After I finished secondary school,my results showed that I was better at doing things than at reading books. 中学毕业之后,我的成绩表明比起读书来说,我更擅长做事情。
1. 定义
在句子中充当宾语成分的句子叫宾语从句。
2. 宾语从句的引导词
(1) 由 that 引导的宾语从句。that 在从句中不充当任何成分,在口语或非正式文体中 that 可以省略。
The boy believes that he can pass the exam.
那个男孩相信他能通过考试。
(2) 由 whether 或 if 引导的宾语从句。一般来说,在宾语从句中 whether 与 if 可以互换使用,但在下面的情况下只能用 whether。
① 引导词后有带 to 的动词不定式结构。
· We will decide whether to have a party tomorrow. 我们将决定明天是否举办聚会。
② 引导词位于介词后。
· I'm thinking of whether we should go to the cinema. 我在考虑我们是否应该去电影院看电影。
③ 与 or not 连用。
· I couldn't say whether or not they can come on time. 我说不准他们是否会准时到来。
(3) 由 wh- 开头的连接代词或 wh-/h- 开头的连接副词引导的宾语从句。这样的宾语从句实际上是由特殊疑问句变化而来的,宾语从句要用陈述句语序。
· None of us knows where these new parts can be bought. 我们中没人知道这些新部件在哪里能买到。
3. 宾语从句的语序
宾语从句的语序是陈述句语序,即"引导词+主语+谓语+其他成分",如:
· I don't know what they are looking for.
我不知道他们在找什么。
· Can you imagine what kind of man he is?
你能猜测他是怎样的一个人吗?
4. 宾语从句的时态
(1) 主句是一般现在时,从句根据实际情况可使用任何时态。
· The headmaster hopes (that) everything goes well. 校长希望一切进展顺利。
(2) 主句是一般过去时,从句应用表示过去的某种时态。
· She was sorry that she hadn't finished her work on time. 她很抱歉自己没准时完成工作。
(3) 当宾语从句表示的是客观真理或者事实时,即使主句是一般过去时,从句也应用一般现在时。
· The teacher told the students that light travels faster than sound. 老师告诉学生们光比声音传播得快。
