A
Last week United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres created an attractive new term. The era of global warming has ended, he declared dramatically, and the era of “global boiling” has arrived.
You can see why he said it. July was the hottest month on record globally. High temperatures and intense wildfires have raged across the Northern Hemisphere. Marine heatwaves are damaging the world’s third-largest coral reef, off Florida. And as greenhouse emissions keep rising, it means many even hotter summers await us.
But critics have made negative comments on the phrase. Obviously, “global boiling” is clearly an exaggeration (夸张), but “global warming” is now far too weak. Many climate scientists have pushed for the term “global heating” to be used in preference. Similarly, phrases such as “climate crisis” haven’t gained enough attention. That’s because many of us still feel we haven’t seen this crisis with our own eyes.
But that is changing. In the past few years, extreme weather and related events have struck many countries. Australia’s Black Summer brought bushfires that burned an area the size of the United Kingdom. Germany suffered serious flooding in 2021. The 2022 flood in Pakistan flooded large parts of the country. China has seen both drought and floods. Savage multi-year droughts have hit the Horn of Africa. India has banned rice exports due to damage from heavy rain.
Opponents of climate action often complain about what they see as the overuse of “crisis talk”. If everything is a crisis, nothing is a crisis.
When Guterres uses highly charged phrases he’s not inviting us to imagine a Hollywood-style disaster. What he’s hoping is to make people listen — and act — now we can see what climate change looks like.
Are there better phrases to capture this? Possibly. Take the challenge yourself: Can you think up a brief, accurate phrase to cover intensifying local and regional-scale droughts, fires, typhoons and floods? You can see how hard it is.
21. What made António Guterres use the phrase “global boiling”?
A. The new scientific finding. B. The comments from critics.
C. The present serious situation. D. The future trend in climate change.
22. Why do the phrases like “climate crisis” fail to attract our attention?
A. These phrases don’t reflect the truth. B. Many disasters haven’t been reported.
C. Fewer crises have happened these years. D. Climate disasters haven’t happened to us.
23. What does the author try to convey by saying “But that is changing.” in Paragraph 4?
A. But the situation is improving. B. But people have realized the danger.
C. But more climate crises have happened. D. But people have taken effective measures.
24. What does the author think of António Guterres’s saying “global boiling”?
A. It’s beyond the truth. B. It’s acceptable indeed.
C. He tries to frighten people. D. He aims to please the public.

“I can’t live without my mobile phone!” is what I often hear people say as they talk about how mobiles have become an essential part of their lives.
The very common sight of heads bent, eyes staring at mobile screens and fingers busy tapping away repeats itself around the world. Whenever there is a moment to spare, people busy themselves with their mobile phones.
Some people believe our unhealthy obsession with mobile phones is destroying how we appreciate the little things in life or miss the moments that matter. The truth is that technology overall should be seen as a tool to improve our lives.
Mobile phones have certainly had a great influence on our lives, but I truly believe it’s for the better.
It’s changed the way we communicate, whether for work or play. We are now less limited by time and geographical location. With my mobile phone, I can dial into conference calls while stuck in a traffic jam, or reply to urgent emails while on the go. I can send a text message or share photos and videos with friends who aren’t living in the same country.
The mobile revolution isn’t just changing the lives of urbanite (城市居民) like myself. I know of a young woman named Shompa Akhter who is crazy about fashion and design. She dreamt about starting her own business and she did just that, opening a shop in Kushtia featuring her own creations. Dealing with suppliers in different towns was a problem for Shompa — purchase orders had to either be hand-delivered or mailed out to suppliers. Shompa also found it tough to publicise (宣传) her business to potential customers outside her town. But once she learnt to operate the mobile phone, she was addicted. The 25-year-old businesswoman now stays in touch easily with her suppliers. Mobile email is a blessing (幸运) in her life. Who would have thought that mobility could bring about such enormous change? It shouldn’t really be a surprise though.
25. What do the first two paragraphs mainly show?
A. Mobile phones make people’s lives more enjoyable.
B People’s health is greatly affected by mobile phones.
C. People become addicted to mobile phones in daily life.
D. The public is concerned about mobile phone overuse.
26. What’s the author’s attitude towards mobile phones?
A. Indifferent. B. Negative.
C. Doubtful. D. Supportive.
27. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. The solution to geographical limitations.
B. The advantages of mobile phones.
C. The new functions of mobile phones.
D. The methods to save time.
28. What do we know about Shompa from the text?
A. She is addicted to Internet surfing.
B. Mobile email is still unavailable to her.
C. She found suppliers through social media.
D. Her mobile phone helped her business a lot.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly common for medical exams. The next time you get a body scan, there’s a good chance that AI might be analyzing the images.
A few years ago, four clinics in Poland tried out an AI system to discover polyps (息肉) and other conditions during colonoscopies (结肠镜检查). The AI works in real time, analyzing video from a camera inside the colon. If it spots something, it will highlight the area for the doctor to see. “In this particular one there’s a green box, showing where the polyp might be,” said Marcin Romanczyk, a gastroenterologist (胃肠病学家) at H-T Medical Center in Tychy, Poland, who led the study.
The clinics were collecting data on whether the AI system worked. It turns out it did, but when Romanczyk and his colleagues reanalyzed the data, they found something else: After they’d grown used to using an AI-assisted system, doctors became significantly worse at discovering possible polyps when the AI was switched off, discovery rates of possible polyps falling from 28.4% to 22.4%.
Romanczyk says he’s not quite sure why it’s happening, but he has some theories. “We are subconsciously (潜意识地) waiting for the green box to come out to show us where the polyp is and we’re not paying so much attention,” he says. In other words, the doctors seemed to become quickly dependent on AI systems catching the polyps. The doctors appeared to behave worse at spotting polyps and other conditions during colonoscopies on their own.
As for doctors’ losing critical skills because of AI, Johan Hulleman, a researcher who studies human reliance on AI, argued, “I think three months seems like a very short period to lose a skill that you took 26 years to build up.” He believes statistical variations (统计变异) due to a number of factors such as age of the patients might be behind the drop.
29. What did the AI system do during a colonoscopy?
A. It analyzed video and marked potential polyps. B. It performed the total procedure automatically.
C. It collected data on patients’ age and conditions. D. It helped train gastroenterologists’ critical skills.
30. What happened when the AI system was turned off?
A. It continued to analyze the video. B. The patients ’conditions worsened.
C. The doctors did worse in spotting polyps. D. The doctors were more focused on exams.
31. What does Romanczyk’s theory mean?
A. The AI system often missed polyps. B. The green box always made mistakes.
C. Doctors ignored the AI’s recommendations. D. Doctors might become dependent on the AI.
32. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Unmatched Skills of Gastroenterologists B. A Warning to AI’s Two-sided Effects in Clinic
C. The Technical Process of the Colonoscopy D. AI Becoming Dependent on Doctors As Well

Four Best Astronomy and Stargazing Apps for Smartphones
A good smartphone app can help you locate and photograph objects in the night sky. Here are some of the best, tried and tested.
Sky Guide
Pros: Astronomy news updates
Cons: Most useful features require a paid subscription
As well as a simple design, complete with a cosmic calendar and a weather forecast, theSky Guide app’s featured section contains a mix of excellent news and features by science communicator Dr Jenifer Millard. Along with its calendar and news, it provides plenty of stars, objects and satellites for casual stargazers.
Celestron SkyPortal
Pros: Audio (音频) tours in earphones
Cons: Large app at 296MB
After an easy pairing process the app allows your phone to act as a wireless hand controller; tapping an object on the phone screen for your scope to centre in the eyepiece.
At its core is a great planetarium app, with four hours of audio commentary — and it’s available to download for free.
Universe2go
Pros: Free app; excellent audio narration; accurate enhanced reality overlays (叠加)

Of the many stargazing apps, there are few audio guides or enhanced reality offerings that overlay information directly onto the night sky. This one is both.
Cosmic Watch
Pros: Creative design; encourages a new perspective on stargazing
Cons: Large app at 178MB
Time is not a number, it’s a precise position in space, as you’ll quickly learn from this stunning 3D app that’s both a standard world clock and an astronomical timepiece. By observing the changing positions of the Moon, the Sun, and the planets, you can gain a deeper understanding of celestial (天体的) motions, making the app both detailed and informative.

Ella was known as the best artist in the fifth grade. Her sketches were so lifelike that her teacher, Mrs. Davis, often pinned them on the classroom wall. One Monday, Mrs. Davis made an exciting announcement. “Class, our school will hold an art show next month! This year’s theme is ‘Friendship’. You can enter individually or with a partner. The winning piece will be framed and displayed in the school library.”
A wave of excitement spread through the classroom. Ella and Liam were partners for class projects, but this time Ella was growing frustrated. While she cared about perfect lines and realistic shades, Liam was full of wild, messy ideas. He wanted to paint singing elephants or trees with rainbow leaves, which Ella thought ruined the seriousness of art. She decided this was her chance to shine alone.
“Liam, for the art show, I’m going to work by myself,” Ella told him. “Your ideas are just too distracting (令人分心的).” Liam’s smile disappeared, but he nodded. “Okay. Maybe I’ll join Sarah and Tom’s group then.”
Ella spent weeks creating a large, detailed pencil portrait of two children reading under a tree. It was technically perfect. Meanwhile, she saw Liam working excitedly with Sarah and Tom. Their project was a chaotic-looking 3D collage (拼贴画) with bright colors and odd shapes. Ella thought it was a mess and felt sure her masterpiece would win.
On the day of the art show, Ella’s portrait was praised for its skill. But when the judges saw the project of Liam’s group, they gathered around it with interest. Their collage, titled “The Friendship Galaxy (银河)”, showed friends as planets orbiting together, each planet covered in handprints and shared memories. It was creative, joyful, and perfectly captured the theme.
When the results were announced, Liam’s group won first prize. The judge said, “This work stood out for its incredible creativity and powerful expression of friendship.” Sarah and Tom hugged Liam, cheering, “We couldn’t have done it without your amazing idea!”
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
As they cheered, Ella quietly packed her painting, fighting back tears.

Liam broke away from the celebrations and walked over to Ella.

Therefore, all harvard university students are automatically registered in the harvard university health plan unless they can show that they have similar health insurance coverage on their own. International scholars are not required to purchase the harvard health insurance plan.

Don’t prevent kids and teenagers from using the Internet. It’s important for their education and can help them make friends too. Now let me tell you a bit about some sites we found. Of course, there are a limited number of sites for the very young. But we would suggest one called Playtime Online. It’s designed for children from four to six years old. It’s really colorful and helps children learn skills for games. Children love it, and it helps them when they begin school. Then from five until about ten years of age, there’s a really useful web site called Moving Up. This takes playtime on a step further and increases the math and language skills of the child. Teachers speak highly of this site for child development. When children get into their teens, the Internet can be a more dangerous place. Net Aware for the twelve to sixteen age group makes young people more aware of online dangers. It’s a good site for children to look at before they start using the Internet on their own. The last site is invaluable for teens studying for exams. Sixteen to eighteen year olds love Test Doctors, which is a site designed to help students study for their exams and is full of handy tips for improving study skills. The site is run by subject specialists, so it’s packed full of information.

A
Last week, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres created an attractive new term.
When Guterres uses highly charged phrases, he’s not inviting us to imagine a Hollywood-style disaster.
24 What does the author think of António Guterres’s saying “global boiling”?
A. It’s beyond the truth. B. It’s acceptable indeed.
C. He tries to frighten people. D. He aims to please the public.
C 22. D 23. C 24. B
根据第二段“You can see why he said it. July was the hottest month on record globally. High temperatures and intense wildfires have raged across the Northern Hemisphere. Marine heatwaves are damaging the world’s third-largest coral reef, off Florida. And as greenhouse emissions keep rising, it means many even hotter summers await us. (你能明白他为什么这么说。7月是全球有记录以来最热的一个月。高温和剧烈的野火在北半球肆虐。海洋热浪正在破坏佛罗里达州附近的世界第三大珊瑚礁。而且,随着温室气体排放量持续上升,这意味着我们还将迎来许多更热的夏天。)”可知,古特雷斯使用“全球沸腾”这一说法是因为当前全球气候变暖的形势非常严峻。故选C项。
【22题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Similarly, phrases such as “climate crisis” haven’t gained enough attention. That’s because many of us still feel we haven’t seen this crisis with our own eyes. (同样,“气候危机”这样的短语也没有引起足够的关注。那是因为我们中的许多人仍然觉得我们没有亲眼看到这场危机。)”可知,“气候危机”这样的短语没有引起足够的关注是因为许多人仍然觉得没有亲眼看到气候危机,即气候灾难还没有发生在自己身上。故选D项。
【23题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“But that is changing. In the past few years, extreme weather and related events have struck many countries. (但这种情况正在改变。在过去几年里,极端天气和相关事件袭击了许多国家。)”可知,作者说“但这种情况正在改变”是为了说明现在更多的气候危机已经发生。故选C项。
【24题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“When Guterres uses highly charged phrases, he’s not inviting us to imagine a Hollywood-style disaster. What he’s hoping is to make people listen — and act — now we can see what climate change looks like. (当古特雷斯使用情绪强烈的的措辞时,他并不是邀请我们想象好莱坞式的灾难。他所希望的是让人们倾听并采取行动——现在我们可以看到气候变化是什么样子的。)”可知,作者认为古特雷斯使用“全球沸腾”这一说法是为了让人们倾听并采取行动,这一说法是可以接受的。故选B项。

B. People’s health is greatly affected by mobile phones.
C 26. D 27. B 28. D
根据第一段中“‘I can’t live without my mobile phone!’ is what I often hear people say as they talk about how mobiles have become an essential part of their lives.(“没有手机我活不下去!”这是人们在谈论手机已成为他们生活中不可或缺的一部分时,我常听到他们说的话。)”以及第二段中“The very common sight of heads bent, eyes staring at mobile screens and fingers busy tapping away repeats itself around the world.( 这种常见的场景——人们低着头,眼睛盯着手机屏幕,手指不停地敲击着——在全球各地不断重复出现。)”
根据第四段中“Mobile phones have certainly had a great influence on our lives, but I truly believe it’s for the better.(手机无疑对我们的生活产生了重大影响,但我坚信这种影响是积极的。)” 选项D“Supportive(支持的)”符合题意。
根据第五段中“It’s changed the way we communicate, whether for work or play. We are now less limited by time and geographical location. With my mobile phone, I can dial into conference calls while stuck in a traffic jam, or reply to urgent emails while on the go. I can send a text message or share photos and videos with friends who aren’t living in the same country.( 它改变了我们的交流方式,无论是工作交流还是娱乐交流。现在我们不再受时间与地理位置的限制。有了手机,我在遭遇交通堵塞时可以拨打会议电话,或者在外出时回复紧急邮件。我还能给不在同一国家的朋友们发送短信、分享照片和视频。)”可知,本段主要描述了手机如何改变了人们的沟通方式,使得人们不再受时间和地理位置的限制。作者通过自己的经历举例说明了手机在工作和娱乐中的便利性。因此,该段的主要内容是介绍手机的优点,选项B“The advantages of mobile phones(手机的优点。)”
根据文章最后一段中“ Shompa also found it tough to publicise (宣传) her business to potential customers outside her town. But once she learnt to operate the mobile phone, she was addicted. The 25-year-old businesswoman now stays in touch easily with her suppliers. Mobile email is a blessing (幸运) in her life. (Shompa还发现,要在她所在城镇之外向潜在客户宣传自己的业务相当困难。但当她学会使用手机后,就完全沉迷其中了。)”可知,Shompa Akhter学会了使用手机后,能够轻松地与供应商保持联系,并且手机邮件对她的生活来说是一种幸运。这说明手机对她的商业活动产生了很大的帮助。因此,选项D“Her mobile phone helped her business a lot(她的手机对她的业务帮助很大。)”
C
AI Becoming Dependent on Doctors As Well
A 30. C 31. D 32. B
根据第二段“The AI works in real time, analyzing video from a camera inside the colon. If it spots something, it will highlight the area for the doctor to see.(该人工智能系统能够实时运行,它会分析来自结肠内部摄像头拍摄的视频。一旦发现异常,它会将相关区域突出显示出来,以便医生查看)”可知,AI系统会对视频进行了分析,并标记出了潜在的息肉。故选A。
根据第三段“After they’d grown used to using an AI-assisted system, doctors became significantly worse at discovering possible polyps when the AI was switched off, discovery rates of possible polyps falling from 28.4% to 22.4%.(在他们习惯了使用人工智能辅助系统之后,当该系统关闭时,医生们在发现可能存在的息肉方面的能力明显下降,息肉的发现率从28.4%降至22.4%)”可知,当AI被关闭后,医生发现息肉的能力显著下降。
根据第四段“In other words, the doctors seemed to become quickly dependent on AI systems catching the polyps.(换句话说,医生们似乎很快就对人工智能系统检测息肉的功能产生了依赖)”可知,罗曼齐克的理论意味着医生可能会依赖人工智能。
根据第一段“Artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming increasingly common for medical exams. The next time you get a body scan, there’s a good chance that AI might be analyzing the images.(人工智能(AI)在医疗检查中的应用正日益普及。

be blessed with是固定短语,意为“享有……的福气,拥有……”。故填with。
故填a。
故填what。
根据years ago可知,句子需用一般过去时,主语The incredible landscapes与动词create之间是被动关系,所以空处需用一般过去时的被动语态:was/were done,主语是复数landscapes,所以be动词需用were。故填were created。
故填various/varied。

2. 分析该现象的原因;
注意:词数80左右;
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As is shown in the survey, the use of snap-for-answers applications varies among students of different grades. About 40% of Senior 1 students use such apps, while the percentage rises to 60% for Senior 2 students and reaches nearly 80% for Senior 3 students.
There are several reasons for this phenomenon. Firstly, as students move to higher grades, academic pressure increases, and they face more difficult assignments. These apps provide a quick way to get answers, which saves time. Secondly, the convenience of taking a photo to get solutions makes them appealing.
In my opinion, while these apps can be helpful tools for learning, we should use them wisely. They should serve as a supplement to our study, not a replacement for independent thinking. We need to make sure we understand the concepts behind the answers rather than just copying them. Only in this way can we truly improve our academic performance.

注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
As they cheered, Ella quietly packed her painting, fighting back tears.

Liam broke away from the celebrations and walked over to Ella.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As they cheered, Ella quietly packed her painting, fighting back tears. The applause for Liam’s group felt like a personal rejection of everything she believed art should be. Her perfect lines and realistic shades suddenly seemed cold and empty compared to the vibrant joy of “The Friendship Galaxy.” Sitting alone, she finally understood. The judges weren’t just looking for technical skill; they were looking for heart. Her portrait was a picture of friendship, but Liam’s collage was the very essence of it—built on shared ideas, laughter, and trust. The true theme hadn’t been “Friendship” as a subject to draw, but as a way to create.
Liam broke away from the celebrations and walked over to Ella. He sat beside her in a comfortable silence with understanding. He gently admitted that her technical skill was something he truly admired, and that the wild ideas behind their winning piece had originally been hoped for their partnership. Ella looked at him, her vision blurred by tears of regret. She realized her pursuit of perfection had almost cost her a friend whose creativity brought joy to others. Moved by his generosity, she whispered a sincere apology for the way she had turned him away. In that quiet moment away from the crowd, Ella understood that the finest masterpiece is not created alone, but through the courageous and messy collaboration of friendship.
