This year, this week-long, family-oriented festival is full of different activities, all things chocolate-related.(加拿大巧克力镇每年都会举办一年一度的巧克力节,庆祝其社区丰富而美味的传统。 A。 B When I was a teenage boy, I helped out at my parents’ furniture store in a charming New England town. The store was known for its wide range of products. One summer holiday, I was busy assisting customers to find what they needed. I always greeted them warmly at the entrance, and customers appreciated it as excellent service. I also assisted them to carry heavy things to their cars, but my parents strictly instructed me not to accept tips or anything else. One day, an elderly lady visited the store. At first sight, I was drawn to her. She was neatly (整洁地) dressed and had a graceful presence, looking polite and friendly. She lived in a senior citizen apartment nearby and wanted to buy some chairs for her garden. After a short search, I found some chairs that met her needs. She bought two chairs and asked if I could help send them to her home just a stone’s throw away. Recognizing her old age, I agreed and carried the chairs to her building. Upon arrival, she welcomed me warmly and showed me where to place the chairs. Before I could thank her for shopping in my parents’ store, she shocked me by placing a handful of candy in my hand. Then, to my amazement, she gave me an educational book. I politely rejected it, explaining that I couldn’t accept any presents. However, she put the book in my hand and said with a smile, “If your parents don’t want you to have this, just don’t tell them. Let me tell them instead.” We both laughed, and I thanked her sincerely. I decided to follow her advice, and she told my parents that she had given me a book as a reward for my hard work. With the book, I learned a lot and started my lifelong love for reading. Reflecting on this experience, I often think of the elderly lady and hope she will live a joyful life surrounded by loved ones forever. Her generosity and humor have left a lasting impression on me. 4. What can we learn about the author from his actions at his parents’ store? A. He was rude and strict. B. He was hard-working and helpful. C. He was afraid to greet customers. D. He was as glad to get tips. 5. What was the elderly lady like when the author first saw her? A. Demanding. B. Wealthy. C. Indifferent. D. Pleasant. 6. How did the author feel about the presents from the elderly lady? A. Proud and ambitious. B. Scared and desperate. C. Confused and worried. D. Grateful and surprised. 7. What can be the best title for the text? A. Unexpected Gifts B. A Strict Customer C. Lessons from a Job D. Life at a Furniture Store 【答案】4. B 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第一段中“One summer holiday, I was busy assisting customers to find what they needed. I always greeted them warmly at the entrance, and customers appreciated it as excellent service. I also assisted them to carry heavy things to their cars, but my parents strictly instructed me not to accept tips or anything else. 根据第二段中“At first sight, I was drawn to her. She was neatly (整洁地) dressed and had a graceful presence, looking polite and friendly. 根据第三段中“Before I could thank her for shopping in my parents’ store, she shocked me by placing a handful of candy in my hand. Then, to my amazement, she gave me an educational book. 然后,令我惊讶的是,她给了我一本有教育意义的书)”以及“I decided to follow her advice, and she told my parents that she had given me a book as a reward for my hard work. With the book, I learned a lot and started my lifelong love for reading. A。 C Fifty-five public schools in New York City have recently invited furry friends to their classrooms. The Comfort Dog Program has been around for five years. Comfort dogs have been found to augment levels of oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine in our brains, hormones (激素) promoting positive feelings and a happy mood (心情). But how are these pets helpful in the classroom? For some students the comfort pet provides the emotional support they need, which then allows the child to be engaged and successful in their studies. A struggling student can hold the pet in the arms and get the support he or she needs at the time, which also develops their self-awareness and ability to regulate their emotions. In other cases, teachers use the pet as part of the lesson. Meredith Loftus, a teacher in New York, brought a dog named Chip to help out with a phonies game in the classroom. Dog training isn’t necessarily a walk in the park, although it can definitely include that. It takes time, effort and consistency to train pets, and this is the case for this program, too. To be a part of the program, an educator and their dog must participate in a six-hour training session by The Good Dog Foundation. This training teaches the educator what to do if students are scared of pets. It also trains dogs on the differences they’ll experience in a school environment, such as the school bell, fire alarms, loud announcements and other possible distractions. The dog is also trained at being friendly with strangers and the handler, in this case the educator, who needs to be very in tune with the pet and know how to look out for its stress signals. The program has been a genuine success so far, and a helpful addition to the education and well-being of many students in New York. In fact, hundreds of other schools have expressed their interest in joining the program and may be including it in their curriculum in the near future. 8. The underlined word “augment” in paragraph 2 most probably means “______”. A. reach B. stabilize C. balance D. increase 9. According to paragraph 3, the comfort pet can help students ______. A. develop in an all-round way B. succeed academically C. become more supportive D. have richer feelings 10. What can an educator learn during the six-hour training session? A. How to be friendly with dogs. B. How to keep dogs away from stress. C. How to respond to students’ fear of pets. D. How to adapt to a school environment. 11. What can be known about The Comfort Dog Program from the last paragraph? A. It’s still on trial in New York. B. It’s gaining greater popularity. C. It’s promoted across New York. D. It’s part of New York curriculum. D 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第三段“For some students the comfort pet provides the emotional support they need, which then allows the child to be engaged and successful in their studies.(对于一些学生来说,舒适的宠物为他们提供了所需的情感支持,从而使孩子能够在学习中投入并取得成功)”可知,安慰犬可以帮助学生在学业上取得成功。 根据第五段中“This training teaches the educator what to do if students are scared of pets.(这种训练告诉教育工作者如果学生害怕宠物该怎么做)”可知,在六小时的培训课程中,教育者可以学到如何应对学生对宠物的恐惧。 根据最后一段“In fact, hundreds of other schools have expressed their interest in joining the program and may be including it in their curriculum in the near future.(事实上,已有数百所其他学校表达了加入该项目的兴趣,并可能在不久的将来将其纳入课程)”可推知,安慰犬计划深受欢迎。故选B。 D Astronauts on the International Space Station will soon test a new oven for making chocolate chip cookies. A spaceship carrying the cooking equipment and other supplies was launched on Saturday from the Wallops Flight Facility in the United States. The shipment, weighing 3,700 kilograms, reached the space station on Monday. The goal is to explore the possibility of making freshly baked cookies for space travelers. American company Nanoracks designed and built the oven and helped with organizing the flight to the space station.Hilton DoubleTree hotels supplied the cookie dough(生面团)the astronauts will use. In the past, space station crews have created their own pizzas using a thin, flat piece of bread known as flatbread.Astronauts have tried other creative ways to make food, such as creating salads from vegetables grown in the space station. Results have been mixed. The cookie baking will be a slow process. The oven can heat just one cookie at a time. The test could take weeks before the astronauts have chance to try out freshly baked cookies. Five unbaked cookies have been in a space station freezer for several weeks. Each is in its own individual clear bag made out of silicone. The oven can heat foods to temperatures as high as 177 degrees Celsius. That is twice the temperature of the U.S.and Russian food warmers on the space station. The oven uses electric heating elements. Mary Murphy is with Nanoracks.Murphy says she expects a baking time of 15 to 20 minutes for each cookie when the oven is heated to about 163 degrees Celsius. She adds that the smell of baking cookies should fill the space station each time a cookie comes out of the oven. The oven's first use will be the real test.Without the force of gravity, the astronauts do not know exactly how the cookie will look.Three of the space-baked cookies are to be returned to Earth for testing. 12. Which of the following can best describe the new oven test? A. Time-consuming. B. Energy-saving. C. Meaningless. D. Successful. 13. What's the advantage of the new oven over the Russian food warmer? A. It heats up much faster. B. It's more convenient to use. C. It has a larger cooking space. D. It can heat up to a higher temperature. 14. What will make the cookie's appearance in the new oven uncertain? A. The baking time. B. The heating method. C. The absence of gravity. D. The speed of temperature rise. 15. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Cooking Equipment in Space Station B. Cookies Coming from the International Space Station C. Creative Ways Astronauts Make Food in Space Station D. A New Oven to Be Tested to Make Cookies in Space Station 【答案】12. A 13. D 14. C 15. The cookie baking will be a slow process. The oven can heat just one cookie at a time. The test could take weeks before the astronauts have chance to try out freshly baked cookies.(烤饼干是一个缓慢的过程。 Murphy says she expects a baking time of 15 to 20 minutes for each cookie when the oven is heated to about 163 degrees Celsius. The oven can heat foods to temperatures as high as 177 degrees Celsius. That is twice the temperature of the U.S. and Russian food warmers on the space station.(这个烤箱可以将食物加热到177摄氏度。 Without the force of gravity, the astronauts do not know exactly how the cookie will look. Astronauts on the International Space Station will soon test a new oven for making chocolate chip cookies. A New Oven to Be Tested to Make Cookies in Space Station概括了文章内容,适合作为标题。 A Few Tips for Self-acceptance We all want to accept and love ourselves. But at times it seems too difficult and too far out of reach. _____16_____Here’s a handful of ways that will set you in the right direction. Stop comparing yourself with others. ____17____Why do you follow them? Are you hoping that eventually you will feel empowered because your life is better than theirs? Know that your life is your own; you are the only you in this world. _____18_____ We are often ashamed of our shortcomings, our mistakes and our failures. Remember, you are only human. You will make mistakes, time and time again. Rather than getting caught up in how you could have done better, why not offer yourself a compassionate (有同情心的) response? “That didn’t go as planned. But, I tried my best.” Recognize all of your strengths. Write them down in a journal. Begin to train your brain to look at strengths before weaknesses. List all of your accomplishments and achievements. You have a job, earned your degree, and you got out of bed today. _____19_____ Now that you’ve listed your strengths, list your weaknesses. Turn the page in your journal. Put into words why you feel unworthy, why you don’t feel good enough. Now, read these words back to yourself. _____20_____Turn to a page in your journal to your list of strengths and achievements. See how fantastic you are. A. Others’ encouragement can contribute to your self-acceptance. B. Without self-acceptance, you won’t have enough strengths to face the challenges. C. Where do you start? D. Forgive yourself for mistakes that you have made. E. Feeling upset again? F. Do not follow the people who make you feel not good enough. G. Nothing is too small to celebrate. C 17. F 18. D 19. G 20. 【16题详解】 上文“We all want it to accept and love ourselves. But at times it seems too difficult and too far out of reach.(我们都希望能接纳并爱自己,但有时这似乎太难了,也遥不可及。)”提到接纳自己很难,下文“Here’s a handful of ways that will set you in the right direction.(这有几个可以帮你找到正确方向的方法。)” 选项C(从哪里开始呢?)对应了上文的“But at times it seems too difficult and too far out of reach.”,并成功引出下文,符合上下文语境。故选C项。 【17题详解】 下文“Why do you follow them?(你为什么要跟随他们呢?)” 且F项中的“follow the people”与空后一句中的“follow them”相呼应。 根据空后的内容“We are often ashamed of our shortcomings, our mistakes and our failures. Remember, you are only human.(我们常常会为自己的缺点、错误和失败感到羞愧。)” 【19题详解】 上文“List all of your accomplishments and achievements. You have a job, earned your degree, and you got out of bed today.(列出你所有的成就,无论大小。 【20题详解】 结合上文“Put into words why you feel unworthy, why you don’t feel good enough. Now, read these words back to yourself.(用语言来表达为什么你觉得自己不值得,为什么你觉得自己不够好。 和下文的“Turn to a page in your journal to your list of strengths and achievements. See how fantastic you are?(翻到你日记本上记下你的优点和成就的那页。 可知,选项E(再次感觉心烦意乱了吗?)” When I was 17, my rowing coach declared that taking a day off a week was unnecessary. In the cold and the darkness, a poor boy was selling goods door to door. He wanted to make some money to pay for his school in the coming new term. He was walking helplessly on the road when he found that he had only one dime (一角钱) left. He was hungry so he decided to beg for a meal at the next house. Lights were shining from every window. Every house must have a family getting together to enjoy a big dinner happily. He was afraid that he would disturb their warm moment. But he was extremely hungry. With his heart beating fast, he slowly put his hand on the door. It was the first time that he had begged for something. He lost his courage when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal, he just asked for a drink of water. She thought he looked hungry so she brought him some milk and bread. He swallowed them down in a flash, and then asked, “How much do I have to pay you?” “You don’t need to give me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught me never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said, “Thank you, and I will never forget about your kindness.” As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but it also increased his faith in life. No one knew that he was about to give up and quit before this point. Years later, the woman became seriously ill. The local doctors could not figure out a proper treatment. They had no option but to send her to the big city, where specialists could be called in to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly, now a famous expert in this field, was having an urgent meeting with his colleagues in the consultation room (咨询室), listening carefully to the report of her condition. Paragraph 1: When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: She didn’t know Dr. Kelly had paid her bill in hospital and this morning an envelope with the bill and a note came to her. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. His memory came flooding back to the cold evening and the warm face. “Would it be her?” he thought. Curious to know the answer, he found himself standing outside the patient’s room. Through the window of the door, he saw the face he would never forget. Silently, he turned around and was determined to do whatever he could to save her life. After a long struggle, her health was picking up day by day. She didn’t know Dr. Kelly had paid her bill in hospital and this morning an envelope with the bill and a note came to her. She was afraid to open it because she was sure that it would take the rest of her life to pay off the bill. Taking a deep breath, she opened it with trembling hands, and the handwritten words on the note caught her attention first, which read, “Paid in full with the milk and bread, from Dr. Howard Kelly”. She was thinking hard to figure out the meaning of the words when Howard pushed the door open. He explained everything. With tears rolling down her face, she said, “Thank You!” 词汇激活 行为类 ①决心做某事:be determined to do/ make up one’s mind to do ②吸引某人的注意力:catch one’s attention/absorb one’s attention ③弄清楚:figure out/make sense of/make out 情绪类 ①害怕的:afraid/scared/frightend ②眼泪顺着脸颊流下来:With tears rolling down her face/tears running down her cheeks 【点睛】【高分句型1】Silently, he turned around and was determined to do whatever he could to save her life.(运用了whatever引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型2】She was afraid to open it because she was sure that it would take the rest of her life to pay off the bill. 1. B When I was a teenage boy, I helped out at my parents’ furniture store in a charming New England town. B. What can be the best title for the text? A. Unexpected Gifts B. A Strict Customer C. Lessons from a Job D. Life at a Furniture Store C Fifty-five public schools in New York City have recently invited furry friends to their classrooms. C How to respond to students’ fear of pets. D. How to adapt to a school environment. 11. What can be known about The Comfort Dog Program from the last paragraph? A. It’s still on trial in New York. B. It’s gaining greater popularity. C. It’s promoted across New York. D. It’s part of New York curriculum. D Astronauts on the International Space Station will soon test a new oven for making chocolate chip cookies. Years later the woman became seriously ill. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
