Our education trains us to follow the rules and deliver the expected answers. When we do, awards and congratulations follow. Yet when we grow up, it gets a little harder. Life and careers don’t have tests with an A if we get the “right” answer. I recently had coffee with a college student who will graduate. She is struggling with what she wants for her career. She wants her parents to be proud of her and to continue the success she has had in school. She also talked about other students in her graduating class who are set to do "some big things," like working for impressive companies. Yet she wasn't sure of the right answer for using her degree. She said that deep down she was hoping that someone might give her the answer. We both agreed that it comes down to not looking for the right answer, but her answer. The grown-up definition of the “right answer" is different than that in school. What would you do if you weren't afraid? It takes time to know these answers. And they can change over time and at any point in your career. My encouragement is to get valued advice and input, of course, but finally to look within yourself for the answers. It helps to come back to: What do I want to be known for? What is my definition of success? What am I best at? If I had no fears, what would I do? What is one step I can take today to move me toward my goal (even if it's not perfectly clear)? I find these types of questions are more helpful at getting to our unique answer rather than “right answer” questions, such as: What will my parents want? What degree or job will mark me as accomplished to the world? What is my best option based on where I work today? 4. What does the author mean to say in the first paragraph? A. Life is harder for adults than children. B. Academic excellence is not necessary. C. It is not helpful to follow the rules in school. D. Rules in life are different from those in school. 5. What is wrong with the college student? A. She does badly in her studies. B. Her parents are not proud of her. C. She feels puzzled about her life career. D. She is not sure whether to do" some big things". 6. When looking for the answer in life, you need to . A. trust your parents B. listen to your heart C. follow valued advice D. learn from your classmates 7. Which of the following questions might not help you to seek your answer? A. What do I love to do? B. What matters most to me in life? C. What will make me look successful? D. What will I regret not doing when I'm 80? 【答案】4. D 5. C 6. B 7. C 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇夹叙夹议文。作者通过大学生对职业选择迷茫这个事情,告诉我们做选择时要倾听自己内心真实的声音。 【4题详解】 推理判断题。由第一段尤其是“Yet when we grow up, it gets a little harder. She said that deep down she was hoping that someone might give her the answer.”可知,这个大学生对于她的职业选择很是迷茫。故C选项正确。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。由第三段“My encouragement is to get valued advice and input, of course, but finally to look within yourself for the answers.”可知,当你在生活中寻找答案时,你需要倾听你的心声。故B选项正确。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。由第三段“What do I want to be known for? What is my definition of success? What am I best at?If I had no fears, what would I do?What is one step I can take today to move me toward my goal (even if it's not perfectly clear)?”可知,A,B,D选项都是发自内心的问题。故C选项正确。 【点睛】把握关键词是解决推理判断题的重要方法之一。分析第二段“She is struggling with what she wants for her career. Yet she wasn't sure of the right answer for using her degree. She said that deep down she was hoping that someone might give her the answer.”中的“ struggling, wasn't sure , might”可知,作者大学生对于他的职业选择很是迷茫的。故C选项为第2小题的正确选项。 C French fries are served hot, either soft or crispy, and are generally eaten as part of lunch or dinner or by themselves as a snack. They commonly appear on the menus of diners, fast food restaurants, pubs, and bars. They are usually salted and may be served with ketchup (番茄酱), vinegar, or other local specialties, depending on the country. French fries are a very common fast food dish in Europe. But this year, a poor potato harvest in Europe this summer could mean French fries are up to three centimetres shorter than usual. The poor harvest is because of the very hot summer Europe had. There were record hot temperatures in many countries. The heatwave caused a lack of rain, which meant farmers produced a lot fewer potatoes than they normally do. Pierre Lebrun, a spokesman from a potato growers’ association in Belgium, said farmers grew 25 percent fewer potatoes than normal. The effect of this is that potato prices are up and the average size of potatoes is smaller. Belgium is one country where the French fries are very popular. There are over 5,000 eateries which serve and specialise in fries in Belgium. Belgians go there and enjoy themselves at mealtime. They love fries so much that there is a campaign to rename them “Belgian fries” instead of “French fries” because Belgians say the fry was invented in their country. Belgium is one of the largest exporters of frozen fries in the world. It exports around 2.3 million tons of them every year. Mr Lebrun explained why fries would be shorter. He said, “Generally, to have long fries, we work with potatoes with a diameter of more than 50mm. Then you get fries of 8 to 9 cm. This time, as the potatoes are smaller, the fries will be shorter.” 8. From the first paragraph we can learn French fries _______. A. can be served in different ways B. can be served only at dinner C. can’t be ordered in a popular bar D. can’t be served as snacks in Europe 9. Why are the French fries shorter than usual? A. The businessmen want to make more money. B. The cold weather reduced the production of the potatoes. C. People don’t like French fries any more for healthier life. D. The high temperatures in this summer made the potatoes smaller. 10. What does the underlined word in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. Parks. B. Restaurants. C. Supermarkets. D. Shopping malls. 11. According to the passage, the argument between Belgians and Frenchmen is _______. A. which country is the largest exporter of French fries in the world B. how they can grow bigger potatoes C. who invented the fry D. why they love French fries 【答案】8. A 9. D 10. B 11. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道,讲述了薯条在欧洲的受欢迎程度、今年欧洲土豆歉收对薯条长度的影响,以及比利时与薯条的特殊关系。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段“French fries are served hot, either soft or crispy, and are generally eaten as part of lunch or dinner or by themselves as a snack. They commonly appear on the menus of diners, fast food restaurants, pubs, and bars. They are usually salted and may be served with ketchup (番茄酱), vinegar, or other local specialties, depending on the country.(炸薯条通常趁热供应,口感或软或脆,一般作为午餐或晚餐的一部分,也可单独作为零食享用。它们常见于小餐馆、快餐店、酒馆和酒吧的菜单上。炸薯条通常会撒盐调味,根据不同国家的饮食习惯,还可能搭配番茄酱、醋或其他当地特色调料一同食用。)”可知,薯条有不同的供应方式。故选A。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。由第二段中的“But this year, a poor potato harvest in Europe this summer could mean French fries are up to three centimetres shorter than usual. The poor harvest is because of the very hot summer Europe had.(但今年,欧洲夏季土豆歉收,这可能意味着炸薯条会比平常短上三厘米。歉收的原因是欧洲今年夏季遭遇了极端高温天气。)”可知,薯条比平时短是因为极端高温天气,故选D。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。由画线词后的定语从句“which serve and specialise in fries in Belgium(在比利时,那些专门供应并主打薯条的……)”可知,它是提供和专门经营薯条的场所。由此推断下划线一词指的是restaurants(餐馆),故选B。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Belgium is one country where the French fries are very popular. There are over 5,000 eateries which serve and specialise in fries in Belgium. Belgians go there and enjoy themselves at mealtime. They love fries so much that there is a campaign to rename them “Belgian fries” instead of “French fries” because Belgians say the fry was invented in their country.(比利时是一个薯条非常受欢迎的国家。在比利时,有超过5000家餐馆专门供应并以薯条为特色菜品。比利时人会在用餐时段前往这些地方,尽情享受美食。他们非常喜爱薯条,甚至发起了一场运动,主张将薯条更名为“比利时薯条”,而非“法国薯条”,因为比利时人声称薯条是在他们的国家发明的。)”可知,比利时人和法国人之间的争论是谁发明了薯条。故选C。 D Your house may have an effect on your figure. Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan. Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less selfconscious (难为情) when they’re in poorly lit places—and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn’t have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness. Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites. In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us feel less hungry. So when it’s time to repaint, go blue. Don’t forget the clock—or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories (卡路里) per meal than those who rush through their meals. Begin keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turn on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal. Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12inch plate instead of a 10inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake (摄入) jumps by 14 percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass. 12. The text is especially helpful for those who care about ____________. A. their home comforts B. their body shape C. house buying D. healthy diets 13. A home environment in blue can help people ______________. A. digest food better B. reduce food intake C. burn more calories D. regain their appetites 14. What are people advised to do at mealtimes? A. Eat quickly. B. Play fast music. C. Use smaller spoons. D. Turn down the lights. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Is Your House Making You Fat? B. Ways of Serving Dinner C. Effects of SelfConsciousness D. Is Your Home Environment Relaxing? 【答案】12. B 13. B 14. C 15. A 【解析】 【分析】试题分析:想要减肥,除了少吃外,还和房间有关系。建议有4条:1.房间要明亮;2.用冷色系会减少食欲;3.放一些舒缓的音乐就餐;4. 用小的碗碟。 【12题详解】 B 推理判断题。根据全文第一段Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.可知,本文就房间的布置给那些想减肥的人士提了一些建议。所以选A可以更好地概括全文。 考点:科普类短文阅读 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to End a Video Game Addiction Playing video games casually can be a great way to relax and have fun. One of his friends had stopped to make a bicycle repair, but they had encouraged Mac to carry on, and they would catch up with him soon. As Mac pedaled(骑行) along alone, he thought fondly of his wife and two young daughters at home. He hoped to show them this beautiful place someday. Then Mac heard quick and loud breathing behind him. ”Man, that’s a big dog!" he thought. But when he looked to the side, he saw instantly that it wasn’t a dog at all, but a wolf, quickly catching up with him. Mac’s heart jumped. He found out his can of bear spray. With one hand on the bars, he fired the spray at the wolf. A bright red cloud enveloped the animal, and to Mac’s relief, it fell back, shaking its head. But a minute later, it was by his side again. Then it attacked the back of Mac’s bike, tearing open his tent bag. He fired at the wolf a second time, and again, it fell back only to quickly restart the chase(追赶). Mac was pedaling hard now. He waved and yelled at passing cars but was careful not to slow down. He saw a steep uphill climb before him. He knew that once he hit the hill, he’d be easily caught up and the wolf’s teeth would be tearing into his flesh. At this moment, Paul and Becky were driving their car on their way to Alaska. They didn’t think much of it when they saw two cyclists repairing their bike on the side of the road. A bit later, they spotted what they, too, assumed was a dog running alongside a man on a bike. As they got closer, they realized that the dog was a wolf. Mac heard a large vehicle behind him. He pulled in front of it as the wolf was catching up fast, just a dozen yards away now. The car abruptly stopped in front of him. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few minutes later, the other two cyclists arrived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1: The car abruptly stopped in front of him. Mac jumped off his bicycle and rushed to the door of the car. But before Mac could open the door, the wolf had caught up and jumped to attack. Luckily, the magic spray saved Mac a third time. Seeing the wolf back off, Paul quickly unlocked the door, and the frightened man climbed into the car in no time, shutting the door behind him heavily. Becky looked out of the back window and saw the wolf standing over Mac’s bicycle as if it were a kill. Soon after, the animal ran off. Paragraph 2: A few minutes later the other two cyclists arrived. Mac got out of the car and hugged his friends. “It was really a nightmare and I thought I was going to die,” said Mac in a shaky voice, tears gathering in his eyes. For him, life could never be more beautiful. After saying goodbye to Paul and Becky with gratitude, the three men continued their trip, agreeing never to separate again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①看见:see/notice/observe ②拥抱:hug/embrace/hold in arms ③继续:continue/go on/keep on 情绪类 ①感谢:appreciation/gratitude ②害怕的:frightened/horrified 【点睛】[高分句型1] Becky looked out of the back window and saw the wolf standing over Mac’s bicycle as if it were a kill.(由连接词as if引导的状语从句) [高分句型2]“It was really a nightmare and I thought I was going to die,” said Mac in a shaky voice, tears gathering in his eyes.(运用了that引导的宾语从句且省略了that以及非谓语中的独立主格结构) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 砚山一中2025年秋季学期高二年级10月月考 英语试卷听力 注意事项: 1. 1. Having free coffee from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. B As children we are well-trained to find the right answer. We are rewarded for A's, the honor roll and acing the test. She also talked about other students in her graduating class who are set to do "some big things" like working for impressive companies. A. trust your parents B. listen to your heart C follow valued advice D. learn from your classmates 7. Which of the following questions might not help you to seek your answer? A. What do I love to do? B. What matters most to me in life? C. What will make me look successful? D. What will I regret not doing when I'm 80? C French fries are served hot, either soft or crispy, and are generally eaten as part of lunch or dinner or by themselves as a snack. A. which country is the largest exporter of French fries in the world B. how they can grow bigger potatoes C. who invented the fry D. why they love French fries D Your house may have an effect on your figure. 12. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
