自己的每一步负责。选项C“Make decisions by and for yourself, whatever they may be.(自己做决定,不管决定是什么。)” I was an eighth-grader without ever really learning how to read. This year however, her parents announced a new rule: no phones for the entire week. “But my friends will be expecting updates about the trip, "Kathy complained. Kathy's mom gave her a serious look. Unwillingly, Kathy handed her phone over and her mom locked it away. The drive to the beach house took most of the day. As they turned off the highway onto country back roads, the clouds darkened. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn't thought of her cellphone for hours. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. Under no circumstances had Kathy expected the scenery to be so spectacular! With the sea wind blowing against her face, Kathy totally lost herself in the stunning views. After half an hour's leisure walk along the beach, Kathy returned to the house. “How do I spend the rest of the day?” Kathy murmured to herself. Suddenly, the unfinished puzzle caught her attention. She felt a little excited and buried herself in it once again. Every time the shapes met, Kathy was overwhelmed with happiness. Soon, all that were left were a few gaps. She quickly put the remaining pieces into place. The puzzle was completed! Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn’t thought of her cellphone for hours. Trying to preserve the image in her mind, she quietly started taking it apart rather than taking pictures to update about the trip. That, she thought, was just for me. Without the distractions from her cellphone, she found herself engaged in story sharing session with mom and daddy willingly. They spent a high-quality family time together. On arriving home, mom gave her cellphone back. This time, however, she had no intention to share but to keep all the great memories in her mind. 3.词汇激活: 行为类: 前往:head to/race for/rush to/dash to 嘟哝着:murmured/muttered/grumbled 吸引注意力:caught her attention/catch her eye/draw her attention 情绪类: 十分高兴:was overwhelmed with happiness/was immersed in happiness/be bathed in happiness 激动的:excited/trilled/ fevered/stirred 【点睛】【高分句型1】Appreciating the finished puzzle, she realized she hadn’t thought of her cellphone for hours.(这句话用了现在分词appreciating做状语。) 【高分句型2】With the sea wind blowing against her face, Kathy totally lost herself in the stunning views.(这句话用了with的复合结构。) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
